Game Day Cavaliers Game Six

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

6:00AM…Dave Johnson checking in…BLOGCAST is back tonight and starts at 7…of course my dream was for the Wizards to have a chance to clinch the series in game six at home on a Friday night…but the commitment of this team has given Wizards fans a chance for another great memory…in a lot of ways it is probably best that Gilbert’s status is now clear…when the Wizards beat the Sixers in the final week of the season to clinch the fifth seed Gil was the difference.. he was the game changer..I thought he would be in this series and he was in game one but just not healthy enough to do it on a consistent basis…moving forward to me and my partner Glenn Consor the key is rebounding…had the Wizards been more competitive on the boards in game four they would have won…it still is amazing the Wizards only lost by three–even though they were outrebounded by 20….smart on offensehit the boards.. and we very well could be going to Cleveland on Sunday…..BLOGCAST starts at 7…hope you can join us…..

UPDATE: Well fans your not going to like to hear this but the NBA has decided to suspend Darius Songaila for game 6 due to the technical foul he received in game 5.

Game Five @ Cleveland

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

7:14am Hey Everyone, SportzWiz checking in. Obviously its win or go home time for the Wizards. This team has responded all year with their back against the wall and they will try to do it once again tonight. Team arrived yesterday afternoon and they are excited with the opportunity to bring this back to dc for game six.

As for the blog, unfortunately Dave Johnson is attending to some family issues and was unable to make the trip. Therefore I will be running the blog from my spot in quicken loans arena. Michael Reghi will be taking over play-by-play duties for Dave tonight. Him and Glenn have actually worked together in the past doing college games so the announcing will be spot on hopefully I can keep up my end of the bargain on the blog. I will be heading to shootaround around 11:15 so if you have any questions on that please let me know. Game starts at 6:00 pm tonight and can be seen on TNT, Comcast Spportsnet or listened to on WTEM 980, I’ll make sure to put the link up prior to the game. GO WIZ!

Hey everyone, I just got back from shootaround. I got some photos from shootaround and also of the Cavaliers setting up their fan fest. If you’ve never been to cleveland Progressive (Jacobs) Field is right next to Quicken Loans Arena. Right between them is a little grassy area and they have set up some games for fans before hand. Anyway Click here to check them out.

Here are a few videos from shootaround.

Game Day Cavaliers-Game Four

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

8:46 AM….Dave Johnson checking in….the dream sceneraio is a repeat lof the 2005 Chicago series—lose the first two in Chicago and then win four straight inlcuding the series clinching game six on Friday night at home. That still is one of my best memories in my 11 years behind the mic…..that Friday night it was just sheer joy in the streets…it was like Marid Gras on 6th Street after the game….it’s a great dream….to make it happen..Wizards have to do what they did on Thursday—share the basketball, rebound (which has been strong this series),  and play TEAM defense….it is not about DeShawn or Caron vs. LeBron….it is about all five guys focused on the guy with the ball…this is something Randy Ayers stressed day one in trainig camp and very much applies now….BLOGCAST starts at 1 PM…hope you can join us….again we do radio and BLOG..you connect wuth us courtside….

12:10 PM….Dave Johnson checking in court side….waiting on starters……if Gilbert is good to go….I think he will start….but we will update when we have it.

12:35 PM…Gilbert Arenas……will start…..stevenson, butler, jamison, haywood,….west, szczerbiak, james, wallace, ilgauskas

arenas_240_080421.jpg6:06 AM….Dave Johnson checking in early and eager to get this one started….It was an upbeat mood at practice yesterday…Wizards know they had game one but let it slip away..we could question shots late…but one three point attempt by Jamison was in the flow of the game and he was wide open and more often than not that would have gone down….posturing going on…heard Cavs coach Mike Brown talk about LeBron James getting fouled when he drives but the fouls not getting called…he did get to the line 14 times…. when asked about what constitutes  a traveling violation after watching James on Saturday head coach Eddie Jordan smiled and offered no comment…sprained right wrist by Gilbert Arenas is a concern keep your fingers crossed….BLOGCAST starts at 7…radio and blogging and you can listen online too….check back later

Game Day Cleveland Game One

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

8:03 AM…Dave Johnson chekcing in and ready to playoff blog…Just passed some of the players in the lobby. This is different starting this early but it is for a good reason. There has been a lot of talk about all the talk but I think we are past the point where who says what  matters. Two years ago when the Wizards were healthy, while it was extremely disappointing, it was one of the best playoff series you will ever see. The Wizards most recent game against the Cavaliers was the 101-99 win on March 13 and they will need a defensive effort similiar to that game. As Caron Butler noted it is not about stopping LeBron, it is about making things difficult. Obviously we need to protect the paint and I think we have shown we can do that. It will be important to get out on shooters. The Cavaliers in the last meeting with the Wizards did make 13 3-pointers. And that brings me to the Wizards offense. As Antawn Jamison said–no quick shots—-the Wizards do not want to tee up LeBron James for a chance to run the floor and throw down a monster slam. BLOGCAST starts bat 12:30..radio with the BLOG hope you can join us….dave

11:35AM…Dave Johnson checking in at the Q….eddie jordan noted team defense..helping on one-on ones with LeBron and the pick and pops for Zydrunas Ilgauskas…rode down on the elevator with Caron Butler…to say he was focused would be an understatement…

12:02PM….startesr are in…snow, pavlovic, and billy thomas are inactive…west szczerbiak ilgauskas, wallace, james…..for the cavs…..the wizards will have daniels, stevenson, haywood, butler, jamison
