10:06 AM EST…Dave Johnson checking in,…yes I overslept…I had a 10:22 PM train from New Jersey on Thursday night but because of signal problems and a downed power line the train did not get to my station at BWI Airport until 6:10 AM Friday….Nothing like an 8-hour train ride.... that’s why we laugh at Planes, Trains, and Automobilesthe movie. IDK, Im still not sold that this just isnt a rumor. I mean there is obviously something but it may just be normal talk since some say nothing is imminent and in that case I would want him to play. I actually think we could shock the Heat. Its a back to back and theyve had some big games latley. They could easily fall asleep. Meanwhile Flip could wakeup and start a Gil-NY backcourt with Howard back. McGee is then motivated from the talk of being benched and dominates that slow Z. NY can again hold his own with Wade.
Still, it all comes back to Gil. It probably is something to this since I think he’s been coasting but with the help of Kirk, he showed up in the 2nd half last game. Maybe that will carry over. We could make it interesting with Dray & Howard in and Gil playing with tempo. Again, he should kill there PG’s and should destroy there bigs on the pick & roll but you just never know with Gil right now. You just dont know. If its imminent then it doesnt matter anyways. Just sit himand lets get the ball rolling.
However, he’s been telling people about this since the Lakers game if the rumors are true and he’s still played so he’ll probably play again tonight if he’s not gone. The question is will he play hard? If so then we could pull an upset. If not then we may still make it interesting with NY, Howard, Dray, & McGee playing well but its probably not enough if Gil doesnt show up and I dont mean that literally……lol

Update
Wizards, Magic discussing trade; Arenas expected to play for Washington tonight
By Michael Lee
A league source with knowledge of the situation has confirmed that the Wizards and the Orlando Magic are discussing a potential trade with former all-star guard Gllbert Arenas but said that Arenas is expected to be in the lineup tonight for Washington when the Wizards play the Miami Heat tonight at Verizon Center.
“If it happens,” the source said, “I don’t think it’s going to be today.”
The reported discussions involving Arenas were confirmed by two sources on Saturday.
The Wizards’ match-up against the Heat will be already be drawing extra attention because Verizon Center is making preparations for President Obama to attend his second Wizards game since taking office.
Obama attended a game against his hometown Chicago Bulls in February 2009, and he is expected tonight to see Miami’s all-star lineup of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
—————————————————————————-
we do matchup well with them actually & played them tough last time while we won our other game where Obama attended. The Miami streak ends tonight, Gil plays well, Wall comes back next game to make us fully healthy, we start looking like a great team with huge upside, which then makes us decide to keep Gil.
I know, I know. Just wishful thinking from a Gil homer…..lol
However, if we did win tonight with him playing well and won another game with Wall then maybe you do start thinking about it because maybe Gil’s trade value goes up with more success since its probably low right now but then you risk the Magic going a different route and they may be the only real suitor out there in the long run

a trade for lewis and arenas i would hope involves a draft pick. i would rather see vince come here though, because we don’t really need lewis, and we don’t need vince, but vince would be gone pretty quickly.
but i guess when it comes to a better contract, and a less cluttered back court with wall, the lewis trade isn’t too bad looking.

i wonder if the magic would be willing to give up daniel orton along with lewis to us. orton is a young center drafted last season from kentucky.
he has a connection with wall, he has a good upside, and he would provide another big body for us that could blossom into something down the road. i really hope if this trade goes down ernie finds a way to get him.

When the Trade Happens (if it happens) here is it is:
* I predicted we would pick Kevin Seraphin on draft night with the 17th pick in the first round.
* Landry Fields was my sleeper pick in the draft (I proved it to Tom).
Wizards sends:
Gilbert Arenas
Yi Jianlian
Al Thornton
Orlando sends:
Rashard Lewis
Marcin Gortat
A #1 Draft Pick
Why not Vince Carter? Orlando’s payroll will diminish by $17million next year with Vince’s contract gone. They have the highest payroll in the NBA.
Why Gortat? Because he is a backup in Orlando. The Wizards will not do any trade unless Gortat is coming to DC.
Why Gilbert for Lewis? Money wise it is pretty close. The Wizards will save $13million by moving Gilbert for Lewis.
Why Yi? A Big body with an outside shot. Orlando realizes they need outside shooters and Yi can shoot.
Why Al? With Josh Howard back and Rashard on the Wiz Al becomes the perfect guy to be moved. The Wizards also need his money to make the trade work for salary purposes.
Why the 1st round draft pick? Because that is what Ted wants. No #1 pick then no trade.

It’s true — draftazoid did point out Landry Fields. He was on my radar too, but I can’t claim the honor from him. Now, that said, neither zoidy nor I could have projected what a terrific NBA player he has become *instantly.*
As to the prediction that we’d take KS w/ #17, I was *hoping* we would when I heard about the trade — I haven’t seen documentation that draftazoid predicted the pick, however.
Comment from Tom Mandel
Time December 18, 2010 at 12:51 PM
gray16 — what makes you think Orton will ever be good? Actually, there can’t be anything at all, because he has never done anything at all.
Gil for Carter and Gortat would be a miracle. As to Lewis, he isn’t as good a player as people sometimes think, but yes he’s a better 3 than 4 and always has been. And for sure he’s better than Gil right now. I agree that Gil will likely be better elsewhere, but his low FG% and high TOs aren’t from coasting.

Comment from Tom Mandel
Time December 18, 2010 at 12:56 PM
Draftazoid’s version of the trade would be great.
The one thing we cannot and I’m sure will not do is give up pick, rookies or JaVale. Somehow I doubt we’ll trade Dray because of the recent new contract — although it’s just barely possible this was worked out in consultation w/ a trade partner?
Depending on whether a 3d team is in the trade and who else might come back, I can imagine Kirk going as well.
The more I think about Lewis, the more likely it seems that he’d be part of the deal — we are getting someone to eat an enormous contract that overpays Gil. Surely they’d want us to eat an enormous contract, tho a bit smaller and shorter, that overpays Lewis.

Smith Said Trade’s Not Imminent
You see Smith say that Gil is a sleeping giant? That line sounds more like he knows something. Like Gil has told him that he’s going to hold back and then play way harder when he gets to Orlando. He doesnt want to risk any injuries. He’s just crusing right now and thats why he’s playing so passive.
The only good thing is that Gil knows now that its not a sure thing and they prefer other guys so that could make him flip the switch and start trying to go off to show Orlando that he still has it. I wouldnt be shocked if we saw a different Gil tonight

One thing I would hate to see is the Gil trade meaning that Kirk is our starting SG. He should still be a backup with NY as the new starting 2. or you could have Howard start at the 2 with Lewis at the 3. or if Flip hates McGee so much then we can go smaller with NY at the 2, Howard at the 3, Lewis at the 4, and Dray at the 5, and just run all day like the Suns use to

Wow! With Gortat gone and no #1 draft pick to trade it is really going to be hard to get excited about Gillbert for Lewis.
Unless we get BRANDON BASS.
He would be a terrific running partner for Wall, Booker and McGEE.
That would be a heck of a fast break team.
Brandon Bass:
22 minutes a game
10 points a game
5 rebounds a game
.526 shooting percentage
.833 free throw percentage
Great numbers for someone playing 22 minutes a game. 25 years old. Prime years ahead of him. What an Athlete!

IMO, Lewis is vastly overpaid, but a change of scenery will probably do him a lot of good also. On the downside, Lewis is 31 years-old. Lewis is making $19.6 million this season and has two more years on his endless six-year, $118 million deal. He is the highest paid member of the Magic team. His career ppg 1s 16.5 and he gets 5.6 boards per game. For that he received $118M???? He’s a spot-up shooter who, according to his coach, has trouble creating shots for himself. I can’t see how he would fit into the Wizards plans.

Getabig,
The number one reason for trading Gilbert for Lewis is that it would officially turn the team over from Gilbert to John Wall.
There would be no doubt on whose team this is- going forward.
I have heard NBA announcers say that this team still belongs to Gilbert, as well as my fellow bloggers.
This trade would make it official.

I think that Gil has to get out of DC for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that he is uncomfortable playing here. Gil is still the same selfish me-first basketball player that he always was, but now he can’t put the ball in the basket with any consistency so the team won’t continue to sacrifice his negative influence on the younger players for points/wins. Sadly, the points/wins simply aren’t there anymore. It’s time for everyone to move on. If we can’t get a better deal than Lewis for Arenas and we do the deal anyway, it just demonstrates how anxious the Wizards are to start a new life without Gil.

i’m thinking wall wasn’t playing because of gil at this point. i think they saw the combo wasn’t working, and with wall feeling a little pain, they saw an out to sit him and let gil start in his place, showing he can still do some things.
i expect wall to be back soon, even with the tendonitus, and he will have the ball in his hands permanently.
rashard is a guy who doesn’t take that many shots and won’t stop ball movement, so he could fit well beside wall.
and with howard back, that is another scorer who doesn’t mind moving the ball.
and i honestly don’t believe losing arenas hurts us that much, since howard is coming back and lewis plays team ball. we shall see though.

A few thoughts on the the Gil/Rashard trade…
1) It speaks volumes that the only value Gil could bring in was a declining, overpriced forward. At one time Rashard was a very good player, but not anymore.
2) It also tells us how much the Wiz were looking to start fresh without Gil.
3) This is Nick’s big moment. By my count, the Wiz are down to 3 guards.

STARTERS
1. Wall
2. Young
3. Howard
4. Blatche
5. McGee
Lewis could start at 4 and Blatche at the 5 with McGee off the bench.
But I cant see Lewis over Blatche when we’re struggling with rebounds already. And Neither can I see Howard not starting over Lewis at SF if Howard is 100% and playing like the old Howard.

I agree with “we want a winner” Flip always got an excuse on why he cant start Nick.
Tonight’s Starters (my predictions)
1. Kirk
2. Young (finally)
3. Thorton
4. Blatche (should play tonight)
5. McGee
And I think we have a chance at winning. Then again I feel like that before every Wizards game lol.

At the end of it all, The Wizards are not in anyway, worse off than they were yesterday. we are the worse team in the east with Gil. it doesnt get any worse than last. so in essence, keeping Gil made us last, trading him cant hurt. it can only go up from here. This may even help our team, although I wont hold my breathe. but its now impossible for Flip to torture fans with that horrid 3 guard lineup. It also gives us a solid Veteran Player who is used to winning which we did not have before. part of our problem is that we had no leadership. Im not sure how good of a leader Lewis is, but i do know he will be our eldest player and one who is used to winning and one who has been to the playoffs as an important part of that eastern conference championship team.

this is depressing. I will become an Orlando fan.
Have tickets to two games and don’t care about going.
I don’t understand the mentality of constantly trading
people. And of course trading Nick Young would be
insane. It appears some of you want to get rid of all
our veterans and anyone with experience.. and then
we can just start over year after year.
BTW did you know that Caron Butler is the number 3
leading scorer in Dallas?
Here’s an idea, we can trade Nick Young for a draft pick
and then keep the pick for several years while he’s
learning and screwing up and then after about 4 years
when he gets really good we can trade him for a draft
pick.

the wizards are basically just gonna attempt to surround wall with great players that we feel can get us to a championship. it’s basically saying, wall is our starting point, we need players who can compliment him and his talents, and help us win games. luckily, there are plenty of players who can compliment a pass first point guard.

Kirk did the right thing in taking the last shot. He drew contact but the refs sucked on the whistle. Why am I not suprised? The league has a vested interest in the Heat doing well.
Nice opening game by Josh. He makes a big difference.
Saunders has to take some blame for the way he managed the last minute of the game. I have to question the defensive scheme that allowed Wade the open court all to himself. It looks like they double-teamed James and let Wade take off in the open court. Of course he is going to get a call every time. Then there was a weak in-bounds play that got the predictable turnover and foul. The Wiz are terrible at in-bounds plays and it cost them tonight.
Andray’s outside shot has been off this year compared to last year. But you can’t complain about him not taking it to the hole. He does that quite often. He generates contact at each foray to the hoop but the refs swallow their whistle.
Wall is going to have to get his butt in the game. There is no way Kirk is going to play these entire games.

i disagree, wall seems like he is looking for people more than he’s looking for his own shot. of course he does look for his shot if he’s feeling it, and does take a shot when he’s open, but any point guard who can score is that way.
i consider wall a pass first point guard, but if his shot is falling, he’s gonna take it, because when he’s on, he’s one of our best scorers.

Here you go Gray16
Saunders joined the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves on May 11, 1995 as president, working under his former Minnesota teammate, Kevin McHale. On December 18, 1995, Saunders was named head coach of the Timberwolves, replacing Bill Blair.
This happened shortly after McHale had taken over the basketball operations for the Timberwolves. He then added the coaching duties to his GM responsibilities after the team had gotten off to a 6–14 start. The Timberwolves went 20–42 the rest of the year, but the emergence of young Kevin Garnett as a front-line NBA player was a huge plus over the second half of the season.
He guided with difficulty the Timberwolves to their first-ever playoff berth in the 1996–97 season, his first full season as an NBA head coach, and to a franchise-record 50 victories in 1999–2000 which was duplicated in 2001–2002.
After the Timberwolves’ success in the 2003–04 NBA season, in which they made the Western Conference Finals, they struggled in the 2004–05 season, winning fewer than half of their games. On February 12, 2005, Saunders was fired

The trade of Gil for Lewis won’t make us a better team, but it won’t make us a worse team either.
It’s a good deal for us in other ways, however. Lewis will be gone two seasons sooner than Gil would have been. And he’ll cost us @ $25m less. He is also more tradable than Gil next year, and I expect him to be gone — not to play out his contract with us.
Lewis has always been over-rated and is only good at the 3. At the 4 he doesn’t really produce. Moreover, he peaked 4 years ago and has been down in productivity each subsequent season, including this season in which he really hasn’t played well at all.
All the same, he is probably an upgrade over Thornton this year. Still, I would have much preferred to get Vince Carter and his expiring salary for Gil.
Gilbert Arenas defined an era in Washington basketball, and it’s sad to see him go. If that era didn’t turn out as anyone hoped, it was still a big improvement over what preceded it. But it was time to move on from that era — necessary for the Wizards and maybe even more for Gil.
We need to get John Wall back on the court, and we need to play Trevor Booker and Kevin Seraphin as much as humanly possible.
And we *definitely* need to have JaVale on the court for more minutes than he was tonight. Had he played 10 more minutes, we would likely have won the game. Yes he makes mistakes, but he is *rebounding* the ball. You can’t get enough rebounding.

jeffmalone — the *only measure* of this team this year is how hard we play. That’s it. We aren’t going to win a bunch of games. We were never going to win many games.
If Wall, Seraphin, Booker, McGee and Young play hard and grow, that’s a heck of an accomplishment this year. If Blatche ever gets his needle back in the groove consistently that’s a big plus.
Btw, aside from that very unfortunate last foul on Bosh (wch it looked like Bosh helped by jumping sidways into Dray), Blatche played well tonight in many ways. He didn’t shoot well, but he boarded, had 4 steals, and got to the line 6 times.

The only thing this trade does for us it get us out from under a large overpriced contract one year earlier. Lewis’s contract expires season after next. He is more expensive than Gil so I guess the extra year, given the rebuilding mode, was a reason to pull the trigger. Gil put our franchise back on the map after many many years of being bottom feeders under Wes. I wish him the very best in Orlando. I hope he gets a ring.
Let’s be honest. Did anyone think we would be “the team” we were tonight? We lost the game in the last minute, mainly because on “that fateful” inbound every member of the team was around the basket. No spacing at all. An easily defensivable play for the Heat. Still that was Quite a game from our Wizards. We did lead most of the game. We countered their runs… played wonderful defense… and “MOVED” on both sides of the ball. I think we looked Great tonight. It was a very enjoyable game. Nick’s shot was very sweet tonight, but, his defense may have been even better. I’m really liking what he is doing this year. Welcome back to Josh and his supreme confidence. It appears to be very infectious.
Kirk played the entire game. Granted his shot was off but he did well in almost every other catagory. He is going to need help though. Anyone see Lester coming back?
Very encouraged by the Fire the team played with tonight. If we keep that intensity up through the current team and including any additional trades/acquisitions we should be a team that looks good for the long term. I think that is the idea

Why is everyone saying Lewis is cheaper than Gil? Is Hoopshype wrong? I hope not as that is my bible for salaries LOL. Gil is to make 21 and 22 mil the next two seasons. Lewis is to make 22 and 23 mil the next two seasons. What am I missing?

I really wouldn’t mind, given the dynamic of the team now, to see Lester return. I think he may be the perfect back up at pg. He seems to already have the attitude the team, as a whole, demonstrated tonight.

I am glad Gil is out of DC, now he can play with purpose. To all the Gil haters make sure you check his stats out in Orlando. He’s gonna kill it. He is about 95 -100% back to his true form. He just did not have a reason to play in Washington. 1st, the coaching staff sucks biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig time, 2nd they showed no respects by appointing Kirk and a Rookie as captain and leader of the team, 3rd the team is sucks, 4th he knew that his playing in DC was limited.
He had no reason to be exploisive and risk of getting hurt again. Personally I think his goal fgp was to motivate management to find a way to get him out of DC. If it was not because of the gun incident of last year, he would have asked to be trade.
Washington is not going anywhere any time soon.
May be if they get rid of Ernie and Flip Flop they may get a chance.
John Wall has a lot of learning to do, by the time he’s ready, injuries will slow him down and he’ll lose his only asset, his quickness.
Good luck to you all. As of today, I not another wizards’ game unless they are the Magic.
Lastly, I hope you don’t get to hate Wall too because soon you’ll find out he is overrated.

I was impressed early on. It seemed like Nick and Andray both had a realization. This is “our” team now. And they played like it. Josh’s confidence may be his best attribute. Great to see him come back and play so well. Gil leaves and everyone thinks… ok the team will be down in the dumps. Nope.. Josh, Nick, and Andray weren’t going to let that happen. I think that’s the best and most “alive” game they have played this season. Wall needs to grow a set. He needs to get back on the court to be a part of this transformation.
Question… what do we do with Howard AND Lewis?
Comment from GrifonRacing

I should have said… Josh, Nick, Andray, and “Kirk”. He played one heck of a ball game. Shot like crap, but, his defense (how many steals did he get? and how many did other guys get because Kirk knocked the ball away?) earns him a spot in the Big 4 tonight

Grifon, I appreciate your positive posts and I agree
with you. Can the 3 and the 4 positions sometimes
be interchangeable?
BTW, do you remember when we “blew up the team” last year.. and the first three games after that we won,
I think one was against the Nuggets? and then when
Josh Howard went down, we started losing. I think he
brings alot..motivation, leadership, energy and of course
experience.

Dayle… to be honest I never really thought about Josh Howard until he came to us last season. I’ll admit… in the 4 (and only 4) games he played for us last season he made me an instant fan. His energy and confidence seems to be very infectious. The entire team, at times, seems to feed off of his energy. It’s great to have him back so early… and back to the player I remember from last season in those 4 wonderful games
In this league the 3 and 4 are often interchangable. My concern in getting Lewis is that it will decrease Booker’s minutes. We are rebuilding and I’m sure Rashard isn’t in any long term plans. Booker is our future and I’d much rather see him get the back up minutes over Lewis. ie… if Booker can convert to the 3 he will be “our” beast in the east.

John Wall…Nick Young… Trevor Booker… Andray Blatche… and whoever wants it most between JaVale and Kevin (don’t laugh… the kid has supreme smarts, size, and “actually” likes to bang). My early money has been on Mr. Seraphin since Tom posted those videos before the draft. After seeing him in limited minutes I think we really have “something” in him. Great combo centers. JaVale the long lanky atheletic one to start, let the other team get comfortable… then bring Kevin in to knock those “comfortable players” on their butts
I for one am kinda excited about our future. In 3 years we “could be the team”

Gil just confirmed my assumptions and could not wait to get out of DC:
Gil haters watch out!!!! BTW, his new number is going to be 1.
“QUESTION: Do you still have it? Can Gilbert be who you used to be a couple of years ago?
GILBERT ARENAS: “I think it was more of a confidence thing with me, because I knew I wasn’t the man there anymore. So it was like, I was just docile. And now Otis says you’re going to be a main role, just play and be you. So it’s like, OK.’’
QUESTION: So did you come straight in and get a workout in tonight?
GILBERT ARENAS: “Yes, I got a workout in tonight. I was here probably right after halftime, maybe right after halftime.’’
QUESTION: Did you see you see a trade happening eventually in Washington?
GILBERT ARENAS: “I sensed something when I was coming off the bench. The excuse was that they needed scoring off the bench. My questions was, `Where’s the scoring from the starting five?’ I figured they were probably shipping me out because I was playing well and some people would probably have some interest in me.’’
QUESTION: Considering everything that happened in Washington with your suspension and benching, do you in a sense almost feel free or reborn?
GILBERT ARENAS: “Yeah, this is a new beginning for me. This is a true new beginning. Changing my number was a new beginning, but this is a real new beginning with a new city, new people and new team and I get to start fresh.’’

i’m about to go radical.
I am not only fed up with the wizards, i am fed up with all of the area pro sports. What is wrong with these owners. Kobe gets charged with Rape, Ray Lewis with murder, and they are still the face of their franchises.
DO NOT MENTION GIL’S SALARY, HINRICH GETS 10 MILLION and he’s not half a gil or jwall. STOP THE FREAKIN FOOLERY ALREADY.
Now i see why people in dc don’t root for the redskins, and are dallas fans….understand your history!! Hinrich is another mike miller to me, playing him regardless if he has an impact on the game or not.
These owners have money, that’s it, they are not football or basketball geniuses, they have $$ and that’s about it. stop hiring via the old boy network. shanahan keeps getting caught in lies, as well as flip, or they keep talking in circles.
No, i’m not going to be an orlando fan because gil went there, that isn’t a fan, but i’m going to rethink who i support because i don’t see the owners really caring about the sport, just about what they want, and “strong-arming”
at this point, i applaud lebron for doing things his way. to heck with jordan, barkely, etc. you are just mad because you didn’t/couldn’t do what he did. owners put all stars on the same team all the time without a fuss, why can’t a player be smart. AND YES, dont do a kanye and apologize, do exactly what you did, just say you would have done it differently……enough of the foolery!!
and the redskins should change their name and take the indian off their emblem if the are offended and who’s the idiot that thought up the WIZARDS?!?!?! REALLY??
McNabb situation should have been handled differently…gil situation could/should have been handled differently……communication sucks, has sucked and will continue to suck until we get people that don’t hide behind titles and act like human beings. Politics has its head in everything, but the little people show how they REALLY feel when it’s time for elections, or in this case, time to buy a ticket or merchandise….
btw-the caps are on a serious losing streak….what ya gonna do?

im not going to lie.
i think we need to bench javale.
hes not only dumb, but hes selfish.
in last nights game, the first 2 minutes he had already made 3 mistakes or so.
first basket by the miami heat, javale failed to get back and Z ended up by himself underneath the basket.
he also attempted his trademark hideous jump shot from the free throw line which obviously did not go in. it was also shot early relatively early in the 24 sec clock. why the fxxx does he take that shot… omg. heres a guy who has no offensive moves or a shot… and he CONTINUES to take those shots.
when he got the steal and started dribbling up the court by himself while nick young was to his right the entire time, i figured “this guy isnt that stupid…”
but i soon found out the answer was “yes, he is”
james jones had been set for a long while before javale ran him over, kneeing him in the process, as he tried to go for a “spectacular” dunk.
first of all, your vertical is not that high. just because your hand is above everyone else’s in the air, doesn’t mean your feet are above everyone else’s. you probably have the highest standing reach in the league but you are not vince carter. don’t ever try to jump over someone.
nick young was just waiting right next to the basket all by himself. that was one of the dumbest most selfish plays ive ever seen while watching wizards basketball for 10 years.
it was as dumb as that time michael ruffin chucked the ball up with “all his might” and ended up floating about 10 feet in the air, conveniently landing into the hands of mo pete, who made the game tying 3 pter to send the game to overtime at the buzzer… with toronto eventually winning the game.
this is a guy who always says he “knows” his role with the team… which is to defend (block shots) and rebound.
…
this is someone whos supposed to be our “future?”
already in his 3rd year in the league… these stupid mistakes have to be drastically reduced… yet i dont really see the improvement.

First guard- Kirk Hinrich
First Forward- Trevor Booker
First Center- Andray Blatche

Great game. Should have; could have won. IMO, it was Flip’s best as a game-day coach. Too bad we were limited to one point guard. Hinrich could have used some rest for the final 3 minutes. The defensive effort was great all game. With Gil’s departure, it looks like the young guys are more comfortable. I thought that Josh played super for his first game of the year. I believe that we can look forward to a more cohesive effort going forward.

What Are Your Rest Of Season Predictions?
We are now at 6-19 I think, & 4 games out of the final playoffs spot but this upcoming game will be the 1st time all year we have everyone. Unless Flip is an idiot, I see us now starting Wall-NY-Lewis-Dray-McGee. Ofcourse things could soon change with Howard getting healthy and Flip seemingly wanting to bench McGee. I honestly wouldnt be shocked if Flip says forget it and just turns us into the Knicks or the old Suns teams and starts Wall-NY-Howard-Lewis-Dray, and says lets just run all game.
No matter what we do, does anyone see us making the playoffs? What do you predict our record to be? I said the last few games that if Gil was going to play like that & coast then we wont beat anyone. It hurts us more then helps. I think he was doing that because he knew he was out and he will really turn it up in Orlando but I also think it helps us and gives us a normal sized roster. Dray probably gets more post touches, we get some real wing guys with height to play beside Wall, and we have all atheletes who can run with Wall.
We looked solid last night without Wall & Shard. Im in the minority in thinking that Shard will look alot better then he did in Orlando. He wont be the guy on the Sonics but he will be very solid and people will be happy with him. If fully healthy, can we make a run or do you guys just think we will suck? I think Flip was weak and never held Gil accountable in terms of playing D & playing hard. I think last night you could see that these guys will play hard, play defense, and Flip can hold them somewhat accountable. The East sucks so I think we could still make it. What say you? Give me our record for the final 57 games and tell me if we make the playoffs

Someone said Hinrich has no offensive game. I disagree. He has all the shots he needs, and he plays good D. Nothing outstanding but no big deficiencies. It’s just that he’s a journeyman player. Can’t make him into a star, and we can’t have him playing 48 minutes a game. If Wall isn’t ready we’ve got to get a backup PG and release Gee or NDiaye.
I think you listed the five best players, draftazoid (as soon as Lewis learns the system).
IMO Lewis is better at his position than Arenas is at his, but I don’t have much to base that on. The important thing is the difference in contract length.

I am at an all time low for the Wizards. Would’ve loved to have seen Howard and Arenas out there prior to the trade. There seems to have been a turning point for Arenas prior to fouling out of his last game offensively. Young teams do not win in the NBA. The Thunder should not be the model because they are not the norm. Ted made a comment about Kobe and some others are still with the teams that drafted them but every team has added or had veterans on their teams to play with those drafted players including Paul Pierce, Tim Duncan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, and other championship winners. Not one championship team had a majority of young players. While we have players for ESPN highlights I am hoping the Wizards can hammer out some wins anyway

If Andray does not foul, and if Bosh misses (most likely), then at least 4 seconds would go off before one of the team gets possesion. Even if Miami gets possesion there would be only 12 seconds left down by four. Even if they scored right away we would be up by 2 with 12 seconds left and they have to foul.
It was the bonehead play of the night from Bonehead Blatche.

Droid,
Dray has a bad play and now he is he worst player in the NBA? U are much more emotional than rational at times. Dray s very talented and can score on just about any Big one on one. His problem is he doesnt always do that. instead he shoots jumpers, which he can make, but not as well as he can make layups and draw fouls. I hope to see
1. Wall
2. Nick
3. Howard
4. Lewis
5. Blatche
That would make us much more difficult to cover with scorers at every position. but unfortunately it would makes us a terrible rebounding team. off the bench we should have

In regards to the wiz, we still have portions of our team that was/were given to us as “junk”, and some things that we selected ourselves aren’t what we need them to be. Right Tyrone. If Wall isn’t ready (and maybe even if he is) I presume the Wiz are trying to sign an experienced PG.

I think both Arenas and Lewis will play better for their new teams. Both needed a new venue.

Actually, I don’t think that that is the case. I think that dafty (did I drop a “r”?) is totally ignorant of what is happening and just runs with whatever he thinks is hot at the time in order to get some blog-time. He is surely the most out-of-touch-with-reality, ignorant-of-the-facts blogger that I have ever encountered. So far the vast majority of his posts have been childish and irrelevant. I am disciplining myself to NOT read any of his bombastic garbage.

Sorry to say that I have been told that Gil was a divisive person on the Wizards since his comeback. In his opinion, players were either with him or against him. He was not a leader who would unite players, but rather a figure-head who would seek to establish and consolidate power. I really thought that Gil would push the Wizards over-the-top and make them a contender, but he was quite the opposite. It turned out that he was very Gil-centric. I appreciate all the fun he provided to Wizards fans. I wish him well, but, because of his negative impact on the Wizards players, I’m glad that he is gone.

I’m not totally crazy about Andray having to play the 5. However, playing Josh at the 3 and Rashard at the 4 with ‘Dray at the 5 might be a good idea for some extended minutes because JaVale just doesn’t have the stamina to provide 30+ minutes at the 5. While we would certainly have to use quickness, rather than height, to rebound, it might work, and we would surely have more scoring power. Coach has a lot more options now. Let’s see how he uses them.

Gil has moved on and it is time for us to move on. Hopefully the addition Rashard Lewis, the activation of Josh Howard and the emergence of a NY who is being given the opportunity to be more of a contributor to the.
We will get a point guard this week.right the top priority is to win on Monday night. No excuses we need a win.
I pray we will learn how to be a better rebounding team.

I am sorry my fellow bloggers do not like the truth.
“Ernie is horrible. He needs to go.”
We have a solid foundation right now.
John Wall
Nick Young
Trevor Booker
Javale McGee
Andray Blatche (yes, even Andray)
Kevin Seraphin
Yi Jianlian
All 7 of these players have not hit Prime Age yet.
Once John Wall gets going. Wow!
All of these players were brought in by Ernie.
Michael Jordan drafted Kwame.
Heck, we almost beat the might Miami Heat who were on an 11 game winning streak.
Which one of my fellow bloggers said we were going to get blown out last night?
Let me check…..

The Andray Lovers are in big trouble:
With Rashard Lewis coming will Andray even start?
Lol
John Wall

Josh Howard
Rashard Lewis
Javale McGee
My guess is that Andray has 3 games to PROVE he is going to play power forward and then Lewis takes over.

That’s all we need: Rashard Lewis and Andray in the front court together. One will hang out at the 3 point lilne on one sideline and the other will hang out on the opposite 3 point line.
Maybe they can do rock, paper and scissors to see who will play down low.
Comment from getabigboyoffense
Time December 19, 2010 at 10:24 PM
I hesitate to even acknowledge what a total know-nothing dafty is. However, the very minute, baring injury, that Lewis replaces Blatche as the starting 4 (unless, of course that ‘Dray is starting at the 5) is the last game that Saunders coaches the Wizards. Andray has totally dominated Lewis for the past two years. I’m certain that Rashard is glad to be with the Wizards so that he doesn’t have to face ‘Dray again.
Comment from getabigboyoffense

I hope that dafty never has the opportunity to coach at any level. He hasn’t a clue as to what is going on. I’d immediately switch my kids/grandkids to hockey if I found dafty coaching any basketball teams on which they played.

Comment from getabigboyoffense
Time December 19, 2010 at 10:55 PM
@ jeffmalone1990 – I’m sure that the majority would acknowledge that you and I are on the same page with regard to the coach and the GM.
Despite what my friend Tom M. might say to the contrary, I believe that good players flourish and become good players under good coaches. The coach is the ultimate authority. I believe that the best player in the world will go unrecognized if his coach does not provide him with opportunities to succeed.. Tom seems to believe that the coach doesn’t matter and the cream will rise to the top. Perhaps… maybe, given the opportunity. I’d bet that there are more than a few professional basketball players who feel that they were unable to demonstrate their abilities because some GMs/coaches decided that they didn’t like that player’s style/attitude/shoes/haircut/etc..

i dont think javale “earned” a spot in the starting lineup. he needs to practice MUCH harder to get better and minimize mistakes.
wall, young, howard, lewis, blatche
in terms of height, its not bad
but we may get killed in rebounding
i do think its the most talented 5 we have and maybe with josh howard in the lineup the intensity level will go up… hopefully
another problem with that lineup would be the lack of shooters and scoring off the bench.
our team really needs some shooters
Comment from tyrone2000

If there is an issue with the coach and GM what can we do? I choose to look at the team we have and go from there. Washington Wizards/Bullets have let very good players go in the past and present and in my opinon the Wizards are back to this and not really starting something new for a new owner. They usually keep their good NBA citizens for years and go 9-19 at the start of the season prior to that 4 year playoff run.

Not a good sign when our bloggers already have Lewis Starting at the Power Forward spot.
So little faith in Andray to keep his spot?
I think there is little chance that Andray plays the Center spot.
1. He is not a Center.
2. We already have 3 Centers on the roster in McGee ( who will be given chance after chance to keep the job),
Kevin Seraphin is also playin Center and is the position he was drafted for and Hilton Armstrong.
Why the little faith in Andray?
The Wizards have $43 million reason over the next 2 years to have Lewis play Power Forward.

POC.. since Hoopshype still has Lester Hudson listed as our “16th” player…. I’m guessing .. maybe?
I’ll be very sorry to see anyone go, but, we do need a point guard and Hamady really hasn’t shown much so far. He really didn’t get enough minutes to show any of the skills he may have. I hope we verbally “retain” him. Big East defensive player of the year is nothing to sneeze at.

Arthritic beat me to it. I was going to complete Gabbo’s “quick” line up of 3-Howard, 4-Lewis, and 5-Blatche… with 1-Wall and 2-Nick. How fast would we be?
Comment from GrifonRacing
Time December 20, 2010 at 2:45 AM
Andray has played center many times in the past for us, and given the circumstances, has usually performed pretty well when used in a position with which he isn’t fully comfortable. I actually like using him at center a little more often. He seems to like to hang out “outside”. He is a lot more effective “inside”. As center he “can “venture” out there, but, can’t camp out there. It may be a large tool in his development?

@ getabig — you keep repeating that I don’t think coaches matter. Of course they matter. I just don’t think “NBA coach A” can very often make guys play better than they play for “NBA coach B.” And the players are the key to wins and losses.
I’m loving all the nicknames for draftazoid, who I’m sure can handle the criticism that also seems to be coming his way.
Comment from Tom Mandel
Time December 20, 2010 at 8:53 AM
Playing Howard and Lewis at the 3 and 4 respectively is a poor idea. Josh is a 2, and Lewis is a much better 3 than he is a 4.
Howard did play well vs. Miami, but he is just coming back. I doubt he is ready to play starter minutes night in night out. So I think it’s Nick at the 2 and RL at the 3.
We aren’t going to win a lot of games this year. The plan is fine.
