Game Day Mavericks
8:30 AM Dave Johnson checking in…hopefully the BLOG will work tonight…Glenn and I were not able to post shortly after the game started….hey I have not been drinking too much holiday egg nog but the Wizards are only 7 games out of a playoff spot…I know 7 games is a lot but there is still a lot of time if we can figure out how to close games..that stat that show we have had 11 losses in which we had a fourth quarter lead hurts…win half of those games and it is a different season…have to value possessions..BLOGCAST starts at 6 PM……TONIGHT IN WASHINGTON IT IS 570 AM and in Baltimore 1370 AM and of course the rest of the Wizards Radio network from Cumberland to Richmond and Roanoke… and there will be a listen live link
5:39 PM…Dave and Glenn checking in….one key tonight..have to find a way to get shots for Antawn and Caron down the stretch…as noted they combined for only 5 shot attempts in the fourth quarter on Friday night…and in 4rth quarter last five games have averaged only 17 points
5:47 PM….starters are in…Mike James, DeShawn Stevenson, Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, and Andray Blatche…..Mavericks will go with Jason Kidd, Josh Howard, Devean George, Dirk Nowitzki, Erick Dampier

…yeah, let’s take a W against dallas. Not sure which one of the both team has the worse defence right now, so i’m expecting a scorefest ![]()
Let’s hope Dirk is cold and we are hot, then we should be good to go. Since my dad is a huge Nowitzki-fan (Germany~) I really hope we win tonight, got a little bet going with him ;>
GO WIZARDS, GO YOUNG FELLAS!

I’ve been trying to post here for some time. Just wanted to say “Go Wizards”– and anyone know of any TRUE schedule date for Gils return. I have been frustrated by this season. Basketball is my life and when the Wizards are doing bad, all else seems bad for me. I told myself before last game that I would not watch another game until they won 2 in a row, but it is so hard. I have a good feeling about tonites game. Anyone else thing Gil will return tonite or on Christmas??

I am encouraged McGee w\ 9 minutes in the 1st half, DMAC with 11 minutes, I really do not like Young 3 minutes, Juan 0 minutes, Blatche 8 minutes….And as it goes again Butler 20 minutes (on pace for 40) Jamison 18 (on pace for 36) James (on pace for 36) Tap played more people (except Dixon) however his line up substitutions are still not good, Mike James and CB3 and Jamison do not need 30 plus minutes, the bench needs to play minutes (the entire bench)

It is no knock on James and his scoring, not at all, I am looking at minutes at this pace in a close game, this game is looking previous contest, when the starters are logging too many minutes and it has killed this team in the 4th qtr. The only way we can correct that, would be to play the bench for extended minutes, I say it again the Wizards are in the top 10 in bench scoring, you have to use that. I always look at the assists total and minutes.

Stevenson only 11 mins. Thank You Tapscott! You may disagree with me about MJ, but the only reason we have one of the best benches is because we have one of the worst starters ppg. MJ plays 25+ mins we will win. MJ plays less we will lose!

End of the 3rd Butler 33 min, Jamison 30 min, James 28, I love the Wizards but I am really concerned about game management, we will see if the pattern plays out. I wonder about Young 8 minutes going into the 3rd, and Dixon who has been one of your consistent players this year DNP, worried guys

SportzWiz, Dave and Glenn-please explain how we can have one of top benches in the NBA, and yet ride the vets as much as we do? Our bench in a win vs the Pistons scored 59 since then it has been spot minutes, with Tap riding the vet’s and that has lead to less minutes, crazy! You cannot excpect these guys to play 40 minutes a night and win, when the other teams are keeping there starters fresh

Dave and Glenn 18 pts again why is that, why are we scoring less in the 4th over the last 5 now 6 games, the answer is glaring! We play our starters into the ground, there is zero balance in the rotation, how does Juan Dixon not play tonight? How is that Young did not see extended minutes? Why is it necessary to have CB3 and Jamison in the game (at least one) on the court at all times? How can we have the reciepe for a win with 59 pts from the bench then totally abandon that moving forward?

The lead is 5 with the ball for Dallas with 5:30 to play & they call a T.O…
Inbounds pick for Terry lead is seven.
Everyones favorite young gun D Mac gets the ball & spazz’s on O getting his shot blocked & then turning it over with a miserable pass to Tawn.
Dallas goes down & misses long, Caron on a run out 1 on 3 & gets the ball stolen from behind by Terry.
Dallas back on O, bucket.
Lead is now 9 & counting.
All that to say, we just clam up down the stretch. Butler presses to hard (he did knock down some late three’s) & everyone else goes into spazz mode.
Why was Stevenson in late? Dealbreaker or not, why was he in? Because Young hadn’t made a field goal? i like where DSS’s minutes are heading though…
D Song should have gotten more looks down the stretch (he was 5/5 tonight)

I know that I once said that I’d be watching regardless, but this is just starting to get kinda impossible. I get so sick of hearing announcers straight DOG the Wizards; today it was Eric Snow and Kenny Smith – but Kenny really blasted us…He called the Wizards HORRIBLE…and I couldn’t even get as mad as I’d usually get. Why watch when: 1) (I’m sorry, but) “Tap” and Wes just ain’t doing it whatsoever – (and that’s my ‘nicer’ way of saying that); 2) …What the hell is up with Stevenson? I remember a while ago when some bloggers were mad at me for blasting him, but that’s just to show that I was never really a fan of his in the first place. I was even a little nicer to him this season with him being in his “slump”…I’m just speechless….; 3) I love the HELL out of Caronimo, seriously. But at this point, even he don’t seem as personable as he usually would. He’s all mad…; 4) On the Wizards bench, I’m either seeing that “I’m mad” look, or that “I don’t care” look. Yeah, losing is hard but, wow! It’s true that the players feed off of the fans’ enthusiasm, but it’s not just a one-way type of thing. Fans feed off of the players too.
I’m kinda hoping that some of the players are either traded, whether requested or not, because I just feel that a lot of these players’ potentials are being contained because of a messed up system…

I just feel bad for Caron, AB, McGuire and Pech because their value as players could plummet. So much POTENTIAL in these four players, but people will never seem to see that because people already look at this team as a joke to the entire association…Even now for AD – now that he’s a Hornet, you sure hear his name coming out the announcers mouths sooo much more.
All I gotta say is: Good Luck Wizards; I can’t keep believing until y’all do…

Sorry, posted this to the previous blog.
Unless someone is crazy enough to again hire P.J. as a head coach, Tapscott is the reigning worst coach in the NBA.
Although AJ and CB are All-Stars, neither of them, nor obviously, both of them together, can carry a NBA team. They are great support staff, but they need an on-the-court leader who is ABLE to take charge and make a positive difference. We don’t have that player and until we see that player, only the coaching staff can help us win SOME games by choosing the right combinations to be on the court at any given time. However, it seems that everytime we get a clicking combination, Tapscott pulls the most productive player. Are EG and the coach trying to get a lottery pick? If so, please let us know and I’ll save the $ I usually spend on my seats until next year. Who might they think is worth it anyhow?
CB is simply pressing on both ends of the court. He is most successful when he is able to let the game come to him…when someone penetrates and kicks it back to him. Right now, he is trying to create his shot and he is less than successful doing that. He is still very weak on “D” and his defense consists of trying to steal the ball by playing the passing lane. Tonight’s loss is on Tapscott’s head, but the sorriest player on the court was CB.
AJ was, again, AJ!!! Thanks.
Blatche is a tempo player. When he’s going good, let him in there no matter how many fouls he might have early. He was going good and Tapscott pulled him in the 1st quarter because he had 2 fouls (1 was pure BS). He returned in the 3rd quarter…His mo was gone.
We were going great when big. Dallas went small, so we matched up. What a stupid coaching move. Opposing coaches must think “If things are going bad, changes players and the Wiz will match up and we can eliminate their advantage.”
In the nineties when the Bulls were in town and the stands were full of Jordan fans, I was cheering for the Wizards. Now I find myself rooting for the individual players and don’t care about the outcome. That is a sad thing for a longtime Wiz fan to say.
We need to see MORE of the young players: Slick Nick, MeGee, McGuire, Blatche, Critt on the court together. Hey, we’re 4-20, give it a shot.

Justget… if we keep saying that line up maybe someone will listen? They played Butler at the 2 a bit tonight and James at the one but that’s as close as it got. I don’t mind playing Deshawn I really don’t, but, not at the beginning and end of ball games. At least not until he gets his game back. The few minutes we got to see Crittenton tonight were very exciting. I’d like to see a little more of him if he is going to continue to attack and dish like that. He is pretty fast for a taller point guard. Mike James is making a believer out of me. Maybe the guy has finally found a home?
We have a lot of positives to build from. We aren’t going to be a playoff team this year, but, that doesn’t mean we can’t be an exciting one.
hopefully the term “interim” applys and we have a short list of coaches for next season.

starting lineup should be
james
young
butler
jamison
blatche
then we still have
crittenton
dixon
mcguire
songaila
mcgee
as the primary bench
and stevenson should not even be playing
1. his defense is not good at all. (mcguire is a much better defender, taller and more athletic)
2. he cant shoot at all. (a “slump” only applies to people who normally shoot well, not to someone who can’t shoot to begin with)
either trade stevenson

Guys I do not think I am the only one thinking that we are tired in the 4th qtr, take a look at this quote from Kidd:
From that point, Kidd took over, and he did it with Nowitzki sitting out the final six minutes of the game
“You try to wear them down,” Kidd said of the Wizards. “Those guys play a lot of minutes. They’re a talented group of guys and the ball just hasn’t bounced their way.”
Please see blog posts above relating to this issue, I even called into the Post game show tonight, I have nothing else to say, very sad

We let James Singleton and Erick Dampier beat us yesterday. They dominated. Dampier had 12 rebounds in less than 17 minutes. Singleton had 13 boards in 28 minutes.
The Mavs shot 5-30 from 3 point range — but they were 35-57 (over 60%) on the rest of their shots. Lots of inside 2d chance points and put-backs.
Asking Andray Blatche and Darius Songaila to man the center position in the NBA really doesn’t work. JaVale only got 12 minutes; he was reasonably productive. He should play 20-25 minutes a game. And, why didn’t Etan play yesterday, given that he might have been an effective match up for Singleton?

Dear Mr. Grunfeld,
We, the federal government, realize the plight your team is under this season. All of us on capitol hill also miss Mr. Arenas and Mr. Haywood this season.
You may notice that along with the 17 billion dollar bail out for GM and Chrysler there is a small adendum attached. There is to be a federal mandate to send Deshawn Stephenson to the LA Lakers in return for Kobe Bryant and to send Etan Thomas to the Orlando Magic in return for Dwight Howard.
We hope this helps.
The Federal Government

As usual, Dominic played well. I also liked Crittenton’s minutes, although he went 0-4 shooting the ball. In 9 minutes, he had a steal, an assist, and 3 boards — no fouls.
Nick was awful — teams have figured out that when the ball is in his hands he is usually going to shoot it no matter what. That makes it pretty easy to defend him.

Poor DeShawn — everyone wants to blame our troubles on him. But, yesterday he only played 15 minutes, you can’t blame him.
The idea that Ernie is going to trade DeShawn — mentioned above — is dreaming. Who is on the other end of that trade, and why do they want DeShawn? My nightmare is that we sweeten a trade like that by including Dominic McGuire, thus throwing away our best young talent.

I was looking back at previous seasons and see that our starters usually avg 35mpg.(usually) Thats having Haywood. Eddie Jordan did a fine job over the years with minutes. Until Gilbert went out and then Haywood. Tapscott has no clue what he is doing. I believe anyone that watches the Wiz play nightly can do a better job. Why not let Gilbert coach until he decides he is ready to return. **How many times did we go to the line tonight? When we were winning we went there alot. ALOT. That opened up the 3 too..for non shooters(made them look nice-stevenson). Ill coach them. Give me 70000 dollars for one year for my gf and I to live off of and ill coach. Give me one game and if we lose Ill forfeit all monies. 240-527-9919 ask for JR. Make sure anyone from the Wiz organization to give this number to EG. It does take knowledge of the game, but it also takes knowing your players!
