8:03 AM…Dave Johnson chekcing in and ready to playoff blog…Just passed some of the players in the lobby. This is different starting this early but it is for a good reason. There has been a lot of talk about all the talk but I think we are past the point where who says what matters. Two years ago when the Wizards were healthy, while it was extremely disappointing, it was one of the best playoff series you will ever see. The Wizards most recent game against the Cavaliers was the 101-99 win on March 13 and they will need a defensive effort similiar to that game. As Caron Butler noted it is not about stopping LeBron, it is about making things difficult. Obviously we need to protect the paint and I think we have shown we can do that. It will be important to get out on shooters. The Cavaliers in the last meeting with the Wizards did make 13 3-pointers. And that brings me to the Wizards offense. As Antawn Jamison said–no quick shots—-the Wizards do not want to tee up LeBron James for a chance to run the floor and throw down a monster slam. I must be the dumbest man in history to have a date right at the same time as our first playoff game… Damn I thought we would play on sunday….
Anyway I’m so hyped up for tonight (it’ll be 6pm here in Switzerland and I’ll catch the replay of the game at 2am so it’ll be night!!). Most of the time before a Wiz game I’m like “well I know my Wiz are capable of the best as they’re capable of the worst but what are we gonna see tonight??” well for once I don’t feel like that, I know our guys are ALL gonna step up and provide amazing things!! I truely believe we can still at least one of the first two games and then win everything at home. Even though I’m broke right now if I was in DC I’d go to the game and I’d cheer for the team, and that’s what I expect all of you guys to do!!!!

atmospher is not as loud as it has been and i think that is because of the early start…they showed Gil on the big screen and the booing wasn’t that loud..they also put up Gil’s quotes but again the booing not as loud…which is good…because this place can get really loud

Big key for the Wiz if Stevenson can hit from from 3 point land. Last year he had a tough time. This year he made more big shots. If he can hit shots we should be in good shape. After all, the Wiz did beat the Celts 3 of 4 and the Celts are better that the Cavs -right?

Agent Zero is incredible.
Jamison is a magician the way he times rebounds and positions himself. And his inside shooting is wonderful. I wish he would forget the three pointers and just move around the paint.

You have to make shots to win. Gil tried to do too much and some of those possessions after the Wiz got the lead 84-82 were terrible. Did anybody see CB3 in this game? I sure didn’t. Mason played horrible too.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but Stevenson and Mason have to hit shots. Next game DeShawn needs to take it to the hoop a bit to change things up.
I think the Wiz were a little bit discouraged when their shots did not fall. There was not a lot of movement on offense the last quarter.

bad shot selection is always the reason wizards lose and thats what happened in the 4th qt. im not that mad though. Butler and Roger Mason and Songaila didnt really produce anything for our offense. but the cavs were getting all the calls. every little call. it never happened in the other end. did u see that drive in by Wally getting fouled by Haywood. so much bs. also when they called a foul on butler when both him and lebron went for the ball after the tipoff. all he did was fall to the floor.
Stevenson is really big factor for us to win. juss for him to play d and make 3’s and that rarely happened today. im not worried though. only arenas and jamison was doing good and we still managed it to be a close game. once everyone has got it going we will take this series. Butler needs to get into the game a lot more too

I agree with Joe. Just because Arenas is our best clutch player doesn’t mean he should forget about everyone else on the team when he gets the ball down the stretch.

One of the important moves in the game was the decision to double team Butler when he was alone with Wally. It worked. It slowed him down. The Wiz will adjust for the next game.
I think we are being hard on Gil. He got the ball to open shooters who just couldn’t hit the shots. If they hit those shots - the Wiz win this game. Sometimes it just comes down to making shots. Jamison was great, but you have to question his shot selection when he goes 1 for 8 from three.
I still think the Wiz should win. It is obvious the Cavs don’t have a lot except for LeBron and Ilgouskas and maybe Gibson. The refs were kind to Z today.
One more thing, if Daniels is going to only get 20 minutes a game I want him pressing West all over the court. Same with Mason.
Stevenson hit his last three. Hopefully, that will be the start of something good for next game. If he hits 3 three point shots, the Wiz will win agains this team. Mason needs to get it going too. But it is harder when you don’t get much playing time.

As I said before, I’d rather Jamison circulate around inside, rather than spend any time posting up behind the 3 point line. He’s too good down lower to waste his talents outside. And all our guards (except Daniels) are better at 3’s than him. That’s whether you look at tonight’s figures, the year’s, or career stats.
Yes, I think we’ll see Young Monday. Neither Stevenson nor Mason was hitting and Young isn’t bothered by any expectations. Maybe he’ll be looser. And if he gets going, he’s a real weapon.

We just caught the 1st playoff game shooting jitters. Stevenson needs to let the “hype” go and just play his game.. offensively and defensively (he has done a much better job on James in the past than he did today). You know (unless he is still hurt and we don’t know that yet) you are not going to keep Caron out of the mix for very long and Songaila will hit all the shots he missed today. Jamison and Haywood had very nice games.
I completely agree with ChenierFan’s earlier post. We missed a bunch of open shots in a row and it rattled us. We normaly make those shots, and I have no doubt, we will hit them in game two.
We need to get the one Monday to essentially give us home court advantage. I think the “jitters” will be gone Monday and the Wizards will have a “statement” game.

I have three adjustments after our loss in game one. First keep feeding Haywood the ball even in the fourth quarter. Second stop shooting all those three-pointers and attack the basket because Cleveland has 37 freethrows to our 17 frethrows. Thirdly just stop making all those TURNOVERS . WE HAS 13 TURNOVERS TO THERE 8 AND THAT MEANS TROUBLE. Thats about it because we rebounded well and made a good percentage of our freethrows so it looks good so far!

Maybe if the refs didn’t hand cleveland the win, it would have been a blow out. They kept it close on purpose in the first half where we should have been up at least 12-15 points. 4th quarter shooting at the end was horrible and I don’t know what Caron was doing but when he was on the court, he still wasn’t on the court. He did nothing all game.
As for Arenas, he played well until he thought he would be Michael Jordan. He should have looked to pass on those last drives to an open man but he didn’t. Overall, we should have a much better game 2.
