I agree with your points, Tom, except I'm not sure how really good we're looking. After the first 10 minutes we looked too much like the jump shooting Wiz we've been for so long.

I did see fewer open jump shots by the enemy, however.

Fans always think their team doesn't get calls from the refs. In fact, we went to the line 41 times last night to only 27 times by the Cavs.

We also outrebounded them. On the other hand, if you consider the composite stat of rebounds plus steals minus turnovers, they had the edge by 3. Still fairly even.

We lost because we couldn't hit the 3 and we couldn't defend the 3.

Mike Miller needs to shoot more; I don't get why the offense isn't providing him w/ more opportunities -- and I don't know why he isn't more opportunistic when the offense breaks down. A number of times I thought he passed to guys with tougher shots (who then took them and missed).

We're still looking like a good team -- I thought the first quarter was the best I've ever seen a Wizards team play.

That one play when Haywood was going for a basket and Shaq had his hand shoving and another Cavs player hit him in the head but the refs called in offensive foul...The Cavs mainly L James complained almost the entire game on each call that went against him. Even the obvious calls were seen as a bust. That got the refs to start blowing their whistles in favor of the Cavs...

I thought Haywood did well against Shaq. Blatche and McGee looked hopeless.

A wise man once said (taken from msn.com)

They slowed the game down and pounded the ball inside to their big man, forcing JaVale McGee, Andray Blatche and Brendan Haywood to hack or pay. McGee picked up four fouls in less than 10 minutes.

Haywood felt O'Neal was getting too many calls.

"In the first half we had 12 fouls on our bigs alone," Haywood said. "You read in between the lines all you want to. It definitely took away our aggressiveness. No one could be aggressive as they wanted to because you knew you were strapped with fouls."

We played horriby against Shaq tonight and it cost us. We allowed him to dominate the paint and get our bigs into foul trouble by the middle of the 2nd quarter. Swiping at the ball while in Shaq's hands will get you a foul no matter how legitimate the 'swipe" is.

We have shot the ball well until tonigt. Too much pressure playing the Lebron's? I'd really hate to think that.

Lebron is Lebron and he IS going to get every call. We know that going in. Gilbert not being Gilbert tonight cost us as well.

I hope Flip has a better game plan for Dwade and his motly cast of characters that are setting the BB world on fire.

Oberto will get more layups than all of our big men....he knows how to set the pick up top and then roll to the basket, rather than run out for a jumper, he also knows basic fundamentals better than our big men, and probably has better hands. With his experience, and if our bigs watch him, that will pay HUGE dividends. while he may only be worthy of spot duty, our bigs could add wealth to their careers if some of his skills were incorporated in theirs. To sum it up, Oberto does things that are taken for granted or overlooked.

man there is a lot of talk here about how bad the refs were. what about the 1st qtr? were the refs good then?

the cavs got called for 25 fouls and we got called for 27. i'm not saying that every call was good, and that calls were not missed, but we did not lose this game because of the refs.

i agree that Caron needs to cut out the one-on-one, haywood needs to kick the ball out to wide open perimeter players when the D collapses inside, and Arenas needs to play better perimeter defense, and pretty much every other criticism on here.

However, all in all, it could have been worse. Playing the Cavs on their home court without Antawn and showing signs of dominance in the 1st qtr are good things to take away.

It's a long season, but so far it seems like the games when Blatche plays well, we win.
