All-Time Wizards Team: Point Guard

SportzWiz checking in…Just over one month away from training camp and there is a lot of talk about how this is one of, if not the deepest Wizards team in recent memory. Saying that, I want to hear from each one of you on your all-time Wizards roster. With 15 possible roster spots, you are allowed to pick three guys from each position and we will break down a different position each day this week. Today, we will discuss all-time point guards and below are the three I have chosen for my roster, what three point guards do you want on your team?

Gilbert Arenas – A three-time All-Star who has been named to the All-NBA 2nd Team once and the All-NBA third team twice… Is one of only two Wizards to score over 2,000 points in three consecutive seasons..Holds the all-time franchise record with 60 points in a game…Has the 2nd highest scoring average in franchise history, the 2nd highest average minutes played in franchise history, the most three-pointers made in franchise history, is 8th all-time in franchise history in assists and 5th all-time in steals.

Earl Monroe – A four-time NBA All-Star, member of the Basketball Hall of Fame and named one of the greatest 50 players in NBA History. This first round pick of the Baltimore Bullets in 1967, was elected to the All-Rookie Team in 1968…Monroe has the 2nd most points scored in a game in franchise history at 56…Is 3rd all-time in scoring average per game at 23.7…

Kevin Porter – One of the great passers in the NBA during his 10 NBA seasons. Twice led the league in assists as a Bullet (1974-75 and 1980-81). From 1972-1983 no player in the entire NBA had more assists than Porter. On an all-time team full of scorers, Porter would be the perfect compliment to come in and run the offense.

Hey guys, been a while. Just checking in from sunny northern califonia. Looks like I’m going to be able to attend the Wizards vs Warriors game this year…Looking very forward to it b/c its on the night of the last day of my final exams. Hope everyone is doing well, I’m very excited to see what our season will be like this year. I’ll probably check in periodically, maybe for a few games(I guess I’ll no longer be one of the regulars)…but schools already killing me…so I’ll just end with Go Wizards.

fyi, just got the chance to talk with caron for a few minutes. I’ll have the whole Q & A up tomorrow. A few highlights, he really likes the depth on this team, he saw Gilbert in Chicago and thought he looked great, he’s been working out extremely hard this off-season and actually quit drinking soda.

I used to love stuttersteppin’ KEVIN PORTER……! He was fun to watch and definetly had that pass first mentality. GILBERT ARENAS, without a doubt, is the best and most gifted allround guard the Wizards (Bullets) ever had. And for good times sake, I’ll pick TOMMY HENDERSON (did I hear somebody laugh) as my third point guard. Don’t forget, HE was running the offense with that heavy-bounce-dribble when we won our one and only championship! And if I’m not mistaken, Tommy made it to the finals three times in his nine years as a pro. He’s my man!

I agree with everyone, and I’m glad someone mentioned Rod Strickland because I always liked him as a player despite his off-court issues. Gil, The Pearl, Porter, and Henderson are/were all awesome obviously.

I also really liked Michael Adams even though his tenure was short here in D.C.

I had a hard time between Rod Strickland for Tom Henderson but I thought Charles Johnson and Larry Wright was just as important to that team.

My big three at point guard are Kevin (KP) Porter, Michael Adams and Gilbert.
I chose Michael over Rod because Rod was a much better player when he was in Portland than with our franchise. I remember him more for his binges in the bars than his assists on the court.
Michael Adams overachieved. You would look at him and wonder how in the world did he make it to the NBA.
Yet he was a fun player to watch fill it up from 3 point land.

Man we’re not that deep at PG are we… Might be as bad a crop of franchise PG’s as any team has on the books…

Head & shoulders Gilbert Arenas & then we’re talking KP in 2nd without even having to blink. The race is for 3rd & it consists of a gang of guys that didn’t spend a ton of time with us… WOW, pretty bad.

Robert Pack had a good year running C Web, Walace, Cheney, etc into the Bulls in the 1st round that season we were “the best young team in the league”…
