Game Day Portland
Considering it’s 7:00a.m. out West, I will get today’s gameday blog up and running. Big game coming into tonight against Portland. Portland comes in with a 37-34 with the Wizards having a slightly higher winnning pct. The toughest part of today’s game will be Portland’s home court advantage.
The Trail Blazers are 14 games over 500 this season at home!!! So the Wizards will need to bring the same effort they had against Detroit in order to come out with the W. Check back throughout the day as Dave will be checking in with his thoughts on tonight.
7:30 AM PT…Dave Johnson checking in….we are in Portland..it only seems like we should be in Japan…long flight yesterday because of head winds..I think inclduing a refueling stop we were on the plane about 7 hours…..but easier to take a long trip when the team is 3 games above .500. The Wizards have created their own form of March Madness….would like to continue the road trend…there was the OT win @Tor…..the Florida sweep…but a west coast swing is a whole different challenge..Caron Butler is clearly getting his swagger back…Antawn Jamison’s consistency is something to truly marvel at… and I had this discussion with my broadcast partner Glenn Consor last night….Brendan Haywood has been a difference maker on defense…he is just doing a wonderful job of protecting the paint…..and you know Domenic McGuire is starting to fill the role of rebounder/defensive energy player that Michael Ruffin used to give us….BLOGCAST starts at 10..hope you can join us……and we will have a random winner of the Spalding Never Flat Pack (basketball,football,soccer, volleyball)…just send your name and address to wizardspromotions@washsports.com……

Coach Jordan stated the team played Smart Ball and that mindset has to be on display tonight against the highly emotional high flying Portland Trailblazers. We as a team played with toughness and intensity but the turnovers by the All-Stars bothered me!
I also like to see Roger Mason diversify his playmaking by being more unpreditable and not depend only on the three-pointers!Roger maybe a dunk or two would be nice with a AND1!The freethrows has been coming back to the 80% mark so we definitely will need this on the road! Good Luck !!!!

everybody is on the lebron n deshawn, ooops my bad the deshawn n lebron fiasco. (wizards first baby lol) gil spoke on it today in his blog. this will be the biggest match in the playoffs in a long time. its funny how people say the cavs rivals are the pistons and our rivals are the cavs. like cleveland is too good for us. cleveland played a depleted wiz team last year. and toronto… come on man. but they did beat detroit. i dont think they would have beat us if we had our stars one bit. ne way the cavs are pissing me off and im not an NBA player…… and i wish i was playing. THE WIZARDS DESERVE RESPECT IN THIS LEAGUE. this game is softning up. there no more rodman’s or laimbeers in the game. the kevin mchales, rick mahorn, anthony mason, charles oakley, kurt rambis. guess what they all have in common…… their all role players. Do ur thang deshawn. when u play the wizards our house is our house, and ur house is our house! ur not going to intimdate us and beat us before we even play the game like others teams… u know what the great muhammad ali said. ” i talked trash to my opponents before i got in the ring to distract them. and the match was already won before the fight” u seen lebron and those layups. wizards just play ball. its good to see that the wizards are fighting for their respect. tonight we should look for oden to grab rebound…. my bad he aint playin. look out for roy. deshawn played him nicely last time. every game from now on in order for this team to succeed deshawn and haywood must set the tone on defense. and contribute on offense. the fate of this team has been in their hands all season. when either of them plays terrible we tend to lose. their our X factors every night.

Yep. To tell the truth, I just don’t agree with his line-ups tonight. Caron seemed to play more than all the vets. Where the hell was Haywood? The Blazers had all these offensive rebounds because of all their tall players in.
