Game Day Heat
4:57 AM Dave Johnson getting an early start. I am energized after catching an AC/DC concert this weekend and believe it is time for the Wizards to get Back and Black and leave the Heat Thunderstruck. Hard rock song references out of the way it is no secret what the Wizards have to do. Eddie Jordan spelled it out yesterday. He wants his team to be more aggressive on the inside and protect the paint and the rim and of course win the battle of the boards. On offense he wants better screens set. There need to be better spacing and the forwards have to be involved. Glenn Consor noted in the last broadcast that the Wizards offense was starting too high late in the shot clock and many times the result was a hopeful jump shot. BLOGCAST starts tonight at 7….grab some friends to join the party…you connect with us court side while we blab away on the radio…there will be a LISTEN LIVE link at the top of the page…on radio in Washington on ESPN 980…in Northern Virginia 94.3 FM ..Southern Maryland 92.7 FM and in Baltimore on 1370 AM..check back later
6:15 PM Dave and Glenn checking in at Verizon Center…No Antonio Daniels…so Juan Dixon starts again
6:45 PM starters are in…Juan Dixon, DeShawn Stevenson, Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, Etan Thomas….Heat Mario Chalmers, Dwyane Wade, Shawn Marion, Michael Beasley, Udonis Haslem

dj — What happened man; did the doggy get you up early this morning for a walk? LOL Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and excitement. Where there is a will there is a way!!
the above blogger believes the team functions better without Etan starting; we don’t know who Eddie will start, usually he gives the starting line-up about an hour before game time; is that correct sportzwiz/dj?

Hello everyone…
I don’t blog often, but I read this blog EVERYDAY! It is so entertaining, even through the losses…which I pray we can right that ship soon…I heard that D. Wade hurt is ankle on Sunday, but he intends on playing tonight. I hope that ankle slows him down a bit. Hopefully, we can get in a rhythm that’s going to generate some wins for us!
GO WIZ!

hey everyone.
I haven’t been posting a lot but I read the blog often. Best place to find latest on our beloved often injured wizards.
Wade is also my favourite non-wiz. Somehow I don’t hate him after he scores 30+ on us.
As for tonights game I hope we use our size to our advantage. Most of all we need to move the ball on offense. I found it frustrating the way we didn’t do it last time.
Lets make it 2-6
Comment from suzie-qwiz
Time November 18, 2008 at 6:40 PM
I really think Blatch should start the game, I think he plays better and with more confidence when he is in the game from the start. I also hope we use the size and energy that we get from McGee and McGuire. M&M’s,( hey I like that). I just hope we get the effort we know this team is capable of.
Comment from GrifonRacing

Good Point Suzie-qwiz. Last year when Andray started he had the best stats of his career. It might not be the worst idea to start him at some point if not tonight.

Wizards4Life, I actually am, and think he should start, but the problem with that is that Thomas would come off the bench.
I saw highlights of him before we drafted him and thought we should take interest in him, so when he was drafted i was pleased, and didnt think he would be where he is right now.
Also, what is Blatche in the doghouse or something.

this is absolutely embarassing, we were getting dominated even when wade was out of the game, how in god’s name does this team every single year have no clue how to guard the perimeter?? I’m sorry, I won’t try and sugarcoat this, they had 3 days to prepare for a team that they just played and this is the peformance we get????? COME ON, I’m sorry I know people love Nick Young and Andray Blatche, but they both suck bad. Every team has injuries, we just have god awful reserves and that is a credit to continously drafting terrible players.

tough loss tonight. but we couldn’t hold onto the ball down the stretch, altho the refs certainly didn’t help out cause on that phantom foul by haslem on mcgee. oh well. we’ll get em in ATL tomorrow.

I really wish our guys would learn how to play man to man instead of trying to help everyone else out and leaving their guy open. It’s no wonder that teams shoot such a high percentage when more than half of their shots are uncontested. PLEASE HURRY BACK BRENDAN!

LOL Nick Young does not suck bad, and Blatche continues with his out of control bonehead plays and Nick had 2 tonight. You cant just say NY sucks bad because of a couple of stupid turnovers

wizards4life…….I know what I’m talking about. I have watched almost every wizards game for a long time. I sat through the tough years of being a 20 win team, and this team looks just like that. Eddie Jordan has been a bad coach for years now. The Princeton offense needs to go, it doesn’t work anymore. He has NO CLUE how to call plays down the stretch. Out of timeout’s all you see is people standing around and someone forcing a shot at the last second. We are the laziest team year in and year out in guarding the perimter. This is solely on the coaching staff. Gilbert Arenas had some magical years, where he single handidly won us games, it had nothing to do with Eddie Jordan’s coaching.
I COULD CARE LESS IF WE MADE THE PLAYOFFS LAST YEAR. I hate when people use that as a reason for EJ being such a great coach. Outside Boston, Detroit, and Cleveland, the eastern conference was an absolute joke last year. This year, most teams have improved where we all we did is sign dixon and dee brown. We spend all our money on a guy who’s career may be over(as much as it pains me to say that, it may be true). Pechorov would suck in the D League and so would Andray Blatche. Songalia is absolute garbage, right now I am just sorely embarassed to be a fan.
We need to go in a new direction, I can’t stand watching an Eddie Jordan coached team anymore. A 1-7 start on a pretty soft schedule is a joke.

I was just analyzing the game tonight, for the most part. A lot of the problems seem to be basic fundamentals of basketball. Some things are the same as said before, so I won’t preach to the choir. If McGee isn’t starting, why not start Songalia. The guys play better team ball with him on the floor. AND NY…..WTH is on his mind……he shouldn’t be bringing the ball up the court and needs to go get his focus back (I.E. Basic fundamentals)…
Nice to see Butler take over towards the end of the game….as a leader should. Time for them to get in NYs face and demand some type of control discipline…NY is not Gilbert and someone needs to tell him that.

just really down after another lost. its really starting to take its toll on me. but im gonna continue to root these guys on.
just dont really like the defensive scheme. i understand helping out playing d on wade but helping out on other players that was not dwade and leaving others open for the three was killing me. we did really well the last few minutes of the game but i thought the defensive pressure came a lil too late.
the heat gained their big lead with the small lineup in for us again. darius is not a center and in my opinion should stay as a forward. javale came in and things changed. the tempo and rebounding.
i agree we did get robbed at the end with the no call. it would’ve probably not change the ending since really what cost us the game was costly mistakes. but it wouldve have been nice with mcgee having a chance to cut the deficit to three.
tomorrow we play a good hawks team that is a pretty athletic team. an attribute that seems to kill out team. i really hope the wizrds come out tomorrow with a sense of urgency and alot more energy.

All in all, the team can win these games…they are at the top of the hump, and just about over the hump. BUT that starting line-up has to be scrapped. I heard stephenson is not 100%, you mean to tell me that he is better than anyone on the bench at less than a 100%, that he should continue starting. Seeing the same old thing night in and night out is a bit tiresome. Now i’m listening to Eddie talk about this team is built for Gilbert Arenas. WHAT A BS EXCUSE…if that’s the case, change it for what you have available to you….I think Eddie REALLY doesn’t know what to do….Poor wizards.

Was the game really as close as the final score?? No, they just stopped hitting their threes….It was kind of a pick your poison. The wiz will get it together, one way or another.

yea i heard stevenson is not 100%. honestly i think he should rest or have limited minutes until hes 100% because hes slowing us down. dont get me wrong im a stevenson fan. this guy could make alot of threes every game. but not playing 100% is affecting his shot. i didnt really like the fact that he was put in at the last minute. dixon should played the last minute.

I just left the game and it was a sad sight! One thing that really gets to me is how quiet the Phonebooth is during the game. Even if the Wiz don’t give us nothing to cheer about, we need to lift them up some kind of way. In the past two weeks i have been to a Redskins, Caps, and hoyas game and at every game the crowd was electric. And the team feeds off of it. But at the Wizards games, it is silent except in the nose bleed section. We need to stick behind our squad. People still cheer for the redskins when they SUCK! why can’t they do it for the Wiz!? I’m tired of being the only person losing his voice in my section. The only thing that made me happy tonight was having Serena Williams sit right in front of me.

Now that i got that out about the fans, i’m goin on the team! We need help, bad! You can look in Eddie’s face and see that he doesn’t believe in the product that he has on the floor. I know we have injuries but that’s no excuse. Yea, i was the one who use to tell people if you take the top player off of any team, they will struggle too, just like Miami last year. but this is bad. But i try to look at everything in a positive sense. At least we were in the game at the end this time as opposed to the last game. Maybe this year we are meant to be in the lottery to draft Blake Griffin or somebody like that. Who knows. I’m gonna stop typing now because i’m not really saying what i really want to say. I don’t even know what i want to say, i’m so pissed right now! I’m out.

Having not missed a Wizards game in six years (in person, TV, or radio), I can say with some degree of certainty: Same old, Same old.
The most pathetic part of tonight’s nonsense was EJ’s post game interview where he said that this team was built to accommodate Gilbert Arenas and Antwan and Caron and (essentially) until Gilbert gets back we should not expect much more than we are getting. I guess the long layoff gave EJ sufficient time to draft a response to an anticipated loss to the Magic that might reflect the blame from him. IS HE KIDDING! The most important thing that Gil adds to this offense is the fact that he ignores it.
Once again, with the exception of a couple of backdoor cuts and a few alley-oop attempts, the Wizards offense is still throw a few passes and whoever has the ball with under 6 seconds on the shot clock is on his own to create something. I can understand the frustration that CB, AJ, DS, JD and also Slick and AB must feel. It’s only a matter of time until McGee starts to feel it.
Only Juan and Darius showed any element of hard-nose defense tonight. Everone else runs around hoping that their athleticism will make up for being out of position, or that they can make a spectacular steal. Playing a “Collapse and Recover” defense against a team that can shoot like the Magic (and most NBA teams) is suicide…Maybe EJ is really a kamikaze and is willing to take the team down with him. As a fan who pays top dollar for seats to home games, I’m not willing to continue to support that type of coaching.
With about three exceptions, the rotations tonight were as horrible as ever. I really love the fact that other coaches can get key players extra rest by taking them out with under 2 minutes left in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters. EJ went with CB and AJ to the very end of the 3rd quarter when it was evident to everyone except the Wizards coaching staff that the extra rest would be beneficial. BTW, their presence on the court resulted in “0″ points for the Wizards.
Has anyone on the coaching staff noticed that we are NEVER ahead with Etan is in the game. EJ starts him and we are losing by about 10 at the end of the 1st quarter; without ET we close the gap by the half…SO, EJ starts ET for the second half and the gap widens again. It’s hard to keep making up for “Hands of Stone”. When we finally get a new coach, perhaps we can buy-out ET’s contact. I can’t imagine any team wanting him and he is a negative to the Wizards.
Finally, why is EJ unable to understand that when you are losing a fairly close game very late in the 4th quarter YOU MIGHT WANT TO INTENTIONALLY FOUL and see if you can score off some misses. Tonight (as usual in these situations) with over two minutes remaining and still having a chance at a victory, the Wizards allowed the Heat to run 20+ seconds off the shot clock twice by just standing and looking at the heat player with the ball. Maybe the intent is to keep the margin of loss down…I just don’t get it…BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY EJ IS STILL THE WIZ HEAD COACH. Good Lord, nasty Avery Johnson is available. EJ is 197-221 with the Wizards. That’s a .471 winning percentage. With that record he’s the longest tenured coach in the Division! What’s wrong with the Wizards brass?

well if you want to know why he is still the head coach is because with out him Gill is gone no matter what you say if you dont think so ask him he will tell you first hand that was part of his contract that EJ remain head coach and how you guys could blame stupid turnovers on a coach is crazy.. and why were u not on here saying he needed to be fired last year? its because he is a good coach and you just cant see why we are losing and i am going to let you in on something its becasue of B.Haywood yeah thats right the guy that sucked everyone wanted to trade 2 years ago.. because he rand the D from the low post and called out miss matches and all that he even set the D so there you go!
lets give it a brake next thing you know people are going to say that EJ broke Haywoods hand and thats why we are losing

Maybe I missed something, but (GOSH!), I sure HOPE NOT!! It’s a shame that certain people hold themselves back from saying what they really wanna say about this coach…I know 1-7 is hard, but who’s he gonna blame next(?) – the rim; the mascot(s); how bout the tiny dust-bunnies on the floor. All I gotta say is: Where Flip [Saunders] at??

i dont blame turnovers on the coach. i blame etan thomas on the coach. that guy is useless. he isn’t rebounding well, he misses layups, he doesnt protect the paint. the heat went on 10-2 runs to start the game and to start the 3rd quarter. THOMAS NEEDS TO RIDE THE PINE!
