Game Day Heat
5:37 AM …Dave Johnson checking in…..Just have to move on….I got up yesterday hoping Wednesday was just a bad dream–except of course for the part about Gilbert Arenas coming back…..Arenas did practice yesterday…it was a light practice but still encouraging that Arenas was not complaining of any soreness….Eddie Jordan was not part of the practice.. he was home with a sinus infection…..Assistant coach Mike O’Koren who ran the practice hinted that Arenas might come off the bench again but also said it would be Eddie’s call…and no it’s not fair that suddenly Antawn Jamison and DeShawn Stevenson—the only two Wizards to play in every game this season—are now injured…It sounds like Stevenson is going to try to play on his sprained ankle but that Jamison likely will be out with the sprained right shoulder…..Again win and we are in the playoffs….BLOGCAST starts at 8 PM..hope you can join us
12:07pm Sportzwiz checking in. Here’s a quick shootaround update.
Antawn did not go through shootaround and I would put his chances of playing tonight as highly doubtful. He will be speaking with the media between 5:30-6:15 tonight so we will have an update on how he is recovering from the injury. This will be the first time he speaks publicly since the injury occurred
DeShawn also did not go through shootaround but he was at shootaround, he said the ankle is still a little tender and has a little swelling but he is going to try and give it a go tonight. He said if it was bothering him before the game, he would sit out but he definitely doesn’t want to.
Head Coach Eddie Jordan has a sinus problem/flu like symptoms and did not make it to shootaround but he should be arriving to the arena around 2:30 and should coaching tonight. Coach O’Koren ran shootaround in his place.
7:45 Dave Johnson checking in…starters are in…no Jamison…so Songaila starts with butler, haywood, daniels and yes stevenson will play….Heat with quinn, cook, davis, barron, and blount
8:00PM….Spaldom Never Flat Random Winner…..Juan Garicia of Reston, Virginia…and i think he is a blogger…again just send your name and address to wizardspromotions@washsports.com
Spalding Never Flat Pack includes a basketball, football, soccer and volleyball…

the party looked fun. people are criticizing him for having a party after a loss. it is the man’s birthday. i could see if this were a playoff game, but though it was a serious game the man should have the right to celebrate his birthday. someone said would the spurs do this? who are u skip bayliss! lol. tony parker threw parties. it doesn’t even seem like it was a wild party. another blogger spoke of deshawn using cocaine references…. give me a break. tony yayo used that as a cocaine reference, deshawn just does it to celebrate a shot, its not like he is saying i just made a 3′ im high on cocaine,or try some coke kids! just like us he saw it on tv and he though it was funny be probably didnt know the meaning. or maybe he stole it and turned into his own. “i cant feel my face”. ne way go wizards! and whats up with blatche, been very quiet lately. THIS IS A MUST WIN dont play for the seeding play for the respect. no team should get overlooked. cause u might just get what u ask for

Quick update from shootaround. Antawn did not go through shootaround he will most likely not play tonight. However, he will be meeting with the media between 5:30-6:15 tonight so we will have an update on his overall status then.

Why Songaila to start instead of Blatche, w-s07? Andray had an excellent game against the Bucks; Darius not so much.
The party looks like it was fun — it’s fine to have a birthday party after a loss.
I hope Antawn heals easily. Shoulder injuries are tough. Right now, he is the Wizards’ best player; we’ll have trouble winning without him.

Hey everybody, thank’s for the update SportzWiz.
I won’t be able to blog, watch the game or do anything actually but I’ll be thinking about it for sure as tonight should be a good game for Gilbert. He needs playtime, but he isn’t really ready to play for this team right now so a game against the Heat should provide him some time on the court. Still we HAVE to get this one and not just because we’re on the hunt for the playoffs….
Cheer for me guys, and, of course, GO WIZARDSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Whether it’s Songaila or Blatche, neither is consistent like Jamison. I always wonder whether they’ll have one of their good games or one of their poor ones.
I’ve watched recently the way Jamison moves to the ball to get rebounds. On the other hand, Haywood usually looks like he’s standing flat-footed. Jamison gets almost as many, even though he’s usually coming from further away.
Rebounds per 48 minutes:
Thomas (career) 13.3
Haywood 12.6
Jamison 12.4
Blatche 11.9
McGuire 10.8
Songaila 8.5
Pecherov 8.4
Butler 8.1
Of course, McGuire and Butler wouldn’t be expected to get as many because they’re playing SF.

Even w/o Jamison and Stevenson we should beat the Cold tonight. As a matter of fact, Pecherov and four hot dog vendors should do the trick.

Bridger here…Right now my life sucks because I’m on campus doing some homework that requires me to be here..on campus – I’m sooo excited (not). Anyway, I’m almost done (for today at least), so I’ll be at home watching the game and blogging.
Thanks SportzWiz for your lovely information/coverage on our guys. I’m glad that it’s nothing too too serious….
Ummm…brain freeze…I don’t know what else to say (right now). It’s because of all this damn work lol. Well, I guess I do have something else to say:

He also said he definitely thinks he will be back worse case scenario for boston. So very good news on that front.

The offense really looked good. Do you think Arenas will continue to assist so well? If he gets all that talent channeled into being the complete PG…….
Well, we’ll see if we’re this good against better teams.
Seems to me teams are purposely trying to shoot 3’s against us.

Breaking down Agent Zero.
Well he definitely has quickness beyound recognization.
Secondly he has the range of 24 to 26 feet for easy threes.
Thirdly he makes smart leader passes by making everyone on the court
his offensive target with quick crisp assists.
Finally he draws two and sometimes three players attention when he is on the court!
However he doesn’t have his crossover/ fadeaway Hinrich jumper back yet nor does his mid-range rhythm jumper seem perfect yet but it’s coming! He still can be the best penetrator in the league when he wants to for layups and dunks plus AND1’s.
I would like to see him hit his jumpers off the glass like Tim Duncan to see if he still has that skill! The skys the limit for the Agent and his confidence grow every day.
Comment from AUNDRA

Breaking down Agent Zero
The second part of the analysis consist of is defensive prowlness!
Agent Zero has yet to be a defensive steal juggarnut because he led the
league or was at the top of the list in STEALS! Second he has yet to block
any defenders shots but has been in the plus ratio when in the game.
Thirdly the turnover King has made very few mistakes and I for one am very
proud of the Statistic.

That was entertaining to watch. Gilbert had a very very nice game. Pretty efficient shooting, and then 5 rebounds and 8 assists in 20 minutes. Nice stuff!
Haywood and Blatche had tremendous games. Andray went 7-8, and one of his buckets was 3 pointer. Can’t get much better than that! If he could just stop fouling!! Caron played very well, no surprise.
Haywood had an enormous game. He completely controlled the middle and played good offense as well.
I got nervous when Miami hit so many 3s in the 2d half. With nothing to lose, they played very loose.
Great to get the win; now lets go get te Bulls.

Fans I would like your comment on Tom Knotts article called
Arenas is back Along With Poor Defense.

This guy seems to be letting Agent Zero have it . I mean he is insanely
unloading all this rage out . The comments are they justifiable or does he have
something against Arenas !

Well, so far at least Gilbert hasn’t played any defense whatsoever, and his ability to move laterally does appear to be limited right now, as Knott mentions.
I’m not worried about his current physical limitations, which he will put behind him. And I did note last night that he concentrated on seeing the floor and passing; he only shot when he had a good shot available to him.
But, the problems that Knott points out are, in fact, the issues with Gilbert. We just gave up 110 points to the Milwaukee Bucks and 19 3-pointers to the Miami Heat. That’s not a level of play that will work against the Detroit Pistons, perhaps our most likely opponent (and maybe the one we should want) in the first round.
On the other hand, if Songaila, Blatche and Mason could play every night the way they plated against the Heat last night, watch out!

Unfortunately, I agree with most everything Knott says (and most people have been unwilling to say). I completely disagree with “he’s just a spot-up shooter” and I haven’t focused or noticed a lack of lateral ability. But most importantly, I still think Arenas is a work in progress. It’s true he’s full of himself, but it doesn’t follow that he’s selfish. He seems to have bought into the team concept on offense. Maybe he’ll do that on defense at some point.
Wouldn’t it be great to beat the Dulls? Go Wiz!

AUNDRA: That article was harsh. Many of the prima donna comments are true in some respect, but Gil is a superstar. And I think a lot of the things he does are fun, silly, and entertaining.
But to get so down on him for his first game back???? That is a little too much, if you ask me. YES he has not been a great defender in the past, but give him more than ONE GAME BACK FROM 2 KNEE SURGERIES to prove himself! I believe he can learn to be a better defender. His work ethic is second to none. Give the man a chance to improve! The rest of the team has learned, why not Gil??? YES they all need to play defense more consistently. But that is the criticism of the entire team, not just of Gil.
Anyway, last night’s game showed a much better Gil, and maybe will shut up his critics a little bit… for a few minutes at least?
See you tonight for the Bulls! Hope we get this one…

Gilbert has great “eyes” — his assists last night reflected an uncanny ability to see where people were going from every direction and zip the ball to them. The more he concentrates on that, the more people are going to try to defend his passing lanes, giving him a little more room for open shots. In short, the guy is hard to defend!
Looking at him set up on defense right now, you can see that he sets up very wide; in principle that seems good, but he is so wide that you get the sense that he doesn’t trust his lateral reactions yet. I could be wrong…
