Game Day Chicago

9:23 AM ET….Dave Johnson checking in from Chicago….I am just very proud of this team. The Wizards have clicnhed their fourth consective playoff spot. As assistant coach Mike O’Koren said it has been a long journey. We found out on the first day of training camp Etan Thomas would need heart surgery. Eight games into the season Gilbert Arenas is out—-and this after we didn’t look so good in a five game season opening losing streak. Then there  were the injuries to Caron Butler and Antonio Daniels. Through it all this team has just stayed together and worked. Antawn Jamison sound like he will be back—maybe..that’s maybe tonight….but if not tonight..Wednesday ….and Gilbert against the Heat showed us even more…here’s hoping the best is yet to come…..BLOGCAST starts at 8:30 tonight…hope you can join us.

7:15 ET..Dave Johnson checking in courtside….Spalding Never Flat Winner time….tonight’s random winner is Frank Miller of Gaithersburg, Maryland……Frank wins the Spalding Never Flat pack…includes a basketball, football, soccer ball and volleyball.,,,just send your name and address to wizardspromotions@washsports.com

7:23PM…..word here is that Drew Gooden is not going to go because of a lower abdominal strain…..Antawn Jamison said today he would see how he felt shooting….but he may not go….This is the first back-to-back for Gilbert Arenas…he is okay but we will have to see if he goes tonight…

7:54 PM…….UPDATE…Antawn Jamison will NOT play tonight…sprined right shoulder—-Darius Songaila will start in his place…Gilbert Arenas will NOT play tonight….his left knee is fine..it is just a precautionary measure…..

That last game versus the Heat was a joke. The defense really needs to pick up on those outside shooters!

Comment from wizfan and the kid
Time April 5, 2008 at 2:36 PM

Phemy and buckeyes90… we certainly need to rotate to outside shooters, but honestly we won the game with the Heat making 19 threes.
I would rather see a team beat us by making 19 threes than kill us on the boards or drive and dunk on us. We lose when we give up the middle and do not rebound.

Any word on Thomas?

Comment from Tom Mandel
Time April 5, 2008 at 4:04 PM

True enough, but also please recall that there were very few real NBA players on the floor for the Heat.

Note that Alexander Johnson, who suffered a scary concussion in the 4th quarter, has been released from the hospital.

Johnson worked out for the Wizards before the ’06 draft, and Glenn liked him a lot. He was drafted in the 2d round, 3 picks before our turn. We might well have grabbed him had he been there.

In response to the matter posed on the last stream, yes Sloane would have given Arenas an earful for his grandstanding by coming onto the court late in his first game. And would have, before now, either gotten Arenas to play better team basketball or gotten rid of him. But Jordan is apparently not going to take Arenas on about it. Yes, I’d rather have Sloane, or 3 or 4 other coaches in the league. But that’s out of 30 in the league. Jordan’s an excellent coach and the guys I’d rather have already have good jobs.

So if Jordan is not going to use tuf love, is there an assistant coach who could/should? O’Koren? Ayers?

One thing that impresses me is that no one else on the team has his nose out of joint about Arenas. That speaks of a lot of character. They’re just letting “Gil be Gil”. None of them have an ego that’s going to create dissention.

Time April 5, 2008 at 5:29 PM

NEAL
I would rather have Etan continue rehabbing and getting his body ready for
next year and then the medical staff can reevalute him at that time. I know
it may sound I’m really cautious and that would be true I am when it comes to
him! I think we as a team can defend the three ballers better but that has to come
from the teams veteran leadership”Butler,Jamison,Arenas,Daniel and Stevenson”.
I would also put Haywood in the mix but he is rarely out of the box area!Lets get the
communication flowing again so everyones on the same page! Good Luck !

Block then Run!

Steal then Run!

Penetrate then dish to the Three-Baller!

0 Defend the Threeballer!

Rotate the ball to open man!

0 Play disciplined with few Bonehead Turnovers!

Win The Game!

I ain’t even on all this serious stuff right now – we WON! All my guys out there did great. Would anyone on here ever have just ONE good thing to say. Personally, I think that Gil is coming along on his defense and that his overall performance is great.

We finally got a bit of sun here in Milwaukee so I’m enjoying it – bumpin my music in my car. I think that I’m an aspiring rapper or something; I think I’d go by…”Bridge Mix…”

I can’t wait till this game tonight. And neal, the Bulls are NOT the “Dulls.”

Pretty sure I’ll be blogging tonight –

I like the line-up they had with Blatche in there. I like Nick and all, but…I just feel like there’s a lot of favoritism shown towards him. It is sooo obvious (from yesterday’s game) that Dray really looks up to Gil – like some sort of brother or something, but that don’t really matter do it cuz most of everyone’s attention is on Nick…

Just my opinion though…

i think so but we can tie it up the next time we play them

Comment from Reuben

We must win against Philly otherwise I don’t think we can be the 5 seed.

Comment from TAG FLIP
Time April 5, 2008 at 7:53 PM

i think when we have 2 of our big 3 not playing, tonight being jamison and arenas, with butler in there by himself tonight, i think he brings much more intensity than jamison does. butler is a much better all-around player than antawn jamison so i think he will be able to motivate the guys by his play as well his words. nothing against jamison but because butler is more aggressive.

I retract my statement. It looks like Andray is going to bring it. At least on the rebounding front.

Nice game by Brendan, Darius, Andray, Antonio, Roger (especially!), and Caron. We dominated the boards, shot a higher percentage and would have blown them out of the building except for 18 turnovers — still had 5 more shots on basket.

Altogether very very nice — and esp. for Philly and Toronto to oblige us by losing! Awright. Get some rest and beat the Celtics — how sweet it is!!

With a 2 game lead over Toronto w/ only 5 games left, and owning the tiebreaker, it now seems unlikely that we’d fall to 7th in the East.

If we beat Philly next week, that’ll likely make the difference between being 6th and playing Orlando or being 5th and playing Cleveland.

Nothing but praise going to the Big Guy. You played with passion, purpose and determination. This is the smart inside presence I have been waiting for. You assisted
the ball to the shooters when it wasn’t there and you made them pay with the high percentage dunks and layups! Lets keep showing you veteran leadership and just play smart ball through out the remaining games! I hope everyone gets some treatment at the facility to fix all thoughs nicks and cuts! Good Luck!

I love the black and gold colors. They represent honor, valor, sacrifice and we wizards
fans have seen plenty of all three this year. I would like to take a vote to see if we can wear this special uniform again against Boston and Philadelphia! This is the uniform that the world knows the Wizards for when Agent Zero dropped the 60 point bomb on Kobe and that was very very special! That made my year Of Course! What are your opinions on this Bloggers!

Nice to come back home in the morning and to find out that we’ve won, and especially without ‘Tawn and Gilbert. The only informations I got are from the boxscore since I couldn’t find the game anywhere and it seems like *everyone* played pretty well. One of the things that shocked me are the turnovers…. I mean 18 turnovers that’s kind of high! But anyway we had to get that W as we’re about to have 5 tough tough games (okay indy might not be that tuff but still) and as you guys I don’t want the 5th spot, I want homecourt advantage!!! Can’t wait for antawn’s return on wednesday on national tv that’ll be great (let’s hope they rest their big three…).

Seems to me like we played a great game…especially Haywood…i wasnt able to see the game…I knew we could beat these guys…

Its great to have the 5th back in our hands and now we control our destiny if we can win the rest or atleast most of our games we should be able to beat out Cleveland for the 4th spot…

I think we can beat the Celtics…first we can beat them when they have a full squad…secondly…they’re resting KG, Ray, and Pierce alot…..so they shouldnt something we cant handle

GO WIZARDS

I was looking at 3 pt figures – thought I’d share them with you.

Percentage of 3 point shots made:
Mason .391
Young .387
Stevenson .372
Butler .365
Jamison .336
Pecherov .269
Arenas .267
Blatche .231

The Celtics subs will be fresh, eager, and relaxed. We’d better come out with energy.

Pecherov hasn’t really shown anything this year… too bad.

We should be pretty fresh too, and yes we’d better go out and win this game.

Comment from neal
Time April 7, 2008 at 10:11 AM

The above isn’t really fair to Arenas. His career average is .358.

Comment from Tom Mandel
Time April 7, 2008 at 11:05 AM

Gilbert is 5 for 8 shooting 3pointers in his 2 games back. That’s .625 — we’d like him to keep up that pace, yes?????

Comment from neal
Time April 7, 2008 at 11:35 AM

Yes, I’m for that.

I wish Pecherov would concentrate on other than 3 pointers for now. Once he gets confidence in the rest of his game he can try some long range shots again. Besides, I’m afraid he’s going to hit a rafter every time he tries one.
