Game Day Cleveland – Game 2
6:06 AM….Dave Johnson checking in early and eager to get this one started….It was an upbeat mood at practice yesterday…Wizards know they had game one but let it slip away..we could question shots late…but one three point attempt by Jamison was in the flow of the game and he was wide open and more often than not that would have gone down….posturing going on…heard Cavs coach Mike Brown talk about LeBron James getting fouled when he drives but the fouls not getting called…he did get to the line 14 times…. when asked about what constitutes  a traveling violation after watching James on Saturday head coach Eddie Jordan smiled and offered no comment…sprained right wrist by Gilbert Arenas is a concern keep your fingers crossed….BLOGCAST starts at 7…radio and blogging and you can listen online too….check back later
1:14 PM… FantasticWiz checking in… just heard from this morning’s practice that Gilbert looked good and will play tonight.
6:17 PM…Dave Johnson checking in from the Q…….starters are in…..west, szczerbiak
ilgauskas, wallace and james….daniels, stevenson, haywood, jamison, and butler…
6:20 PM ..radio broadcast starts at 6:55….Eddie Jordan talks about managing Gilbert and Antawn’s minutes so theyr are fresh for the fourth quarter… and look for more double teams on LeBron to try to stop him before he gets going in the lane

Man, I feel sorry for the Wiz when they go back home because if they not gettin any love from some of our bloggers, they probably won’t at home either. I would feel embarrassed to have “on-and-off(ish)” type of fans. I thought that we were trying to keep players and not run them away. Last time I checked, players aren’t obligated to make every single shot – MJ wasn’t even obligated to do this.
And for people who are relying more on stats and not on watching the game, the CALLS (and no-calls) by the refs got bad in the third quarter and even worse in the fourth. I don’t know what the hell Mike Brown talkin about; if anything that was Arenas (in our last couple of minutes of the game) who weren’t getting any calls.
I know that it’s the play-offs and that it’s real easy to be mad at our players (because I was), but to not give any credit where credit is deserved is a bit too harsh. I didn’t know that Caron was supposed to pull out his extra set of wings and do something spectacular (because what’s expected of him is, I think, unhuman-like). Oh, lets get one of our best players injured again on top of his other injuries. If anything, I can say that I’m a bit hard on Stevenson right now, even with it being game 1. It’ll be good if he learned how to be more flexible as a player – I understand his defensive obligation, but surprise people by switching things up a bit – get away from the 3-point spots. I hope that Mason proves all of his “finger-pointers” wrong (which I know he will); Mason is a great player, we should be trying to keep him. I also hope that Stevenson could prove me wrong because this series IS about proving the doubter wrong…
GO WIZARDS!!

beeb, man just be real, you are too much thinking with your emotins if the cavs that bad with the injuries they had they managed to keep homecourt and beat the wizards in the regular season after the trade deadline with only 6 players and two Dleugue players. they blow us out when they were in a full strenght and we barely beat them by two in the Verizon ctr, well we just need to admit that they are good i dont wanna say they are better than the wizards but dam all that and we still saying that they are bad well the wizards are even worse that they cant beat a bad team.

Awful news about Gil. I am going to assume hes still going to go. I expect a much better game from Caron. For some reason, we always have the ‘jitters’. Tonight is a huge game for this team as a whole and I expect them to play to their potential. Love this team – cant wait til gametime!

Since responding to Majdi and Bridge allows me be distracted from work, then here goes. Majdi, I do think we are better then the Cavs from a talent standpoint. I’ve also sat directly behind Mike Brown during a game and I could write a column on how bad his coaching is. I miss the days when TV went into the huddle and embarrassed Dick Motta because Bickerstaff was clearly the X and O man. Bridge, of course I blog with my emotions. However, my pocketbook would say that my season ticket expense would justify that. However, while we certainly did not get the calls, in the end, our shot selection and rebounding failures were what lost the game for us. You can’t go long stretches without scoring and expect to win.

I wish I could have seen the game — seems like it was very exciting. I actually listened to the last 10 minutes on crackly AM radio from the boonies.
There is no point in avoiding the stats or in not being analytical. If you don’t analyze you don’t understand, and if you don’t understand you don’t have a way to improve.
If we’re the better team, we’ll win the series. If we’re not, they will win it. That is what “better team” means.
As to all this stuff about “the refs are against us” that’s just silly. If you shoot jump shots in early offense, the other team doesn’t get fouls called. Look at the season statistics for how often we went to the line — we’re in the middle of the pack I’m sure.
Lets play better and win!

Guys all we need is a split in Cleveland and we have this series. You know when the Cavs come to washington that the verizon center is going to be rockin…..we are gonna be harrassing Lebron all night long.. Tonight we have to make our free throws and take care of the basketball so cleveland cant get fast break points. If we do that I have no doubt in my mind we will be fine.

majdi, do you have 8 posts out of 12 on this blog??????? 3 posts between 10:10 am and 10:11 am? Sounds like a troll to me. Stop replying to yourself!!!
ANYWAY, I agree with Bridge about giving the players credit. I am VERY upset we lost, but I think we played very well in many areas. We held them to 39% shooting, even though defense was not perfect. Jamison had 19 REBOUNDS!!!!! WHAT A BEAST!! I know he missed the shots at the end, I know, but I’m not mad at him. He did everything he could to win the game, and then some. There are 9 players on the team, or 8, or who knows anymore… I can’t keep track with all the injuries! All I’m saying is the whole team shares the loss, not just Jamison for missing those 3′s.
I can’t wait for tonight. I told my husband I’m putting my head in the oven if we lose the series (the microwave). (kidding of course!)

Honestly you can, sometimes, get mad at the players, but man there’s no way you get mad at anyone after game one. How stupid would you feel if you said like now “well this team has no talent, it won’t go anywhere as long as it can’t hit a damn jumper which won’t ever happend!” and that we win the serie?? I’ve got a couple bets with friends concerning this serie and you know how horrible it is to see your friend after a loss well this time, despite being stupid enough to bet on a Cavs win, my “worst” friend wasn’t that happy, he said he wouldn’t start partying and usin my money as long as the serie wouldn’t have come to an end. Come on if a man who sincerly believes “king james” (hurts my fingers to write that) exists can say that we all can.
And there’s no way that majdi is a Wizards fan or even a fan…Just some guy who found that blog and thougt it was funny to disrespect the Wiz; thanks but the whole world’s taking care of that!

I hope they do double Butler again. Give it to Haywood or Jamison on the inside at every opportunity.
Jamison’s rebounding sure makes a statement about playing smart. It ain’t always the tallest or the biggest jumper that gets the ball.
Need some production at the two spot.

Ok, I just got back from one of my classes. I don’t know what being a season ticket holder has to do with anything, but…ok. That would, I guess, justify you as a fan – which is great…It’s great to be a fan. I can be a Bucks season ticket holder, but not be a Bucks fan; this is NOT to say that you aren’t a Wiz fan (because I know you are), but let me tell you something…I went to a game (from Milwaukee to D.C.) for the March 2nd Hornets game. I sat by a season ticket holder – he didn’t even know who Pech was. I wish that I had the luxury of traveling to D.C. at any time, but like you, I have obligations here. Maybe when I graduate, I’ll be able to make it to more Wiz games and cheer insanely loud for a team that I love that’s not my home team. You can make it to games, but when I can’t, I CAN make it to this blog to support my team verbally but in written form, as can every other blogger on here. When I get the chance to come more often to Wiz home games, hopefully I’ll be able to sit by you – but with living in Milwaukee, I find that kinda hard right now.
Who don’t blog with emotion; if there was no emotion, we probably wouldn’t be blogging. We all want this team to win, but with that, we all have different opinions. I didn’t see anything wrong with their jump-shots or rebounds whereas you did Beeb. I saw everything wrong with the ref calls whereas Tom did not. I’m not saying either that stats are tainted and/or wrong; I’m just saying that more is caught watching (a game) as opposed to in numbers. If numbers are sooo reliable, the Cavs should not have won that game. If numbers are sooo reliable, Gil would be living up to his number – but he’s not (in other words, he’s not a zero). If numbers are sooo reliable, Mason would be making more…I can analyze stats like you wouldn’t believe, but I just choose not to.
But that’s all I’ll say for today; maybe I should miss class again to be able to catch this game tonight…Oh yeah, obligations…just like you…
GO WIZARDS!! KICK THEIR A**ES!!

Ok we need to at least thank Antawn Jamison, Brendan Haywood, and Gilbert Arenas for showing up for game one. 24pts for gill is efficient, 24pts and 19rbs is what is needed from Jamison, and a double double for Brendan is great. Deshawn is not going 1 for anything tonight and expect caron to be a triple double threat like he has all season. What happened to attacking the basket in the second half, Brendan had a good first half and i dont think he was to involved in the second half. As soon as roger mason jr. starts to get foing and off set wally and daniel gibson. If you are a true wizards fan then you know that we need only one of te first 2 because when we get home we will destroy cleavend…… maybe gilbert can get some lebron calls.

If we can steal one tonight, its huge momentum, b/c the refs will swing the calls our way for games 3 and 4. The real question is can we execute down the stretch in crunch time or not. The key is Caron, and him adjusting to the double teams. Him and Twan are our best mis-matches at this point. I don’t count gil yet b/c he does not have his game legs back yet.

I feel good tonight for one major reason: Caron. I really don’t think the man can have two “bad (well let’s say a lil under average)” games in a row. And as all of you I read he’s especially focused, that’s good ![]()
And don’t dream, whatever happens the refs won’t ever give us anything. I know it’s hard to be objective as I’m a fan, but I really don’t think we will get away with anything for as long as we’re going against the Queen.

I’m sure the refs will blow the wistle a lot more rtonite than the first game to make sure that things don’t get out of hand… And as long as we are not setteling for jumpers than we should be fine. Ps I don’t no if we have any redskins fans here but I’m listening to the john riggens show on 94.3 and he’s ripping the wizards and gilbert arenas saying that we played with no heart and that we didn’t give off the impression that we wanted it more and that we are not a “team” when areans is playing and a whole bunch of nonsense! In a playoff series a team like the Wizards needs to get a win on the road so that they can win some more at home and then finish the series. They had a chance the other night and the only reason I can honestly say they blew it is because DeShawn Stevenson went and made those comments about LeBron being overrated. Okay sure we can sit here and argue that the Wiz still shoulda stopped him and that the refs were one-sided at the end of the game but let’s be real here for a second. What premier superstar in this league do you know let’s a guy just talk trash about him and then not retaliate (especially when this superstar has put your team out of the playoffs for 2 years straight)? Our guys gotta be smarter about what they say to the media man. At the beginning of the game LeBron was on lock and then he erupted because he was not going to go on record as being the “overrated” athlete that Stevenson said he was. Nothing more nothing less. Trash talk like that reminds me of when Raja Bell was trying to talk trash to Kobe. If you are going to talk trash to the big dogs, don’t get in there and let them walk all over you.

to whoeversaid we don’t have a big man: Jamison only had 1 3 pointer and 2 free throws so his points must be coming from somewhere else. Watch for his scoop shot in the post and his 10 boards a game. You do not have to be 7 feet to play big.

I don’t even know where to start. There are so many lapses on both the offensive and defensive end. Here are some of the problems.
1) No offensive rhythm: abandoning the offense.
2) Poor shot selection
3) Not taking care of the basketball
4) Losing the battle in the paint. Ilgauskas is killing us again.
5) Giving open looks to Gibson and Sczcerbiak.
It’s one thing if you allow open looks to jump shooters if you are containing LeBron, but they are getting burned by him too.

We can and have done so much better. I think we are getting flustered or something as time goes on. We started off GREAT, lets just go back there. And I never thought I would ever say this in life, but since Gil isnt really making his shot, take the ball out of his hands. Maybe this would be a great assist night for him. If he doesnt want to drive and if his wrist is bothering him, just PASS the ball to Caron or Antawn. They cant stop all three of you…

no, the refs calls are HORRIBLE! i wouldn’t even say the flagrant on varejao was flagrant, just a clean-hard playoff foul, but haywood’s definitely wasn’t a flagrant TWO! it’s only because it’s lebron and the refs give him the calls so he won’t cry. basically whenever we play the cavs it’s 5 vs 8.

The thing with that is, I can see our guys giving up and losing hope. They see what the refs are doing and it kills your spirit. When you are just down on your own merit, then you can muster up the strength to close the game out strong. We have come back from more against better teams. But when you know the refs are going to make all the calls against you, then why even bother

People – stop blaming the refs for making the Wizards be down by 20+. Everything that the Wizards learned about how to play better team basketball is completely lost now that Arenas is back. I’ve never been so upset at the team for playing 1 on 5 basketball during the last 4 minutes of Game 1 and all of the second half in Game 2. It is frustrating to lose, but blaming the refs is a cop-out response.
If the Wizards don’t wake up now from BAD BAD BAD basketball, not even a more friendly home crowd will help them in Games 3 & 4. Lastly, Wizards need to stop playing like THUGS. They’re trying to be the Bad Boys of Pistons and they’re making themselves look foolish on national tv.

We BARELY care. We probably just trumped this up as a loss and want to work on game 3, which is probably going to be without Brendan. And why are Caron and AD sitting. We could at least try to go down with some dignity

I know why Roger Mason is struggling so bad. His confidence is completely down because he knows that Gilbert is back and his minutes are going to be limited. Just like Blatche last month, when Songaila played very solidly, Andray went to the dumps.

That would be lovely. Just because this game is out of reach doesnt mean we have to just sit down and take it. The Hawks fought tooth and nail against the Celtics, and they lasted longer than we did. This is probably one of the worst games we have ever played

hey wizards fans…this is my first time blogging, but i have been reading the comments all year. What everybody is saying is right; the wizards are playing terrible. The refs arent on our side either. But I dont agree with the series being over….they are up 2-0 but we can come back. It is tough, but i think with eddie jordan and the wizard mentialty, we can come back. we did it against the bulls, so we can do it against clevland….i say lets take them to verizon center and beat them up and tie the series 2-2…with the fans supporting us, i think we can tie the series…
GO WIZARDS!
Lets TIE things UP!

We didnt execute on offense or defense. Rebounding was terrible. We gave up ENTIRELY too early. When you are only 4 minutes into the 3rd you DONT have to give in. Yeah things were looking grim, but we dont have to fold. we had PLENTY of time to turn things around and we just said, NOPE, I dont want to….

Last comment for the day – if the Wizards want to go somewhere in the postseason, they have to beat Cleveland. Any year; any round; with LeBron; without LeBron; with Arenas; without Arenas.
The best analogy I can come up with is how the 80s Pistons need to beat the Celtics to win the trophy. Once they got over the hump, they won 2 straight. Later on, the Jordan Bulls needed to beat the Pistons to win the trophy.
It is like a learning curve. I call it progression. The Wizards need to progress pass the Cavaliers. I don’t think the Cavaliers are more talented than the Wizards; but i do think the Cavs have a mental advantage over Wiz. Until Washington physically and mentally get over the Cleveland hump, there will be more games like tonight.

If we can win both games at home and even it up 2-2 then this games will FADE into the rearview mirror. We dont play basketball like this. This didnt get us to the playoffs. Just think: we would be WAY ahead of the Cavs in the regular season standings if we didnt have so many crippling injuries to Caron and AD and everybody else. When LeBron was injured, te Cavs lost EVRY SINGLE LAST GAME. Their supporting cast doesnt have it in them to win games without him. We have EVERYTHING we need to win this series, we just have to use them wisely and make better decisions. Come thursday I want to see some changes. we just need to play like we did in Game 1

This game/series is fixed. The NBA don’t want the Wizards to win . . we can’t make em enough money . . . so . . we get . . . situational officiating.
I’m tired of watching that big stiff “Z” travel and come over everyone’s back, I’m tired of watching “la-con” james beg up call after call and most of all, I’m tired of people dissing Gilbert . . . for cryin out loud, the guy has 2 major knee surgeries within a year and comes back to help the team and the announcers call him selfish and a lot of other BS . . .
God i wish i was 6’8 and 240 . . . i would put “queen” james straight on his a** if he came into the paint . . . Antonio Daniels get’s leveled and nothing . . . Caron Butler get’s called for “hand-checking” and get’s nothing when hammered going up for a shot . . .
Where is donahue when you need him? Oh . . .he’s passed the gambling tourch to the three stooges we saw tonight . . . .

It was a very depressing game. My wife and I are avid Wiz Fans, especially me, but this game was really awful. First of all, they let their emotions took over the game. I know it is very hard to leave your emotions out it, coz my wife and me are the same. Sometimes we are screaming on the tv because of the very bad call by the refs, and I am not saying this because I am a Wiz fan, but 90% of the time, the refs favor the Cavs. They have been playing with this team for 3 years now and everybody now should know that they are playing against 8 (5 players and the refs) so they should have prepared themselves for this. Don’t let their emotions decide how to play the game. Just play your game and eventually, evrything should fall in together. Unite and be a team. Play them wisely and smartly.

the cavs improved offensevly with ratio of 3:1 in assistes to turn overs, which bad for aplayoff team with three all stars. in adition to that they continue their momentum in the 4th of game one. even the fouls heart the wizards haywood gone the possesion got 5 points instead of two ot two free throws. i know one thing offense can win season games but defense win playoffs i mean where it counts.

Last word for the day:
I know it will be hard to leave this past game behind, but use this as a learning tools to keep your emotions intact and be ready to play smart on Thursday. Prove everybody, especially us fans that you are worth winning this series and worth cheering for. Play professionally and smartly, and us fans should support them no matter what. You guys could still do it. It is best of seven series and we can still do it. The fight is not over yet. Unless the balls turns square, there is still chance. The ball is round and everybody has a chance to win.

I didn’t see the whole game because I had a KoC meeting tonight and the tape ran out before the fourth quarter.
It looked to me that the Wiz just lost their poise and got all disjointed. Too many defensive breakdowns. It’s a shame because this is a really good team. The Wiz are much better then they have shown. They seem frustrated because Gil is nowhere near 100% and I don’t think Butler is either. Hopefully, Gil’s wrist will be better by next game. When he came in and couldn’t shoot, I think that let the team down a bit. I’m frustrated too about the bad luck this team has with injuries.
I suggest they try to play off of LeBron and make him a jump shooter. Just some tennis players need pace to play well and can’t handle junk, maybe if you play off of LeBron he won’t be able to drive so much where he is picking us apart.
After two games it doesn’t look so good, but if the Wiz manage to win game 3, it is a whole new series.
Let’s keep the language clean because I’m worried that they might close down this site if we get carried away.

I’m listening to the press conference right now and I’m very UPSET with what I’m hearing. Lebron and Mike Brown just made themselves seem like the victims, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Haywood will be suspended just based on those comments alone. Then EJ, when he speaks, it’s pretty frustrating to hear sometimes because he praises the Cavs and Lebron sooo much – I wonder if it takes away from his own team’s confidence…I understand giving credit, but to express this in “poem-like prose” is crazy.
We were let out of class early, so I was able to catch the game. After the Haywood ejection, things turned horrid; calls were still bad…Ernie looked very upset. Twan is saying it best by stating that they just weren’t “focused.” Other than that, I just don’t know what else to say, but I refuse to point any fingers…
I won’t be heard from in a while so just always cheer hard for our team because they need it. I’ll remain cheering and watching as well.
Just don’t make things too crazy—you crazy bloggers

Last night’s loss was disgusting. First we got the BS call that got Haywood ejected. Sure, it’s a hard foul anytime someone gets bumped while in the air, but flagrant 2? Are you serious? How many times did LeBron flop during that game last night? They should never call flagrant 2 in their favor again. Also, like I was saying before, DeShawn Stevenson cost us this series. All of that trash talk is uncalled for (especially when you can back it up. This dude hits a three pointer and is still down by 23 points and makes the “you can’t see me” sign. Of course we can’t see you idiot. We already left the arena or turned of the TV after you got down by 15. The media focused on Gilbert Arenas’ comments which I think was unfair. I understand what HE meant. He is saying that it is hard to beat out the same team year after year. It’s just not something that happens commonly. Of course people take it out of context like he is saying the Cavaliers are total garbage. Of course not, they beat us 2 (and a half) years in a row. I say Gil’s comments are justified, unless you expected him to get on TV and tell everyone that he predicts the Wizards to lose in four games. Kind of reminds me of when Plaxico Burress made his Super Bowl prediction and everyone gave him a hard time. Since when are you obligated to say that your team will lose?!!!!

man, caron and gil are too hurt to contribute and the series is over if brendan is suspended for one game, even if hes not our team is playing horrible ball right now and really needs to turn it around mentaly to have a chance. We should go back to guarding lebron one on one and let him get his(he will anyway) and try to minimize the role players contributions. If we can get back to running the ball and if we can stop getting caught up in the hype that our team brought on itself, maybe we can play like we have all year, so far we dont look like the team ive been watching all year, and now is not the time to go softly in that sweet night. Watching last nights game I was desperate for somebody to come off the bench pissed off and ready to score, ala jamison last year all series long alas it didnt happen, last chance to dance is coming up, I guess ill watch:(

Watching that last game showed us that the Cavaliers are worse than we thought or in Denny Green’s venacular “They are who we thought they were”. Tough Juice was not moving well, double team or no double team. Haywood looks like he can’t be stopped inside which causes you to wonder even more, why we settled for jumpshots. Stephenson’s 1-9 could be more of the 20% playoff shooting again. It’s great that Zero hit some outside shots but it’s clear he still doesn’t have the lift to the basket. How about someone deciding to rebound this game.
