Game Day Indiana
6:34 AM…Dave Johnson checking in…. and ready to get back to .500…It is clear we are better defensively this year and certainly the return of Brendan Haywood has helped that but we have also been aided by Fabricio Oberto’s presence when he has been on the floor…Gilbert Arenashas become a better off the ball defender..And rebounding is a part of defense and we are a better rebounding team this year…Wizards are holding opponents to 43% shooting from the field…three point numbers hurt by the success of the Cavaliers and Heat the last two games….On to tonight and the Pacers and I would expect Randy Foye to start along side Arenas in the back court with Mike Miller out with a sprained shoulder…The Pacers are also dealing with some injuries and Troy Muprhy is listed as day to day with a back injury. …BLOGCAST—radio and blogging together—starts at 7 with Flip Saunders comments—on the dial we have great radio stations from Cumberland to Lynchburg….closer to home our flagship is 106.7 FM THE FAN in Washington and in Baltimore 1370 AM…..and there will be a LISTEN LIVE link to listen on the computer…..
5:27 PM…Dave and Glenn checking in from Conseco Field House UPDATE NICK YOUNG WILL START AT 2 guard
6:30 PM….Starters are in…It will be Arenas and Youg in the back court…Oberto and Butler are the forwards and Haywood the center…Pacers will go with…TJ Ford Brandon Rush as guards..Dahntay Jones and Danny Grangers are the forwards and Roy Hibbert is in the middle

this season has started off, not quite how i thought it would. teams i didn’t expect to do good are doing great, and teams i expected to do great aren’t doing good.
but the wiz need to stay at least at .500 till twan comes back, so that the team can get a good seeding for the playoffs. of course there is also 77 games left, so there is no reason to panic.
caron is going to have a tough night both ways tonight against granger. granger is a pretty good defender so he will be able to take care of butler, and butler is going to have his hands full trying to slow down granger. hopefully butler does better than the last game, because the wizards need a second scoring option.

caron only needs to do 1 thing against granger tonight – just drive the ball to the hole. granger is a terrible defender on the move and caron needs to exploit it.
with that said, caron can’t be careless with the ball. he’s a much better player than the one we’ve seen.
if foye is hitting shots and blatche goes back to being game 3 blatche, the wiz have a real good chance to take this on the road.

Hola!!
If DMac always checked the oppositions best offensive threat last season, where does he fit into the mix this season? In our last game, DMac could’ve/should’ve got some floor time, and probably would have held dwade to 50 also

wade was too crafty to let any pesky wiz defender slow him down. he was on a mission to expunge all his energies to take down arenas on the road. all in all, i thought wade made some tough jumpers and arenas made bad decisions in the 4th quarters; however, wade just cruised to the basket for layups early in the game and that got his mindset into attack mode the entire game.
flip certainly has more patience than eddie jordan when the game was slipping. flip stuck with his guns and didnt dig deep to get nick or someone else to jumpstart the offense.

The Wizards will bounce back tonight.
Has anyone been watching how ESPN has been making a big deal over the no call for the Queen last night against the Bull? That is the type of stuff that drives me crazy. I know he is THE superstar in the league, but jeez it is not that big of a deal if he does not get a call. That is the NBA.

As far as Flip:
Maybe what Flip is doing is all just a bit of experimentation; seeing who “fits” and who doesn’t. The beauty about the NBA is that there are 82 games in a season. What better time to do it then now. That’s just my POV though; his determination of who stays, who goes.
@IIballa – Of course they’ll be llballa19! His name is F(ing) Lebron! Or, in us Wiz fans terms “The Queen” et al LMAO. We sure are some craaazzzy fans lol.

Blog’s should not be censored!
What makes a REAL blog a real blog is the community within it.
Let us (the washingtonwizardsblog.com community) dictate what gets discussed.
The minute admin starts playing around with comments a blog loses it’s guts.
I think we all do a damn good job keeping each other in check on here & yesterdays tabloid crap took care of itself after 20 posts (not 200), so don’t panic & get all “admin” on us guys.
We all know that this is a Wiz blog dealing with Wiz on court issues 95% of the time. Every once in a while other things connected to the Wiz permeate the discussion. We get to quickly see if anyone cares, & then we move on.
I personally have nothing to contribute to the “tabloid” discussion, but I do not think our admin should be in anyway involved in censorship.
The community here is probably the most professional in all of the NBA team blogs.
Let the community handle itself.

@ M2
Visiting bloggers are subjected to the rules set forth by the Washington Wizards organization and the NBA. They can do whatever they want, no matter if this medium is really defined as a blog or not.
From its early beginnings, this blog just showed up one day and it led to Tom M. and I jawing about the Wiz with others following suit later. No established rules were ever written or stated. It was like when someone breaks a rule – that’s when the enforcement took place.
For those that come here a lot, they know I am the rulebreaker. I think I have more of my posts deleted than any other blogger. I make up 0.08% of the deleted posts. As a ticket holder for xx years now, I hear and observe worse things at the Verizon Center. I will never take children to the Penthaus levels because that’s where the ugly commentary can be heard more than in the lower bowls. There is no censorship at the Verizon Center, even though Kevin reads the rules to everyone about 30 minutes before tip-off; as mandated by the NBA. This blog, even at its absolute worst, is not even close to live action at the arena.
I use this blog to reflect what I saw and what I read about the Wiz and the NBA. Some think what gray16 posted is gossip; I think it’s information that didn’t have enough time to materialize for anyone to make a correct judgment on whether it is “tabloidish/gossip” or “fact”.
Comment from SportzWiz

M2 i would say the rules that you see here are agreed on by most blogs and people that are on here…we have bloggers of all ages on here, and yes some topics are not appropriate…when they are not we take them down…you also wont see swearing on this blog, bashing of any of our bloggers by other bloggers…you can argue, but thats not going to change on here.

@ Wiz Hype Man
I mean don’t get me wrong I know he is on top of the game. He is a likable character when he is not playing the Wizards.
At the same time that play would have been a no call if it was Gilbert against the Cavs. At this point I already know what to expect from officiating when we play the Cavs, so there is really no point in getting mad anymore.
I call him the Queen b/c of the way he acts anytime someone touches him. He makes every little bump or bruise seem like it was a hard foul, when he is always one of the biggest dudes on the court. But don’t get me wrong, I know he puts up numbers on a daily.
Its not like I just started watching basketball yesterday, lol.

Welcome back Bridgy.
This site is sponsored by the Wizards. We have to expect some censorship. Not having some would risk a whole lot of bad ink if things got nasty and were read by the wrong sorts. I don’t begrudge the Wiz that. I do hope, however, that SportzWiz is using a very long/lax leash.
Slick is starting! I guess Flip has decided it’s his turn to give it a go. I trust he’ll have at least as many games as Stevenson had to prove himself.

“I am totally surprised how effective Gil has been able to be without him. Again bloggers and Dave and Glenn, I will say it again, look at the assists per game, and that will tell you how good or bad the Wizards are doing……….
Wizards win at the Mavs…(29 assists)……..Wizards Win at Nets (28 assists)…In the lost vs Hawks 19 assists, Cavs in the lost (12 assists)…and the Heat (15 assists)
So again, look at the assists, and ball movement, when we have it we win, I am POSITIVE this will continue for the entire year!

@dcbutler they have a system, it just has not be consistent game to game? Arenas no matter who is at the 4 or 5, should be running the pick n roll. Double picks should be in play with Foye, and Young. With Haywood, feed the post reward the big man so he can keep giving you energy and effore and get Hibbert in foul trouble. Arenas should have the ball at the top of the 3 pt line, always to initiate the offense! Dray should also get in the low past, again the Pacers are just playing fundemantal, keep it simple stupid basketball.

Okay, so out of all our bigs, Oberto is the only one that knows how to run the offense. Oberto just has fundamentals, no leaping out of the gym athleticism, but he gets layups, while the others are trying to jump over people……Fundamentals out-weigh athleticism any day….

AND FOR CRYING OUT LOUD….As much as Caron and Gilbert get burnt on D, that should not be used as a reason NOT to play Javale and NY….Too much stock is put in CB, Gil and Jamison (I can’t call them the big three anymore, they haven’t done anything to be called “BIG”).
One thing we talked about last year is accountability. Allstar (in the past) or not, make all accountable and get this ship resurrected. It’s only going to be the beginning of the season for a few more nights….

After the Heat game I blamed the loss on rust, now I just hope that we’re not rusted solid. If so, we’ll have to swap out the rusted parts.
I wanted to write about our perimeter defense…but, sorry there’s nothing there to write about. It simply does not exist.
Okay, how about our offense. Gil or Randy: dribble around until there’s little time on the clock and pass the ball to a forward…oh, oh, that sounds just like last year. Okay how about this: pass the ball to Caron and see if anyone else gets to touch the ball…damn, that’s just like last year too.
No offense, no defense. Coach Saunders… coach. Take the team back from the vets who were spoiled last year into thinking that THEY ran this team.
Comment from dcbutler357

Tonights effort was unexceptable because many teams have injuries but only the wizards feel sorry for themselves. I think nick young only looks for his shot and gilbert hasn’t found the right balance in his attack. Our offense needs more movement and I hope twan and m and m come back by next saturday. If anything they will be more energy to the team. Let’s go wizards let’s beat the suns and stop feeling sorry for ourselves.

3. Gilbert Arenas is one of the most exciting players in the NBA.
4. Gilbert Arenas is a leader.

I got depressed and turned it off with 9 minutes to go but I presume nothing happened to change my opinions.
The bright spot was Haywood. I predicted career years for Haywood, Blatche and Young. We’ll see.
Why start Young and play him so little?
Neither Stevenson nor Oberto are in my rotation. I know a lot of you like Oberto but in my book his good points are offset by his fouls, turnovers, and lack of rebounds.

Comment from GrifonRacing
Time November 6, 2009 at 11:55 PM
Neal I agree with “everything” you said. Young having a career year might be a stretch lol, but, everything else…. spot on.
Haywood certainly isn’t disappointing anyone and Blatche (until tonight… of course) has been consistently very good.
They started Nick and played him so little because he was stinking up the joint lol. That kid needs to let all the distractions go and focus. I don’t know when of if that will ever happen, but, if it does that kid has potential through the roof.
I have no idea what’s up with Stevenson? For a guy that 2 seasons ago hit more 3 pointers than he had in his entire career combinded to that point he sure is shooting a lot like Michael Ruffin so far.
I don’t want the Suns Sunday lol. Somebody change the schedule and give us Memphis or somebody lol

I agree, Grifon. I like Foye’s D better than Stevenson’s.
We played like a bunch of individuals for the most part.
Butler is shooting his FT’s with straight legs. No flex at all that I can see. I’m sure I would have noticed if he had been doing that last year.
And don’t they teach these guys to follow their shots? Someone puts a shot up and then just stands there to see if it goes in. My HS B-team coach would not have been happy.

Gray my friend it didn’t offend me on little bit. Never feel like you have to apologize. It was a “little” tabloid for here, but, hey that’s what the news talks about these days.
Caron will have his hands full trying to guard Danny Granger tonight. The Wiz have played well at Conseco Fieldhouse the last couple of visits there and I hope the team can get back to winning. The team really needs a win right now because they’re last in the SE division. Heck, even Charlotte has a better record than the Wiz! And those other teams are at 4-1; hence the Wiz can’t fall that much more behind.
