Tuesday Morning

Hey everyone SportzWiz checking in….Tough one last night for the Wizards. A couple critical mistakes late cost the team. While the Wizards fell it was really nice to see a couple of the bloggers in the house, so a big shout out to Jeffmalone and dcbutler, great seeing you guys last night.

No practice for the team today, they will head out to Boston to wrap up the season later today.

So, seems like it is pretty certain that Flip S. is becoming the new wiz coach. Sounds great for me…let’s see how this works out. Man I’m excited for the next season!

“Saunders will inherit a talent-rich lineup that includes Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, Arenas, Haywood and a probable high pick in this year’s draft.”
    (nba news)

… and mcguire, blatche, songaila! And a “grown up” NickY after the summer, and a Javale Mcgee who gained 20pounds of muscles[...]….man we sound great on the paper ;)
    LET’S GO WIZARDS!

Oh man, and let’s beat Boston! We can really take it. Just play them like last season..sweep anyone?

greetz from (the finally sunny and warm) germany!

Yes, I haven’t been this enthusiastic about the Wiz since this time last year. As a matter of fact, every year about this time I’m thinking “Just wait till next year.”

Looks to me like we’ll have competition for minutes at every position:

At the 1: James & Crittenton
At the 2: Stevenson, McGuire & Young
At the 3: McGuire & Blatche
At the 4: Songaila & Blatche
At the 5: Thomas & McGee

And the new draftee will be in the mix at whatever position(s) he plays. Should make for an interesting camp and preseason.

We do look pretty good on paper. There is definitely some deepness. I think we’re all looking forward to next year. I’m not expecting miracles, but I think we can make it back into the playoffs for sure.

Not cool that EG is interviewing potential coaches before the end of the season. It was bound to get out and it’s a distraction to the team and a slap in the face to Tapscott.

Ernie and Tap are long-time trusted partners; there is absolutely no issue about Tap. I am sure he’ll go right back to the job he had before.

As to “bound to get out”, I’m sure this was leaked intentionally!

Like the return of Gil for a few games, this is marketing, neal — getting people to focus past the end of a very lousy season and think about the future.

Why did Gil stop playing? I guess he just didn’t feel like it. That’s a sad state of affairs. I trust our new coach will have the b____ to tell Gil to play if he’s able.

I left the verizon ctr last so sad…. We came back from 12 pts down – pulled ahead THEN on lost it all…. Overall (after the 1st quareter) I think we played with heart & purpose…

Dixon’s turnover (or was it a touchdoen pass – not quite sure what it was just yet…) – after the shock wore off THIS MORNING, yes, he really messed up. But we did not lose the game b/c of him… lots of “little” things brought us to that point…

I too like the gold jerseys – I have three (#0, #3, & #33) that I will continue to wear!

Regarding the new coaching staff – we are ready — have been ready for this change for quite some time now. There is no place to go but up!

they can keep changing coaches all the time, but if they dont find a way to bring some life in the arena during the games, this team is always going to have to fire their coach. Dont get me wrong, I think Flip S is a good coach but they have to do something with this fella who work as a DJ during the game. Give him the energy bar or something.

I had a fantastic time at the game, and I cannot thank you guys enough! My son and I had so much fun, as much fun as you can have with a loss to the Raptors. Meeting you guys really made quite the experience and one that my son and I will always remember, Dave and Glenn thank you again I had a ball with you guys prior to the game, and SportzWiz during and of course meeting dcbutler to pick up a jersey :!: . Without question the live blog cast and the Wizards family and organization are first class, and hopefully in next year I will see more of you at the home games!

    :!: :!: :!: THANK YOU!!!

GREAT JOB WIZKIDS YOU DID YOUR BEST . HOWEVER ALL GREAT TEAMS HAVE MADE DRAMATIC CHANGES TO THERE LINE UP TO BECOME CHAMPIONS. EXAMPLE OUR RIVALS BOSTON CELTICS WERE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE LEAGUE JUST 3 YEARS AGO BUT NOT ANYMORE.
I WILL HAVE A HIT LIST OF ATLEAST 4 PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS WHO REALLY DONOT FIT OUR WINNING CONCEPT RIGHT NOW! THAT WILL COME OUT AFTER THE LAST GAME. I LOVE THAT YOU PLAYED FOR THIS CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB BUT WE WISH YOU THE BEST IN THE FUTURE! I WOULD LIKE TO COIN THE PHRASE IT’S ONLY WIZARDOLOGY WHEN WE CAN’T HOLD A LEAD IN THE FOURTH QUARTER AND REALLY DON’T HAVE A CLUE HOW TO STOP THE OTHER TEAM!

Tom, that’s some cynical thinking though I agree with you. If I was running the show I’d be doing the same thing.

Jeff, that’s a great story, but we already knew these folks were first class. :)

I’m impressed that our lady fans seem very knowledgeable. Any other women on this blog along with Bridge and 2stepsaway?

Da_big_taba, I’d be scared to trade Butler and our pick for a name player. To me, the risks are too great. Name players too often don’t do as well in a new situation after they’ve made their name somewhere. It’s like it’s anticlimactic for them. Maybe I’ve still got so many trades by Bullets regimes in the past still in the back of my mind.

Aundra, you’re talking about 4 current Wizards? I’ll be looking forward to your opinions.

    Minutes:

I sure hope that James and Stevenson get next to no minutes. I like starting Dominic and Caron at the 2/3 spots and letting Nick try to back up both those wing positions.

I can’t see Etan getting many minutes either. Especially if JaVale can play the way he did last night.

Crittenton backs up Gil at the point, obviously.

There’s fun coming at the 4, however, if we are lucky enough to land Griffin.

Aundra — like neal, I look forward to seeing your list. The problem is that getting rid of players in the NBA is very very difficult.

After tonight’s game, I’m going to do a statistical wrap on our key players, so that we know how they did overall. I’ll use the Win Score methodology, and I’ll be comparing our players to the NBA average at their positions.

I’ll do this as an Excel file and put it online where anyone interested can download it. For those of you who don’t use Excel, I’ll try to figure out an alternative.
