Game Day Milwaukee
5:38 AM EST…Dave Johnson getting an early start….update as soon as we have anything on Etan Thomas whoi has not practiced last couple of days because of a sprained left ankle….like this comment from
Caron Butler: (I expect to see) a lot of intensity. Defensively, they’ve looked great over the last couple of games. I saw their game against the Knicksand they did a lot of different things. We just need to continue to get into our offense, play great defensively and give them a lot of different looks. Our energy level needs to be high. We can’t get off to a slow start like we did in Detroit. In Detroit, we were resilient at the end of the game and we managed to come back from a 20 point deficit, but we can’t keep putting ourselves in situations like that.”
BLOGCAST....radio broadcast and live blogging combined starts tonight at 8:00 PM Eastern…we are coming offf a record breaking Saturday on the BLOG ..so here is to a big night..TV is CSN…..on radio 980 AM in Washington and 1370 AM in Baltimore and there will be a listen live link at the top of the page.
11:25 AM EST….word here in Milwaukee is that Michael Redd is ano go because of a sprained ankle and that Luke Ridnour is a question mark because of back spams.
7:05 PM EST…Dave Johnson checking in from Bradley Center…starters are in..Etan Thomas is inactive for tonight….Andray Blatche will get the start—from four minutes to starter—you can hear Eddie Jordan’s comments beginning at 8PM with the start of the radio broadcast….Jamison, Butler, Stevenson, and Daniels round out the Wizards starters….NO MICHAEL REDD…so the Bucks will go with Luke Ridnour and Charlie Bell in the back court..Andrew Bogut is the center…and Charlie Villanueva and Richard Jefferson as the forwards…

Congrats to Senator Obama. Here in Germany, people were really cheering for him and I’m very happy he made it.
Concerning the Wizards, we badly need our first win.
One thing I noticed in the first two games that guys we’re really settling early in the game. Taking contested jumpshots early in the shotclock and not attacking the rim. This has to improve in order to jump out to a quick start. That would be a big boost.

Congrats to Obama and to all of you who, as for me made the right choice
Tonight’s game is gonna be really interesting as we’ve seen good things saturday after the season opener’s slow start… let’s hope we can grab our first W and deliver a great performance (gotta grab those boards…)
Hopefuly Etan ‘ll be with us.

The tone of the game is what Caron said if we can do that we can be successful but we must mantain our composure because the refs are only human! We have a chance if we stay poised in the line of fire! Good Luck!

Big difference between 1-2 and 0-3; we need this win.
If Etan can’t go, we’ll only get it from Blatche. Everyone wants a chance to redeem himself; this is his chance to get his fledgling season back on the right course.

I will not start controversy between Blatche and Javale but lets see what the rookie can do in the starlight on the first team ! I think he has the smarts to stay out of foul trouble by not letting there bigs get into there hot spots by fronting and taking charges! I still see center by committee with all four getting playing time “Javale,Blatche,Songali and Etan”.
Comment from LilGil
Time November 5, 2008 at 3:30 PM
Honestly if Etan can’t make it tonight, I believe Javale’s the right choice, I mean we’ve seen a little Blatche lately and I’m not even sure he’d do better than Javale….. The rookie’s raw but he can play and that’s still a good experiment.

Blatche has not shown up yet and he is in his fourth season. I agree that McGee needs to get the nod until Blatche gets inspired and wants to play some ball on a consistent basis.

glenn consor here : keys: find spme offensive rythm, focus on defense, so far teams are shooting 50% from the floor, Dray will get the start, he needs to focus and produce, and the offense has to flow thru Caron and Antawn first, Wiz need to prioritize>

hey gang finally back on the blog after missing the past year.
michael redd is out is good since we having been defending the three well. but look out for ramon sessions again. i was at the april 2 game when gil came back and session was doing good. he was feeling it for sure and hit the game winning shot.
i still dont know what it would take for eddie to start javale. well i guess this might be ok since andray doesnt have alot of stamina. maybe javale will get on the court sooner. i hope nick the kid is still on fire. i have a feeling stevenson will drain threes all night.

now back to the important stuff…
I heard etan is out for this game dis is tuff we already dont have any big men…hope he’ll be back soon…good news is we really is goin to get a good loook at the rook.`if coach play him.
JUan dixon should get the start along with songalia, why. Bottomline stevenson and daniels cannot play long stretches together just not enough offense. to cure that pair dixon with stevenson and N1 with daniels.IMO. I really like songalia bcuz of his IQ and defense rotations. jus dont leave him at center all night to get exposed, coach
can’t wait to see nick bloom 2nite and dis year.man im excited about him.

hi glinggling! It is a tough game to comment on. This lineup could have come in so much earlier! “Going straight down the middle on a run” just doesn’t cut it sometimes.

Time November 5, 2008 at 10:01 PM
yeah, the right things is energy (bench) but it’s the right bench. The confusing part to me is why did it take so long to develop; we see it; we see who needs to play together; yet he keeps going “straight down the middle” AB has all those TO’s. Why did McGee get taken out when he was getting in the flow. Why destroy the chemistry that was working.

Bex, loved your comment about the 1st half being obnoxious; I’d say the players who Eddie choose to start were not in flow, not having chemistry, and seem to do better with different players. The energy (bench) that came in and finished the half have the rhythm among themselves. I believe Dee and McGee can provide a spark and rhythm but they aren’t being given the proper opportunity; maybe it’s time but I think Coach keeping them out against Detroit really hurt those two especially.

sometimes its good to have change of pace guys off the bench, harder for teams to prepare for and adjust, remember Manu Ginobili came off the bench for the Spurs during their title runs.

horrible coaching down the stretch by going to the ice cold Jamison on a jumper and afterwards in the post.
both very very very low percentage shots.
why the hell not go over Caron or Nick. They at least could have drawn a foul and would have sinked a freethrow.
damn, I’m pissed.

Jamison looked like a player past his prime tonight. I don’t understand why they didn’t put the ball in butler’s hands to close the game.
some of the young guys looked good. mcgee and young especially. and dom finally played the way he needs to be a contributor.
but the “veterans” simply looked old and ineffective.

McGee cost us the game.. he blew the last play that tied the game so to the people yelling for a rookie in OT you should be thinking about how it would have been if he would have stayed out and we would have won in the 4th qt and the coaching was fine you dont coach turnovers people tend to pont fingers but check and see who turned the ball over it was not the coach… and how dare some of you say anything about AJ that guy has won more games for us than any player ever and you diss him like that…geting tired of the BS on here going to take a brake from this thing for a wile…..

Comment from ChenierFan

Eddie got out coached by Scott Skiles, who is not afraid to play a center at the end of the game. Even one who can’t make free throws. Eddie stayed with the impotent backcourt of Daniels and Stephenson way too long. Those guys have nothing going at either end of the court. He is also managing to suck the confidence out of Andray and in time may do the same with McGee as well.
The Wiz should have won this game.

Unbelievable
How can you lose with a 12 point lead going into the fourth quarter! Well the coach took the hot players out”Juan,Nick,Butler,Jamison,Mcgee” out at the 7.30 mark after time out and brought the none productive pg:Antonio & Sg Stevenson back in and guess what we lost our stealing ability and scoring and momentum . It seems to me that Antonio is past his time and should be sitting more now and letting Juan and Nick starting because things happen when they are IN!!!We get much better rhythm and flow from this combination and much better defense right now!

Very tough to lose. I’ll bet Hopla wasn’t pleased.
Jordan is obviously playing everyone to see who will step up enough to be in the regular rotation. I presume he won’t have a 12 man rotation for long.
I shudder whenever Blatche goes in the game. He’s a classic case of a high school kid who wasn’t ready to be a pro. He wasn’t experienced enough. Now he’s snake bit and playing like he’s afraid he’ll make a mistake. So that’s what he does.
Dixon seems like a more rounded, and better, player than when he was here before. Looks like Brown is the odd man out at guard.
I thought when the season started that we’d need two of our young guys to really come into their own for us to do as well as last year. Looks like Young is one, though he’s still got a lot to learn. Waiting for the second to show up.
Butler looks like an all-star. One hellavu player.
I was hoping Thomas would make it further before getting hurt. He’s a slow healer, too. He was playing so well. Actually, his stats for FG% and rebounds and blocks per minute played are all better than Haywood’s, although Haywood is otherwise a better defender.

I agree with the vast majority of the comments posted regarding the terrible coaching we are experiencing. Washington DC deserves the best…but what we are getting is, at best, mediocre.
We go behind big whenever AD is in the game; we recover when AD is out, especially when Slick Nick is in the game; we’re 0-3 with AD starting and getting any kind of minutes…wake up coaching staff.
Darius is the best defensive player on the team insofar as playing the type defense the Wiz are playing. He breaks his butt and does a great job. He was a very big part of our comeback tonight. However, he is no match for the bigger centers and should be playing strong forward. Dray or McGee is a better choice at center at the end of a game.
Andray deserves more credit than he gets. He hustles; he plays tough; he plays hard. Yes, he makes some mistakes that make me hold my head in dismay…but all of his mistakes are while he is trying to make something positive happen. He’s still very young; he’ll learn. He can be an all-star, but only if he has a coach who is positive, patient and knows what he is doing.
It should never have come down to being so close during Q4. Once again coach put AD and DS back in the game after the bench had put us ahead. With AD and DS in the game we went back downhill. Neither of these guys is displaying the type of game that gives them the right to be playing when the game is on the line. If so many fans can see it, why can’t EJ? Slick Nick and Juan D brought us back. Why sit them out when it counts? It’s time to end DS’s starting streak and AD should either look for an assistant coaching job at Bowling Green or with his former coach at Mason or understand that his minutes with the Wiz are very limited.
I don’t want to hear about injuries. All teams have injuries. Missing Redd should have crippled the Bucks, but they survived thanks to our coaching.
Very poor judgement and continued very poor coaching. Every year EJ has demonstrated poor judgement and lack of game-time coaching skills. There have been several games over the past few years when coach J has made bad decisions that cost us games. With this coaching staff we’ll miss an opportunity to go deep into the playoffs again. Maybe next year we’ll finally see a change.
Come on Ernie, make a move NOW! This is getting very old.

We should really consider starting Nick Young over DeShawn. DeShawn is not scoring and he is turning the ball over on crtical possesions.
Also try starting JaVale McGee in 13 mins of play last night he had 9 pts 5 rebs 1 block, give the kid 30 mins and see what he can do. Blatche certainy isnt working.
