Wednesday Morning

Sportzwiz checking in…Well folks I was planning to wake up today and put up a poll about your favorite blogger bump :!: from yesterday (for those that have been off the blog the last few days or are new to the blog please check the previous two or three topics in the comments field for an explanation) but it seems that is pretty unnecessary considering every nominee seems to be the same play. In case you missed last night’s game, here is how the play went according to Javaris Crittenton.

“The defender went right so I went behind my back,” said Crittenton on the play. “I kind of lost my balance so I did a full spin around and when I got the ball I saw JaVale running down the floor. He is a very athletic player so I just threw it up towards the rim and he got it.”

It was not the only big play made all day by Crittenton who scored six points late and dealt out a big assist to Mike James that helped the Wizards pull out the come from behind win. As we have been saying for the past several weeks, it looks like the Wizards have a keeper in Crit and his confidence and play has really improved over the past few weeks.

Moving on to today, the Wizards will get back to the practice court where they will prepare for Friday’s game against New Jersey. (quick side note: For those fans looking at attending Saturday’s game against San Antonio that is an 8:00 start) I will be heading down to practice and as usual I will post whatever some audio from practice and any other tidbits I find.

The Timberwolves are not among the elite NBA teams, but they have a better record than the Wiz and a win is a win.

I thought that the Wiz played a very solid game with some short lapses where we couldn’t do anything right.

The box score says it all for AJ. He is an offensive super star. CB shot well; had 6 assists, and limited his turnovers to 1 while he had 3 steals. Nice game.

Blatche seemed to play with great energy and interest. He shot 5/10 from the floor; 4/6 from the line; 7 boards (3 offensive); 2 assists and 2 steals. I thought that he played under control and was a stabilizing factor on the boards. Obviously, his game is best when he is going from the 4 spot. To his credit, Tap played him there most of the night. AB’s defense is improving. He tipped several rebounds to other players and kept the ball alive on the offensive boards. He still needs to play with a little more anger and a bit of violence. Regardless, Welcome back!

Darius played a nice game and shot 5/7 from the field. He is a real pro who understands how to play the game. He just does the right things at the right time. It’s a shame that he is forced to play the 5 spot.

Critt and McGee provided excitement (that spinning dribble and alley-oop got my vote, also, for play of the game). Mike had a difficult time staying with the quick T’Wolf guards but he scored when it mattered. Slick just couldn’t get it going at all last night.

Dominic got some numbers last night. He had 8 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists. As much as I like his energy, attitude, and and quickness, I still maintain that Dominic is not an NBA starter caliber player, but should be used off the bench to stop a hot scorer.

I’ll even say that Tap did a good job with rotations last night. I’d add a “!” for Cardinal for that time when he finally forced Tap to sit down by knocking him over. Just kidding Tap, glad you were not hurt.

gabbo,

you mentioned a couple things that tap has talked about with dray and darius. Both are not exactly made to be 5′s but thats right now what they are forced to play. JaVale will be a 5 in this league one day but his lack of bulk hurts him at times (he also needs to learn to play with leverage, but again he’s real young).

I think that Dom can start in this league and play a bruce bowen type role. If he can hit that mid-range baseline shot consistently he will be fine. With a healthy big 3 you dont need someone that needs the ball in their hands as a starter, and he can provide that defensive role along with a standstill jumper that will keep the defense honest.

I sure hope JCritt is for real. He IS getting better and better…but how good he’ll get is anybody’s guess.

Thank you dcbutler357 and millie mill, millie I saw the top plays but man they missed the block of the year, I don’t know if anybody caught the Lakers vs Bobcars, but in the 4th qtr Shannon Brown of the Lakers took one of the glass, I could not find the video but WOW, it was one of the most athletic blocks I have ever seen, the entire bench jumped up and they showed it on the jumptron 4 times

I will post this one more time, the NBA Top 10 isnt worth the clicks it takes to get to the page.

Dray’s dunk over Rasheed was not in the top 10, everytime we have a great play i check out the NBA Top 10 and after being burned about 5 times i stopped looking :)

I’m with you jeffmalone1990 I miss him also. If he gets a coaching job next year I think he is going to hurt us coaching wise more than the team, only because he will know everyone on the roster and their capabilities.

Sprotzwiz, I all ways wonder how they rank those plays. A play like the Wizards made last night gets ranked 8th and a block made number 7. Come on man. That play should have atleast made the top three. ?

if you put the picture of the plays on a wall and threw darts at them blindfolded you could do a better job :)

I saw the interview with EJ and it appeared that he was dissatisfied with his roster and wanted to demonstrate to Ernie Grunfeld that he had an inadequate assortment of players. He tried to get fired in my opinion since he saw the situation as untenable. Playing Etan for Brendan and hoping for the best was his first programmed bad move. He lost R Mason and had no guard who shoot three pointers. (De Shawn clearly had lost his touch in preseason). Playing D Brown and DEshawn clearly was not the answer. The Wizards had the worst defense against the three in the league and EJ made no noticable adjustments. Hoping they will miss open shots appears to have been the strategy,(true under Tap as well).

His only hope would have been to play Nick more as well as Blatche and McGee, but he showed no creativity in the lineup. Like say EJ wanted to have EG get him better players or he wanted out of here.
