Game Day Chicago

5:20 AM EST…yeah that 4:20 AM. CST…Dave Johnson checking in…..the game against the Raptors showed it…lose the commitment on the boards lose the game….I know poor shot selection especially early played a role but I think the Wizards lostbecause they were out-rebounded by 11…. and that was strange because the last half dozen games or so the Wizards have really done well on the boards and the result has been more wins and competetitive games….Javaris Crittenton had his best game with Wizards—6 assists and no turnovers….over dinner last night with partner Glenn Consor we talked about just wanting to see this team get on a run….we are not talking anything crazy but why not take 6 of 10 games or 7 of 10…looking forward to our BLOG party tonight…BLOGCAST—radio and blogging together  you are court side with us….starts at 8:30 Eastern… and on the dial( I don’t think radios have dials anymore) ESPN 980 AM in Washington….94.3 FM in Warrenton and Northern Virginia….92.7 FM in Southern Maryland…1370 AM in Baltimore….and on affiliates from Cumberland to Roanoke…..and there will be our friend that LISTEN LIVE link…

7:45 PM EST…Dave Johnson checking in from United Center……starters are in …Derrick Rose, Ben Gordon, Thabo Sefolosha, Tyrus Thomas, Drew Gooden…..Mike James, Caron Butler, Dominic McGuire, Antawn Jamison, Andray Blatche

Wow, it’s pretty surprising that the Wiz were out-rebounded because the Raptors are known as the ‘worse’ rebounding team in the league. Despite tonight being MY night for “great television” (with the return of [my shows!] “Monk” and “Psych”), I’ll still be watching the game of course ;) …That little red ‘record’ button on my remote is such a savior on nights like this! Lol….

GO WIZARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only way this season can still become interesting is by letting the young guys play heavy minutes. If McGee gets another DNP tonight they should fire Tapscott.

Go Wiz!!!!

Good luck in the “Windy City”.

I’ll join the bloggers after the game.

Yah, I agree with Jaba if McGee does not play tonight Tapscott should be out of here! Wait he should have never got the job in the first place! Again, this is the same old same old over and over again dude has no clue! when I watch the Wiz play sometimes I wonder if he’s even watching the same game!

Earlier in the year (maybe it was a rumor, however I trust this was true) The Wiz were looking to trade for Hughes however at the time he was injured, it looks like the Bulls are really looking to move him, IMHO I say we pull the trigger:

http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm

We actually have some players and contracts that make this trade work, we will see as the deadline gets closer.

Comment from Rick
Time January 9, 2009 at 1:29 PM

Tapscott says he is not willing to play the veterans fewer minutes and the young guys more minutes and sacrifice the chance of winning.

IS HE SERIOUS? PLAYING THE VETERANS IS NOT RESULTING IN WINS ANYWAY!!

As I recall it was Jamison who fell in love with the jumper (and kept missing them early in the Toronto game), it was also his man, Bargnani, who nailed a few threes and together put us in a big hole to start the game (again). He might have ended up with 32 points, but is that helping us win?

And what about Butler, against Orlando he went scorless in the first half. Yes, he scored an amazing 29 in the second half, but it seems to me that both he and Jamison are too tired to close out games strong.

Come on Tap! Play the vets fewer minutes, I bet their stats will be the same and they are not going to make the all-star team anyway. The future of this team depends on the young guys developing, not Antawn continuing to get 20 points 10 reb and 0 assists.

jeffmalone, I’ll bet that rumor about Hughes was just “wishful thinking” by people remembering the exciting days when our backcourt was Hughes and Arenas. But you can’t go back. Now Hughes is 30 and injury prone. And he’s making $12,800,000 this year and $13,900,000 next year. Who are you going to trade for him that Chicago wants?

I’d much rather have Hinrich, who is 28 and makes $10M this year and $9.5M, $9,0M and $8M over the next 3 years. If they would take Jamison for him I’d do that in a NY minute. But that’s just a pipe dream unless Chicago is hard up for a scoring PF.

I still think we’re better off with Tapscott than with Jordan. And I think Tapscott will be gone after this year.

I’m not a fan of Hughes; I don’t even like him as a Bull. Knowing the organization though, they seem to like “reunions” so I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted him back/if he came back. Didn’t HE choose to leave for Cleveland? IDK; don’t really care at this point either….I don’t even know when I watched my last Bulls game – - oh wait, that was when these two teams played each other last time, in December. Not living in the past myself (well, maybe I am for the moment), but the ONLY player I wouldn’t mind being a Wiz again is AD…Yeah, ok, Mike James (whatever!) and Critt; Critt, I can admit, has a lot of potential, but the floor is just sooo disorganized without [“coach”] AD. They love him down there in New Orleans though, so that’s good…

I wouldn’t take Kirk over Twan; Kirk is alright, but that’ll just be CRAZY!

Oh, and what Dmac did defensively against Toronto, when he used his hand to cover Parker’s eyes (I think that was Parker), was just brilliant!…and very funny – - we saw some personality! That was great…I guess that, like Jamison said, they DO have to find a way to make it fun out there…

Larry Hughes…I don’t know, folks! We’ve got a good guard with lots of talent in Nick Young. Give the guy playing time and, most of all, coaches, give him some confindence, I think he can still develop into something just as good as Larry Hughes.(ok, maybe not defensivly). And we don’t even have to trade anyone for him! He’s already here! Give the guy tons of playing time, the rest will come!

Comment from gbkdc
Time January 9, 2009 at 3:33 PM

That is funny, DCButler!

Bridge, YEAH, I thought that was SO FUNNY – that shot of DMAC!

But was it me, or did DMAC not have a great game that night? Sometimes it is hard to tell with defense because the stats are sometimes confusing to me. I konw he only got one rebound, but did he do some other things well? Limit someone’s scoring? He is entitled to a so-so game once in a while, of course.

Bridge and gbkdc,
ROFLMAO…..my virgin eyes!!!

In regards to DMAC and Toronto….they were hitting threes from all over the place and DMAC can’t check everyone, but I think he may have been outsized, or I may be thinking about him checking Turk (Orlando).

LOL….Sorry guys, I don’t think that I can blog tonight. I have a birthday party to go to and I have plans after that occassion also…..Hey, it’s friday and I have to get the blood flowing for all the inauguration parties ;-)

Yes Bridge, the stuff is good. Shall I roll you one?

I know you’re attached to our players Bridge and Jamison is a stand-up guy, but consider the following. Hinrich is shooting 43% from the field, Jamison 46%, Hinrich is 42% from 3 point range, Jamison 31%, Hinrich is 89% from the FT line, Jamison 74%. Hinrich is will be 30 this month, Jamison will be 33 in June. Hinrich plays a position where we’re thin (PG). Jamison plays a position where we’re overstaffed (PF).

Regarding next year’s pick I have only one comment: No more tall skinny forwards who want to shoot from the perimeter.

Comment from neal
Time January 9, 2009 at 5:22 PM

And maybe most important of all, Hinrich is known for his defensive ability while Jamison is known for his defensive deficiencies.

Comment from Tom Mandel
Time January 9, 2009 at 5:47 PM

neal — as of 12/30 Dominic was averaging 12.4 boards per 48 (and that’s from the SF position).

If we traded Antawn for Kirk, we’d have to put Blatche in as our 4, I guess? That is a *big drop* in productivity. Extremely big, as in enormous. Hinrich would give us a boost at the 1, to be sure, but I don’t think it’d be an equivalent.

Now, if we could trade Mike James and Etan for Hinrich and a big they want to get rid of (they have a few of those), I’d go for it. Or Mike James and Blatche for Hinrich straight up, if the salaries worked.

Comment from Jaba
Time January 9, 2009 at 5:49 PM

These are my modest hopes for tonight: Blatche will get a double double, Mike James will only take 14 shots and make 50% of them, AJ will get a career high in blocked shots, Javale McGee will get more than five minutes of playing time, Tapscott gets two technicals within the first ten minutes and has to leave the game.

Time January 9, 2009 at 5:52 PM

First of all I miss blogging with everyone as much as I use to. Just been very busy at work and at home. Still I have not taken my Wizards sticker off my back windshield. Since our season has been so disappointing. I find myself
brain storming about what changes I would make now and during the offseason.
1. Unless Tapscott comes up with a coaching miracle between now and after the all star break he won’t be back as head coach.
2. I would not bring in another coach midseason because it would not be fair to the players or the incoming coach. We don’t need to rush to fail anymore. More than anything our team needs a coach who has a vision for success and a track record to support it. We need a coach who is great at developing young talent and maintaining a chemistry with veteran players.
3. Dont’ sweat about when Gil is going to play. If he is not ready for this season then I am OK with that. I want to see Gil 100 % ready when he get’s back. My prayer is for Gil to bounce back like DWade/Flash has bounced back.
4. If we are fortunate enough to land one of the top 3 picks in the draft and get Griffin. Then I will pencil him in the starting lineup with a healthy BH, Caron on the front line. If Jamison is still here then he is my sixth man. He would be more valuable and dangerous plus he prolongs his career.
5. If we land a great coach then Nick, Dominic, Javale, Javaris and AB will blossom.
6.If none of this seems possible then hire Patrick Ewing to coach our team and Patrick can hire John Thompson as a special consultant to the team.

Comment from Bridge
Time January 9, 2009 at 5:59 PM

Like I said, Kirk is alright, but in being familiar with him as a player, he can cause a lot of turnovers and is known to be inconsistent. I like his defense, but why not teach our players some defense (which is something that has been stressed/needed for a while now). I’ve seen Jamison defend, and when he is, he’s GREAT at it. I just find it crazy how age seems to have a lot to do with wanting to keep a player vs. not wanting to keep a player…So, I guess that it’s common to blame the (“old”) vets now for our losses. Alright, people want a young team; go watch the OKC Thunder – - what are they again – - like 5 and 31…Or y’all can watch the Portland Trailblazers – - you might see that their team doesn’t really get along with each other, but there’s that “young juice” that everyone is craving. But then you have “old” teams like Boston, for example, that the world just seems to love…I just don’t get it nowadays…

And, naw, I don’t want none of that (whatever you’re smokin’ lol). I have to keep my judgment right, but I’m sure that it comes in handy for “numbers” people like you…Sorry, but it’s not really my ‘stee-lo’ to look at ages and number all day…

Hope you have fun dcbutler!!

tapscott, can not do the job that need to do to be done to contends in the east. I don’t understand what hes trying to do, but whatever it is it’s not working.
he coach like he doesn’t study film on the teams he play and the players that he substitute just doesn’t make since sometime, i rotate my bigs more then my back court start mike james at the 1 and nick at the 2 an bring dixon off the bench and have him attack the basket from time to time to diversifiy his game an make him more difficult to guard. an far as j critt hes not ready if you can’t get 6 assit an your playing the 1 an have no points an 1 rebound then you shouldn’t be in the league at all

Comment from rnbrown4
Time January 9, 2009 at 7:50 PM

Tap talked about earning minutes. He needs to know what he’s looking for to tell these guys how to earn minutes. How difficult is it to tell Blatche if you don’t get me 10 rebounds a game your time will be limited. Point gaurds should easily get 5 to 10 assist a game. If not your time will get cut. Make these guys accoutable for something.

I though we played hard against POrlando…and actually came out and played hard outscored 30-25 in first quarter…and needless to say there have been recent wins and the cleveland games….but against tornoto and now tonight not good….and sadly as our record indicates we are struggling as a team to be good….i wish had a good answer

One half is enough for me. We’re playing lousy D – looking dispirited – and Chicago is doing a good job of making us pay.

Tom, I was talking about trading Jamison for Hinrich, not Blatche.

According to the Wizards site, McGuire is averaging 4.0 rebounds in 17.1 minutes. That’s 11.1 over 48 minutes.

Jeff, tonight the win was there with the young ones playing. the coaches yanked them. To me the coaching staff sacrafices the win for the veterns to play and be in the line-up. The staff would rather lose than keep ALL the young ones who are fired up and hitting in the game. Oh, sure, they keep maybe one, but not all of them who are HOT and fired up and ready to play and hitting the HOOP. What is your opinion?

Great game for Slick Nick. If only we had a coaching staff that was able to design an offense that allows him to get open more often (and not take him out of the game as soon as he makes a mistake) we would have a 20+ ppg player. The guy CAN score!

Blatche was the only positive force in the first half…so Tap takes him out because he get a second foul and he doesn’t return until the second half…nice use of personnel coach.

AJ and CB combine to stink the place out and (although I haven’t seen the stats) I’ll bet they had the most minutes…again, nice use of personnel coach. Give these two guys a rest…about a week would be fine by me; or limit their minutes to 30 per game.

The Bulls went small and McGee didn’t play; the Bulls went big and McGee didn’t play. I’m sure that Tap will say that the match-ups weren’t right to play him. I guess Tap figures McGee only matches up against McGee’s Mom playing one-on-one in the driveway.

Speaking of matching-up…I am firmly convinced that Tap thinks that every time the opposition makes a substitution the Wiz is obligated to make a substitution to ensure that we are “matched-up”. Hello Tap, if you have the advantage, you don’t match up, you take advantage. It’s as though the Bulls went small and Tap turned to Jr. and said “We’re bigger than them. What do we do now?”, or the Bulls went big and he turned to Jr. and said “Now we’re faster than them. What do we do now?” and Jr. said “MATCH-UP”.

Pech gets in the game and scores about 2 points per minute. He also bangs the ball around on the boards. He plays good defense. BUT he only plays once every 15 games. What is wrong with this picture?

Except when we push the ball up the court and attack (nice work Mike and Critt), we still don’t have any offense that gets us an open shot more than 10% of the time.

Get rid of the LOTERY OFFENSE; get rid of the LOTTERY COACH. Let’s put a competitive team on the court that runs a big boy offense.

Comment from jeffmalone1990
Time January 9, 2009 at 11:29 PM

getaboy-Pech sparked the run to get the Wiz back in the game, scored 9 pts in 4 minutes, and then he was subbed out, wth? For Jamison who was just tired, he or Caron did not have it tonight. We made the comeback with the young guys, but yet out Twan and CB3 to try and finish (horrible). Nick had a great game, and Blatche was solid, I am done trying to figure why we have substitution issues, I cannot figure this one out.

Comment from GrifonRacing
Time January 9, 2009 at 11:32 PM

Very interesting game tonight. We lost and didn’t look very good for a lot of the game, but, a few players got their chance and made the most of it. Crit made a very strong argument for keeping James on the bench. What a game by Nick. He was simply excellent on both ends of the floor in the second half. If he can play at that level consistently we really have something. Andray was a Beast. Good on both ends with 4 blocks. Still too many of those silly fade-a-ways though.

Yeah. We finally got to see some Pesherov! It’s about time. If what he showed tonight in, what 5 minutes, is any indication of how he can tie up the middle I’m all for seeing more minutes for him (we all knew he could shoot).

40 minutes for Caron and Antawn (give or take a second or two). Both having lousy games. Poor old lonely looking JaVale sits there twiddling his thumbs on the end of the bench. I’m not even going to ask what you guys think about that as I KNOW everybody else here is saying … HUH?… too.

Man… Tom chime in here… I’m figuring Pech is good for 96 points per 48 minutes… Is my math good? Do you think we can get that from him?
Thoughts everyone?

C’mon, the guy came in & banged in a three ball (two attempts) & found his way to the line (knocking in his foul shots)… Most likely got a ZERO of every other statistical catagory… I know, he didn’t get enough minutes… But relax everyone… We were getting trounced & nobody in the league knows who he is, so he’s good for a few surprise buckets when he comes in (that is provided he’s making his shots)… Re freakin’ lax.

Getabigboy – Speechless… I love your stuff!

No I didn’t Slwiz, but, I’d sure like to. I can’t understand for the life of me why a guy who played so well in spurts for us early sees no court time now.

M2? You and Tom and a couple others surprise me. How can you judge a guy who was hurt his entire rookie season and gets no minutes his second? Wouldn’t you guys at least want to see him “play” a little before declaring him a bum? Very Very hard to tell a players talents from the bench.

M2-Pech had a steal as well, and let’s be fair it was in 5 min of play, OMG! We have not seen enough of him in a game situation to know what we have in him, however with that production in limited minitues I want to see more!

The stats-oriented people just don’t understand the passion of b-ball. You can’t develop positive stats unless you are allowed to play. Statistical analysis on players who have played limited minutes is pure B.S.

Ah Ha. It’s the dreaded Tapsups or what he percieves to be macthups is what is keeping JaVale on the bench? Somebody should maybe let Tap know that if your man is the dominant man then let the other team try to match up with you.

Hey good news we are still playing the”7″ game sets:

In Next ‘Segment,’ Lineup May Change

By Ivan Carter
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, January 10, 2009; E05

CHICAGO, Jan. 9 — Before Friday’s game against the Bulls, interim coach Ed Tapscott indicated that he would likely alter his playing rotation. Tapscott likes to break the season into seven-game segments and the Wizards completed the last one with Wednesday’s home loss to Toronto.

During the last segment, the Wizards went 3-4 and guard Juan Dixon and rookie center JaVale McGee saw little or no action, but Tapscott indicated that would change before facing the Bulls.

“This is one of those times where I’ll take a look at another guy or two,” Tapscott said. “Because you have to have a successful segment to stand pat. We had a chance for a winning segment, but we didn’t so you have to look for other answers. I told some of the guys who haven’t a had chance in a while to be ready.”

Tapscott wasn’t pleased with some of the shots McGee took in a loss at Boston on Jan. 2.

“Take good shots,” Tapscott said of his message to McGee. “I don’t want him to feel like he can’t shoot. Just take good shots. Play the game intelligently and play the game with passion. Do that, and we’ll be fine.”

Hughes on the Move?

Larry Hughes has made it known that he’d welcome a trade, and the Bulls have been open to moving the veteran since last summer but aren’t willing to take on bad contracts.

Earlier this season, the Wizards and Bulls had a deal in the works that would’ve brought Hughes back to Washington. But the deal fell apart when Hughes injured his shoulder.

Up Next: Saturday vs. Charlotte 7 p.m. WDCW-50, WTEM-980

Monday vs. Milwaukee 7 p.m. Comcast SportsNet, WTEM-980

Get rid of the LOTERY OFFENSE; get rid of the LOTTERY COACH

did you see my earlier comment to jeffmalone about coaches sacraficing the win to play the veterns? Have you seen this a step further in that the staff will lose the game and keep the big boy offense with held from the game to obtain the lottery pick?

to grifon; thought you might have missed this post by getabigboy…..Speaking of matching-up…I am firmly convinced that Tap thinks that every time the opposition makes a substitution the Wiz is obligated to make a substitution to ensure that we are “matched-up”.

Just saw your post Jeff and yeah he put in Pech. But really keeping McGee out for all those games; well it’s no wonder I’m feeling like the staff is more concerned about merit, and showing honor to the veterns, and now I’m even thinking they just lose to get the lottery pick. When a fan feels this way; geez, I hope the staff changes things quicker; it’s a pretty sad thought.

jeff, remember I sometimes write in Word and don’t send it. Earlier tonight i wrote the following. I think it fits in with your request for comment on above article.

I hope they play consistently tomorrow and that Pech and Nick do well. But more importantly to me is if they aren’t HOT but productive they are allowed to stay in the game. I’m beginning to wonder about mistakes not being played through. IMO there is a balance. If a player makes the same mistake over and over and over that’s when PT could be reduced. But really one bad pass or one bad shot, even in the critical stage of the game just means the player is human and could be forgiven and JUST MOVE ON not take the guy out and bench him for game after game.

Again, i wrote that even before seeing the article. Geez, lets get to know the players and forgive them there mistakes. Discipline is important; but wow, how many splinters did JaVale get for that bad shot!! LOL

DJ I agree with you; small steps like a run of winning games really isn’t that much to ask for. It’s obtainable and reasonable!! I do enjoy you and glens passion and allowing us to give our opinions. You, too, SportzWiz. It’s been tough on me since Dee was released. I figure you all know that. Too, Andray’s ankle going out against Boston was a tough one. I really thought we had momentum that night. My Fighting Illini have been doing well, too. They lost to Michigan and didn’t crack the Top 25 but they are so much better than last year!

I’ve seen Pech plenty in Richmond & Vegas… & in his limited minutes during the regular season. It doesn’t take much to figure out with some guys. I have it figured out, the coaching staff has it figured out, the other GM’s in the league have it figured out. He’s a soft a$$ big that relies on streak shooting from deep… Most of the time leading to long rebounds & run outs by the opposing squad.

When he made that steal & went hard with his dribble to the bucket with Gooden on his hip only to take it up with some soft a$$ nonsense I threw up in my mouth. That shoulda been an “and one”. He probably should have gathered himself & punched it?
He’s weak!

Comment from GrifonRacing

Ah, but, you forget the force he was in last year’s summer league. Then he broke his ankle. If he gets back to last year’s summer league form I think you will sing a different tune.

You don’t develop in the NBA without minutes. Crittenton will also have the chance to prove that theory.

Same old same old here! Again no McGee! I’m starting to think Tapscott’s actually works for the team where playing that night. Tapscott is like the NBA’s version of George Bush just down right lame!

Comment from lenman

Are you kidding me? Shot selection is the reason that JaVale has been benched. Hell he was benched when he was avearing about 9 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks a game in about 18 minutes of play. You got players going one on one on every trip down, shooting underhand foul line scoop shots and Mike James jacking up air balls 5 seconds into the shot clock. That is absolute garbage and everybody knows it.

This excerpt from todays article and the meritocracy article from yesterday ought to convince anyone that this franchise not only has no clue as to what they are doing but are throwing a young man under the bus because of their own incompetence. Is there anyone who has watched this team play that does not realize that Tapscott has lost this team and that the team is headed south. Who the hell ever heard of 7 game segments as a barometer for lineup changes and setting rotations. If merit is the standard, half of the team should be benched because tonight was the most uninspired effort I have ever watched from a Wizard team.

What the heck is meirtocracy anyway? I have never heard this term used in my 40 years of playing and watching basketball. What are the criteria for this “meritocracy” and how is it evaluated on a team that has won seven games (including home wins over Golden State and Oklahoma). If it truly was a meritocracy the then we would not have enough players to field a squad. How did Mike James and Javaris Crittenton earn their playing time when they just got here. They both have made more turnovers and mistakes and have been given free reign to play big minutes. If meritocracy is a function of seniority, then we should sign Dikembe he is almost 42 years old. What Tapscott is really saying is that the NBA is a close knit fraternity where you can be unsucesful in New York, Charlottee and in DC and still get a cushy well paying job. Guys look out for their people as long as they can create the illusion that they are competent. (Psychobabble is all this rhetoric is).

Now if this was truly predicated upon merit, Tapscott would have gotten his pink slip about two weeks ago but most definitely after tonights escapade. And the won lost thing is only part of it, more important is the damage that he is doing to the team and player development. Tapscott has committed the equivalent of coaching malpractice because he has gotten into the head of his young players and doing long term damage. Nick Young played well because he was not thinking and the substiitute coach was gone.

The last thing I will say is this. In the last two articles Tapscott clearly is addressing fan pressure as to why McGee has not been playing. I have no doubt that it is personal (that has got to be the only reason on a 7-28 team). Something is up, no doubt. But to infer that one bad shot from this kid, on this team that has exhibited some of the poorest, most blatant shot selection I have ever seen, is a cowardly and poor way to treat your first round draft pick.

There is absolutely no way that Grunfeld can let this staff finish the year. I am a diehard supporter but I can’t support an organization that does not attempt to do things the right way. If Tapscott is back, there is no way in the world I will renew my season tickets.

Time January 10, 2009 at 2:09 AM

What’s up y’all,

I’m convinced were trying to lose games to get a high draft pick or we just don’t know WHAT THE HELL we’re doing!!!! In the 1st qt. we’re getting killed inside and the first sub in the game is a guard????? Tapscott and the organization would rather work on developing Crittenton (who can’t shoot) than Magee a 7 footer!!!!!!! Guards come a dime a dozen (unless your tring to get a Cris Paul & Crittenton AIN’T NO Cris Paul plus we have Gil anyway) or if your going to develop a guard how about Nick Young.
If they want to develop Crittenton they should send him to the D-league. I would be satisfied with just playing James & Juan at the point. Not tring to kill the kid but, I don’t think he should be that high up on the Totem pole. We need to be thinking inside out!!!!

BIG MEN WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS……. Shaq, Duncan, Garnett not saying Magee is in that class but you never know? Even developing Pech, he can shoot but needs to work on everything else. I’m glad to see Blatche is finally getting some run. The year the Pistons won the title they didn’t have the classic big man in the middle but, they had 2 very good big men (the Wallace boys) to help each other out. Blatche & Magee should be playing beside one another if not starting, we should see that combo at some point in every game.

This may be the problem our priorities are all screwed-up. If our managment doesn’t know how to build a championship team we need to get someone in here who does or copy the model of a championship organization. I consider myself a die-hard Wizards fan so watching them this year is hard to stomach. You can hear the fustration in everyone who blogs. For the talent we do have, I don’t feel we’re using our guys properly. After Tap got kicked out Ayers took over and we started playing better. Maybe Ayers coaches better or the players were just happy to see Tap go??????????We need a coach who knows how to develop big men & will teach our team how to execute off. & def. & won’t settle for less.

I think we should make an all out effort to win games and not TANK for the rest of the season. We need to learn how to win games so we don’t end up in this same situation next year. Besides I don’t think there’s a player in the upcoming draft that would make us a championship contender anyway. We’ve gotta get Gil & Haywood back at 100% & add a player here & there in the hopes that we can get everyone on the same page. A knowledgable coach, 3 ALLSTARS, a good committee of centers & a group of quality role players should = success. (sounds like I just described the Celtics) It worked for them.

Go Wiz!!!!!

I’m gonna repost this tomorrow & maybe until the Wiz get the message.

I guess you can’t always believe what you read (see below)

Posted at 6:58 PM ET, 01/ 9/2009
Wizards (7-27) at Bulls (15-20)
Wizards starters: Mike James, Caron Butler, Dominic McGuire, Antawn Jamison, Andray Blatche

Bulls: Derrick Rose, Ben Gordon, Thabo Sefolosha, Tyrus Thomas, Aaron Gray.

Refs: Bob Delaney, Violet Palmer, Curtis Blair.

Line: Bulls by 5.

Notables: Interim coach Ed Tapscott likes to break the season into seven game segments and one of those just came to an end with so tonight, he said he will likely shake up the rotation slightly. Look for some minutes for JaVale McGee and Juan Dixon. Chicago won the first meeting between the teams 117-110 on Dec. 6 United Center…Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng and Michael Ruffin are out for the Bulls…

Tapscott on what he wants from McGee, who has not seen the floor since the game at Boston last Friday: “Take good shots. I don’t want him to feel like he can’t shoot, just take good shots. Play the game intelligently and play the game with passion. Do that, and we’ll be fine.”

I set the DVR to record the game and went out to a dinner party. When I got back and turned on the TV, Steve and Phil were on camera smiling and talking about Nick’s 18 point quarter. No score was visible, and I thought “oh, we finally played well and got a win.”

So I watched the game. With a judicious use of fast forward, I can get through an NBA game in about 40 minutes, and I kept waiting for the moment when we surged and took the game.

Of course, it didn’t come — silly me, what was I thinking?

I think we can now add to Ed Tapscott accomplishments as an NBA head coach that he has coached Caron Butler into complete ineffectiveness. He’s also completely worn out Antawn Jamison. Well done, Tap!

Yes, it was nice to see a game like that from Nick; very entertaining to watch him. And Pecherov did have a good 5 minutes too. But both those things happened after the game was lost. I.e. in garbage time. Once we tightened the score just a little, the Bulls went back to playing organized basketball, and that was that.

We are a *terrible* team, alas. It’s painful to watch us.
