6:24 AM EST….yeah that’s 5:24 CST…Dave Johnson checking in for the start of this “relaxing ” trip….The schedule maker must have been in a bad mood…Houston and New Orleans back-to-back will be a challenge but this season has not been a pleasure cruise anyway….what we have seen this season is a team that has played hard despite the results—of course there have been a couple of exceptions to that–but the effort has been there….the execution and shot selection has hurt us in too many games..Ivan Carter of the Washington Post talked about the professionalism of this team when he did some radio with me on Saturday..Juan Dixon and Etan Thomas are great examples of that…they were out of the rotation but stayed ready and played well Saturday….By the way my thanks to Ivan for spending a couple of quarters behind the mic Saturday…Glenn Consor is still fighting an illness and hopefully will be back by the end of the week…So tonight I will be flying solo again on the BLOG and post-game show…Caron Butler who did not play Saturday because of a sprained left ankle did not practice yesterday but it is possible he could play tonight…I will update you after shoot-around….BLOGCAST–radio and blogging together like it should be–starts at 8:30 tonight…..on the dial it is ESPN 980 AM in Washington…94.3 FM in Warrenton and Northern Virginia….92.7 FM in Southern Maryland…1370 AM in Baltimore….online there will be a LISTEN LIVE link….

7:38 PM….Caron Butler is still a game time decision ..Ed Tapscott tells me they well give Yao a lot of different looks….in fact four guys Andray, Etan, JaVale, and Darius at times will be used on Yao

I C aka Ivan Carter what is your assessment of our frontcourt of Mike J and Nick Young! I feel they both fall in love with there jump shots and refuse to attack the basket for AND ONES. I know they are both 80%freethrow shooters and that’s only going to help later on in the final stages of the game! What is your confidence level in Andray Blatche doing another double double against a defensive team like Houston! I also like your opinion on Etan Thomas can he play the roll of being a rebounding machine or just Etan! I would like your honest opinion please!

I’m glad we finally got a win, I feel a lot better knowing we’re not the worst team in the league. I would like to see Deshawn’s minutes reduced to about 20 and Dixon to get more minutes, he brings an urgency to the team that I’ve only seen in Caron. Mike James has been an excellent facilitator since his arrival and love the ball movement since he’s been here. As a team the Wizards need to attack the basket more and stop shooting so many 3’s. I’ve seen too many times we take to many 3’s (which we don’t make) and do not get back on defense which ends up as a dunk or lay up by the other team. So instead of getting closer by hitting the 3 we end up creating a -5 point differential. In turn causes to get my blood pressure up because by this time I’m cursing like a sailor at the tv. (Sorry to vent but the Cavs game was the FINAL STRAW). Thanks everyone for letting me vent but I am a long time fan and do NOT want to go back to our years of only 20 win seasons.

Hey Dave any chance McGee will get more minutes tonight to matchup on Yao? The Rockets have a lot of depth in their front court and with Yao’s size I think it would make sense to give McGee some more minutes tonight

Did anyone happen to notice who the Wiz had out on the floor in the fourth quarter of the last game when they pulled away from the Thunder (usually teams pull away from us in the fourth quarter)?
Ans: Etan, Andray, Dominic, Juan and Mike (shot blocking, rebounding, defense and shot making). No Caron, Antawn, no Deshawn. The ball moved, open shots were taken AND made, which opened up drives to the basket. With three shot blockers in the game for the Wiz, the Thunder just fired away from deep, with no offensive rebounds. That’s a recipe for a win. Very instructive.
One more point: Antawn is a deadly mid-range shooter. He is doing opponents a favor by shooting from three point range. He is not a natural three point shooter.
Let’s go Wiz and make it two in a row tonight! Let’s see more of Javaris and less of Deshawn also. Let’s give this guy a chance.

Reuben I totally agree with you! Young and McGee should have more playing time! Young was averaging around 12-13 ppg and about 2 rebounds and assists before Tapscott took over, and McGee was scoring in double figures, grabbing a lot of boards, and was a more effective shot blocker

Good point chenierfan. I don’t think we can expect Dixon to be so accurate on a regular basis, but who knows? I would normally like Young in with the other four, but yours may be a better idea. Dixon is certainly tough and experienced in clutch situations.

Well, we’d all like to see more of McGee, but who are you going to take minutes away from? Both Blatche and Thomas are playing very well. McGee’s a rookie. Hopefully, he’ll learn and gain confidence just by having been in the league. And don’t forget, the odds are Thomas will be injured before the season ends and McGee will end up with big minutes.
Things will be even more interesting next year when Haywood comes back. Then we’ll have 7 bigs all wanting time at two positions.

Neal I don’t know where you get the idea that Etan is playing well this season, but he has been far from that. He’s averaging career lows in almost every category, and hasn’t really proven himself as a threat on defense…Mcgee does however. Mcgee’s stats also almost double Etans in points and rebounds, but McGee does average 4 more minutes than Etan so you could factor that I guess

Allright we must be ready for adjustments that Rockets will make at half. Rockets will try to limit their turnovers so we must keep up our intensity on D. Rockets will try to pass more they have less assists than us so we must stay with our man. In other words De-fense.

I like the way AB missed two jumpers early on and then took it to the rim, that was a real sign of his maturity this season.
Given the opportunity, I would like to see JCritt get a little more time, to see more of his skills. He seems kind of fast, would like to get him more touches to open it up…if it’s in the cards. Other than that, I’m pretty much satisfied with the job everyone is doing. The key is not making the same mistakes….LUV IT!!

Glad I watched this one, but I thought they had lost composure at the end and would lose.
Jamison was terrific. And I love this kid McGuire. And James. I sure hope James doesn’t make anybody mad, as he must have at some other teams.
Finally saw Crittenton. He made four successful passes and no mistakes. Works for me.
Thomas is playing well but he has to be alert to when he has to rotate. He also has to learn to handle those short passes in the paint. Haywood eventually learned to handle those, Etan can too. Otherwise, let’s see McGee.
Young is still playing like a rookie.
Is it just me or does Blatche look a little tired at times?

i’m curious about something..
in the past, whenever we were missing both arenas AND butler, our record was atrocious. this year, we’re 2-0 without arenas and butler… anyone else besides me notice that?
also, Phemy, are you gonna have a link for tomorrow’s game, it’s on the CW again like the chicago game and i don’t think my area will get the game

Well, I’d like to see him [AB] come here (to play) since Wiz fans seem to hate on him sometimes; the Bucks ARE looking for a PF with defense alongside Luc Richard Mbah a Moute…oh yeah, and send Caron and Gil too since the Wiz don’t need them either…

Good Point TagFlip. Good old channel 50…. polar bear in a snow storm I think it just so happens that Taps is now starting to play the productive players (Dominic) and some of the players he is playing are starting to really become productive (Blatche, James). Caron’s ankle right now seems to just be a fluke as far as us winning goes.

Great Win for 2 in a row. We get to see our old buddy Antonio tomorrow. Well not actually see him (channel 50 and all lol) but I’m sure Dave will keep us informed as to what’s happening out there

I did, I had to give praise Coach Tap for his rotations tonight, And for Deshawn and his swag, DMAC in the starting line up, and Twan for being our MVP. Blatche and DMAC are stat stuffers man, DMAC scored 0 pts but had an impact on the game without scoring,wow. Blatche looks like a different player, really mature. And Coach made sure everyone got some run, still want to see McGee and Dixon get more minutes, but we won so zero complaints from me!

The guys are starting to get to know each other. I think that’s what it boils down to. Mike and Javaris got here before even they knew it…. and the team had to adjust to losing Antonio and Dee.
JaVale is one of my favorite players, but, before he becomes a real threat he needs to put on about 30 pounds of weight/muscle. The other teams post players swat him away like a fly right now.
Wouldn’t you love to give a Dominic/Darius/Andray/Antawn coupled infusion of “HEART” to everyone? Wow…. this could really get interesting.

Let’s hope we can finish out 2008 on a winning note. We have the Hornets tomorrow night (or should I say later on today since we are now on Tuesday). Let’s hope Dray can handle Tyson Chandler and NY or MJ can handle CP3. Looking forward to seeing AD again, I miss that guy on our bench but the NBA is a business.. See you all tomorrow night!!

What a terrific win, and what a fun game to watch! Game balls to Etan and Juan for incredibly solid minutes, of course, but really it was an all around good performance.
Playing the way he is, I don’t see how you can take Dominic out of the starting lineup. His intensity, discipline and athleticism have really transformed the team. I guess that means Caron moves to the 2 for much of the game. That reduces DeShawn’s minutes, so in effect you are trading his minutes away to get Dominic’s minutes. That’s a good thing.
I hope at least *some of you* will remember that I said in November that as soon as we put Dominic in the starting lineup, we win some games. (at least I think I said that)

Very good game last night. I hope we can pull another one out of the hat tonight. One question if Butler is out why is Pecherov still inactive? Tom I don’t remember you saying anything about putting D-Mac in the starting line. I think you said someting about if he gets more playing time we will get more wins. D-Mac is the kind of player that can get a double-double without scoring a point. My hopes is for D-Mac to make NBA’s of 5×5. 5 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assist, 5 steals, and 5 blocks. That hard, but a goal.

im disgusted with the way people talk about deshawn on here. firstly there is no way u can truely say mcguire is a better player than deshawn. offensively putting dominic in over deshawn…. deshawn scores more and is a better shooter. but it helps because caron moves to the two which means the Scoring Guard SG actually scores more, and the moves dominic to the 3 but he does not score at all. so stop talking trash about deshawn. and someone was like i dont understand why deshawn is in this late. WOW what planet are u on??? he only started a couple hundred games…… straight! so its not like he is not use to playing! dominic brings rebounding and thats it. now all ur gonna do is run deshawn out of town and he is gonna shine just like mason is doing! ur a bunch of bandwagon fans. he makes a shot n ur happy. when he misses ur like off with his head! last year he was balling.. u aint mind when he hit the game winning shot at new orleans. and he definitely carried the wiz along with twan, caron, and haywood. but ne way this blog aint for people like me, the wizards dont owe me anything, i just wanna see em play

gee wiz…. deshawn has been bad for years i aint a bandwagon fan, followed and loved the wiz since i was born… no reason to cheer for someone who has played awful for the past 2 years though that is the nature of sports… edgerrin james was good for years but when he started sucking he was benched, simple as that
