Hey everyone…SportzWiz checking in… Just wanted to give a few links to check out.
For those that missed it, below are highlights from Friday night including Caron’s game-winner.
As some of you may have heard, the Wizards will be retiring the gold jerseys tomorrow night against the Raptors. Click here for more details and some special ticket offers for the final home game of the season.
Wizard Girl Courtney also checked in with a blog post. A real nice read on some of the community events the wizard girls have participated in this year.

Noooo don’t retire the golden jerseys. They are the (main)reason I became a Wizards fan ![]()
But well, maybe the alternate jerseys next year (our championship year if I may add ;>) will be even better…
And boy do I hope we get the 20win-mark!
cheers

You mean the Zephyrs jerseys? or the black and gold alternates?
If I had to pick I’d keep the Zephyrs jerseys.

black and gold are gone because ever since we got them it’s been heartbreak and injuries except gil’s 60vs lal and 54vs phoenix

Are they going to change the verizon center court again now that we are getting rid of them?We actually did pretty good with the gold going 21-17.

I liked the black and gold. I wish they would get rid of the teal ones. They must have a “new” uniform to debut next season. I hope they keep the Zephyr uniform. It’s plain but I think it looks pretty good.
Very Interesting AJ. I hadn’t heard about the Flip Saunders thing. Actually I hadn’t heard “anything”. Your one typed sentence gives me hope for next year. I figured since we hadn’t heard anything it might again be Tapscott. Thanks Aj

CSN’s website says Chris Miller’s sources tell him the hiring of Flip Saunders is a done deal just that the contract has not been signed yet.

The contract probably can’t be signed until the season ends as 2 head coaches on the sideline would get a little crowded.

They interviewed Tap and he was really sad that he will only be coaching for two more games. I hope he wasn’t suprised unless he is in denial. Caron was also interviewed but he didn’t show much emotion. I guess he did not want to hurt Ed’s feelings.

flip is a O# coach not so much for his D# in fact that was his problem from what i can tell and he has also had problems winning games in the playoffs (prob the lack of good D# because in the playoffs D# is a must to win) thats not a good thing because thats the 2 places we need the coach most… how ever a good D# coach along with a good Big man coach to tug his coat tails would be nice..

I think Detroit played pretty good defense under Saunders. Flip has been to the NBA finals he has just never won the big dance.

If we do get Flip Saunders I think this will be the biggest coaching “name” the Wizards have had since Gene Shue. Hopefully now the days of Leonard Hamilton, Gar Heard, and Ed Tapscott are behind us.
Go WIZARDS

I am pleased with the selection of Flip Saunders as the new coach. He is a proven winner in this league and should do a better job of utilizing the “bigs”. I hope Ernie allows him to select his own staff. The only coach I would keep is the shooting coach. I would also hire an entire new medical staff and change the karma on that front.
With a proven coach at the helm there is more reason for optimism for next year.

At the very least Flip can get us back into the playoffs. Which coming off this season will seem like heaven.

Thanks JeffM and Grif.
CSN just announced again that the deal is imminent. I’m glad we finally got a coach. I do recall Flip had a “tiff” with Ben Wallace prior to the Ben leaving because Ben felt he wasn’t being utilized properly. Also, detroit was already a winner with Larry Brown (i think he was the previous coach), so he really didn’t “build” anything….but I’m still upbeat

Filp had already got the assistant coach Sam Cassell whats your guys thoughts on that?
Comment from GrifonRacing
Time April 12, 2009 at 10:25 PM
Interesting. Saunders isn’t an in your face kind of coach. Maybe he felt he needed someone like Cassell to play that role to a degree.
DCB… Rick Carlisle and Joe Dumars really put together the team almost as it sits today. Carlisle is the one they can really thank for their success. The first of the Big Ben confrontations was with Carlisle. Brown then came in almost along with Rasheed Wallace. Wallace completed the puzzle for them. Brown rode Carlisle’s coat tails. Brown had health issues…New York Knick related….. and left. Flip came in and they had their winningest season ever but Miami was the “team” by then. After Detroit lost Ben to Chicago they became a good team…… If Flip had been hired in Detroit before Brown he would probaly still be there working on Jerry Sloan’s record.

Grif,
I’ll just let the past stay in the past and hopefully he has figured out how to get to the next level and our players have learned how to play at the next level and then we can see something special next season.

A healthy Gil.. A healthy Brendan… A healthy Deshawn.. Dominic being Dominic… Nick playing defense… Possibly a Coach to direct JaVale’s positive game… and develop an offense that highlights Andray’s play and sets an offense where the other players shine…. Cassell is there for the “tough nose” factor. Hopefully that shines on the defensive end next season. Things are looking up. Get the wallet out Mr. Pollin. Blake Griffin anyone?

Saunders has been a successful coach in the league. He’ll install a totally different offense of course, and then we’ll get to see how good we are.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Abe *insists* that we keep Wes Unseld, Jr. I can’t see any of the other assistants staying around, except maybe Hopla (as we all hope).
Presumably, Saunders and Ernie will review the roster, and we may actually see some moves or at least some attempted moves.
And it would be *great* for Eddie Jordan to wind up in Sacramento. He is a terrific coach and a good guy.
