Nick Young To Start on Tuesday

SportzWiz checking in…Just got back from practice and a few notes. Nick Young will start tomorrow against the Sixers tomorrow in place of Mike Miller. According to Flip and his teammates, Nick has had several good days of practice in a row. Caron Butler also had an MRI on his right ankle today, his status for tomorrow’s game is unclear at this point, as soon as we get an update I will let you know.

Gilbert, Antawn and Flip talked after practice and we will have videos of their comments coming up soon.

Great article about Mike Miller, and why we sorely are going to miss him!

http://www.bulletsforever.com/2009/11/22/1169723/if-mike-miller-is-out-for-a-month

Everything that’s written there is soooo true! Here’s wishing Mike a speedy recovery!I sure hope Nick Young is going to make the most of this opportunity. Wow, going from DNP status to becoming a starter doesn’t happen all that often, I guess!

Do good nick, this is your chance, but do not ball hog because we have enough of that.

What in the world is going on with the Wizards? Nick Young goes from DNP to starting? And he did not even dress for the last game? First and foremost I am very happy for Nick, and he and Arenas should play well however STARTING?

PG Arenas
SG Young
SF Butler
PF Jamison
C Haywood

Ok so here’s the question, what’s wrong with this starting line up? Outside of the fact that it is set up fpr jump shooting and me first basketball? Again I am optimistic, but man why on earth would you not start Boykins a PG? So your second unit will have Foye and Boykins in the backcourt? REALLY? This line up says too me we are going to try and average 108 pts a game and go live with the results.

So if Young can go from DNP too starter, what would it take for McGee and DMAC?

Looks like caron is not going to go tomorrow according to gil’s comments. I’m guessing arenas, young, jamison, blatche, and haywood. I don’t want to get ahead of myself but even with injuries the team should be hoping to win all 3 of its games this week. Two of three at home and two games against southeast division opponents. All games against eastern foes, these are the games we have to win to make up some ground.

@AJ-I hope we will have a good week, however with Caron in or out, I am not in favor of the lineup. We may be able to get through the 76ers with it because Coach Jordan will play a smaller line up at times. Again Arenas must be moved to the SG position and have a PG set him up and run Flip’s offense.

I wish it was

Boykins
Arenas
Young (if Butler is out)
Blatche
Haywood

this line up versus the 76er’s I would like because we have some help for Haywood with Blatche on defense.

Foye
Jamison
McGee
DMAC

Coming off the bench…….One can dream right? This is not a knock on Twan, I think we need some leadership off the bench with the young guys, and it is a role he would do well in, whether starting or coming in with the second unit.

Comment from gray16
Time November 23, 2009 at 6:02 PM

boykins is best off the bench imo because he is the spark off the bench. who knows how he would do as a starter, some people just love the bench role and play best at it.

as for young starting, i like it. he can help with the slow starts as well, and will help with the ball moving around. of course if he gets an open look he will put it up, but that’s not a bad thing imo. with him on the floor, he won’t be watching arenas like a lot of people have the tendency of doing, and he will probably help with a faster tempo style game.

if caron is out, i expect dom to get some more minutes. with miller and caron out, he and deshawn will be the only guys who can play sf’s on defense, with blatche filling in as well at times. but even with caron struggling, i hope he gets well soon because he just needs to break out of his funk to get it going again.

this could be old news to you guys, but i came across this post on another forum i post on.

look at the first post on the page by a guy named og15 (a very bball knowledgeable guy)

he talks about arenas recent comments and then goes on to talk about some interesting things about caron

Comcast sportsnet said that gil basically called out caron when he said 14 out of 15 ppl get along but just one guy does not get along with the team. Caron just said he can’t control what another say about him. Gil’s mouth is definately running wild again.

LOL…Somebody give Gil a hug and tell him we only pay attention to what you do Baseline to Baseline. The grade-school stuff/talk doesn’t fly over here. Don’t become an illness in the locker-room.

Oh for goodness sake why has this team come to this. Gilbert if my favourite player but he has no right to come in here after two years of not playing and say all this crap.

Comment from gray16
Time November 23, 2009 at 9:07 PM

to be honest, i don’t even care what happens in the locker room, i only care what happens on the court, like dcbutler said. of course the stuff in the locker room can boil out to the court, and that’s the bad part. i’m kind of wondering like the guy in my post, if caron is on his way out.

but if caron is on his way out, let young take his spot. there’s nothing caron is doing this season young can’t do, other than caron’s better rebounding, and nick’s better 3 point shooting. but if butler hasn’t been giving 100% and nick is going to, nick playing doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me.

Comment from datonypony
Time November 23, 2009 at 9:11 PM

Yeah of course gray, but if you are having serious problems with someone it’s hard to play the same way together on the court. Bad chemistry off court pretty much inevitably leads to bad playing on the court together.

I told you guys early on about the insecurities and agendas but Gil and Caron are not the culprits. The Carolina(EGO U) guys need to start with the men in the mirror.Gil is the truth and just wants to win. He sacrificed his game and $ to make this team better. And Tough Juice is the heart of this squad.Tell you how to find out who’s real or not, ask any of them who would be willing to come off the bench in favor of some enormous young talent that Ernie has assembled.Brendan would rather fight like a girl than give up his spot (see Etan)

Comment from gray16
Time November 23, 2009 at 9:36 PM

that’s true. i find it funny (and sad) the two guys who are playing the worst for the team right now (arenas and butler) are the two guys feuding.

i’m just looking for a fresh start this week with the young guys hopefully getting some time. young’s got the start, javale deserves the backup center position, and dom deserves 15+ minutes with (or without) caron out.

Comment from Wizards4Life

i dont know why we would ship caron out when we all know we can win games with out Arenas its a proven fact i say if anyone gose it should be him the only reason he is still here is his huge payout just think if we could trade Arenas for Wade we would be 10x better and young is not good at all if he were to try and do what Caron has done you would quickly see how bad he realy is

Why in the world would Heat want Arenas?

Comment from gray16
Time November 23, 2009 at 10:11 PM

what has caron done this season? imo in 37 minutes per game, young could get 16 ppg, 1.2 apg, and shoot at least 40%. the only thing caron has done well this season is rebound, but even a lot of them have come off of his own misses.

what caron has done this season imo is nothing special.

and caron can’t lead a team any further than arenas can. caron is not a leader, he’s not a go to guy. he’s less consistant than arenas, and his bball iq has alway been low. not to mention he’s just as injury prone as arenas, if not more.

and we don’t know that THIS team can win without arenas. without a doubt that first season arenas missed, this team did good, but that was due to a bunch of factors. we don’t know what THIS team would do without arenas. plus nobody’s going to touch that contract anyway.

No one needs to be traded, only persuaded. This is truly up to Ernie and Skip now.The talent level is there and over time my instincts tell me to trust Skip knows what he has and will max them out.He has Gil playing the type of defense that he was always capable of but that Eddie could never communicate. And where is this feud betweenCaron and Gil (my fav 2).I thouhgt is was Gil and Brendan. Can anyone clear this up for me please.

Caron this season has done nothing do to the statements made by the guy who has the ball in his hand 99% of the time once he gets it he tries to make the play were there is none because if he dose not he wont get the ball again… last year Caron was one of the best players on a losing team and the year B4 that he and AJ lead the team to a first round dance in the playoffs.. and yes Caron is a leader of this team more than Arenas who refused to take the job when asked to by EJ and how is Arenas a go too guy he has the worst 4th qts of any player on the team even the bench…
Young on the other hand has played some this year he came in missed the entire basket then he shot a fade away from a mile out with a hand in his face because he tried to get around a guy and could not do it and instead of passing the ball he just threw it up hoping it would go in

and just to add to what i was saying Caron over the last 3 games 17-42 and Arenas over the last 3 games 20-60 yeah that’s right almost 20 more shots just to get 3 more baskets sad for both guys to tell you the truth..

but i guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one

Comment from gray16
Time November 23, 2009 at 11:18 PM

both arenas and butler have played horrible this season, i think we can both agree to that.

don’t think i like the way arenas is playing, but there is no getting rid of him and that contract.

as far as butler, i don’t think and never have thought he was a player you build around. i see him more as a support player. but that’s just my opinion on him.

I am so disappointed with our record..The wizards are one of the more talented teams in the league but cant seem to get any easy baskets and its so simple that when there is ball movement we make runs in games take the Dallas game in the begining of the year we had the ball moving and kept the defense guessing….part of that was because of Oberto which is why i think he should start the next game. he keeps the ball moving and is our pointguard up front ..we need obertos pass first mentality to balance things out offensively bacause right now we are exactly that jeffmalone1990 a jump shooting and me first basketball team which really bugs me!!

oh and as for young, i would rather judge him off of meaningful minutes than just one game of barely any minutes. i’d rather judge him off of his previous years and years in college more than just one game this season.

young has shown he can score the ball, he just relies on confidence. of course he is going to make mistakes at first, but he’s young and just needs a coach to teach him not to bench him for doing stuff starters are doing (both arenas and caron take plenty of “what was that?” type of shots).

and it sounds like nick has shown up to play in practice so that could mean he wants his minutes. you could tell he never liked sitting and i remember him saying after last season he didn’t want to sit for another season. so mabye he is going to give it his all to get back in this lineup, and that’s a good thing.

but of course their always the chance that he’s just getting a chance because of injuries and he doesn’t make the most of it, but at this point i’d rather look for light at the end of the tunnel than just keep looking forward to the worst. i mean at this point, i don’t have much else to look forward to with this team lol, might as well look forward to some added youth and talent in the lineup.

I’m sitting here watching league pass and I’m like, why does everyone else look normal in their offensive sets. WE DON’T HAVE A BIG MAN DOWN LOW. Ok, we have Dray developing an offensive? game, and AJ, but he shoots a lot of jumpers also. Unless I am purely forgetting somebody, we don’t have an offensive big man…….Geez, no wonder if we don’t hit jumpers, we are just “out there”

this team needs to understand that when you win:everyone gets noticed.real superstars are the ones who make the others around them better.do we have any real superstars…………

i am with you on that i think if young gets some time to see if he can get into a flow.. when he starts to hit he is hard to stop but if he is off he just trys way too hard needs to let the game come to him.. an why do we not try and feed Haywood i am sure he can get some easy shots just like every other center if you give him a chance just tell him to not jack up crazy fade aways and pass back out if its not there

Comment from gray16

dcbutler, the wizards don’t necessarily need a big man down low, they just need someone to take that position

look at the bulls, they never needed it, why? because mj was able to take that role.

look at how melo is able to play the post up position which can help his team, how kobe can help his team with it, they all do it because mj was able to fill that void for his team and his team had so much success with it.

this is why i said butler should try to become that type of player but he’s never shown the will to do it. gilbert used to do it (in limited amounts) but i haven’t seen it from him much this season.

actually tbh, the best post up player the wizards have at the 1-3 is nick young, he has shown an ability to score there quite often. he has always had a lot of confidence in that fadeaway shot from the post. i never understood why the wizards never utilized this as a weapon when it worked so many times for him.

I’m sorry Mike Miller and Caron are hurt. I’m glad Coach Saunders wants to give Nick some love, but, against this team may be a mistake. Igudala is their best all around player. Unless they are planning to start Dominic at the 3 and put him on Iggy we are pretty much doomed from the start. I’m not worried about Nick’s offense, but, there is no way at this point in his career he can guard Igudala.

The match up at the 4 should be interesting with Brand being from Duke and Antawn being from North Carolina :)

We should have the advantage at the 5 with Brendan vs Dalembert. And at the one if Gilbert gets out of his funk.

If Flip has a way to slow down Iggy without using just Nick ok. Otherwise I hope he rethinks things before 7 pm tomorrow night

Comment from dcbutler357

Gray, I hear ya, but everyone on those teams know their roles and pretty much stay focused (doesn’t happen here yet, except for Brendan, but he rarely touches the ball on O, so when he does, he’s getting his freak on…lol) I guess we do have somewhat of a Carmelo in AJ (I SAID SOMEWHAT…LOL..) does AJ get assists?

Javalle could be like Noah on the bulls or Christensen on Denver….MAN!!, JAVELLE SHOULD BE ON HIS WAY TO BEING A BEAST….USE THOSE HOPS WHILE YA GOT EM :!: :!: :!: AND THAT WINGSPAN
Talking about mis-management of resources….
Rudy from Portland is a beast and Oden is tearing the bulls up tonight!!

Guys watch RIck’s Rant on Nba.com. It’s so simple even for outsiders who are not like us. Sigh.

I think Nick should try his best against Igoudala, it’s not like Igoudala has that much skill anyway, just athleticism.
