Christmas In Cleveland
8:38….Dave Johnson checking in on Christmas day.My wife and son met me here in Cleveland and we cleberated a little this morning….My wife surprised me with an AC/DC t-shirt….anyway we had a good practice yesterday in Charlotte before we flew to Cleveland which is worth noting because Tuesday night was a game to forget…..My sincere thanks to all the bloggers for their passion and interest in Wizards basketball….It’s been a tough season but we have a lot to be thankful for including the freedom and ability to share friendship and enjoy basketball on this BLOG…..Christmas BLOGCAST starts at 8…radio and BLOG together….ESPN 980 AM in Washington…94.3 FM in Warrenton and Northern Virginia .. 92.7 FM in Southern Maryland and 1370 AM in Baltimore… and there is a LISTEN LIVE link…

Ho ho ho, how y’all doing on this christmas day (too bad we don’t get a snowy christmas this year…) Anyway I definitely believe we can get this one (and that’s when everybody starts thinking “god that poor guy’s crazy” but no I’m not!!!) we got the spirit of christmas on our side, as y’all know it’s always the good ones who win in the christmas stories and I believe we don’t have to prove that we’re the good ones when facing the travelers!! DJ happy holidays to you and your family. Like other Wiz fans and bloggers winning tonight on national TV would be great. I would love for that to happen. Just to see Charles and Kenny trying to figure that one out would be super.
DJ why is it that none of the Wiz meaning Nick or Javale can get an opportunity to participate in the NBA all-star slam dunk competition. Is that because of our record or is it the politics?
Newspaper articles are saying there is no rivalry with the Cavs anymore. But if we win on their undefeated floor tonight that will be enough to rekindle it. This would be a great game to have the starters play well but also to see DS come off the bench and hit some big shots.
I think our key is not trying to stop King James but to not let to his supporting cast have big games.
We definitely will not be able to run with them but if we can create our own tempo and not get blown out in 1-3 quarters. Just like football on any given game day a team can be defeated.
So Wiz let’s go and give it your best effort tonight.

If we do wind up in the lottery top five picks here is my wish list for the Wizards.
1. Blake Thompson- I like his work ethic and production as a player. This would also would mean I would trade AB.
2. Brandon Jennings- Even though he is a combo type. I would love his speed in the lineup and ability to create havoc for other point guards having to check. Not taking anything from Dee Brown this small guy is the real deal.
We could move Gil to the SG with Brandon in the lineup.
3. James Harden- Even though Gil say’s Nick has a a Kobe like skill set. James Harden reminds me of a DWade type who automatically makes everyone around him better. He could come in and start right away.
4.Hasheem Thabeet- this kid is about 7’5′ with an NBA body already. He is a Dikembe type. This means you could slide Javale over to the PF. I think Javale has the athleticism to do it. Look at Tim Duncan.
5.Ricky Rubio- A now generation Pete Maravich type.
He definitely needs to get stronger. But you can’t deny his skill set. Especially as a pass first point guard.
Then again anyone of these players could be part of a draft day trade to bring us some real veteran help.
Has anybody heard when we could get Gil or BH back?
Also what is the knock against Pecherov?
This guy is 7 ft tall and get’s no playing time.
DJ or Wizfan4life why is this guy not playing? Last year they said he was hurt. Is it because of Javales’s arrival and our hope that AB will blossom?

It would be great to get a win.I drove 3 hours to the charlotte game.I live in sc and I was very dissapointed about the loss because it was alot closer than the scoreboard showed.I dont get alot of games on tv in my area so I always go to atlanta or nc to see the wiz when they play and it takes me 3 hours to get to nc and 4 to get to atl…..

as for the question about Pecherov…he had a really good practice yesterday…but he is not doing enough to crack the top 10 or obviolsuly the top 12 right now….it is frustrating for him no doubt.. and I know it is tough on ed tapscott as he said to me a couple of games a ago …it’s tough to disappoint a player like pecherov….i don’t think it is anything specific ( with young guys it is always defense it seems0 but he just has not been able to do enough

I looked for Dee during the Spurs/Suns game but never did see him. I wonder if he was allowed to spend Christmas with his “Moms” and will hit it hard after the holidays!! Dom really had a nice stroke in the Summer, would love to see that in game action, teams are really giving him that shot, if he can get his shot to drop, it should help set up his drive to the basket.

cleveland’s offense is much improved from the past and if west hits they are a tough team to guard with lebron, z and mo williams. sometimes u gotta pick your poison and give the shooter some credit.

dave i know that pech isnt hasnt been doin enough to crack the rotation but when do you think he will get a shot? i mean we are 4-22 are we not? we should at least give him a shot, even if its just to “shake things up” as thats the excuse that we have been given about all the decisions made thus far. i mean some guys are just better gamers than practice players and just need a shot to prove themselves.. i mean it wasnt too long ago that roger mason was on the same spot with this team… but then again so was donnel taylor… 1/2 and bad lol

That was Tim Donaghy type refereeing… that was actually the most pitiful job of trying to cover up trying to let Lebron and the Cavs win… I know we are 4-22 (coming into the game) and we won’t make the playoffs, but that doesn’t mean you let the Cavs win so that they can extend their undefeated record at home this year. If I were Jamison or Caron I would have punched the ref in the face that was a disgrace to the officiating in professional sports. We did not make plays as a team down the stretch like usual, but the refereeing was a MAJOR component in that failure. We played our hearts out and should not be ashamed by our effort. If there was ever such a thing as a moral victory, this was it.

slwiz-again I am concerned about the minutes and rotations, however the starters played well, still want to see more out of bench guys so we are fresh in the 4th (7th straight game avg 18 pts in the 4th) I hope that the NBA takes a look at this game from the late game officiating efforts

Slwiz… Lebron pulled up for a three with about a minute and a half left when we were up 7 and caron BARELY touched him after his release, if that at all, and then after the ref saw that the shot did not go in, he blew the whistle and called the foul… after he made the free throws and mo hit the three I knew they were out for us

shapiro1991 thanks for that info; my Dad always said it’s tough to beat “7 men” and sounds like some of those calls could have gone differently!! It just makes me sure that we can close out the 4th. We are almost there.
Jeff, yeah the fatuigue issues are worrisome but tonight they seemed to have enough “fuel”. I think the rotations did address that; enough that they had enough. I couldn’t see them so I could be wrong.
And yes I’d like to see more bench minutes and points. Again, I think it’s coming; he seems to be focusing on the starters first. And does the NBA look at game officiating? I thought that Sterns believed in his refs and stayed by their decisions?

I saw the second half. They played pretty well, but too many mental mistakes. In the end they played like a team that’s afraid something bad will happen in the end. So it does – they choke. I don’t think they’ll win many close games.
I still think they have enough talent to be competitive.
Blatche is becoming an NBA player.
Mike James looks good. I hope whatever made 8 other teams get rid of him is behind him. I would like for him to fit in here.

As much as it hurts I have never been as proud of the Wiz as I was tonight. I love the effort from our guy’s tonight. I am really proud of Dominic. Mike James showed us tonight why he was worth being traded for.
If we can somehow learn to switch off and rotate better on our perimeter defense we can turn this thing around.
Giving up all these open 3′s is killin us.
But still I am proud that we made a game of it on national tv.

So true.. I think that the refs do not intend on fixing the games towards the Cavs, but are rather intimidated by Lebron James’ crying and complaining that influences their spur of the moment decisions to always give him every call because they feel that if they make the celebrity angry, more people will get mad at them (the referee)

You guys ever tried to picture Hell in your mind?? Believe me the quicken loans arena was not far from hell. Being the only wizards fan (there was actually one other boy with his father wearing an arenas t-shirt but he was in a 500$ private box so not the same thing as being in the middle of 26’000 stupid cavs fans…) I had quite a hard time. Anyway this was once again the proof that the Wizards always play just one level under their opponent, wheter we’re playing LA, Cleveland or Charlote we play just under their level, that’s amazing isn’t it. Anyway trust me I almost cried… After almost getting into a fight (someone said I was too enthousiastic, sorry but leading by 6 with a couple minutes left deserve celebration) I almost shed a couple tears as we lost by a couple points to a team lead by world’s firstclass crybaby (trust me seeing him for real is way worst than it seems)…. Gotta get some sleep, don’t wanna miss my plane tomorrow morning to head back to DC!! One last thing: shoutout to my man Mike James, he really brought it tonight and a last quick note, apart from me there is one man you didn’t want to be tonight: yes I’m talking about the guy who can’t feel his face, boy they were getting at him… (even played the blow the… diss song before the game, but as most cavaliers’ fans were too young or stupid to remember the last playoffs they didn’t react…) Good Night everybody and my wizards if anyone of you read that, you’d better blow OKC on saturday, at least 30 points with 2 or 3 dunks like the one Caron had tonight (boy that got me outta my seat!!!) , see y’all

All I can say is good effort! That was a good game. It had me going until the last couple of minutes where we all the sudden got stupid calls by the refs. Other than that, we should have won. Win or no win, this one was the breakout game we’ve been waiting for.
It just goes to show that we are more than capable of facing one of the top teams in the NBA. We game the Cavs a scare and same with the Lakers too. We just need to keep our momentum going and we’ll be fine.

I rarely think the refs make a difference, but there’s no question that they did last night. It’s hard to believe a physical NBA team like the Cavs commits only 12 fouls in a hard fought game — but that’s all they got called for.
I only saw the last quarter, but I taped the whole thing and plan to watch it. As fans, we should be very proud of their effort. This year one game won/lost isn’t likely to matter at season’s end, so in that sense it doesn’t much matter. But, I do think the ticky tack foul Caron was called for on LeBron’s 3 pointer with a couple of minutes left in the game made the difference. That and DeShawn’s missed FTs; I feel for that guy.

Just in the minutes I watched, Dominic exhibited all the things that should make him our starter. His understanding of the game is terrific, and his physical tools are too. Believe me, he is going to learn to shoot — and then watch out.
Mike had a great night. He’s not a true point guard, and he committed 5 turnovers, but he definitely showed his offensive abilities at their streaky best.
I agree with neal that Andray is beginning to look like a real NBA player. He’s out of position at Center, but his effort is good, he is reasonably productive, and he stays out of foul trouble.

Antawn had an ok game shooting, but was below his usual production otherwise. And Caron had a bad game shooting. Obviously, teams are keying on those two guys.
Nick grabbed 3 rebounds and had 2 assists and a turnover in his 11 plus minutes. He needs to concentrate on rebounding, defense and passing for the rest of the season — doing the work he should have done in the off-season, and obviously didn’t do, to become a better *basketball player.*
Right now, teams understand that if you bother Nick’s dribble right away, he tends to do something that disrupts the offensive set and any flow. That’s *too easy*.

Okay, trying to move in a positive direction now. We played really well in so many ways!!!! This is a game we can build on! Like others, I am very proud of our team. And I feel really bad for Stevenson. Hang in there, buddy… we know that you are trying hard. Hopefully it clicks for him soon.
