Game Day Detroit (Okay Auburn Hills)
8:30 AM EDT…Dave Johnson in a place that always bring back memories…it was in Detroit (Auburn Hills) in late January of 2007 that the Wizards beat the Pistons and the Wizards were on their way to the top of the Eastern Conference with Gilbert Arenas as a starter in the All-Star game. That was the past and I am not dwelling on it but my mind wandered as I walked the lonely streets of Birmingham ,Michigan on a Sunday morning..The Wizards are trying to move forward and there has been progress. Arenas to me has looked better and better later in games which is something we did not see earlier in the season. Arenas of course had 34 points and several swagger-inducing shots but then admitted he was looking for a foul on his final drive to the basket that resulted in a missed layup. But Friday was not about the end. It was about the beginning. The Wizards should not have allowed the Raptors to build a 22-7 lead…Then the Wizards fell into an old pattern–yes they did come back—but it was too much of a scramble with a lot of jump shots–only 18 points in the paint on Friday…Pistons bothered by injuries to Richard Hamilton and Ben Gordon so Chucky Atkins is starting….thanks for the wonderful response on the BLOG Friday..let’s do it again tonight…BLOGCAST—radio and blogging together—starts at 6:00 PM with Flip Saunders comments—on the dial we have great radio stations from Cumberland to Lynchburg….closer to home our flagship is 106.7 FM THE FAN in Washington and in Baltimore 1370 AM…..and there is a LISTEN LIVE link on the right side of the BLOG.
4:24 PM EST—Dave and Glenn checking in—last time against the Pistons…. Wizards paid for a slow start and then fourth quarter turnovers spelled doom….we saw it on Friday–need to have a good start tonight….Pistons are coming off nice win over Bucks when they had a season high 28 assists.
4:53PM EST….starters are in…Wizards will have Arenas and Young at guards…Haywood in the middle with Butler and Jamison as forwards…Pistons again will use Chucky Atkins and Rondey Stuckey in back court..Ben Wallace in middle with Jason Maxiell and Jonas Jerbeko. at forwards…Jerebko is a rookie from Sweden who played in Italy last year on the same team with Maryland’s James Gist

Go wizards, once again even though I’m not suprised there were so many antawn jamison haters in the loss to toronto. He played bad and settled for j’s but everyone forgets we were 2-7 without him. Flip is always talking about how we are suppose to start the way we finish and he said we should start by throwing it inside to twan in the post. Still everyone says he should come off the bench because we were getting off to such blazing starts in our first nine games without him.

carn wiz…. im sick of all the haters on this blog getting on the wiz back as soon as they drop a game. if u are a real wiz fan u will persist through all the games (win or loss). stop jumping up and down like little girls as soon as we hit a bump. it is going to take time….chill u fakes.
win or loss… its a win as long as the wiz play well and mesh a little more. (we r concentrated on playoffs idiots!)

SCJ190 we as bloggers give props when we see them and give constructive criticism when necessary also. No one on this blog is just criticizing for the sake of it, we all give possible solutions. You are more than welcome to join in rather than calling people out of their name (which I will not stoop to giving a label). We consider this a classy blog, please help us to keep it that way. Much Love.
LET’S GO WIZ

again Friday was nopt about the end but the start…wizards got behing and then played home run basketball by launching too many threes

and again all nba teams have times when they don’t play well..
again 29 3 point attempts in friday’s loss..
during strecth when we won 4 of 5..only averaged about 12 three point attempts per game

sorry, just woke up. that last message was a bit of a drunken rant (and a harsh one at that). my apologies. But all im saying is that real fans dont just give up on a team. like when we win everyone is happy to talk post season, but as soon as we drop a game its like “trade caron” “trade AJ”. it just sucks. i love this team that much that i would rather support them through tough time than see them split up. maybe thats just me, but thats what i believe being a real fan is all about. sticking by your team through thick and thin

Once again Flip decided to start with the small line-up of 3 guards, one small forward and and center. The tiny Wizards take on the Pistons.
As Einstein said:” The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”
Luckily the Pistons are depleted so the Wiz may over come Flip’s stuborness. But maybe not.

Really tough game. I hope it was a fluke but we are better than 7-12. We need to have guys that play at a consistent level every game.

GroundHog Day AGAIN, and AGAIN, and AGAIN, and … when are we going to make a significant change for the better (and, Yes, I do realize that we have won 4 of the last 7 games). I’m talking about the quality of b-ball that the Wizards are playing.
CB played 35 minutes, AJ played 37 minutes. They shot a combined 12/33 from the field (another sub-40% game); had a total of 12 rebounds (our double/double machine, AJ, had TWO rebounds); they were 4/11 from three-point land; made just over 50% of their free throws (5/11). “The ball stops here’ ONCE again had ZERO assists. My, my, #4 also had ZERO assists. They did manage to turn the ball over 5 times.
Can anyone else see the correlation between their statistics and our win/loss record? Can anyone imagine any other coach/team that would put up with that.
The Big Three has become the Terrible Three because of the Three Egos. A message for gIl, CB, and AJ: none of you is going to the All-Star game on merit so stop playing for yourselves and start playing for the team.
Coach Saunders, please give serious consideration to playing AJ and CB, both, off the bench..and I don’t mean a token 5 minutes sitting before they get into the game. Start: Earl (1), gIl (2), Slick (3), ‘Dray (4), B-Wood (5). Get some SERIOUS minutes for McGee. We don’t care if he fouls out in the first quarter. Give him some time to learn.
If gIl can’t play any better defense than he has demonstrated thus far, only use him for the last 10 seconds of each quarter and let him launch his SportsCenter threes.
This is getting VERY old, VERY fast!

The consensus is building to make a change in the starting line-up. What can it hurt? The Wiz have zero momentum in the first quarter, where the tone of the game is set.
Nick looks like he is walking on egg shells at the begining of the game. Things would be different if Antwn and Caron were playing at an all-star level, but guess what, they’re not.
Big mistake putting DeShawn in there. Both his offense AND his defense are not at NBA level anymore. Flip is giving him a chance but we are sacrificing games in the process.
Andray is now a capable NBA player and should get the start just to get more size/defense/rebounding/passing in there. Nick will loosen up with Andray in there. Antawn will get more time to play against second unit personnel and be more effective – his game is perfectly tailored for 6th man role.
I like a second unit of: Antawn, (Duke of) Earl, Randy, Javalle, and Dom.
Other thoughts…
That was the best game out of Randy in a while.
Earl continues to play well.
DeShawn needs to play behind Dom & Randy.
Unless Flip makes some changes, expect more of the same. This first unit has had enough time to play together and in ain’t working. My guess is that he gives it 5 more games.

only caught the fourth quarter. from what i saw, the wizards just weren’t making shots, especially down the stretch. they were getting good looks, things were just not falling, and a team can’t win like that. can’t get mad at the wizards for that. but i didn’t see the first three quarters so i don’t know about those.

I want to see Boykins, Arenas, Nick, Andray, Haywood.
Second unit: Foye, Caron, Dom, Jamison, Mcgee.
PLEASE!
AND ARENAS! Shoot at least 15 times a game. You don’t build rhytm taking 2 shots in the first quarter.

Yeah Boykins getting up more shots than Gil seems a bit odd.
I don’t understand Gil at all… 25 shots one night, nine the next, etc.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall in that locker room.

On this particular blog comment, I will say that I hope all is well with Gil. He obviously isn’t where he wants to be right now (physical abilities). I wish him well in his pursuit of finding out what he is or isn’t as a point guard or as a leader of the team, regardless if he wants to be the leader or not. Life is a beautiful thing, embrace what God has blessed you with, and make the most of it. In saying that, I wish all the Wiz good luck on the rest of the year, soon, this will all be behind us and we’ll be doing the chest bumps
Peace.

Here’s a great tidbit from NBA.com Steve Aschburner
RIP, Abe Pollin: Didn’t know much about the longtime and recently deceased owner of the Washington Wizards but I was reminded in his obits of several reasons to admire him. There was his willingness to build not one but two great facilities for his team through the years, when most others scrounge for public funding. There was his staredown with Michael Jordan, thus avoiding Jordan’s less-than-Jerry-West-like results as a team executive. And there was the memory of the 1998-99 lockout, when Jordan rudely suggested that Pollin sell his franchise if he couldn’t afford new millennium NBA prices. That’s the negotiating session where snot-nosed Stephon Marbury dissed Pollin, already a league elder statesman, by saying, “Look at the old dude,” during the back-and-forth with Jordan.

Yeah, well, look at that young dude now … on YouTube rather than on any NBA roster.

As in any profession, with the priviledges, come the responsibilities. All in all, a lot of people know not what they do. We are bigger people if we accept deficiencies in others and try to help them, rather than ostracize people. At the end of the day we are all human, and some of us just didn’t get the proper guidance, to either make the proper choice, or for someone to even tell us that we are wrong (depending on one’s stature). Some are put on pedestals, not knowing what their “total” role encompasses. I wish them all well, because they are all human.
