Game Day Boston

6:05 AM EDT…So this is it then…Dave Johnson checking in from Boston where it was sunny and warm (warm for Boston) when we arrived yesterday…I take that as a sign of better days ahead…..Fortunately there are more tangible signs…we have been reminded of how much better this team is with Brendan Haywood and Gilbert Arenas in the line-up. In fact maybe we appreciate even more just how much Brendan has developed during his time with us here in Washington. On the subject of appreciation, Darius Songaila is one who just flies under the radar and gets the job done on both ends of the floor. This was not a good season but I will never forget the professionalism of Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler. They didn’t like losing but that didn’t change their demeanor or their approach. And it has been fun to watch some of the young players develop.Dominic McGuire stands out because he has played just about every position on the floor including point guard and on defense was asked to guard a collection of All-Star players. Nick Youngbattled through a mid-season slump and was even more of a contributor on defense. Newcomers JaVale McGee and Javaris Crittenton also showed promise. Enough about the players……now to the BLOGGERS…..THANK YOU …for making each game fun and for sharing your passion for basketball….the goal was to make this a place where fans could share thoughts and opinions and agree and disagree  all the time doing it as friends….And that is what has happened and friends have been made…..We wanted to make everyone feel like they were court side with us as we broadcast the games…when we found out something you guys found out the same thing….it is something we will continue to do and we have lots planned for the off season to stay CONNECTED but for now let’s go out strong tonight.

AND REMEMBER THE GAME IS EIGHT. (I actually forgot)

BLOGCAST—live radio and blogging together—starts tonight at 8:00….on the radio on ESPN 980 AM…94.3 FM in Warrenton and Northern Virginia…92.7 FM in Southern Maryland…1370 AM in Baltimore and great affiliates from Cumberland to Roanoke…..

Please be advised that tonight’s Washington Wizards at Boston Celtics game will now be broadcast live at 8:00 pm on NC8 (formerly CN8).

7:17 PM…First of all we THANK everyone for your kind comments..I wish I really could come up with the words to express how much we have appreciated being with everybody every night ( I know that sounds sappy) but I just think it is cool we have this group that is fun to be with and we probably do need to to do something together in the off-season…I will still be on the BLOG in the off-season..so we will stay CONNECTEDWIZARDS 2008-09 FINAL GAME PREVIEW

To: Dave, Sportswiz, and the blog family I also would like to send out my appreciation to you guys for blogging everyday. This has been a rough season. It’s been rough to see us lose to Cleveland for the third time in the playoffs and watch them become the team with the best record in the NBA, while we fall off to have the worst record in East. Hopefully being eliminated from the playoffs will give our players some much need time to work on there game and rest to recuperate from injuries. I look forward to the off-season please keep us informed as much as possible about the players. If Flip Saunders will become our coach next season I think he is a good choice. I have read that he has never been able to win a championship, and that what makes him a bad choice. Think about it, how many active coaches have won a title as a coach (Phil Jackson, Doc Rivers, Larry Brown, and Gregg Popovich) 4 out of 30 coaches. Hopefully we can get a win tonight and get our 20th win for the season. The last time we had the third worst record, we won the lottery so hopefully history repeats it self. I’m looking forward to May 19th and June 25th. As stated last year I still think it would be a good idea to have a Bloggers part. We can meet at the ESPN zone near the Verizon Center for food and drinks on draft night. http://www.espnzone.com/washingtondc/

Go Wizards!!!

Millie Mill, great post. It has been a rough season indeed. But it’s been great having the blog to air our disappointments and share the good times. I will go to ESPN Zone. Sounds fun.

Why isn’t Gilbert playing? Is he hurt? No one seems to be talking about the fact that he has abandoned his plan of playing every other game. He has played only 2 games. What is up?! I am freaking out (if you couldn’t tell).

…Yeah, despite the rough season, it’s been a pretty cool blogger journey for the most part :) ; I’m sure that our temperaments probably mirrored the players’ temperaments a bit – - but hey, that’s life. S*%! happens – (and that’s just kinda the motto of life); but after the S*%! is cleaned up, life doesn’t stink anymore, and guess what…THINGS GET BETTER!

“As stated last year I still think it would be a good idea to have a Bloggers party.” – - Mill

LOL Mill…I’m LMAO because both me and Wizfan4life tried SO hard to push (for like a decade) for a blogger party. While our persuasive skills are really good ( ;) ), I guess that there’s just other things to be worried about besides a blogger party. Why don’t y’all “area” people just create one for yourselves – that’s not too hard to do; draft time ain’t till months away (just tryna keep the enthusiasm flowing). Sometimes ya just gotta take initiative for yourself…For example; I never really “treat” myself to a lot of things – or – I just haven’t been doing so a lot lately…But then, a miracle happened; a real fly skirt and some to-die-for shoes! Oh my gosh, I was in complete awe! So guess what – I bought both! Ok, when and where I’m gonna wear these things – - I don’t really know, but hey, maybe something will come up someday! LOL…

GO WIZ!!!!!!!!!!!

unfortunatelly we won’t be able to meet you guys if it is a draft party, but I would recommend having some place with wireless access, because we will be all over the draft coverage on the blog.

Last year we had over 900 comments on draft night and it is a really great night for the blog.

Uusally we’ll have ernie grunfeld sound following the pick as well as possible sound of the player drafted. it’s quite a fun night.

NEAL, MILLIE
The Gilbert situation is not what we fans need to focus on right now but what he can provide for the future of this franchise. I have stated that Gilbert Arenas is still the most magnetic and talented player ever in the history of this franchise. Patience is key and then there will definitely be a recover and a new beginning! If Gilbert doesn’t play tonight it’s ok or great and no one should judge him in negative light! Change is coming and with the new thinking /coach there will be victory!
I still am delighted to be a Washington Wizards fan because they changed my way of thinking in 1978 championship and it will change my mindset again because I didn’t think they had a chance then but I do now!

Go Wizards!!!

Sorry fellow bloggers for being somewhat MIA. Been so busy to get on the blog and contribute. Its just great to see how this blog has grown since it started. And yes we should have a blogger party. I was wondering if that ever happened because I remember it was discussed before and I wasn’t sure if I missed it. Win or lose I’m a die hard Wizards fan. i always said I was the number one fan, but seeing the bloggers on this site has shown me there are more die hard fans out there. But i definitely know I’m the number one fan down here in Southern Maryland. lol. Its been great looking forward to next season. You guys stay classy and thanks for everything Dave and Sportswiz.

Mr.Dave Johnson I loved the final game preview, I wish it was longer. This has been a tough, long, injury riddled season. Well if this is the worst it is going to get then I glad we got through it. I’m a stong believer that everything happens for a reason. In my oppinion Flip Saunders and Eddie Jordan were wrongly let go of their coaching jobs. I think we need a new voice and leader to help us with every team’s goal of winning an nba championship. If Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood didn’t get injured we probably would of lost in the first or second round of the playoffs, but they did get hurt. Our young players except maybe pech got playtime that they would never have seen before. Dominic Mcguire relly impressed me with his improvement in a way that he probablywont without the minutes. I think we built a strong bench for next year that will include Mcgees athletism on both ends, Young’s scoring and hopefully maturity over the summer, Etan’s defense, Mike James’ ability to get hot from downtown, a healthy d-steve, a more agressive andray blatche, and d-mac. We will now have a starting five Brendan Haywood’s defensive presence, an iron man in A.jamison who can score 20 every night, the determination and mid range shooting of CB3, agent zero taking the role of a true point guard, and we never know what we will do in the draft. If we stayed healthy and got bounced out the first we would not have the possibilty of landing a top college prospect, or packaging the pick and bringing in another star. Once again I’m a strong believer that everything happens for a reason. I am also a strong believer that next year is the year we will bring a second championship to D.C. Go Wizards!! Let’s finish the season with a win!

Hello to all my fellow bloggers and Dave and Glen and Sportzwiz:

Well it has been a wild ride this year, more bad than good. However the one incredible feeling I have as we head into a new offseason, the Wizards will be in the top 5 in the NBA next year. For some reason I think that it will be the year of the Big 3 :!: . I am pumped for the draft and summer league!

Thank you again my fellow bloggers, Dave, Glenn and Sportwiz, the blogcast is truly a great experience and it continues to get better!

Comment from ChenierFan

Some random thoughts…
1) When the going got tough in the 4th qtr the Wiz could not perform the basics – rebound, get loose balls, run the offense, stop dribble penetration.
2) These last two games may make Saunders re-consider taking the Wiz job. Lord knows he is first on the list for any team in the market for a new coach.
3) It’s quite remarkable how Bill Walker can sky after all those knee operations.
4) Good-bye Juan. You had a fine career. Time to get on to the next phase of your life. You should be proud of your college and pro career.
5) So long Pech… Good luck in the Kiev pro-league. The game over there isn’t as fast or as physical, so your game should match up better there.
6) The Wizards are free for the summer. Please no off-the court headlines – stay safe.
7) The Wiz fans have reason to be optimistic for next year, but not confident.
8) The idea that McGee can easliy put on wt by hitting the weight room is false. He just needs to mature naturally. That will take time. The new coaching should help him out with his defensive positioning – of which Haywood has become a master.
9) This looks like the weakest draft I have ever seen. Outside of Griffin, is there anyone that looks like an impact player?
10) God Bless us Wizards bloggers for our loyalty, passion and dedication to the Wizards. Our long season of suffering is over. So many of these games were painful to watch.
11) Congrats to Gil for extending his consecutive years streak playing in the NBA. He just made it with 2 games this year, about 8 last year. Look out Cal Ripken. Let’s hope his magical game returns next year.

Well… it sure wasn’t our best season, but, thanks to SportzWiz, Dave, Glenn, and all my fellow bloggers it sure was an enjoyable one.

SportzWiz you have outdone yourself with all the additions of audio and video clips. Not to mention your insight into what is going on behind the scenes. Thank you sir…. you have taken this site to a level far beyond previous blogging years. :!:

Dave and Glenn…. I doubt any team in the league has a blog supported as vehimently by it’s broadcasters. You guys not only support us you join in and actually make it very interactive. Nice to know the guys with the microphones are as passionate as we are. Thanks for making us feel like a small part of the “team”. :!:

For all the rest of you silly Wizards fans/bloggers my most humble thanks. You guys have kept me coming back since my first “disagreement” with Tom (how many years ago now?)…. LOL. Since that we have all grown as bloggers and Wizards Fans. Your input I devour like a hungry Bear in the spring. I never knew “numbers” and didn’t care until you guys make me care and actually got me interested in them. Nobody Go Anywhere…. well maybe for a couple weeks… then Come Back To the Blog. If history is any indicator this joint jumps through the summer. High Draft pick? Options to be dealt with? Food for blog.

Neal…. what ESPN Zone? This could be cool.

Thanks Guys.

Comment from Tom Mandel
Time April 16, 2009 at 7:36 AM

The season is over — thank God! — but the blog is *not* over.

Chenierfan says “goodbye Pech”, but Oleksiy has *a guaranteed contract* for next year. He is going nowhere. But, yes, goodbye Juan Dixon — and he will be successful at whatever he does in life.

Yes, this looks like a very weak draft, but really *all* drafts are weak. There’s never more than a few impact players, often only one or two. It’s the chance to get good-not-great players at the lowest possible price that makes them very worth deep attention. We got beat last night by Leon Powe, Glen Davis, Bill Walker and Gabe Pruitt — all guys who were picked in the 2d round — and by a bunch of late first round picks as well.

Comment from Tom Mandel
Time April 16, 2009 at 7:39 AM

Chenierfan — other than Griffin, who looks certain to be a good NBA player? I can’t be sure, of course, but I really like Dejuan Blair. His numbers are almost up there with Griffin’s, and the most reliable prediction of good nba numbers comes from good college numbers. I also *love* Stephen Curry; I think he’ll be an excellent player in the league.

Who else does anyone like in this year’s draft class?

Comment from millie mill
Time April 16, 2009 at 7:59 AM

That was a real tough season. Hell that was a tough lost last night. It seems like we have been getting kicked all season. I was hoping something good could come out of a lost to Boston with no starters like, a win by the Clippers. I was hoping they would win so we can have more ping-pong ball than them, but those fools lost to the Thunder at home 126-85. They suck!!
Next season will be much better than this past season. I think for once next year we will be able to start the season with everyone at 100% healthy, a new coach, and top 6 pick in the draft.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at ESPN zone on Draft night. If we don’t get the first pick it will be real interesting to see who we get and what we do with the second round pick because we only have room for one more person . The ESPN zone does have free wireless internet access. So if you want to bring a laptop, so you can blog while you are there. So far I see that gbkdc, Bridge, jeffmalone1990, aznzero, and neal, are interested. No money will be collected. You buy your own food and drinks. This is not sponsored by the Washington Wizards. Hopefully we can get more and have a real good turn out.

Comment from millie mill
Time April 16, 2009 at 8:11 AM

I like Dejuan Blair everyone is saying he will be like Robert Traylor but I think he is like Charles Barkley. I don’t know much about Ricky Rubio but heard that he is a good player. Outside of the first pick, teams will be picking the best player at the position they need.
