Game Day Bobcats

4:30 AM….Dave Johnsonjust getting home from Chicago we landed about an hour ago…it took awhile to get out of Chicago because of  snow….had to deice the plane etc…..the Wizards lost but the night ended with Chicago fans booing because the Bulls only reached 98 points and at 100 they get free Big Macs….I am sure many Wizards fans felt like booing as they listened and watched  last night’s game…it was a bad first half….but the Wizards  turned it around in the second half… in the second half the Wizards out rebounded the Bulls 23-19 and then were sparked on offense by Nick Young….in some ways amazing the Wizards were “flirting” with making a complete come back on a night when Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler combined to go 5 of 20 from the field….enough about last night….time for me to go to bed and we will hope for the home winning streak to continue…..BLOGCAST…that is radio and blogging together starts at 7…..on the radio we have affiliates from Cumberland to Roanoke and between the Beltways on ESPN 980 AM in Washington….94.3 FM in Warrenton and Northern Virginia….92.7 FM in Southern Maryland,..1370 AM in Baltimore… and there will be a listen LIVE link…..

6:25 PM…Dave Johnson checking in..starters are in…Mike James,Caron Butler, Andray Blatche3, Antawn Jamison, Dominic McGuire,  Bobcats Raymond Felton, Raja Bell, Emeka Okafor, Gerald Wallace, Boris Diaw.

Good morning! Let’s start the new day with an interesting quote: “When you’re struggling sometimes you just reach for a straw,” Tapscott said. “That was actually Randy Ayers. He said: why not give Pech a shot, maybe he can make a shot and I said okay.” Now, does that sound like a solid coaching decision? And JaVale McGee actually did get another DNP!! This is really getting rediculous! Please Randy, next time you suggest players, try to mention JaVale’s name as well! I’m sorry I’m sounding so negative, and certainly our pityful record isn’t all Tapscott’s fault, but I DO feel we need a real coach soon! Go Wizards!!!!!

How can we get Tap out of here. We need a coach that know his players capabilities and look at film. He should have never gotten the job.

Comment from Tom Mandel
Time January 10, 2009 at 8:42 AM

Here is something to remember: Ed Tapscott was hired by Ernie Grunfield.

Moreover, one player acquired by Ernie Grunfield is injured — Gilbert Arenas — and so is one other player, Brendan, whom Michael Jordan acquired.

The rest of this team that is playing so badly was built by Ernie Grunfield. These are the guys that he thought well enough to draft or trade for.

The buck doesn’t stop at Tap’s door; it stops at Ernie’s door.

Eddie Jordan was fired for the team’s failures. But the team has continued to fail. Draw your own conclusion.

Time January 10, 2009 at 9:01 AM

Tom, we were pretty good with most of these players last year. Nobody was criticizing Ernie then, as far as I can remember. Nah, I think it’s all about using the guys we have in the right way, and that IS a coaching matter. I still have that feeling that most of the pieces are there. But we need the right guy that puts them all together.

Couldn’t agree more with all of you. I just don’t know what to say anymore. I had to stop watching last night, and I am thinking of finding a new hobby. Reading economic theory is almost more interesting than these games. And it really pains me to say that because I LOVE Caron, Antawn, and the others. I really do… and I want them to be successful. But it is just painful to watch. Maybe I should work on my Italian.

Yeah… I turned it off last night around the half, but then I just read that Pech and Young had some great performances, and Tap got ejected!! Too bad I missed that. Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll keep watching. But I do wonder what happened to Caron? I think Antawn is just tired.

Comment from Jaba
Time January 10, 2009 at 9:44 AM

Can’t blame Antawn if he IS tired! And I wouldn’t be surprised if Caron’s playing hurt. Maybe it’s still the ankle, who knows. I guess he feels the team needs him to play. (and they actually do!)

Comment from neal
Time January 10, 2009 at 9:54 AM

I think a lot of our problem is attitude and enthusiasm, and that’s the biggest responsibility the coaches have.

I also think we would be a much better team with Haywood and Arenas. Then playing better would engender more confidence, which would lead to playing even better.

I don’t have a problem with Grunfeld’s player selection. Overall, seems to me he’s done well. I do have a problem with the Arenas and Jamison contracts, but I’m sure they were tough decisions. He essentially had to decide whether we could be very good soon or start rebuilding. It would have taken a lot of courage to let them go. In retrospect, it would probably have been the right thing to do but that was hard to see then.

gbkdc, maybe we should learn to appreciate hockey.

Good Morning Everyone,

I was going to watch the taped version of the game, but the blog gave me a good picture of what happened. I would have liked to see the positives, and Tap’s ejection. See everyone tonight?!

Comment from lenman
Time January 10, 2009 at 10:41 AM

I just read Tapscott’s comments in the Post about McGee taking bad shots and playing intelligently. On a squad that plays one on one and takes bad shots routinely; and a team with no structured offense that is such a cowardly move. To call out a 20 year old rookie who ain’t played in 4 games when your team quit last night is ridiculous.

Be a man and call out your veterans but to do that with your first round draft pick because of questioning from reporters or bloggers is indicative of this cats incompetence. 7 GAME SEGMENTS AND MERITOCRACY. give me a break.

Grunfeld has made some good finds in the draft but the structuring of his team and long term contract signings reflect incompetence as well. The additon of Mike James was highly qestionable and Javaris is a decent athelete but has more D-League skills at this point. The fact that we don’t have a quality point guard NOW knowing Arenas was hurt is on Grunfeld. HIS OVERSIGHT OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT SUCKS.

You guys are right, Butler and Jamison are tired (as they should be) and this team has no enthusiasm and are not playing like they enjoy basketball. Even though they may piece together a win or two over the next 6 games due to a favorable schedule. THIS TEAM IS LOST.

IF THIS IS A MERITOCRACY,TAPSCOTT MUST GO!

Love the links about meritocracy and to the wizards’ insider! I went to the online encyclopedia about meritocracy it was fairly interesting as merit is given to those established and experienced first. Geez!! Several of you have blogged that the vets are failing and making mistakes, too; so staff stop picking on JaVale. Well, I personally think he’s seen enough “pine”!! If your gonna say 7 game stretch is over who heard tell of taking it on to 8!! Will it be 9 tonight!! Let’s see some real minutes for JaVale and Juan!

Okay, so if we were playing for the championship (which can go seven games) and we lost the first two/three, do you mean to tell me that you wouldn’t change/tinker your plans…LOL…I rest my case…..

SLWIZ,

It’s not about the fans right now, or the team.

Just like we are the first ones with the blog, we are going to be the first one on reality tv.

This season will be on VH1 as some sort of reality show….that’s gotta be what’s going on!!! That’s the only way to explain all of these unrealistic actions….LOL…

Comment from dcbutler357
Time January 10, 2009 at 11:02 AM

If Caron or Jamison would be leaders/role models, I think one of them should be on the floor. Caron is more suited for a fast pace than AJ, but they shouldn’t be above reproach….if they aren’t fitting in to the system, yank their happy as-es also….but first, we gotta get a system.

Maybe we can get a system off Ebay????

Comment from slwiz
Time January 10, 2009 at 11:20 AM

DCbutler it’s just so sad that we are dealing with unrealistic actions that cause us to feel like we would be on a reality show. This is HOOPS for heavens sake not an auction off Ebay :) !! It should be about the team and fans to cheer them on!!

Right now I’d rather sacrifice leadership for HOT! Those guys are worn out and I’d rather them have some juice for when Gil and Brendon come back. They do play well together and will spark one another. Right now it’s the Rookies sparking and to me there mistakes are getting fewer! Look at how Blatche and Dom have come along. Well, Dom’s dropped off but he too may be tiring. Getting JaVale and Juan and Javaris in will get there confidence going. Nick will be charged from last night’s game. Geez; keep the momentum going Wiz staff!!

Comment from Tom Mandel
Time January 10, 2009 at 11:25 AM

neal — respectfully, I have to disagree. Of course attitude and enthusiasm are good things; no question. But once you are losing the way we have been through *almost half a season* you have to expect some heaviness of step.

But, we agree that management and coaching are where you have to look for responsibility. Who but Ernie could possibly be responsible for the state of the Wizards?

Sure, if Gilbert is 100% next year, we will be a better team than this — but how much better? Ditto Brendan. And, *will* Gilbert be 100% next year? We just gave him a ton of money when he was injured. I don’t think Ernie has a crystal ball; I don’t think he knows what’s going to happen.

We have 14 guaranteed contracts for next year. This team needs change, and it’s going to be hard to accomplish.

Time January 10, 2009 at 11:31 AM

Ok, I REALLY hope that McGee just proves me wrong because I am pretty hard on him…I have no remorse whatsoever about being hard on him; I guess that I’m just trying to be fair. Maybe I’m so hard on him because I just always felt that they’re always easy on him – for example, whenever he makes a mistake, they quickly pull him out…not because he did something wrong (like when they yank someone like Nick out), but because they wanna keep their “beloved” 7-footer looking good and for him to not appear as a “bust;” which is quite unfair if you ask me. I absolutely have no problem with McGee, but in seeing that everyone is all up on his ‘knob’, I just kinda zone everything out that involves him. Sorry McGee…

This is the new era of basketball though…Yeah, of course we’re gonna all have our favorites, but I just miss that TEAM feel. Overall, I LOVE the whole team; not McGee and “his” team, not Gil and “his” team, not Caron and “his” team…AB, Dom, and so-forth. TEAM stuff makes me cry. I just wanna cry dammit – - is that so hard to ask for!! Can I see hugs out of our guys or something; an embrace…They just leave each other in the cold – why leave little “Nicky” shivering LOL. Everyone needs love…

GO WIZARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning all,

Dag DJ, you’ve got terrible work hours, but I’d trade you in heartbeat!!!

I said I would repost my blog from yesterday (got in late last night) I wanted to get some reactions/thoughts about the team choosing to give J. Critt development time on the court over making the BIGS (Pech & Magee especailly) top priority for development. The organization’s not thinking like a championship franchise. Take for example the Lakers, Kobe’s great, but without the development of Bynum inside, Radmanovic outside, & Gasol all over, where would they be?????????
We need too start thinking bigger, literally!!!! Not trying too dog Crittenton but Dee Brown had the same game as Critt + a better jumpshoot !!!(and that’s not saying much)
BIG MEN WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!

From last night : What’s up y’all,

I’m convinced were trying to lose games to get a high draft pick or we just don’t know WHAT THE HELL we’re doing!!!! In the 1st qt. we’re getting killed inside and the first sub in the game is a guard????? Tapscott and the organization would rather work on developing Crittenton (who can’t shoot) than Magee a 7 footer!!!!!!! Guards come a dime a dozen (unless your tring to get a Cris Paul & Crittenton AIN’T NO Cris Paul plus we have Gil anyway) or if your going to develop a guard how about Nick Young.
If they want to develop Crittenton they should send him to the D-league. I would be satisfied with just playing James & Juan at the point. Not tring to kill the kid but, I don’t think he should be that high up on the Totem pole. We need to be thinking inside out!!!!

BIG MEN WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS……. Shaq, Duncan, Garnett not saying Magee is in that class but you never know? Even developing Pech, he can shoot but needs to work on everything else. I’m glad to see Blatche is finally getting some run. The year the Pistons won the title they didn’t have the classic big man in the middle but, they had 2 very good big men (the Wallace boys) to help each other out. Blatche & Magee should be playing beside one another if not starting, we should see that combo at some point in every game.

This may be the problem our priorities are all screwed-up. If our managment doesn’t know how to build a championship team we need to get someone in here who does or copy the model of a championship organization. I consider myself a die-hard Wizards fan so watching them this year is hard to stomach. You can hear the fustration in everyone who blogs. For the talent we do have, I don’t feel we’re using our guys properly. After Tap got kicked out Ayers took over and we started playing better. Maybe Ayers coaches better or the players were just happy to see Tap go??????????We need a coach who knows how to develop big men & will teach our team how to execute off. & def. & won’t settle for less.

I think we should make an all out effort to win games and not TANK for the rest of the season. We need to learn how to win games so we don’t end up in this same situation next year. Besides I don’t think there’s a player in the upcoming draft that would make us a championship contender anyway. We’ve gotta get Gil & Haywood back at 100% & add a player here & there in the hopes that we can get everyone on the same page. A knowledgable coach, 3 ALLSTARS, a good committee of centers & a group of quality role players should = success. (sounds like I just described the Celtics) It worked for them.

Go Wiz!!!!!

Bridge,

I noticed the lack of TEAM against orlando, but I just let my comments go…..when caron hit the jumper and was fouled by Turk (while falling out of bounds)….I only saw NY clapping on the bench (and it looked like a golf clap).

I don’t think it’s the players, per se. like everyone has been saying, mgmt has to step up. Against Orlando, they have some VERY GOOD big men (Turk, Lewis) and sometimes Dom may not be able to get an advantage with his natural skills. I didn’t see yesterdays game, but Noah and Thomas are energetic also (might make the matchup neutral)

We are saying the same thing everyday….we need a P.R. person…..who’s the one that knows coach Ayers?

zbp18,

We are hurting all over the place, as your blog pointed out.

IMO, I don’t think we would be compromising winning if we played our young more (If we had the proper leadership on the floor and from the coaches). The youth getting minutes will help them to understand how to work towards winning and hopefully, at the end of the day, they will know what it takes to win.
In the long run, it will/should help them not only be a good bench, but get ready to take on starting roles or to help keep the team afloat, for situations just like this (Gil and Haywood being out).
The other part is that we were not a championship team when they were healthy, so what was done or being done to make us a championship team if we had our whole team?

getabigboyoffense I’ve been trying to find out exactly what the concept of lottery offense is from your viewpoint. A light went off for me after last nights game that mgt is doing more than just playing their favorites (the vets) but “tanking” (tzbp18) the season to get a high lottery pick. Hey, I’ll be the first to say I’m a day late and a dollar short; but I finally see that not just you but others have been saying this for weeks, months!! Am I finally up to speed!! :) LOL Again, i really give you passionate Wizard TEAM bloggers kudos. It is just so frustrating!! Bridge – I’ve seen how guys give hugs in the hoops world and yeah, it would be nice for these guys to share some of that love between themselves. It’s hard though depending on your background; generally though if someone sets the tone and starts the chest bumping, hip bumping, jumping off the bench with a fist raised and the towel waving it usually gets to be contagious. Go Wiz!!!! Make some NOISE players and create some love for Bridge!!

DCbutler,
Thanks for replying, I just got back from work.

I think we’re prettymuch saying the same thing. I’m all for developing the young talent but we’re not trying to develop the right guy(s). We should be thinking inside out or should I say BIGS over smalls. I don’t know how you feel about J. Critt but, I don’t see it .
Yeah, he should be playing for the Wizards, the Dakota Wizards in the D-League!!!!!
But seriously, guards are plentiful in the NBA, BIGS are scarce. If Haywood would have been healthy this year he may have been an All-Star. Think about who’s in the east at Center…. D. Howard & after him you really just have alot of PF’s playing out of position.
The good teams in the east Celts, Cavs, Detroit…. usually play Center by committee. Which is why we need to develop our young bigs because, we also don’t have a BIG thats dominant equally offensively & defensively so we would also have to play by committee. If we don’t develop our bigs or make a miraculous trade for a big with both skills we’ll never win a title.

DCbutler (& anyone else who wants to chime-in) the next time you post let me know if you agree with the statement……. BIG MEN WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS, because I do and if that’s the case why are we focusing on getting playing time for Critt, & not giving Magee & Pech any real minutes???

GO WIZ!!!!!!!

I like JCritt because he was the only one that I noticed penetrating. MJ was laboring trying to bring it up court (seemed like it) and JD, that’s one of my favorites because of UMD, well let’s just say I didn’t notice him until the turnovers started.

Comment from dcbutler357

SportzWiz/dcbutler-to me that line up of Young, Dixon, Blatche, McGee and Jamison was a great 2nd line up. Nick is playing with a lot of confidence and when he attacks the rim, it seems like his game slows down and he gets in the flow much better.

No negativity from me tonight (maybe just a little). For me all these games are about is scouting what we have going into the new regime that will obviously lead this team. I must say you have a fortunate freanchisw when a 7-28 team can sell out a game against the Bobcats.

MENTAL MISTAKES, POOR DEFENSIVE ROTATIONS AND JUMP SHOTS ULTIMATELY DID US IN. WE GAVE UP SO MANY OPEN LOOKS AT THE THREE POINT LINE SIMPLY BECAUSE WE GET BROKEN DOWN OFF THE DRIBBLE (AND HAVE TO HELP ON EVERY POSSESSION). THE CULTURE OF THIS TEAM TOWARDS DEFENSE HA TO CHANGE. PLUS WE HAVE TO REALIZE THAT SOME OF OUR VETS HAVE LOST A STEP. AND FOR GODS SAKE CAN WE EVER TRY TO THROW THE BALL INTO THE POST, THE WORST THING THAT CAN HAPPEN IS WE MISS A SHOT.
I LOVE IT WHEN WE GET OUT AND RUN, WE GET EASY BASKETS IN BUNCHES.

It was pretty neat finally seeing McGee get some time and even more exciting seeing him paired with Blatch together. They really did a nice job. Andray Blatche has not totally convinced me but he has an impresive skill set for a man his size. He is an outstanding passer, has good form on his shot and reminds me a little of Olajawon around the paint. The move he made on Okafor in the last minute of the game was impressive. I really think he is realizing how good a basketball player he can be.

That young fella McGee is frakishly athletic and seems to be a good kid. There is no reason to believe that he wont continue to develop. His versatility and ability to run the court makes him unique. Imagine him and Gil in the Pick and Roll where you have to honor Gilberts ability to pull up or get all the way to the rim (Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler only a more potent model).

It is also apparent of the physical and mental toll that logging so many minutes and trying to carry a team is having on Jamison and Butler. It is much easier scoring off of ball movement rather than creating your own shot.

Going forward it is apparent that we need further help at both guards spots. This should be the focal point of our lottery pick. We have good front court players players (both young and old).

Even though this was a game we should have won. This is more encouraging than anything that has happened in the last two weeks. The young guys will play more now out of neccesity.

Mcgee not playing in the 2nd half suggests to me (especially afterlooking at the 1st half the way we subbed in and out with the rotations) that we are looking at the lottery and it hurts as a fan to say that. I agree, zgb18. I’d rather see Crittenton in the D-league. I don’t think the Wiz have ever utilized that option enough. It’s a step above most college programs that would help almost all rookies. They need to put in minutes in a tough environment.

It sounds to me like the young kids are providing the energy. Seems like one or two of our veterans on the court at any one time is enough. The rest of the time we could play the kids. Things could hardly get worse, and we could develop the young guys.

Comment from neal
Time January 10, 2009 at 11:10 PM

I think our veterans are emotionally tired. This is the point in their career when they want to be on top. Instead, despite various changes, they keep losing. Time is running out for them. The young guys have most of their career in front of them. A lot can happen. But if I were Jamison, Butler, Thomas or Songaila I’d probably be dispirited.

this about sums it up:

Losing to the Bobcats: Bad

Losing to the Bobcats on your home court: Awful

Losing to the Bobcats on your home court after holding a lead for most of the first 3 quarters: Ridiculous.

Losing to the Bobcats on your home court after holding a lead for most of the first 3 quarters in a game where the Bobcats best player doesn’t take a single shot or score a single point in 20 minutes: Priceless.

I’m sure that I’m not going to say anything that has not already been said, but I’m going to add my two cents anyhow.

First, I heard JeffM on the call-in show. Nice going Jeff on stating the blog party-line about playing Blatche and McGee together. You made more sense than all of the other callers put together. Glenn, however, spouted the Wiz party-line…you have to understand all of the pieces that have to be considered when you make a substitution…etc.,etc,etc. That is such B.S.

A good coach takes a look at what is happening; sees who the opposition is playing; and tries to EXPLOIT weaknesses, not match up. And a good coach certainly doesn’t take a poll amoung the coaching staff about what to do during the game.

I was at the game. The best, most exciting times during the game, the times when the fans were INTO it (haven’t seen that too much this year) was when McGee and Blatch were in the game at the same time. We had a nice run and then Tap made some of his BRILLIANT substitutions and the run and the fun were gone.

McGee played 18:49 had 9 points on 4 of 4 shooting; 4 rebounds; 1 assist; 1 steal and 1 blocked shot. However, he probably changed the trajectory of another 10 shots that were missed. You could see that the Bobcats wanted no part of him on either end of the court. I guess, LOTTERY COACH couldn’t see the same thing and limited McGee’s minutes in the second half.

Blatch was VERY solid. He played a lot of minutes, and for the most part, he let the game come to him. It’s too bad that we don’t have any offensive scheme that could take advantage of his skills.

Slick Nick has 12 points on 6 of 9 from the field; added 2 assists and had 1 turnover. This guy is a scoring machine. Again, it is too bad that we don’t have an offensive scheme that can get him the ball in a position where he could succeed more often.

McGuire has obviously been working on his offensive game…3 for 5 for 7 points with 3 assists. He only had 5 rebounds, but, I swear on one of those his chest was above the rim.

So why did we lose the game? Tap has a really bad habit of changing “hot” rotations when they are going good. He constantly disrupts the offensive rhythm of the team. It’s as though he has a scripted substitution pattern and it doesn’t matter how good the rotation on the court is going, he’s going to substitute. The Wiz were at their best when they were attacking, both on offense and defense, because that led to getting down the court on offense and taking a good shot rather than running that damn LOTTERY OFFENSE.

Tap has already played CB and AJ way too many minutes. You can see it when they shoot. Your legs are vital to your shooting technique and their legs are tired. What a chicken s— way to coach…put all the weight to succeed or fail on the shoulders of your two All-stars.

The Wiz have a LOTTERY COACH and a LOTTERY OFFENSE. Neither of them is fan-friendly, and I personally am sick of it.

Dear Ed,

I can’t thank you enough for your hospitality last night. For a while you were not being a gracious host when you were playing those two mobile 7-footers together. We were afraid to get within ten feet from the rim against those guys. Then on the offensive end that rookie was stuffing it down our throats because we couldn’t keep up with him and Blatche sometimes actually realizes that he can bang people around rather than taking fadaway shots.

But anyway, when you kept the rookie out in the second half and stopped attacking us on both ends, we actually had a chance, thanks to you.

Next time your in Charlotte, look me up and the beer is on me.

Regards,
Larry

McGee is the only potential allstar on this team. He reminds me of D Howard his first hear but with a shot. Big athletic and likes to jump. Not many big men like to jump. The only thing stopping him is the coaching staff. It’s almost as if they are afraid to have him succeed. Oh well we had a reason to get excited in the first half finally. That place was rocking when he had that first slam. Consider this 9pts with no played called for him.

Man, JaVale had a *great* game last night — and all I can do is look at the numbers, as I am out of town and unable to watch.

Looks to me like Ed’s job is to lose games — management wants a high draft choice? If I read right, JaVale dominated the first half and then didn’t play much in the 2d half?

How long-suffering do we have to be as fans? I think I’m now at the point where I want to show the whole of management the door — and don’t let it hit you in the butt on your way out.

Comment from Tom Mandel
Time January 11, 2009 at 9:16 AM

On the other hand, I kind of agree w/ the strategy, so why did I write the above? :)

We do need a potential star out of next year’s draft. You only get those if you pick high. Maybe the Thunder will “gel” (if they were called “the Tinder” they could catch fire) and win a lot of games, dropping Blake Griffin in our laps.

Actually… I don’t know what I want. I’m too confused. Coach… substitute me out! :)

One note about JaVale last night — from the boxscore it looks like we went down 12 while he was in. I can’t understand that given his disruptive stats.

Another question: Pecherov played pretty well night before last. Why didn’t he get some minutes last night in reward for his effort?

I agree with Neal and rnbrown. I don’t think we are “intentionally” losing games. I can’t imagine a professional sports franchise even thinking about doing that.

It’s a real shame that we have nobody on our coaching staff that can run the team effectively. Ernie should have had a better plan in place before he let Eddie go. I didn’t often agree with Eddie’s rotations (he didn’t like playing the young guys either) but they certainly make more sense than what we have seen under Tapscott. I can see why so many bloggers think Tapscott is trying to lose games. He waits until a player is playing well if not dominating then he pulls him with no apparent plan for getting that player back into game action. I don’t think he is trying to lose I think the man simply does’t have a clue. The problem with that is he has nobody on the bench behind him to offer any advice. Hubbard, Ayers, and Wes Jr. are not assistant coaches to be matched up with an inexperienced head coach. The way I see it, three things are possible. 1) We fire the entire coaching staff and hire a more competent one (unlikely). 2) Tapscott being the smart guy he is with an advanced degree in statistics allows the little light bulb over his head to turn on brightly allowing him to see the error of his coaching ways (more likely but still too much of a stretch). and 3) we keep everything as it is. We keep losing games and frustating the players and fans. (alas, that sounds the most likely to me)

I never agreed with Eddie getting released and I don’t even want Ed released. Just work with what you have. Make the rookies better. Keep resting the vets. You did last night!! Honest I saw Caron and Jamison with under 35 minutes! Now just play McGee and Blatche your bigs together and get either Critt or Juan in there as the driver’s penetrators with Nick and Dom and you’ve got a working team of starters. ALLOW the all stars to come of the bench. IT”S NOT A SLAP IN THE FACE!! Don’t you see it Tap and staff. All the makings are there if you’d just change your “Wiz party line”!!

You know guys Tom is right. Tapscott got thrust into this position, probably, over his morning corn flakes one day. He had to …Quick… come up with a plan. No Fair.

This is Ernie’s vision. Ernie, except for Haywood, has brought everybody else here. Why, with all of his NBA experience, isn’t ERNIE coaching this team???

Well, here I am sitting in a BestBuy waiting for someone to configure a computer for a friend — I helped her buy it, took it home, discovered the mouse didn’t work and had to come back. :(

No, I’m sure no one is *trying* to lose — I imagine it’d be hard to get yourself to do that even if you wanted to. So, I definitely take that back.

But, as Grif says above — this is *Ernie’s team.* If there’s a problem, it’s on Ernie to fix it because Ernie created it. If the team is too dependent on Gilbert (wch I don’t believe, btw), then that too is on Ernie. He built this roster.

I didn’t think it was time to fire Eddie Jordan, but if a new coach doesn’t improve things, then it’s on the players and the guy who chose them. In that sense, yes, something has to change.

I enjoyed reading these latest posts. Tom I agree with you that EG is more of the problem now than Ed. Ed is being placed in a scapegoat roal. He is really a quality first nba guy. He is just not head coach material. That is EG’s fault. The fact that he did not go out and seek another seasoned coach to possibly rescue our season. He might as well kept EJ aboard for the season.
I don’t think the Wizards are throwing games intentionally. I believe Abe needs to really see if EG is good for our future before hiring a new coach. We need a basketball man that can see the talent on our team needs to be maximized. That is an insult to say you are not playing McGee when he performs well one night the next because he does not match up well with the next opponent. When you have young players like Javale, Nick, Javaris and Pech being handled like that it is dangerous to a players confidence and overall development. By the way who is the big man coach for the Wiz? He needs to go. The Wizards need someone that can work with AB, Javale, Pech and DMAC down low. When AB had that breakout game against the Warriors earlier in the season, he reminded me of a young Chris Webber.
The scary part for me WIZ4life is even if we get one of those early ping pong balls is how will management screw that up.
When we picked up Javale at 18 that was a steal. He could easily with the way he was developing in college be a top 10 pick or lower this year.
No matter what anybody say’s we do have some good talent on this team. Right now we are in need of leadership from upstairs.

I do think Ernie is and has been a really good gm for the Wiz. I don’t like his ‘06 pick of Pecherov — that’s the biggest blunder of his time here. But, I’m sure there was a reason we needed to pick someone we could stash in Europe for a year.

I’m also critical of Nick Young, as I’ve made obvious, but I don’t know that there was a better player available to pick at his spot in ‘07. On the other hand, Dominic was obviously a great pick.

Ernie’s trades have been very good for the Wizards, although I don’t like the most recent one.

As to JaVale, when you are picking #18 you don’t usually get a player who makes a difference. JaVale certainly has the potential to do that — from potential to doing it, however, is a big step.

thing is about the draft you could send a over payed guy to another team with that one draft pick and get a better player or so on i am a fan i would rather be in the playoffs but its not going to happen this year its time to let the kids get there time on the floor its about the future now its about the rookies and there time and the film your going to give to the next coach so he knows who and what he is working with and how to place them in game

Slick Nick finally gets to play some serious minutes and he shoots the lights out at a very high percentage over two games working within a non-existent offense and he is being criticized!!! Nick is a pure scorer. Figure out how to get him some open shots (watch what the Bucks do for Redd tomorrow) and Nick will get us 20 pts every game.

As much as I would like to see Tap out of the head coaches position ASAP, I really don’t think that that is going to happen this year. So I would really like him to seriously think about changing his rotation philosophy.

The Wiz would be better off limiting CB and AJ minutes to between 25-30 a game. It would take some of the pressure off them trying to carry the team. I don’t believe that it is necessary for one of them to be on the court at all times. That is Tap B.S. He is running the two of them into the ground and it is counter-productive to the team. They are currently over 40 minutes per game each. Taking 10 minutes from each would allow McGee and Blatche to be on the court at the same time for about 20-25 minutes per game. That would be fun to watch for Wiz fans and hell to pay for the opposition.

SportzWiz: I know you mentioned Taps pregame interview for the Bulls was short but if it could be posted as an audio link I’d like to listen to it again. Jeffmalone1990 said he missed it. He and others might also enjoy hearing it. Thanks for trying!

Tom

Just for fun let’s not forget about:

2006 Draft Picks – Washington Wizards
RD PK(OVR) NAME POS SCHOOL/COUNTRY
1 18th (18th) Oleksiy Pecherov PF Ukraine
The word was that the Wizards made a promise to Pecherov a while ago, so we knew this was coming…

2 18th (48th) Vladimir Veremeenko PF Russia
Veremeenko is an interesting pick. He’s a bit of a tweener, but he’s had some success in Russia. He’s probably…

Hey slwiz-I appreciate that, and I would enjoy

Love the comments getaboy, Wiz4L, Neal and Grif (lenman, dcbutler to name a few)

While I disagree with some of the posts, I have to say that the folks who take the time to express their opinion, as emotional as some of those might be, are real FANS. It is really enjoyable to read what everyone has to say. The criticism/comments appear heartfelt and, I’m sure, are expressed in an effort to help the team. The Wiz have provided an excellent forum for the fans to participate. It is great that DJ takes the time to get things going each day, even though, I’m sure, he is frequently extremely tired from the hectic schedule. Thanks Dave for the blog, blogcasts, and the superior broadcasts.

Thanks to all for their respective insight and thanks to DJ and Glen (I hope I have the names correct), for allowing us to vent and always treating everyone with respect and class, WHILE at the same time, reeling us in when necessary. We also thank you for being diverse (running the radio show and blogging). You have hectic schedules and thank you for adding another duty to your lives.

Also thanks to the Wiz for allowing this type of communication to exist.

Everything will work itself out in due time.

God Bless

GetaBB we have, as a collective group, been screaming for less minutes for Gil, Antawn, and Caron since this blog posted it’s first comment it seems lol. I think if Red Auerbach came back to coach the Wizards he would play them 40 a night??? I’ll never figure that out either.

I just saw the commercial on TV and since they are sponsoring the radio show, I’ll do my part and put some resources back into the economy/community (i guess we can call it a blog-stimulus package) ;-)

Oh, “meet you at the turtle” is their “jingle”. In the rap world it would be called their “hook” (so bridge can understand the lingo)…lol…
