Back in D.C.
Oh wow. I dont even know what to say about last night. Just a great effort put forth by the whole team. I can’t believe the resiliency. When we were down 84-82 we get a very very tough no call on Caron that leads to a 3-point play and all of a sudden were down by 5 with under 1:30 to go in the game. I had all these Cleveland fans patting me on the shoulder saying have a nice off-season and then bang here they come shutting down the Cavs and scoring in the clutch. Just unbelievable.
Anyway I will be heading down to practice at noon. I will have more for you following that. Let me say the plane ride home was great the whole team was in a good mood and now they gotta carry that energy over to Game Six. If you have questions please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer. Oh and I threw up four videos from last night. One of the Cavs fan fest, one of jordan talking pregame, a live band at the arena and then 3 minutes of the Cavs and Wizards intros.
Click here to check them out.
UPDATE: Videos from Practice, Antawn talks about the Fans and Caron talks about keeping the series alive.

What a great win. We have a lot of momentum now. Our players believe in themselves and in the team. The refs did the right thing at the end of the game by swallowing the whistle. This is the playoffs. Lebron had his chance. Now back to DC tomorrow. Cant wait! We needed that win last night so badly.

Lucky win? Caron’s stats just neutralized LeBron’s stats. Haywood fouled out and Jamison was basically shut down offensively. I think the Cavs just didn’t execute and that’s that. Even Mike Brown said it during postgame. And I saw the whole thing on NBATV.
The last 1:30 of Game 5 seemed to be what the Wizards sometimes do when they have a lead – they just go into cruise control mode and they get themselves into situations of being of the brink of losing. It just so happened that the Cavs went into that mode instead.
Man, I can’t believe how brutal the Cleveland media is to Mike Brown. Every question was basically “your team choked and you’re to blame”. I mean, my God – how can your own reporters stab you on the back like that? No wonder why the hate is maximized out there. It’s like desperation going into insanity and then turning into hate. I respect Mike Brown for answering every question truthfully and taking in the nonsense from the media.

Take it as you like, but I love our media guys that cover the Wiz. From Chenier & Buckhantz with CSN; and Dave Johnson doing the radio; and the Post guys doing locker room stuff; and even Mike Wilbon being pro-Wizard lately; and lastly the Wizards organization guys like SportzWiz and A. Rosen and such – you’ll never hear any of these guys backstab the Wiz even during a terrible performance. Heck, even with local haters like T. Knott – the brutality isn’t even that extreme as what I heard from the postgame conference last night.

Congratulations you beat us at home for the first time in 3 years. I would have to say the odds were in you favor to do that eventually. The fact is only 8 teams have came back from a 3-1 deficit and I am positive your team is not good enough to become the 9th. So enjoy the last win you will have this year suckers

lebron james will look just as bad as kingjameswizardkiller if they don’t win this series. If this thing goes to Game 7, ALL the pressure is on Lebron and the Cavs because of the way Lebron answered the question if he thought the Wizards could comeback from down 3-1. Also, everyone had already penciled in the Cavs to round 2, so I really think for the first time the pressure will be on Cleveland. They never really had that last year in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Also, does anyone have a hint as to when game 7 will be?? I really hope it is not a day game, because our track record in day games is not very good….0-2 this series. Plus, I would like to think they would put a game 7 in primetime, but I have a feeling that stupid ABC will have the rights to it…..which would mean no Buckhantz and Chenier which would be a real shame….I refuse to listen to Tirico or any of those other schmoes who constatntly talk about anything BUT basketball

i have been to three games this series (first 2 at verizon, and game 5 at the Q) and i can tell you first hand the cavs fans are a JOKE! its hard enough to get wiz fans to the game by the end of the first quarter but last night i found out what true fair weather fans are like. these people acted like it was no big thing… they only booed when the announcer told them too. lol they tryed to boo DS and by the end of the third quarter its like they forgot who he was, they forgot to boo. and you would have thought mike brown was public enemy number one, i thought he might need a police escort out of his own arena by the way the cavs fans where screming at him to run an offense… ANY offense. i will have to say the people are much less ruthless about their sports in cleveland than im used to, they were pretty nice to me even though i had a wiz jersey on. i just cant say enough about this team, these guys are worriors. and we needed every one of those shots from Dsteve last night. after lbj missed that shot i only had one think to say on the way out…SILENCE IS GOLDEN. catch me in section 116 row m tomorrow, this series is killin’ my pockets!

Thanks for the info SportsWiz. I am going to assume that if Atlanta wins tomorrow night (which is very possible) than we will be a 1:00 start time. I really don’t like that, and wish that it was on primetime. First off, ABC’s coverage is flat out terrible and bad quality. I really liked NBC’s coverage so much better. Their announcers are sub-par and for Game 4, all Tirico talked about was the drama going on off the court, as if we hadn’t heard about it a million times before. He must of alluded to James taking a beating like 10,000 times…..please Tirico talk more about the game on the court than everything else. Second, that means that there will be no broadcast on CSN, which is such a shame for us diehard Wizards fans who really enjoy listening to Buckhantz and Chenier call the game.
I know I am getting way ahead of myself, as we still need to win tomorrow night which will not be an easy task, but I really hope tomorrow night will not be the last of Buckhantz and Chenier for the year. I really believe that this team needs to get on the Cavs early and establish a double digit lead…we can’t let them hang around like we did in Game 4……you saw what happens when the Cavs get down big early in Game 3. We just need to ride that momentum from Game 5. Let’s make them feel all the pressure, and please………..DO NOT LET DAMON JONES GET OPEN if it comes down to a final possession like the last time we played them in Game 6 at home, haha.

I think LeTravel’s scissor hold on Songaila and his subsequent, oscar-worthy performance were brilliant. Up to that point, the Wiz had all of the momentum and then it turned on a dime after the incident. The refs were very hard on the Wizards for the next quarter after that as well.
However, I hope officials will review tape of the incident and realize they were duped. Even if it is a new crew at VC on Friday, I would hope they watched the tape as well and are ready to make The King pay or at least call it fair and square.
Gosh, the flagrant they called on LeBron yesterday for game one was so effective! What’s up with that?

Hey y’all, I just watched the whole game again and I did enjoy it haha. Really strong performance from our guys. Now we gotta be consistant and that’s the hardest part. It’s all about focus, we were focused yesterday now how many times have we pulled two really good games in a row? Well all I can say is that we have beaten Boston twice in a row and that Caron stepped up twice! An other very important factor: Antawn. My man ‘Tawn hasn’t played at his highest level so far and you know what that means, it’s only a matter of time. Now that our whole team is in playoff-mode we won’t have stupid games like the two first. For once I’ll be there for the whole game on friday (normaly) and I can’t wait to be on friday night to enjoy that great game with all my fellow bloggers.

Lets just concentrate on Friday’s game — you can be sure it will be a *tough* contest, and either team will be able to win.
Both teams will have a chance to win in the 4th quarter — going to be no more blowouts.
I’d also be happier if we stopped calling people names, as that doesn’t win ballgames. All these guys are *professional* athletes. Do you really think they dis each other in the off season the way you guys dis them here. They play for money, and any one of the Cavaliers could be a Wizard one day.

Novers12 – do you really think Damon Jones is going to get minutes in the playoffs? He’s had his share of bickering with Coach Mike Brown on playing time all season long and he explicitly said he wants out of Cleveland so he can go back to Miami. I’ll be shocked if he gets in the game. Daniel Gibson is Damon’s replacement and it’ll stay that way for the rest of the series unless Gibson gets hurt.
Some are jumping a bit to visions of Game 7. Game 6 is the last home game for the Wizards in Round 1 and that should be the only focus. Eddie Jordan sounded pretty confident that he’ll be back in Cleveland on Sunday during last night’s post game. I liked the part when he always smiles and said “I’m not guaranteeing a win but we’ll be back”. The mind games with the media are fantastic. Oh, and he praised LeBron before stepping off the podium. It’s hard to compliment the other side when your team also played well and should have been respected.
My opinion tells me that Mike Brown’s not the problem in Cleveland. It is the attitude of the players they got now that are problems (which includes Damon Jones, Anderson Varejao, Ben Wallace, and Wally Szczerbiak). You’ve got a bunch of internal riffs from underachievers dividing the team. Not even LeBron can save team chemistry. I understand it is Mike Brown’s job to corral the troops, but if you, as a player, act like a bunch of overpaid and underachieving PROFESSIONAL basketball players, then you shouldn’t even be allowed to play alongside LeBron. Someone mentioned in another post that the Cavaliers look, behave, and act miserable playing basketball. You know what – I agree with that.

I just found it hilarious that Lebron was crying about not getting a foul called on that last play when he gets it called literally every time he drives to the basket. Granted, I think some of it is our own doing for basically telling the refs before the series that we were going to foul him every time he drove in. But seriously, Caron and Deshawn drove in how many times and didn’t get the call because they’re not considered superstars. There’s a foul pretty much every time someone goes to the rim in the NBA, it’s just a part of the game with all of those big bodies. Lebron needs to quit whining, he’s gone to the foul line more than Gil, Caron, and Antawn combined for the series.

If you watch the replay closely there’s a reason why Darius is offbalance when he goes to help on Lebron someone helped get him their quicker with a little shove.
As for the game you are correct it will be at 1:00 if Boston and Atlanta go to 7. There are also other scenarios i wont get into all of them. You will also most likely ahve to deal with just a ABC feed.

obviously, i was kidding around talking about Damon Jones. But hey, people probably said the same thing last game 6 we played against him. That last 30 seconds was the first minutes had had played in like 3 games…..so never say never…..
I honestly believe that Gibson should be starting over Wally…..that guy is atrocious on defenese, and can only score if he is absolutely wide open…..I also read that Sasha was activated for Game 5 but didn’t play. That is not good for us if he can play in the last 2 games, because he always plays well against us, and will be getting the minutes that Devon Brown has been getting.

Here’s a question for Darius:

Good call jhough – you are totally right about Z. Always fending off the defender with his other arm. Have they even called ONE loose ball foul on him in the series? Or how bout a moving pick?
But anyway – I can’t believe how much is being made of the Darius/LeBron ‘incident’. Marv Albert says he threw a punch at James. Give me a break. This is getting out of control. Just because LeBron rolls around, rubs his jaw, grabs his face – it’s like the league refuses to believe that he is acting. I mean, how about that elbow from Z on Darius last night? How bout Lebron’s elbow to the face of Blatche earlier in the series? If anything, that was much more intentional than anything Darius did. And for the league to assess him a ’secret’ flagrant? What a joke. Now I want us to win for more than just the personal satisfaction of beating the Cavs and for the players – now I want to win so we can dump the NBA’s princess out of the playoffs.

Hello Wiz Fans,
Just wanted to post as I have a few hours to burn and I have been reading posts here.
I have watched every game of this series and I have to say I am enjoying it.
First off, I am a fan of neither team (I’m from LA visiting DC – and I love it here
) but seeing as round 1 for the Lakers wasnt too interesting (no offense Denver) I have tried to keep up to date with what was going on off the court in this series.
I just wanted to wish you guys luck on Friday. But I do hope things will go back to basketball. I know I would be offended if someone came on TV and called Kobe overrated – but even with that, I was disappointed when the cleveland fans were chanting a-hole on NATIONAL TV. Come on. I mean Kobe trash talks as much as the next guy, I know this. But it’s all done on the COURT, you know what I mean.
Either way, I have to say you all are some great fans and this is one of the most interesting blogs I’ve read.

So far we’ve had 2 home team blowouts (1 by each team), 2 lucky road wins (1 by each team), and 1 close game – the first one – which the home team won. There are about 3 points total separating the 2 teams over 5 games. I look for a very close game on Friday, and it’ll be up to us to show that we can close out that kind of game.
The fouls have *not* been called disproportionately against us — I haven’t added it up, but I think they are pretty close to even over the series. Stop whining that “they” don’t get called for fouls and “we” do. Every fan thinks that.
Referees don’t “call” rebounds — and that’s the place where we’ve had the most serious trouble. If we rebound and play defense, we’ll win Friday. Those 2 factors are also key in a game 7.
All the silly, stupid “queen james” stuff and so forth, that’s a waste of time. Antawn is a grown up man; you think he is into that crap?
If they beat us, they are the better team; if we win, we are the better team. That’s what “better team” means.

The Wiz are fully capable of beating the Cavs one more time twice in a row. Outside of James, and maybe Z, the Cavs don’t have a lot of game.
All this talk about if the Wiz are better with Gil or without misses the point that the Wiz didn’t play with the real Gilbert Arenas the whole year. The Wiz are certainly better without a one-legged Arenas, but a healthy Arenas, like we will see next year – I can’t wait!
Tomorrow the Wiz need some help from Blatche and Young. The last two games have been tough on Andray. Maybe tomorrow he can get the butterflies out and get his feet moving on defense. They need good minutes from him to get some boards and protect the rim. I always need to remind myself that he is only 21.
I hope that Nick Young can get back to being a boost off the bench. If that happens, look out! He can add a little flash to the attack, which is in grind it out mode. That plays to the Cav’s advantage.
Another hero in yesterdays game was Daniels, who made those big free throws before the Butler lay-up.
What’s all this talk about James being fouled on the last play… what about Butler being hacked by James on the arm on his drive to the hoop? James tried to hack him again on the next (winning) play, but missed.
Jamison needs to get his offensive mojo back. He looked a bit hesitant the last game.
Those Cav fans better start saving their pennies for Game 7, because the Wiz will be on their way back to the Q on Sunday.

We have the momentum coming home. With the “WHITE OUT” in a sold out arena tomorrow night you know that is going to Spark our team a wee bit. The last time the fans turned out to be the 6th man we won by 36. This one will be close (as will be the 7th……… I Hope). We need AD to have his “regular” flawless game.. We need Deshawn to play the second best game of his life (save the best one for game 7)….. We need Caronimo (owe Bridge almost a house payment now lol) to be Caronimo and just let himself PLAY like he did last game… no more sub par Games for Mr. Jamison (this is usually the time of year he plays his best ball)…Haywood needs to finish the season how he started it… Stong!
Mason needs to continue to be the Roger we have all grown to Love. Darius needs to step his game up to his “usual” level. Andray… ahhh Andray… what a game changer he could be if he only realized it! Cm’on Bubba we need you to play the gameS of your life. I’d like to see Dominic get a few minutes guarding James too. Young… if hot.. could be a game stealer. Of course it would be great to get a contribution from Andray, and help from Nick would be outer-planetary (don’t expect it, tho) — but, it’s the starters plus Mason and Songaila who will win this for us.

sorry i havnt been like usual when this blog started a few years ago. its great to see how it has grew. but for one hope all is well for your dad Dave. Hope to hear from you soon.
other then that glad the ref didnt blow the whistle the last play. i remember when the refs let the players play in the final seconds and its great to see that happen last night. i def think we deserved the win. the team that played fair really deserved it. unlike cleveland pushing us on every rebound. big ups to tough juice for showing his leadership. i just read this from the post:
Caron Butler: “Don’t judge this team by comments,†he said. “LeBron made a statement: ‘these guys are talkers’ but unless you hear something from the captains, which would be myself and Antawn, don’t label that as the team. I’m the voice of this team and Antawn is the spiritual and emotional leader so unless you hear it from one of us, keep it moving.â€
this guy has a big heart and its great to see him play like that on the big stage. have to say im rocking my butler jersey today!
