Game Day Bucks
6;31 AM….Dave Johnson….ready for a new day…. and that’s the only way to look at it…It’s the stat that drives us nuts…Saturday’s loss to the Bobcats was the 14th time this season that Wizards have not been able to hold a fourth quarter lead…..and I know it is unproductive but I can’t help but dream about how things would have been had we won just half of those games…in fact our game at the start of the season in Milwaukee was an example of our fourthquarter problems…I know I just slipped….I said today is a new day.. and I started thinking about the past…In the loss to the Bobcats I thought the offense started well…attacking the basket withbetter ball movement— and the Wizards played with the lead instead of chasing the game…but need to play the whole game…Antawn Jamison hopes to play tonight but is hobbled by a strained right knee—update you as we have it—-BLOGCAST(radio and blogging together) starts tonight at 7 PM with Ed Tapscott’s pre game talk…..on the dial ESPN 980 AM in Washington…94.3 FM in Warrenton and Northern Virginia….92.7 FM in Southern Maryland….1370 AM in Baltimore and GREAT affiliates from Cumberland to Roanoke…..and there will be a LISTEN LIVE link.
6:07 PM…Dave Johnson checking in ,,,radio broadcast starts with Ed Tapscott interview…some nuggets from that interview include….JaVale McGee is going to get a shot every game in the second quarter and then take from there….Juan Dixon is Tapscott’s emergency guy because of what Crittenton can do defensively…I am paraphrasing from the interview which I already taped…listen if you can so you can hear it straight from him… Antawn Jamison will play
6:58 PM starters are in….Luke Ridnour Michael Redd Richard Jefferson Luc Mbah a Moute Andrew Bogut…..Mike James Caron Butler Dominic McGuire Antawn Jamison and Andray Blatche

dj; at least you are home and it looks like you’ve slept most of the night through!! Hopefully no bad dreams or restless sleeping! LOL
I still think we have a playoff team!! Yup, until Tom or another statistian says there is absolutely no way to be in the top 8 teams I’m staying with “my guys”!! Sorry to hear about Tawn’s knee…though I thought against Charlotte it was his back! Maybe that warriors got several injuries!! Young getting the start!! dream on!! per Taps comments from the past couple days, NY is our 6th man! At least NY has a role defined! Songalia has been in some so I’d say if Tawn is down Darius is it. I’m just laughing cause probably Young will start. Man what double talk we get!!
I love the background water BigA!! Looks refreshing and positive and serene!! All things we need to look at a bright, different positive day!! Go Wiz!!

aznzero: things you’ve missed
Andray comin’ on strong
Dom starting to look for his shot
NY career game; I think 28
Critt in the lineup with significant minutes
Andray and Blatche in the lineup; AT THE SAME TIME
What else did I miss guys and gals!?!? Positive, I’m pretty sure aznzero will catch up on the negative real fast

Quotes and Stats:
Jamison and Butler — all-stars last season — have been carrying heavy minutes as well as the bulk of the playmaking and scoring load in the absence of Gilbert Arenas. Jamison has yet to miss a game; Butler missed three with an ankle injury.
Jamison is averaging a team-high 38.4 minutes; Butler (38.2) isn’t far behind.
“We’ve played a ton of games and I don’t want to wear them out,” interim coach Ed Tapscott said. “They’re such willing warriors for me. You look at where we are and we have a lot of games and a lot of travel so I’ve tried to give the young guys a little more run.”
I really hope tonight starts the process of getting those minutes down it has been discussed here at nausea, lol. I know Coach expressed he did not want to wear them both down however it already looked like it has taken place. Here’s to a balance in the rotation and balance in the minutes with the rotations as well, and of course the young guys get some run. I still do not quite understand how he may think that playing the young guys may appear that we are maining in the season, I think it will provide a shot in the arm and some wins with guys that are hungry and eager to prove themselves, IMHO.

I would say you might have better odds predicting the lottery than predicting Gilbert Arenas
.
I don’t think anything has been decided and lots of people try to jump on one comment and fly with it (i.e. the times comment or the post comment).
In the past week Arenas made the comment to Mike Jones of the Times and the next day Ivan Carter reported this
Speaking of injuries, I just bumped into the elusive Mr. Arenas in the hallway after practice and hit with: “Hey man, you’re going to play this season you and I both know it.”
Arenas: “Yeah.”
It is why for the most part we will start talking about Gilbert more in depth when he starts practicing regularly.

i just want gil to return. with him healthy the fans fill up the v.c. every night and we are a playoff team. and to Jgarcia the bucks just won a close game against new jersey by a game winner. Lastly if antawn does not start we should start Mcgee so we will have a big, but athletic lineup.

gilbert should not come back until the knee is 100% healed. there is always a risk of injury in the nba, but it makes no sense to rush back for the rest of this season.

It gets kind of tiresome to look on these losses and examine what causes them, doesn’t it?
Any particular reason we needed to give the Bucks 56 points in the 2d half?
Mike James and Caron combined to shoot 4-25. End of story. We dominated every other statistic except assists, but we still managed to find a way lose the game.
Comment from jeffmalone1990

Tom these stats too me are telling:
19 out of 37 game Wiz fail to score 20 pts in the 4th, and are ranked 28th in scoring in the 1st at 22.3, those 2 qtr’s hurt us tonight
Also outside of 1 game, I have not seen anything from James, heck at this point start Javaris and have Juan backing him up and give James the nest 2 or 3 games of DNP’s.
I ***cringed*** when I heard we were a team that **grinds** it out, we are not that team at all!!! A team that grinds it out, is a team that plays defense for 48 minutes and they must because of there lack of scoring, we have scorers however the pace that we are playing is not utilitizg what they do best, and you are right why examine it right?
Comment from Tom Mandel
Time January 12, 2009 at 10:17 PM
Dominic had an excellent game, and Crittenton looked good too.
Nick shot the ball extremely well. The stats show 12-19, but the last 2 were desperation shots and we don’t need to count them. Unfortunately, in 32 minutes, Nick had zero rebounds and 3 turnovers. He also had a lot of trouble checking Michael Redd.
Obviously, I wish JaVale had gotten ten more minutes.
Comment from GrifonRacing
Time January 12, 2009 at 10:21 PM
I wasn’t able to see the game tonight but it looks like we let another one slip away. RATS.
Nick didn’t have much of an overall line BUT what shooting! I’m glad to see him finally getting comfortable with his shooting touch. Now that he is comfortable there maybe the other parts of his game will develop. Looks like Andray, Critt, and Antawn had solid games (although with 3 rebounds it doesnt take much to figure the knee is bothering him). I understand Caron is an all star and he is a great player, but, when he is stinking up the place (and it happens to everybody) why is he getting 38 minutes? Why is Juan Tap’s “emergency player”? Juan should be backing up Crittenton with James as Tap’s “emergency” player. Critt appears to have potential and Juan has played better in limited minutes than James has. It appears JaVale had a bit of an off night. Gees I wonder why? Maybe not playing for 27 games in a row has an effect? Give that kid minutes consistently. I know Tap said he was going to…. let’s make sure that happens.
Lets beat the NY Knicks! Like the Yankees I hate a store bought team lol.

Grif-we just have the same vision, lol. I watched this game and the last one very hard to watch the team this year. I know Tap loves to play the “vets” heck at this piunt I would think that Juan is in his rookie season with his minutes, much like Etan and McGee,lol

speaking of which I hope Etan is ok. That one looked too much like the “Gil Thang”

My beloved Wizards who will step up and be a stabalizing leader on the court and the sidelines for this year, man it’s like the wheels have come off

I’m not 100% sure this season the wheels were ever securely on. We have proven we can play without Gil (good thing apparently). Without Haywood and Thomas being out all last year the only veteran we have is poor old undersized Darius. He does a wonderful job, but, he is overachieving.

Why is it that every team we play shoot the ball so good at critical times of these games?

Tyrone we just don’t have a defensive minded team. Never really have. I don’t know what it’s going to take to make the Wizards as a team realize they need to play some organized defense. Plus we have a lot of young guys that have never really gotten any minutes before.

Grif-great point!!! and tyrone, we play a scrambling defense on the perimeter and we always have somebody trailing on the play, most teams get great looks against us with ball movement.

to a point Juan = defense (comparitively speaking). Probably why Jeff and I want to see more of him. Especially when trying to get a critical stop

That’s another thing. Stop running that lazy Princeton Weave if you don’t Mean IT. The way it’s being run… forget it.. it isn’t generating a thing. If they are going to run that offense lets run it with a little heart. AND don’t just start with that offense you must Finish with that offense

There is a major difference when McGee and Blatche are on the court together, expecially when JCritt is with them….Every shot in the lane is contested and offensive rebounds for the opposition are minimal and the middle is attacked.
I don’t even pay attention to Tap when he talks, if the answers were a snake, he would be bit by now (the answers are right in his face) his days are numbered. I’m not even worried about the young getting playing time anymore. They have proven that they can do this.
Just biding my time and enjoying the game when the youth get playing time. You can feel the attitude, energy and freshness when they are all in together.

WOW once again same old same old. Does anyone think we are going to try and make a trade before the deadline? I have a feeling with the way this year is going a trade will not happen! I love Butler and Jamison and feel bad for those guys, having to deal with this lame coaching staff I know they must be down on the situation. McGee, Blatche and Young are great, man with these 3 guys and the big 3 man!!!! I’ll open my eyes on that wish!

There is probably some first-year biddy basketball coach in Outer Mongolia who knows less about coaching basketball than coach Tap…Just kidding, actually, I really doubt that anyone could possibly know less about coaching basketball than coach Tap.
Not only does Tap take away any momentum that the Wiz might build with his rediculous rotations, but then he has the nerve to say that a primary reason that we lost to the Bucks was because we didn’t rebound the ball in the 4th quarter. Who was the coach who had Darius playing center as the tallest Wiz on the court in the 4th quarter while the Bucks had Bogut and a few other players taller than any Wiz on the court killing us off the boards.
Unless there has been a major rule change in the NBA, McGee, Blatche and McGuire are not allowed to rebound from the bench…however, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tap doesn’t know that…Tap ask Jr. he can fill you in on the rules.
How can you be a NBA coach and not have some offensive scheme that allows you to get the ball to a “hot” shooter (think Slick) in a position where he doesn’t have to beat the other team’s five players in order to get a decent shot. I said yesterday that folks should watch how the Bucks get Michael Redd free. Imaging my lack of suprise when they did it again tonight to beat us. Is there any blogger who sincerely believes that Tap may have learned anything about getting a shooter free from tonight’s game?
Our entire coaching staff (save Dave H. and perhaps Randy A.) STINKS! A good coach wins close games by superior coaching. Our coach has lost 14 games when he was ahead or tied in the 4th quarter. Good grief, even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometime.
I think that it is VERY telling that Tap says things like: the players didn’t produce for ME; the players didn’t provide energy for ME; the players didn’t react like I wanted them to for ME …ME,ME,ME. This is a team game Tap, stuff the ME.
It’s easy to see that the players have no respect for this pretender of a coach. EJ used bad judgement, but at least he understood the game. Tap has no idea at all about what is going on. Tonight during timeouts he huddled with his coaches and was actually taking notes about what they were telling him. That’s what an attorney might do, not a NBA basketball coach.
I don’t normally say anything negative about DJ or GC, but Glenn’s comment on the call-in show tonight that the technical foul called on AB when we were ahead by 12 was a critical point in the game was riduculous. The refs blew 3 ticky-tac fouls on AB in about 30 seconds. The last one was crazy. AB protested and was “T’d” up. Big deal about the “T”. The really big deal was that Tap took him out of the game and he stayed on the bench until the Bucks closed the gap.
Enough for tonight…let’s just get rid of the LOTTERY COACH and the LOTTERY OFFENSE and get a big boy offense that will allow these players to produce some wins and get the fans involved again.

Ummm not to sure about that… But more then anything I have said it and everone else on the blog has said it coaching, coaching, coaching. Man it’s bad!

Look everybody I think we’re focusing on the pieces and not the whole…Wise teacher once said to my mother: “The situation is this, we had an experienced teacher, best in the world teaching your son, and he performed poorly. Then we brought in a substitute teacher, and he still did not progress…What I’m trying to tell you ma’am is that it’s not the teacher, it’s your boy.” Moral of the story is, we simply are not performing REGARDLESS of who coaches the Wiz Kidz, we’re still losing…

It’s frustrating watching this coaching staff lose game after game for us. I have no idea what he is looking at from the bench. Let’s see, you are getting killed on the boards. Let’s go small. I’m getting sick to my stomach watching this fake coach. Talks a good game but know nothing about basketball. Any house league coach would have left Blatche and McGee in the game together until one or both foul out. I can’t take it.

The team is really hurting from the 3 point line. Mike James and Stevenson should not be shooting 3 point shots unless they are wide open. Yes, occasionally they will have a good day from the 3 point line but most of the time they hurt the team.
I am still a big Juan Dixon fan and think he should be getting more minutes at shooting guard. He is one of the best shooters on the team and has consistently scored when given that assignment. He has a good average from the 3 point line.
I think Pecherov should be getting some minutes from the shooting guard position. He has a good average from the 3 point line. At 7 ft, he can get his shot anytime he wants.
And Darius should be given the green light on shooting. He plays a great team game, moves the ball around, sets picks, but he is an excellent shooter and should be higher on the list during some of the rotations.
Thanks for the stats on Crittenton’s A/TO ratio. I guess I’ve only seen his 6 turnovers and not his assists.
