Practice Day Sacramento

1:28 EST (11:28 AM PST) Dave Johnson checking in and many thanks for staying up late last night on the BLOG. As gray16 noted turnovers and defensive rebounding played. And we just did not manage  things well with a 17-point lead I am on my way to practice. Thanks for staying with us on the BLOG

Hey guys….Just wanted to send a reminder post…

There is to be no SWEARING on the blog. And that includes using acronyms or putting in different symbols for letters.

If we see those types of posts they will be deleted and if it is a constant issue we might have to ban the user from posting.

Once again please think before posting :) . We want everyone to have their say but remember this is a family friendly blog. Thanks guys!

Last night caron or antawn should have gotten the last shot. Oh well. This is a tough time to be a wiards fan.

Well, I guess you can still call me a Wizards fan but I’m not watching them or spending time blogging until something changes. Too depressing.

Got it sportwiz!

The biggest problem with last nights game was the defensive rebounding after the first half. The rebounding turned atrocious, and even when we did grab it, they were closely contested. As I said, for a center to grab one rebound in a half is embarrasing. I was happy however that caron Antawn and Gilbert are looking a lot better.

Looking back on it, the Clippers wanted this game a lot more at the end. I know everyone seems to be playing hard, but I just do not know what is up.

Also, has anyone else noticed that posting up Antwan has seemed to stop. Why is that? It seems like when we are having trouble getting a shot that is a place we could go.

Lots of concerns to go around, but only time will tell with all of this. One more game like this and something will need to be done.

After the game caron and gil complained about the rotation. I know we can’t keep waiting on just one player to get healthy but I really can’t wait to see mike miller play again.

Ok, just finished watching the replay. I don’t know what the stats say right now, but there was no way AJ could handle Kaman or Camby. Also, without an inside presence on offfense, there wasn’t anyone to get them out of the game, except for the fact that they may have needed a rest. While Boykins did fumble the last play, there were a lot of variables that led to the loss.

Funny, Baron Davis told AJ to stop complaining about a foul call late in the game.

They had a nice flat-screen tv to use for replays…lol

The Wiz really just have the “big 3″ and everyone else just gets out of their way. The other players, with the exception of (Duke of) Earl seem to defer to them. Maybe it was good enough when Gil could score at will but that isn’t the case these days

Andray and Randy, who are capable NBA players are atrophying on the bench.

Did anyone notice how Eddie Jordan broke his team’s 12 game losing streak? He changed the starting line-up. That’s how. He chose to bring a high-priced power forward (Brand) off the bench to play the role of 6th man (hint, hint). In doing so he brought more balance to both the starting and second units.

I hope Flip can take the hint. If he does, Antawn will be well rested for the 4th quarter, when we need him. If you havn’t noticed, Antawn starts out strong but fades. Instead of being Mr. First & Third Quarter, He could be Mr. Second and Fourth. The wins will follow.

thanks for the shoutout dave.

@dcbutler, i don’t think jamison was guarding kaman, that was haywood’s check, and haywood didn’t have a good night.

i believe jamison was guarding camby, who went 2-7, he didn’t do a bad job with that matchup.

chenierfan, let’s also remember who the sixers broke their streak against… the warriors.

but i agree, a change in the lineup wouldn’t be a bad idea. but i think bringing antawn off the bench would be a bad idea, that would just lead to the team going back to having horrible starts, like they did before. if anyone should come off the bench, it should be caron imo.

@dcbutler-as you know I have talked about rotations and game management for a while, take a look below

After the game, Arenas and Butler both talked about Flip Saunders’s substitution pattern, which was largely responsible for the Wizards blowing that huge lead. Antawn Jamison gave the Wizards a 67-51 lead with 5:23 left in the third, but Saunders replaced Butler with Dominic McGuire. Shortly thereafter, Saunders sat Arenas after Arenas committed a turnover and his fourth foul.

The Wizards hit a serious lull with five missed jumpers and three turnovers and the Clippers took advantage by scoring the next 13 points and closed within 67-64 when Gordon drove right down the lane for a layup. Dominic McGuire ended an almost five minute scoring drought when he caught a pass from Nick Young and dunked to put the Wizards up by five. Then came the Boykins foul on Davis.

“I felt we subbed a little bit too early,” Arenas said. “I picked up that fourth foul and then I had to sit. Baron Davis brought some life back into them. By the time the fourth quarter came and I got back in, we was down. We got to find a way to sustain leads. We get up, people get relaxed and start doing things they don’t need to be doing.”

Said Butler, “It was a situation where coach, I think thought he had to take some of us out. we had a nice run going and I think Gilbert picked up a fourth foul. I came out. Antawn Jamison was hot, so he was still out there. But Baron Davis, some of them guys got into a rhythm and felt a groove. A team like that, with so much talent, gets a rhythm, it’s kind of hard to cool them off.”

IMO we need a banger at the PF spot and a pass first PG

The Princeton offense was and is tailored made for the BIG 3, in Flip’s system so far it is not working. In the Princeton, it is not predicated on a true PR, it is on ball movement and cuts to the basket, a free flowing offense tha gets everybody involved.

Flip’s offense is more convential NBA, pick n roll sets and high post sets. So there is a need for a true PG in the system to intiate the offense. Also his guards dominate the ball most of the time.

hello JeffM and Gray16,

I just had a post that went to cyberspace, I guess I should have copied it. I’ll just summarize….

Haywood needs a big in there with him. I always saw him and thomas as “backups”. We need an agile, quick off the feet, with some Offensive skills at the four (most importantly on the Defensive end)…

Caron and the crew didn’t say they should have been taken out the other 15 games when they weren’t doing anything….this is where we shall see who has control of this team

At this point the whole blog has a feel for what’s needed, I’m in more of a sit back and watch mood for a while, until it happens.

Comment from dcbutler357

Pertaining to the “backup” comment, I was always mystified about the hoopla over whether either one should be starting….that was taking the focus off the fact that we needed a bonafide starter at the position and we still were lacking the help either one of them would have needed, no matter who was starting, that was a major difference in why we couldn’t get out of the second round 4/5 years ago. Yes, we had ruffin, etc as backups, and “filled in” great, but ALL of them were backups IMO, during that time frame.

Instead of dribbling around trying to breakdown a defensive man in order to get a shot, the Wiz should be getting some open shots out of an inside-out game. It is very telling that B-Wood has 7 assists in 22 games and AJ had 15. A grand total of 1 per game between them. Neither of these guys looks for anyone else once they get the ball. Defenses just collapse on B-Wood. If, once in a while, he would pass to an open man for an easy shot, defenses would think twice about doubling him…same with AJ.

@ChenierFan – I agree with you about using AJ in the 2nd and 4th quarters. He would be a real force in the 4th if he were rested.

I still believe, however, that one way to get this team going is to is trade CB and B-Wood to get a good point guard and some potential and give our young guys a chance to play and grow. Why would we wait until B-Wood simply says good-bye and we get nothing for him. Lots of teams would like to get his expiring contract at this stage. CB is a bona-fide NBA player who simply does not fit into the Wizards offensive scheme. ALmost ever team in the league would give us real value to get him.
