Bleacher Report: Football Team of NBA Players
I was checking out FoxSports.Com and they linked an article from Bleacher Report (so I guess I’m linking a link) about what their Football team was made up of if they used NBA players. And since college football season kicks off tonight I figured I’d post it here and see what everyones opinions are. Here is the team.
(Backups in parentheses)
QB: Jason Kidd (Brandon Roy)
RB: Chauncey Billups and Stephon Marbury (Mo Williams, Raymond Felton)
WR: Dwyane Wade, Vince Carter and Kobe (Michael Finley, Jerry Stackhouse and Josh Howard)
TE: LeBron James, Richard Jefferson (Carmelo Anthony, Shawn Marion)
DT: Carlos Boozer, Glen Davis, (Sean May, Craig Davis, Zack Randolph)
DE: Artest and Jason Maxiell, (Elton Brand, Kenyon Martin, Leon Powe)
LB: Baron Davis, Bonzi Wells, Fred Jones (Arenas (yea I don’t get it either), CB3, Andre Miller)
CB: Allen Iverson, Chris Paul (Derek Fisher, Jason Terry)
SS: Deron Williams (Ben Gordon)
FS: Andre Iguodala (Raja Bell))
K: Steve Nash
P: Rasheed Wallace
Return men: Rajon Rondo and Leandro Barbosa

Hey SportzWiz: anyways you can get some videos or pics of the guys doing drills or working out? i think many of us would feel good if we could see how well the players are doing at this point……oh yeah u talked to Gil yet about his new name being “Operator” or “The Operator” yet?

Wade’s at RB.
Iverson would be a little small for qb. DMac was actually an excellent receiver in high school when it comes to wizards.

I dont see gil too often and usually its for a very very short period. It’s tough with the players with video and pics. Most guys are coming in for workouts and dont want to be bothered during drills and definitely during rehab.

This Bleacher Report is the dumbest thing I’ve read in a long time. I don’t think the NBA players were selected for those football positions by what they may have played in high school or younger. I’m guessing all the positions are based on HEIGHT and a physical attribute the players are known for. Therefore, for a 6-8 LeBron to play Tight End makes sense (size, strength, toughness) and so does a 6-4 Arenas to play Linebacker (quickness, makes a lot of plays).
Sheed as a punter? I can’t think of any associations. Punters don’t tend to yap all that much so I have no clue on this one.
The only players that the list got right are the Return Men of Barbosa and Rondo. You can add Tony Parker to it too.

I’m not good enough for an intern job!
But… do note that the Celtics are looking for someone who can make statistical info sing for them, and we need someone like that too!
How can you not have Rip at WR, btw? He even looks like a wide receiver. And Sheed can only be compared to TO, so I guess he is a receiver too!

I’m only 16 but I already know that I want to work in a professional sports buisiness, preferably the NBA. I don’t exactly know what I specifically want to do, but I do want to work in the buisiness/relations/sales/etc. departments, something that makes good money and would give me pride because I work in a professional sporting buisiness

Oh yeah, does anybody know if there is a time limit to sign restricted free agents? Like if the restricted free agents aren’t resigned, do they become unrestricted or are they still essentially owned by there team until another team makes an offer and the players own team doesn’t match it?

Wizfan –
You should want it because you love it; what would you need pride for, everyone’s got that. For example, ever not asked a girl out or not wanted to apologize to one of your siblings or something…That, my friend, is pride (well, the girl thing probably could’ve been due to shyness and/or fear too).

W4L is saying he wants to work for a sports business that gives him pride (e.g., he’s proud to be working for them). He doesn’t want to be working for a shady company cuz he’s not going to be proud with what he does even though he could be making a lot of dough.
Bridge’s examples are also a type of pride, but I would group that more as “arrogance-pride” [like you're too good for them] rather than “being proud-pride” [like your mama crying cuz her baby graduated from college].

Bridge I love your words of wisdom……I want to work for the NBA because I love the NBA and love watching basketball and I’m saying I would be proud to work in the NBA because it would be something I love, but at the same time it would be a good job as well.

“Bridge’s examples are also a type of pride, but I would group that more as “arrogance-pride†[like you’re too good for them]â€â€¦
Arrogance is pretty much a disrespectful form of proud; proud is about self-respect and esteem; pride can be a number of different things, but like you said, to be proud. I don’t see my examples as being the “arrogant†type of pride though. How would it be “too good†if, lets say, I, wanted to ask someone out. In being arrogant, you wouldn’t think twice about asking someone out (but that’s just my opinion). You have pride in asking someone out because your esteem is on the line (not knowing how the other person is going to respond). With MY siblings, I never think that I’m “too good†to apologize to them because I don’t think that I’m too good for anybody. Sometimes, I just don’t want to apologize because I just feel that I don’t have to – it’s like “I didn’t do anything wrong…â€; I’m being selfish, not “too good.â€
Originally, what I was saying to Wizfan is that he should be doing it, not just because of the $ or the fact that it seems cool, but because he loves it. It was more like friendly support (much like I give sisterly support), not some type of statement open to interpretation, unless Wizfan himself wanted to correct me on something. That’s all…

I don’t know Tom. You are very good at that stuff? You could be like that guy with the Red Sox that completely changed everyone’s thinking about baseball stats? You even have me reading your stats and saying things like “that makes sense”.
Hey Wizfan4life… most sports teams have “internships” where you get paid nothing (or very little) but learn a lot about the internal workings of the franchise. It may be something to consider applying for if you have an interest along those lines. Most internships are in the summer months as they are designed for college age people.

Tell him to keep up the good work. Also Bridge keep up the great work as well, you may not know this but even though this is your brother, you are making a major impact on his life and others with your blog.

Thanks J50! I’ll tell him everything you said – I’ll probably even show him what you said (he needs a little introduction to the Wizards anyway
. As far as him playing in high school, he actually goes back to school on Sep 2nd; I’ll be going up there with him to talk to the person in charge of all the basketball stuff – so yeah, we’re both hoping that he’ll play. Videos will be coming soon, so stay posted. I appreciate you telling people to check it out (the site); I’m kinda modest about this all, sometimes attention embarrasses me…But thanks again and sorry for the late reply – late night yesterday….
Like he said – GO WIZ!!!

SportzWiz sez –”I dont see gil too often and usually its for a very very short period. It’s tough with the players with video and pics. Most guys are coming in for workouts and dont want to be bothered during drills and definitely during rehab.”
Fair enough but clearly we’re starving here. Fans on this site want to hear any kind of inside scoop or skinny you got. Who is in town? Who’s working out a ton? Who looks bigger? Who has been rehabbing? Who do you see most on the practice court? How does their shot look? What assistant coaches are around? Have they made any of the players their special projects? Do the guys scrimmage with each other at all? Any funny stories? Any jokes the players have been cracking on each other? Grab a player for a quick session of ‘your fans want to know…’ What’s a typical offseason day for [player name here]? What’d he eat for breakfast, what time did he get up, do they wear tube socks or shortie socks, brush your teeth before breakfast or after? What’s their take on the presidential race? What’s their take on other team’s offseason moves? What player do they most hate to face? What team do they like to play most? Best player not in the league. Could the Spanish national team defeat the World Champ Boston Celtics? On a neutral court with international rules? Are they looking forward to their overseas trip with the team? Have they made any preparations for the trip (bought some language tapes, called Dirk Nowitzki to find out what’s a good hotspot in Berlin)? If the NBA opened up an NBA Europe, would they mind playing overseas? What countries have they been to? Spiciest food they ever ate. Best little known place to eat, DC or in their hometown. Do they have a personal nutritionist? … Pick a question. Or ask the website fans to contribute to the list.
Otherwise, yeah, uh, which NBA player would make the best goalie in soccer?… striker?… midfielder?….
Starving, I say. Feed us a nugget.

Maybe it’s time for us to start an independent Wizards-oriented blog? They exist for lots of teams. I can do the set up easily enough, but I don’t want to be the only one posting items (i.e. not comments but *new items*).
Note — to do this well would require some effort from a few people. Think about it first.

Having added Theo Ratliff, the Sixers are now about to sign Donyell Marshall — whom I’d been hoping we’d grab for the vet. minimum, as he’d be a great influence on Andray and JaVale.
Admittedly, we are up near the luxury tax ceiling, but it is hard to watch Philadelphia improve radically, Miami gear up for the return of the old Dwayne Wade, Indiana add a veteran center, top-tier PG and young talent, Cleveland make moves, etc. — all while we field the same team as last year.

Whoa, there — I wouldn’t want to *replace* this blog!! No way.
The question is whether a blog about the Wizards that is *independent* of the franchise itself would be of interest — there are blogs of this kind for lots of nba teams and other sports franchises.

Hey guys as I told you before I would love to give you more than what I have. But A we don’t have that much right now. As I said very few guys are around and the ones that are usually are with the trainers and when people are with trainers they usually don’t want to talk. (i have posted what ive heard) B. We are the official blog of the team so when we have things to tell you we post it here as soon as we can. There are independant blogs like bulletsforever.com that do a nice job, but even Ivan’s blogs and Mike Jones blogs are quiet because there’s not that many rumblings going on. Starting today I will start breaking down each division and talk about what each teams moves this off-season and a couple sentences on the upcoming year for that team.
Also realize the guys that do come into the gym don’t necessarily come in for 11:00 practices everyday. I would love to go down to the practice court and hang out waiting for players to arrive but unfortunately that could lead to some very long waits with nothing to report on.
