Game Day Utah

Dave will be checking in soon, but I wanted to give everyone the chance to talk about tonight’s game. Tough loss last night for the Wiz, just a great comeback once again, but this one fell a little short. Huge plays by N. Young down the stretch same with CB and DeShawn. Gotta be very happy with how this team has played out west and hopefully they can end it on a positive note against Utah. Obviously it wont be easy as Utah is one of the best teams out west. The last time these teams met up Utah came out on top 96-87, but the Wiz were without Caron in that loss.

12:59ET…Dave Johnson sending greetings from snowy Utah….that was just a well played game last night….high assists and low turnovers for both teams…Wizards down by 17 in the 3rd…tied by the end of the quarter….and almost pull it out….it was disappointing to lose but the effort and execution was there…just made two mistakes in overtime…a turnover and not getting rebound on Kobe missed free throw…..last game of the road trip…Antonio Daniels sprained wrist..will have more later…BLOGCAST starts at 9 ET..hope you can join us

5:37 ET…DJ checking in again…doubtful Antonio Daniels will play tonight because of sprained left wrist….Roger Mason probably will get the start…..going over to the arena in about an hour check in then

8:44 ET….Update…not good news…Caron Butler is a no go tonight with a sore left hamstring….and no Antonio Daniels with a sprained left wrist…though Daniels says he thinks he will be able to go Wednesday…..so lineup mason, stevenson, haywood, blatche and jamison….no Kirilenko tonight(calf injury)  and no Ronnie Brewerso it will be williams price okur, boozer and miles

8:50 ET…Spalding Never Flat random winner time….tonight’s winner is Dasha King of Milwaukee, WI….Dasha wins the Spalding Never  Flat Pack which includes a basketball, football, volleyball, and soccer ball….if you ahve not done so send your name and address to wizardspromotions@washsports.com

I won tickets to Wednesday’s game!!!! yay!!!!

Utah may be the toughest place to win for a road team in the NBA, with Golden State being second. Thus, this game is a bigger test for the Wizards than last night’s contest at Staples.

During the last meeting, the Wiz had 12 assists as a team and Deron Williams had 12 assists by himself. Ball movement and rebounding are two things I’m going to look for.

It’ll be nice for Washington to end the road trip with a win. Also, this week’s games are very favorable, so I hope everyone stays motivated and concentrated. Guys can get up for the Lakeshow and Jazz, but they also need to put the Bucks and Heat away to maintain playoff momentum.

Lastly, Arenas made some bold comments about $ and contracts. I’m pretty sure if the team wants both #0 & #4 back, Ernie Grunfeld will make fair offers to both and both will sign on the dotted line. Gil keeps adding the disclaimer of going to a contender. Well, the Wiz aren’t a bad team at all and can certainly contend in the East; thus Arenas’ talk may just be the “drama” he keeps mentioning. So, as Wizards fans, we should calm down a bit because I don’t think there is anywhere else where Gil can be “the man” and play his style other than Washington.

  3. gee wiz Says:

ya’ll gonna hate me for this but imma say it….. nick young should have kicked the ball out to stevenson for that last shot instead of attempting a contested fadeaway. steveson already made 8 treys at the time why not 9. now my knock on stevenson again is effort. when picks come stevenson does not even try to run threw them or around them nor does he try to catch back up on the opponent. secondly he never runs back on defense on fast breaks unless he is at the top of the key. other than that deshawn is my boy. and his whole career he was a slasher now he makes 3’s and never slashes. gotta drive more. someone said were going to lose against the jazz, (ant, tom) but every game is winnable. we beat the celtics, pistons, hornets, cavs and magic, y not the jazz. well it will be hard without AD, but at least deshawn can gaurd d williams now that AD is out. hey….. i think gil and deshawn should have that contest again, deshawn is nearly automatic with an uncontested’ 3

  4. Phemy Says:

    Let’s do this!

  5. AUNDRA2007 Says:

We battled extremely hard but we lost to probably a championship caliber team in the Lakers. They have three-point shooters galore, pentratrators”Kobe & Farmar”, A Big man inside in Bynum and great forwards in Odom Walton,Sasha. We played great no problems!Keep up the great intensity!
    .

  6. Bridge Says:

This is kinda off topic, and I meant to mention this earlier, but if Gil thinks that he had the bomb birthday party for his “little one” then he haven’t seen nothing yet.

    *A part from his blog:
    “That was the bomb. I spent a total of $30.” - http://my.nba.com/forum.jspa?forumID=400032200

Well, I guess I had the…atomic (yeah, that’s a good word) entertainment when my little brother and sister came over recently.

    *Me:
That was the atomic cuz I spent a total of…BAM(!)…$25.02 - $25.02!! I mean, I try not to be cheap, but sometimes it’s good to be cheap ya know. My bro and sis ain’t mad at me; hell they couldn’t be happier actually - they had everything they needed. I’m what you call “occassionally cheap,” meaning, sometimes I am, sometimes I’m not. I could’ve just rounded that to $25.00, but since I’m feelin a little cheap right now I’m making every penny count, so $25.02 -

Lol…Obviously I got a lot of time on my hands - but that is based on a true story….

  7. LilGil Says:

The real thing is that we have to find a way not to need a great run in the third to win… I mean we did it against the Lakers like we did it against weeker teams but later we all seen that you can maybe get a run against any team but get the win out of a *great* run well that’s just not possible against one of the best teams.
Let’s hope Utah doesn’t wake up and win by 30 tonight, they’re home and that’s gonna be…. hard. I hope the guys aren’t too tired and that lossing yesterday just made ‘em more angry!
    GO WIZARDS!!!

  8. LilGil Says:

Btw, lol Bridge, you’re crazy ;)

  9. Bridge Says:

No, but really, my night class was canceled today so….I get to watch the game…and on time while blogging!

I really think that we could win this though like gee wiz said.

Everybody did a hell of a job yesterday, but like I was saying - those refs were full of it. Refs don’t like us y’all.

There’s a lot of mixed reactions about what Gil said in regards to sacrifice and Tawn, but it takes a lot to do that and I respect him (even more) for that. If it were my choice, everyone would be staying - I hope everyone does…

    GO WIZ!!

  10. Bridge Says:

    :)

  11. neal Says:

I agree completely. We’ve got 4 free agents after this year. Arenas (unless he exercises his option), Jamison, Mason, and McGuire. I hope EG resigns them all. Plus our two draft picks.

Seems like several times we have come back after a tough loss to get a win the next night. Seemed to generate determination rather than discouragement.

I noticed last night that Blatche comes in for dunks holding the ball with one hand. He’s got to use both hands or he will continue to get them blocked. Even if he gets a foul called, it’s not good.

    Go Wiz!

  12. wizards_fusion Says:

DMac is coming back for cheap. No worries. Besides, Nick can’t go on with the VLOG without his roommate.

Mason has shown he’s a solid contributor off the bench. Roger shoots threes and free throws well and every team needs a player like him. If Roger wants more than 2 million per year, I don’t think Ernie’s going to bite. The only saving grace for Roger to stay is for him to look at being close to his family over money. That’s hard to do when you’re a pro athlete. I would love Mason back for 2-3 more years. Maybe him taking a paycut now will payoff later - like what DeShawn did.

Arenas and Jamison are no brainers. Keep them, milk them for a championship (or more), and have their jerseys retire at VC in 20 years.

I can see Gil not spending a lot of money on stuff because he is somewhat a business man. The Foot Locker at Madison Square Garden had 14 out of his 20 GilZero variations! Gil’s not like Shaq with money - ESPN showed that Shaq spends $25,000 a month on gas for his cars (info that was released to the media during Shaq’s divorce proceedings).

  13. GrifonRacing Says:

Wizards Fusion… How the heck far does Shaq have to drive???? lol

  14. DJ-WizardsRadio Says:

5:37 ET…DJ checking in again…doubtful Antonio Daniels will play tonight because of sprained left wrist….Roger Mason probably will get the start…..going over to the arena in about an hour check in then

  15. neal Says:

Mason is making the league minimum for a guy with his number of years in the league ($770,610). Mason will be 28 in September. He won’t take another minimum contract. He needs this to be his big contract. I imagine that will be $2-3 million per year over 3-4 years. I hope we’re the ones to give it to him.

I hope Arenas suits up and sits on the bench in case of emergency. Or maybe not so much of an emergency - who else would spell Mason at PG?

  16. wizards_fusion Says:

GrifonRacing - I think Shaq has a real tank that he drives! LOL. Oh, and he’s got like 250 cars or something.

Neal - Stevenson can play PG and move Nick Young to SG.

  17. natsdude562 Says:

    gbkdc…..howd u win tickets???????? lets hope to get another W tonight…GO WIZARDS….

  18. SportzWiz Says:

Team will have to overcome two starters out as CB3 is also out for tonight’s game with a left hamstring strain.

  19. DJ-WizardsRadio Says:

8:44 ET….Update…not good news…Caron Butler is a no go tonight with a sore left hamstring….and no Antonio Daniels with a sprained left wrist…though Daniels says he thinks he will be able to go Wednesday…..so lineup mason, stevenson, haywood, blatche and jamison….no Kirilenko tonight(calf injury) and no Ronnie Brewerso it will be williams price okur, boozer and miles

  21. Bridge Says:

    WHAT; I WON!!! I’M SHOCKED!!

I would just like to thank a couple of people:
The DJ for the “lucky” draw that took only about 10 people before I won (lol)
The Wiz organization for this being possible
Gil for being one of the faces of Spalding
My mom for making me beautiful
    Myself for being so smart
My fellow bloggers for not being haters

I just noticed this because I was on the phone with my mother…

    Shout-out to DJ - THANX!!

  22. buckeyes90 Says:

Anyone know how serious CB3’s and AD’s injuries are?

  23. Bridge Says:

Man, and my boy Caronimo is injured. I hope he’s not out too long (although I do want him to heal fully). He just plays so hard - he’s a warrior!

And AD; I think it showed last night how much he’s needed in the game. He needs rest (because he’s been playing his a** off), but I love seeing him out there; I hope he’s back soon also.

We can still win - GO WIZ!!

  56. DJ-WizardsRadio Says:

  57. DJ-WizardsRadio Says:

Wiz look tired and fatigued, Nick looks real tired, mentally and physically after laying it all on the tablr last night.. this is something he has to get used too, back to backs!

  58. Bridge Says:

  64. DJ-WizardsRadio Says:

    young great energy!!!!

  65. Bridge Says:

We still got a chance (I think)…We haven’t lost yet - I’ll be that fan that gets ejected from a game like this fan did: http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/category/nba-gossip/

    (just stroll down a bit)

    That was funny…

  66. ant62789 Says:

yea me 2..ill be like “Come on Got Damn ref”..U f***** blind or sumtin..He just F***** walked”..lol

  67. Da_Big_Taba Says:

the reason why we are losing is because of blatche. every team has a bad player on their team and blatche and pecherov r those players. we started blatche and blatche hasnt been doing anything in so long. he always get blocked and cant handle the ball and creates so many turnovers. were is butler. i hope his injury isnt too serious.

  68. Bridge Says:

I disagree with that. How do you define “good?”

I’m not for blaming people - who was the reason then for the Mavs (last season with their almost perfect record) losing to GS?

  69. DJ-WizardsRadio Says:

    need to find some energy

  70. preciouspaul Says:

Da_Big_Taba I think bad is the wrong word. I think we have some players who have some growing to do. Young, Blatche, and Pech. The youngsters will get better at ball handling. Its part of being young in the nba. I can’t stand the way we look without Butler right now. We did okay after we figured it out. But he is such a big part of the identity. We are much tougher with him.

  71. preciouspaul Says:

We have suffered some band blowouts this season.

  72. ant62789 Says:

we tired..after the ot game in la and then coming to play utah…come on now you have think we dont have energy

  73. preciouspaul Says:

    Toronto and Cleveland stick out

  74. preciouspaul Says:

cool only down by 30….ha ha

  75. neal Says:

Well, I hope our guys are learning from this clinic on team basketball. I’m really envious. Gotta hand it to Sloane.

All our rookies get stripped too often. I guess they’re not used to playing against NBA caliber players.

I don’t think Mason is aggressive enough in going after loose balls. I’d like to see him get on the floor a couple of times. Maybe it’s not in keeping with his cool demeanor.

Or maybe I’m just in a sour mood.

  76. ant62789 Says:

  83. ant62789 Says:

    ok

  84. DJ-WizardsRadio Says:

wiz just a step slow…too many tos

  85. Jason C Says:

just got in, are we just tired?

  86. Bridge Says:

Wow, interesting fact that they said: in 2001 Stevenson was in the dunk contest and second to Des. Mason (who won).

    I never knew that…

  87. Bridge Says:

We look tired and hopeless, but mostly hopeless…

  88. Bridge Says:

    Heres the link

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZNjroWCWdbY

  89. buckeyes90 Says:

You know, i really don’t feel that bad about this game. They certainly could have done better, but there are some things that have to be taken into account here. They’re tired and the road trip has been a tough one. They’re missing 2 of their key starters in gilbert and Cb3 and they’re also missing AD who has been awesome with gilbert out. Also, Utah is playing out of their minds. It’s insane how well they’re playing tonight. I just hope this doesn’t get in the Wizard’s minds too much.

  90. buckeyes90 Says:

Like I said, they’re playing out of their minds tonight =/

  91. Wizfan4life Says:

well this is an ugly loss for us tonight…..hey dave and glenn, is there anyway i can stop by the radio booth wednesday night and say hello?

  92. ant62789 Says:

bridge did u check it out

  93. Bridge Says:

    Yep, nice layout!

Hey, at least the refs seemed pretty fair this time - they didn’t really hate us…

Nice blogging with y’all; game day Milwaukee is next

    Goodnight people…

  94. DJ-WizardsRadio Says:

came down near the court….about an hour before the game and tell the usher you wnat to say helloo

  95. Jason C Says:

yeah we won the games we were supposed to on this road trip, except maybe for that portland game, but its pretty much a wash, as I do not see us having a good shot at catching cleveland at this point, but EJ has to shore up our playoff lineups and get our guys healthy.

  96. Wizards4Life Says:

that was not a good game because we lost but i don’t think we can say much this was not a crap team and we still got the same Ole problems with guys hurt and all this stuff its not going to be easy to get good play from Bench guys playing a Jazz team that’s at the top of the west playoffs i missed the blog but this is my team i will always watch the game down by 2 or 100 no matter… keep your heads up guys all of you and the blog guys too the radio guys we need to keep cheering our team even when the bandwagon lost its wheel

  97. wiz-skins07 Says:

    horrible…horrible..game…

i know TOM wont be impressed not even with Nick’s numbers just b/c it wasnt in a winnning effort

  98. neal Says:

Did you guys notice how the Jazz moved on offense? Guys without the ball were dashing all over. They were MOVIN IT. By contrast, our guys looked like they were just waiting to see what the man with the ball would do. Standing around or just trotting to a different position. In comparison, we looked like we were in slo-mo.

Or maybe I’m just in a sour mood.

  99. Phemy Says:

mh…i fell asleep in the halftime, but guess i didn’t miss that much :\
No rebounds, no ball movement/assists, damn! And these 3s once again - damn they hurt us.

Hope CB and AD get well soooooon, and maybe gil comes back to the next game!

  100. neal Says:

Can someone tell me the definition of “Princeton offense”? If I hadn’t known we were the ones playing it I would have thought Utah was the one using it.

What do you guys think about Pecherov shooting 3’s?

  101. Tom Mandel Says:

Nick played ok. Roger played really well. Antawn too. Otherwise, a mess.

We were a *very* dinged up team, a very tired team as well. We had no real chance last night.

We went 2-3 on the road trip; we had a great chance to win one more. Not the end of the world. Lets have a rest and win some more games!

  102. LilGil Says:

Oh my god…. I couldn’t wake up last night I was just to tired of staying up all night for the LA game. But I didn’t expect that… actually I thought this game was in some way similar as the lakers game as this team could probably “wake up” against us you know and that’s pretty much what they did…. In the mean time how could we win without Caron on the second night in a row and without Gilbert of course…. Now we just gotta forget Utah (at least maybe until the finals, the maybe stands for them as I know we’ll be there!!).
