Butler, Jamison, Arenas and Haywood on the All-Star Ballot

The official 2009 NBA All-Star ballot was unveiled today during a special tip-off event in Phoenix, the Official Host City of NBA All-Star 2009.

Four Washington Wizards are featured on this year’s ballot; former All-Stars Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison and center Brendan Haywood. Arenas is a three-time All-Star (2005, 2006, 2007) who was voted in by the fans as a starter in the 2007 game. Butler, who made his first career All-Star appearance in 2007, and Jamison, who made his first career All-Star appearance in 2005, were both named All-Stars for last year’s game in New Orleans.

In other news, the Wizards also held practice today from 11-1pm and from 12-1 it was open to Wizards ticket holders. In today’s scrimmage the vets held on to win by 2 as Caron Butler hit a fadeaway jumper over Dom McGuire with 2.5 seconds left to give the starters the win. Antonio Daniels did not practice and his status for tomorrow is still unknown.

Hey SportWiz and Dave!

Sorry i meant to post it here…

i was at the open practice today. i was the azn kid in the caron butler jersey in the second row in front of eddie tapscott the whole time. it was neat to actually have the opportunity to attend a practice. i noticed these bars on top of the shot clock. is that where javale’s cam is supposed to be???

must i say i was calling the rooks to win that game and was surprised the vets won. i actually have a video of caron hitting the game winning shot with 2.5 seconds left! im not sure if im allowed to post it anywhere.

i liked the idea the rooks had with the alley oop but i was hoping javale wouldve done it instead of blatche. or at least give it to nick who was on fire all day. eddie tapscott didnt say this to the crowd but he said nick young was 3rd in the league in scoring of the bench behind roger mason jr. so that really makes him 2nd since roger starts now!

juan dixon looked solid today. he couldnt miss a shot and played the point really well. in my opinion i think he deserves to start. i think hes the next roger mason ;-)

things i noticed:
-the guys looked relaxed and not panicking despite our record which is good. you can hear them joke around.
-there was alot of communication on defense on both teams.
-nobody could miss a shot! i mean nobody! if we shoot like that im pretty sure we would be winning.
-caron was wearing googles throughout the whole practice. at one time he went to stretch out his legs in front of us and you can see how swollen his eye was. it was pretty bad. but being tough juice it didnt affect him at all.
-javale was a throwing down alot of jams. the crowd was loving him. he was also getting rebounds and had a nice block.

quote of the day

“get ready to run” by antawn to the rooks after caron hit the game winning shot.

all in all it seems like the team is in high spirits and im looking forward to tomorrows game. i enjoyed the time watching the guys practice.

lets start our winning streak like last year!!!
Go wizards!

Great stuff!!

I’m glad to hear they’re in good spirits — I have the feeling we’re going to reel off a few wins.

When I remember how well we played in San Antonio in late October — a game that SA really wanted to win, despite it being preseason — I know we have it in us to get in gear.

Really, it’s not Andray or Nick or Juan we need to step up — it’s Caron and Antawn. As soon as they start playing well, we’ll stop worrying about the young kids.

Tom:
knowing the wizards from last year, we tend to have a big game following a big lost. i know we can can win tomorrow and shouldve won every game so far.

in my opinion i think caron has been playing very well. he is on my fantasy team and is producing in al categories. twan on the other hand has yet to really get in rhythm. remember a couple of years ago when twan had a bad december it really affected the team. but being a veteran im pretty sure hell get it together.

Eddie’s audio didn’t sound too good for AD. But he is a fighter, let’s see how it goes.

Jamison’s audio has a similar tone for AD. Maybe it is serious.

at the practice AD was on the bike the whole time. Hopefully this shows how his condition is.

SportsWiz… the site is now officially great. one click audio, very professional looking, and easy to read. One day I’ll get up the guts to try uploading an avatar. (I printed the directions).

Yeah I kinda got that too GlingGling. I hope AD isn’t more serious than they are saying, but, it has been the Wizards way in the past to downplay some things. Antonio is by far our most dependable and steady point guard. Losing him long term will not be a good thing.

I just have a feeling. I think tomorrow Antawn is going to have one of his “regular” games (like the ones he had against Cleveland in the playoffs year before last). He is just due. With Brendan out I think the team feeds off Caron’s energy but looks to Antawn to be the anchor. If he comes out and plays solid ball I think we may see a turn around.

How much does it STINK for Brendan to be on the all star ballot This of all years!! At least the league recognized his season last year. God I feel sorry for the guy.

If Gil comes back soon enough we could still have 3 though :)

its sometimes the small things that count the most i like when CB3 plays passion and with that i want it.. and I’m going to take it attitude.. because if you see him do it then the team soon follows after… AJ on the other hand is trying hard but he is just not getting his shots to fall and you can tell its starting to ware on him if he could get a few to drop early i think he could shake his self out of that funk

Congrats to all the guys on the All-Star Ballot, but especially CONGRATULATIONS TO HAYWOOD!!!!!! You deserve it big-time!!!! Heal up and come back, we miss you and we need you.

How about coaching from the bench? And maybe you could stand behind the opposing team’s basket and tell guys where to go on defense? What do you say?????

I can’t believe I had to register all over again after being Wiz034 on this website for four (4) years.

But anywho, I don’t like to sound bleak but there’s something missing from this team. I know for one thing it’s Haywood..after folks bashed him year after year but you can see where he’s missing. The chemistry from this team is also missing but it shoulnd’t be after playing together for several years and I know it’s early in the season.
I’m sorry but Etan starting isn’t going to cut it, there’s no way he can replace Haywood. If EJ wants win he’s going to have to draw up another plan and quick because the one he has isn’t working.
The East has changed a lot and if the Wiz want to be competitive they are going to have to step it up..
