Game Day Milwaukee

11:32 AM EST…. Dave Johnson checking in…Sorry for the late start…got in here late last night…and this place makes DC seem balmy. The team responded after a direct meesage sent by Flip Saunders when he replaced all five starters early in the third quarter. Let’s hope for a simpler win tonight. Wizards did start well last night and twice built 11-point first half leads. I thought the game was managed well by Gilbert Arenas  and he worked well with Randy Foye in the back court. The problem was on defesne. We just did not make the critical stops needed in order to extend those 11-point leads. And yes Domenic McGuire was a game changer by just working hard on both ends of the floor.BLOGCAST—radio and  blogging together—starts at 8:00 PM —with Flip Saunders comments—on the dial we have great radio stations from Cumberland to Lynchburg….closer to home our flagship is 106.7 FM THE FAN in Washington and in Baltimore 1370 AM…..and there is  a LISTEN LIVE link on the right side of the BLOG.

7:07 PM EST..Dave and Glenn checking in from the Bradley Center….Randy Foye once again will be in the starting lineup.. along with Arenas, Haywood, Butler, and Jamison……Bucks have Michael Redd back and he will be joined in the back court by Brandon Jennings…Andrew Bogut will start at center with Carlos Delfino and Ersan Ilyasova at forwards.

Did Flip Just Save Our Season?

When he benched the starting 5 and they came back in, I dont think I saw really one bad shot the rest of the way and they attacked the hoop and went forward more in the 4th then theyve done like the whole season combined. If we play like that then our O is hard to stop but these guys just want to settle for long contested 2′s and pass it around the perimiter. Hopefully this carries over and we start attacking, espically Gil. If Gil mixes in the hard drives with his outside game then he will score an easy 30 every night and the other guys will feed off his aggression

the above post is what I wrote yesterday after last night’s game. This is how I feel about the Bucks game:

Some matchups always give us fits and the Bucks usually have some hard matchups for us but this game comes down to one thing and one thing only. Did the Flip benching really have a carry over effect? The starters were much more aggressive in the 4th, took the ball to the hoop or came forward the whole quarter, and I didnt see a single bad shot. If we play like that then we will win because Caron ususally plays well in his hometown, there 4′s cant guard AJ, and if Gil is right & aggressive then he should abuse the smaller Jennings & Luke. Dont bail them out by taking long J’s. If you drive on them then you will get a layup, a foul, or an open shot for someone else. The key matchup is Redd vs Foye & Young. That should be intersesting. I pray that this is one of those games where he doesnt just come off of screens and never misses. If he’s on then he’s very hard to stop with his stroke and him being a lefty no matter how good your D is, espically with him coming hard off screens.

The bottom line is this. Sooner or later we have to win one of these games. Its like every single time this year you thought we were turning the corner, we then get brought back to earth. We cant get any momentum going. Its the same thing for individual players in games. Its like no one can hit 3 or 4 shots in a row. Sooner or later it has to start clicking. Im nearly 100% sure we will beat the Wolves if we win this game so we need this win to make it 4 of 5 going into Memphis with a confident team and a finally confident Arenas. If you do that with Miller soon coming back then everything starts to change

I havent posted in while after seeing how badly the wiz have been playing. who would have ever thought that coming into this year our most inconsistant play would come from the 2 gaurd spot?? I mean with slick, foye, miller, dsteve, dom.. just thought one of those guys would step up and say “THATS MY SPOT!!” but none of them have done that. and miller has been hurt so he cant do anything right now. foye and slick have the best chances right now and i think one of them is going to step up and try to solidify the position b4 miller comes back and takes the opportunity away from them. I looking for both of those guys to have a good game tonight. those are my players to watch! lol

I’ve been listening to Dave’s WTOP reports about last night’s game and I come away very impressed with CB’s response to the mass-benching of the starting 5. He seems genuinely accepting of what took place and gave credit to the second team for getting the team back on track last night. He went up a few notches in my opinion of him…it didn’t hurt that he played so well when he got back into the game.

It could be the spark. ;-)

I really hope the wizards can finally string some wins together starting tonight. I really can’t wait for mike miller to come back because of his shooting and good decision making. Without mike, randy and slick have to contibute consistently. Also I hope antawn’s injuries are not bothering his post play ability. He has not posted anyone up since the sac game when he torched nocioni. That was the game when he got injured. I want to see him do to ilyasova what he did to nocioni. Gilbert has looked good lately and there are some games he is going to have to bail the team out with his heroics and just be a superstar.

I think the wraps came off the real Coach Saunders last night. Not sure there is a way he is going to tolerate much more losing by stupid play. He seemed content to let energy guys go down by 8 before calling on the starters. Frankly, at the end of the game, playing Gil and Earl looked spectacular at times.
Seriously, if you think about it, if we can get AJ or Mike Miller healthy, there are going to be a lot of open shots.

I agree with Phemy, though, FREE MCGEE! (Maybe Brendan could use a few down minutes. He looks tired at times.) Though tonight…could he handle Bogut?
He scored on almost everything he touched against the Pacers. I saw the game and he was unstoppable at times. He had 18 rebounds and 3 assists. He had 5 assists in the Pacers game before that. If Brendan was lethargic last night, he better bring the “A” game tonight!

Dominic McGuire was awesome last night, brought some great energy.

I’m glad Flip made the move to sit down the five starters to wake them up.

Gilbert another strong night last night.

Hope they get another W tonight!!

It looks like Gilbert Arenas is coming back in the game. Hopefully he can help us out a bit during this stretch here.

someone needs to take over now, and someone needs to step the energy up

and for god’s sake move the ball around more, it’s two passes, a shot, and a miss 70% of the time it seems

variety is the spice of life, it’s also a good way to keep a team off balance on defense, and please, step the tempo up, everyone is in cruise control out there

caron is doing it all, hitting in rhythm jumpshots, pushing the break, getting rebounds, and now defending redd very well

Comment from gray16

the wizards should have arenas walking or on a bike or something, usually a knee to the thigh will tighten up if you aren’t moving around

the more boykins moves, the better he looks, it’s the standing still that hurts him, but i think that’s effected by flip’s system a lot

even with the slump, those things happen with even the best teams, the only thing you can do is work through them, and they did

good win for the wizards, 2 in a row, let’s make it a hat trick in minnesota

That was a nice win. Across the board, I thought that the entire team played well. It was the kind of game that most of us had been expecting to see every game. Michael Redd came back very strong, but we were able to contain him after the first quarter, primarily thanks to Slick who has become a defensive stopper.

On a slightly different, but related note, I am really annoyed with Steve Buchantz? What is it with this guy? The man can’t seem to keep up with the game. Frequently he is talking about some stupid statistic and forgetting that there is a game going on. There have been several times lately when there had been some intense action on the court and “Buck” has continued to drone on about something totally unrelated to the game, and then has not bothered to update the listeners regarding the action.

Phil is great…a real gentleman…not only in his knowledge of the game, but with his patience with “Buck”. He overlooks a lot of the stupidity that goes with Buck’s announcing and tries to update as best, and as subtly, as he can.

I want my home team broadcasters to be absolutely and totally biased in favor of the home team. If I want to hear crap about the Wiz, I’ll watch fat Charles rant and rave about the Wiz…his motivation probably fueled by the fact that Mr. Pollin told his buddy MJ to hit the road. At least Charles has some reason for knocking the Wizard players…what is Buck’s reason? If I were a Wizards player I wouldn’t give Buckhantz the time of day.

Home team announcers are supposed to be “homers”. If Buck wants to be otherwise he should try for a job with ESPN… LOL.

I have got to give Caron some very high points for his performance during the past two games. Following the “mass benching” against the Sixers, CB has played like he is capable of playing. He appears to be thinking team-first, as opposed to Caron-first. His reaction of the “mass benching” was what anyone would hope for…he accepted the situation and the Coach’s decision and reacted positively. That is reallyTOUGH JUICE. Way to go CB!

Thanks Flip. I knew you were the “right guy”. Two consecutive wins since Flip took control. Off nights for Nick and Andray but you will have that (I should probably say off night for Nick offensively… good defense once again – who is “this” Nick and I hope the old Nick is long gone :) ) . Very good team game once again. Dukie Again in the 4th. I hope he is wearing a Wizards uniform again next season. I sure like that little guy. Looks like Randy’s ankle has healed. And… seems like the most effected positively by Flip’s command decision is Caron. Agree with Gabbo and you others. Caron is forgetting about contracts and focusing on the team again. Very nice to see. I think Gilbert is almost rust free. Still a little left evidenced by the 7 turn overs (which is certainly not characteristic of him), but, he seems to be getting better and better and a lot more confidant. With the team playing team ball adding Miller to the mix is going to be tricky but I’m sure it will be a dilema Flip will savor.

Let’s Go On a Run!

Go Wizards!

This is my first post ever. Glad to be aboard. I’m getting a wireless notebook for Xmas, then I’ll be able to participate during games. Loved Boykins tonight, still think Caron goes too much one on one, not enough ball movement. Still wish Gil played with more defensive effort on the high screen. Looking forward to participating!
