Yeah this news hit me like a brick in the stomach yesterday when I saw it flash up on ESPN news. I think this is kind of crazy - I mean that Eddie was the Eastern Conference All-Star Coach a couple seasons ago. After like a decade and half draught he gets the team to the playoffs 4 times. There are business decisions and there are good business decisions. When someone with a proven record falters you don’t fire them. And if you do you do so in between seasons: (1) You give Eddie the respect he deserves by giving him time to finding another team (2) you give your new coach time to get his system in place, (3) your marketing and ticket sales are tied to a team with a coach and a system in place. This was not a good decision. Good to exceptional coaches like Johnson, Saunders or Van Gundy will take months to put their system in place. Only really a guy like D'Antoni with a fluid offensive system would work midseason – and points hasn’t been the problem. Its defense and that takes time.

I think this all started to turn on Eddie when he didn’t make the Tom T. situation work. I think since then Ernie has just been waiting for Eddie falter – like if you don’t get us out of the first round you’re on the hot seat. I think that is who Ernie wants and I think that is who we’ll get with a whole lot of other roster changes. I will be at the arena cheering for a playoff berth but I think it is likely another 2 years out. The one upside is nosebleed tickets will be $10 again.

Thanks Eddie Jordan for putting a system and a leading a team that has been the best team since the title team. I’ll be rooting for you when you land in Phoenix or Chicago next year.

So when do we STOP firing coaches for the incredibly bad moves made by ownership. Face it Ernie made a stupid move paying Gilbert(ball hawk, no teamplay, injured before leaving Golden State) Arenas 100 mill. Dumb! Dumb! Dumb! He has no business sence as well, just look at how The greatest to ever play the game was handeled here in Washington. In fact last year they looked better in the playoffs WITHOUT Gilbert. Stop trying to fill the seats with names and pay attention to your players put the right ones on the floor and they will win and we will pack the house. Gilbert is like Stephan Maubry- great player one on one , but a real cancer to a team. The front office of this franchise don't have a clue. Just look at George Mason - now with the spurs puttin up numbers, and Gilbert , collecting a check- Jokes on Ernie!!!!!

Okay, I am back...I have had some time to digest this whole thing. I have read posts one here and on the Post's website.

Count me in the portion of the population that is a little sad to see EJ go, but thinks this move will ultimately benefit the team.

There is NO WAY I am giving up on a season just 11 games in. I am also not going to grade the Gil re-signing until I see him when he comes back. I agree that the Wiz need a coach with a defensive mindset. We should get to see what Ayers is made of now.

I, too, am interested to see who they hire as their full-time coach. I wonder if they will bring someone in this season, since it is so early. I, for one, would LOVE to see Avery Johnson in DC. He is not so much of a "players coach" as EJ.

I have been lamenting for while, like others, about Eddie's rotations. Most recently, I was in favor of starting JaVale.

i think this is a good move. this is a talented team that should not be losing like this. 1-10? EG had to do something. To bad they could not convince Van Gundy to take the job. He might actually have them playing defense by the time Gilbert returns.

oh wow.

..but I'm with jhough813, couldn't have said it better.
Wasn't expecting this move, not yet..since there was always "hope" in the games. But well, let's see how this works out.

GO WIZ anyways.

I don't even know what to say about this. On one hand I love Eddie Jordan and can't thank him enough for doing as much as he did for our team over the last 6 years. On the other, this season has been so hard as a fan because I know that we are infinitely better than our record. There have been so many disappointments such as Gil and Brendan's injuries, Blatche's seemingly halted development, and not being able to close out games in general. Here's hoping we turn this season around.
