Game Day Jazz
6:07 AM..Dave Johnson checking in…Wizards have put in the work including a practice yesterday before some season ticket holders..Caron Butler hit the game winning shot for the starters with 2.5 seconds left in the scrimmage…the bench had a chance and Andray Blatche almost converted an alley oop reverse lay up that would have forced overtime. ..the real stuff is the concern and tonight the Wizards will face a Jazz team that welcomed Deron Williams back last nigh in a 93-80 win over the Sixers. Mehmet Okur is not with the team and is back in Turkey dealing with a family issue….Still the opponent doesn’t matter. We have discussed all the possibilities but this team needs to play with energy but also play smart..in recent losses it has not necessarily been the number of turnovers but when they occurred..Antonio Daniels did not practice because of a sore knee and is a question mark….BLOGCAST..that is radio with blogging starts tonight at just before 8 PM….there will be a listen live link at the top of the page for online listening and on radio 980 AM in Washington..94.3 FM in Warrenton and Northern Virginia and 92.7 FM in Southern Maryland and 1370 AM in Baltimore.
7:05 PM..Dave Johnson checking in from Verizon Center….Antonio Daniels will start..Wizards will go with Daniels, Stevenson, Butler, Jamison, and Thomas
JORDAN PRE-GAME AUDIO
7:30 PM and now Jazz starters…Deron Williams is a go…Ronnie Brewer..CJ Miles..Carlos Boozer and Kosta Koufos…Mehmet Okur is back in Turkey

Three days off is too much. I’m ready for a Wizards Game tonight! (I hope I can find CSN+ now that directv has changed all their sports channels lol).
Our offense needs to fire on all cylinders tonight. Utah is always a very good defensive team. Aznzero’s comments about practice yesterday are very encouraging. I hope we shoot like that tonight.
Go WIZARDS!

(I’m hoping behind the opposing team’s basket tonight)

gbkdc he’s still in a cast and will be for a while. He is at practices from time to time mostly workin with a left hand hook shot since he cant use his right hand. He’s still keepin in shape, but nothin really to report.

This game will prove as an example to the wiz organization, and team what a well coached disciplined and organized team can do even when they are missing bodies or are not at full strength..0-6 here we come.
The turn around will not come this time around. And for all ya’ll bloggers who think that you have to have a positive outlook to be a fan…get off of it.You can be a die hard fan and a realist. This will not be a repeat of last season for the wiz. This team is talented but not properly coached or utilized.Things like crashing the boards and putting forth an effort to defend are coachable areas, and it’s not happening.Coaching is knowing how to use what u have, and here it’s not happening. This is a soft team overall and they show no fight in wanting to deny the opposition from scoring.
This team needed a infusion of toughness and leadership instead of tying up the yen on the one trick pony on the lamb. I said it last year and I’ll say it again…There is no big three in Washington. Thinking that there was one kept Ernie from making any moves this offseason. This team lacks discipline, grit and leadership, and it don’t take wasting the teams cap on one player to get it.

d.c. , I agree you can be a die hard fan and realistic. But that doesn’t mean you have to be pessimistic. No attacks are necessary.
What we want here are die hard fans that are not completely negative. ESPECIALLY before a game. Basketball is about having fun, what it isn’t about is doom and gloom.
So on to my battle cry, “LESSS GOOOO WIIZZZZZZZ!”

if EJ start jaun and mcgee we would most definately get off to a good start and nice little lead.
We have to keep N1 as our sixth man for points off the bench.
we need one more player off the bench to step up and score some buckets if and whenever juan starts.

i’ve been creeping aorund other basketball websites such as realgm.com just to see how others wiz fans feel about our team.
and alot have been saying that they think its time for a new coach.
i believe the wizards would be crazy to let EJ go before arenas and haywood get back, or before we get to see the team healthy.
but if we lose some of our upcoming games do you guys think it’s time for a coaching change or do we just fight are way through it.
Cuz i dont believe a trade would really helps us.
Comment from Tom Mandel
Time November 12, 2008 at 7:06 PM
I don’t see what Eddie has to do with the team’s problems. We’ve got several of our best players out with injuries. When your best players are out, you don’t play your best. Add a somewhat sub-par start for Caron, and you can see why we’re losing.
Lets get a win tonight.

fans don’t like losing. it makes them want change. a coaching change is easier to execute than a player change which is why i think it is being discussed.
but would a different coach be able to get this team to play better? it would be hard for them to do much worse.
i think if the losing continues there will be some kind of player and/or coaching personnel changes or we are basically then shooting for a lottery pick. given the uncertainty around arenas. and with haywood out all year, maybe the lottery is not such a bad place to be next summer. in my opinion, there is no point in winning 40 games again this year and getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs.

OK Wizards, I have a bottle of champagne ready to break out for the first win of the season. Will I get to pop the cork tonight or not?
It’s long overdue for a win. Blutto (Okur) isn’t at center for the Jazz tonight so this is a good night for McGee to get his first start.
What kind of lame HMO plan do the Wizard’s organization have for their players? Now Daniels has a bum knee – since the summer. How is it that the medical staff didn’t have him ready for the season?
Anyhow – win #1 comes tonight. I can feel it. The monkey climbs off of Jordan’s back and I get to break out the champagne!

Gosh, I just wish that people would get off of Blatche’s knob (which is a more ‘classy’ way to say what I was REALLY gonna say). He’s alright – y’all don’t be saying much when McGee messes up or something. Hell, I wouldn’t really be trying so hard either if my coach (and even the announcers) are ready to ring my neck the second I “mess up”.
On another note, the defense is WAY better and I like it that we’re driving more…[Alright, that’s it – REALLY]
GO WIZ!!!!!

I really like the BIG lineup. With McGee and Blatche there are 2 shot blockers back there and the defense looks better. Then when you throw Caron in at the 2-spot he can over power his defender and the whole team really goes to offensive boards.
I say put NY1 in there as the other guard and that is my favorite lineup. Who really needs a point guard anyway?
Comment from GlingGling

Comment from GlingGling
Time November 12, 2008 at 10:22 PM
Jason, you’re right, historically he plays about 15-20 mpg. McGee can be playing 30 mpg if they ramp up his playing time. I think it was last game he looked a little winded at the end.

a lot to like from that half.. wizards active on D…jamison and butle helped set the tone and mcgee 8 points four rebounds and two blocked shots… he has good hands.. and we even saw caron play some 2 guard with stevenson as his backcourt partner

ive been saying since the the beginning of the season to start javalle. well it looked like eddie didnt but gave him alot of minutes and he was worth every minute that he was in it. looks like caron is continuing his buzzer beating at the shot clock like yesterday’s practice.

THANK GOD! We had to fight for this win. I think Eddie is starting to realize that you can’t just play AD and Etan because of what they may have done in the past, they have to earn the minutes. JaVale is more than earning them.

Big win; great game by Javale. Andray contributed a lot as well (despite showing his good and bad sides).
Nick showed good activity on defense; if his shot had been falling, the game wouldn’t have been close.
Whew!!

the defense finally looked good. i thought especially when we had a big lineup in there, but better all around.
the team still didn’t shoot well, and i think there is not enough ball movement. only 13 assists means there are a lot of dribble drives and contested pull-ups.
mcgee is starting to make me a believer. sometimes he still looks a bit crazed, but he was more careful with the ball tonight and had a huge impact.
dray played better. still that bonehead behind the back pass attempt late in the 4th qtr, but he had a cople of shots go in and out and his defense and rebounding were strong.
caron needs to cut down on the turnovers, but overall he is still playing like an all star.
will history repeat itself over the next 5 games as well?

We played to our strengths tonight, got the bench into the game early and didn’t get to far behind. I liked the way Juan ran the show, JaVale and Blatche seemed to work well together I think there length bothered the Jazz. Caron & Antawn played like all-stars, Nick & Deshawn did there jobs, and I liked that Eddie went back to a shorter rotation. I know we don’t want him to play CB & AJ 40+ min. every game but right now we don’t have a choice. When Gil gets back maybe he’ll be able to spread the min. out a lil more.

player of the game tonight:
JaVale McGee. Double Double, 13 pts, 10 reb, 3 block. Team leader in rebounding.
High Scorer: Caron Butler (27)
High Rebounder: JaVale McGee (10)
High Assister: Caron Butler (3)
anyone know why we didn’t see Dee Brown tonight?

Just checked the blog on the last minutes and you guys are nuts ![]()
Didn’t wake up last night (the game was at 2am for me…) so didn’t grab the first win
Anyway I’m so happy we finally got our game together!
I hear we played good D and if there’s one thing I can tell from the boxscore it’s that it is time for the young man to start in a NBA game!
Next game is at 7:30 and on a friday so that should make it
Thks for posting, that way I get to live the excitement of the game now!!!

The guys are starting to get to know each other. That seems strange on a team that has had it’s core players together for a while now. The new guys like Juan (second time new), Nick, and especially JaVale are all starting to “fit” into things. I think that was the best defensive night so far for both Nick and JaVale. I love how quick Javale is and how fast he is adapting to the NBA game. Everybody knew Nick could shoot but given last year who knew he could play defense as well as he has so far this season.
We beat a very good team tonight by playing hard the entire game. That was fun to watch. We are going to shine and I don’t think the guys involved will be the ones we expected during summer league. Caron and Antawn may again have all star seasons, but, how the team fares will depend on guys like Juan, Nick, and JaVale.

Nick is incredibly long and quick; he should be a *great* defender. He will be too, as soon as he gets how much fun it is to shut down your guy.
Man, Andray Blatche will drive you nuts! I wish he would just get it and settle down.
Unfortunately, Etan is not looking very good on the floor right now. He has his moments, certainly, but in all he seems stiff and a bit mechanical. Hope it all comes back for him.
Man oh man, Javale McGee is *fun to watch!*

Good morning Sports Fans!!! So I’ve had some coffee already….ZING!!!! Guess what we get to do today!!! Some will watch, some will listen, some will blog, some will tear their hair out and throw things at the TV; but no matter we will support “our guys”!!! May the Wiz defense be pure and the jumpers true; may there be the “CRASH” heard loudly over the radio on SLAMS; hold down the points in the paint; watch the perimeter and bring on the Wizard girls, the beer, the hot dogs, your favorite player jersey and rock the Verizon Center!! Go Wiz!!!
