Caron Butler Injury Update
Hey everyone tough news on Caron although it could be much worse. Here is the official release from the team.
Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that further tests revealed that Wizards forward Caron Butler has a small labral tear of the left hip joint. Butler, who has missed a total of 14 games this season, including Washington’s last 10 contests, will be re-evaluated next week.

The news about Caron is very unfortunate. He has been out nearly a month and without Gilbert Arenas, they are going to struggle to make the playoffs. I also looked up this injury in medical jurnals and found out that the may be more serious than we think. What of the alarming findings was that resting and medication may not heal the injury as fast as we’d like. If Gilbert is going to return in the next couple of weeks, i would hope Caron will make a return as well. If Gilbert is not going to return then it may be a wise decision to cut the season short for Caron. Surgery may be the option of choice at this point.
MY QUESTION IS, DO YOU THINK CARON WILL RETRUN IN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO REGARDLESS OF GILBERTS STATUS OF RETURNING?

Well I believe we all knew something was wrong, and by wrong I mean really wrong since we haven’t seen Caron in a “long” time!! The only difference is that it is now official. Now let’s hope he can get back in shape in order to have him for the playoffs (are we going to the playoffs??).
Regarding the team it’s a very tough news and you know we won’t have Gilbert for at least another week (I’d say a week and a half) so this squad is gonna have to live through all this for a little longer…

Come to think of it, the only player that hasn’t been “announced” sick, hurt, or injured this year is McGuire (he’s played the least amount of minutes). The team shouldn’t run the “consistently productive” players to the ground. It has been a concern of mine for a couple of seasons to see these players play so many minutes under Coach Jordan’s direction.
On the ESPN webpage describing this same story, many of the comments bashed the Wizards medical staff for being inept with injury diagnoses and poor treatment options. I don’t know enough about the team’s medical staff to provide an opinion. I imagine the team does have highly qualified specialists and assistants and the staff don’t just call Dr. Nick Riviera at 1-800-DOCTORB (the extra B is for bargain) for advice.

The news just keeps getting better and better. What curse of the Le Bullet? Sorry Tony I know that is “your saying”.
I kinda figured it was more than a hip flexor strain. You usually aren’t out a month if that is all it is. Damage to load bearing cartilage is never a good thing. I’m no doctor, but, my wife suffers from osteo arthritis and I’m kinda familiar with cartilage tears, shredding, and deterioration. Cartilage doesn’t heal itself. Chances are they will perform surgery to remove the damaged piece. This is not good news for Caron or us. Basketball aside I wish him a speedy recovery. This has to be killing him.

Man, this is tough news.
I’m not even concerned about how long it’ll take for him to return, I just want him fully healed and healthy because he’s done a lot for the team. I hate that he’s injured again; he just has so much passion for the game.
Heal fully Caronimo – we heart you!

After Jarvis Hayes and his “two” surgeries to repair supposedly the same injury I’m inclined to ask the same question Wizard Fusion? Not to mention Gilbert. Why was no stress fracture found in the first surgery? And where pray tell do you get a stress fracture in a knee where it “isn’t” load bearing? I wish Kornheiser would have picked another basketball team to talk about a curse. I’m getting tired of our curse.

How much bad luck can this team have? When Caron first went out, they said it was ’soreness’ and he was just getting a little rest. This is all too similar to the Gil situation. I’m just hoping we get to see CB3 before this season is over. How can a team expect to win when their heart and soul is missing? Caron is more than just an incredibly talented ball player, he is a fierce competitor who fuels his teammates into taking on his mentality. I love this team and even in the games we have lost, we have played with full effort (well, most games anyway) and usually put up a decent fight. But after last year, it is so hard to watch this team play undermanned, where they are at a disadvantage right at tip-off. We need some kind of magic healer or something. Caron – please get better. Is one ‘fairly’ healthy season too much to ask for?

has anyone else noticed this? i’m not sure if it’s just me who has, but the last two times butler has been seriously injured they’ve been long-term or season-ending injuries, last year when he broke his hand (2 games before gilbert went down) and this year with the hip flexor a month ago, they’ve BOTH been against milwaukee.. in-ter-est-ing to say the least.. anyone else notice this?

A tear in the labrum is usually an injury that occurs over a long time of repetive motions. Or an arthritis thing. It usually doesn’t happen in one game Tag Flap (unless somebody hits you with a mallet on the hip). And lol I don’t think the Bucks jammed his hand into the backboard when he was trying to block a shot.
Da Big Taba… you just can’t trust that Doug Collins ! lol.

Man am I blown. As already previously stated above, it’s true that they’ll only be good if everyone is healthy. Just when you thought that everyone’s getting better, and with Gilbert coming back soon(hopefully), everything would be getting to be how it was, but now, we lose 2 players, even if one still comes back. Basically, we have been one Wizard short this entire season. In a way it is good, because it gives the other guys a chance to play, which helps bring more confidence to the team. We have the lowest bench minutes in the league. We need to start playing more guys, opening up more opportunities to other guys we may never see if they don’t get any playing time.
Stay strong guys..we gonna the ball rolling soon. Playoffs, here we come!

Count me among those who question the quality of the Wizard’s medical staff.
Let’s see… Hayes’ knee was supposed to get better with rest. Whoops, he needs surgery. No, he needs two surgeries on the same knee. He loses three years of his career. Last year Gil runs into Reuben Patterson and spends three weeks struggling with his shot because of a sore shoulder before a chiropractor puts it back in place – finally getting him relief. That delay in fixing Gil’s should cost us some games last year. At the end of last year the team (as I blogged last November) must have hired Dr. Nick to fix Gil’s knee. How did that work out? This year he needs more surgery on the same knee. Who knows if Gil will come back as good as new. Now, Butler spend a month out of action with “soreness” in his hip. Now it looks like something worse that should have been treated right away.
I don’t know what type of lame HMO program Abe has the team on, but it’s ruining players’ careers and season after season for the team.

Gotta agree with you Chenier Fan. To determine the extent of Butler’s injury would have only required an MRI. Oh, and someone that knew how to read it. I had forgotten about Gil’s shoulder thing! I was probably thinking too much about how they were in his knee with the scope and missed a stress fracture? I felt sorry for poor old Jarvis Hayes and still do. Although he seems to be pretty ok these days. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Gilbert seek a second opinion from a non Wizards doctor and that doctor is the one that found the damage the second time plus the stess fracture?
With some of the best hospitals and Teaching hospitals around that simply isn’t acceptable. I’ve got the name of a very good orthopedist who specializes in sports medicine? Caron call me LOL.

Agent0 we have been down 2 players all season and now 3. Don’t forget Etan. And that on a roster of 13 players. With EVERYONE healthy we still only have 13.

it sucks, but someone needs to lose their job, namely TRAINER AND DOCTOR. how many times have we heard this year that someone was cleared too early and they extended their injury? rushing the flexor could have absolutely been the cause of the cartilage tear. it is a fact that injured ligaments and muscles are almost always the cause of cartilage tears. gil was cleared too early, as well.
i also agree with the earlier statement of giving the core guys a little more rest during games. plus you don’t want bench players that you believe in to get rusty. get dom the bomb and company in to relieve these guys a little more often.

Terrible news… but as great a player as CB3 is, I’d rather have him back in FULL health, than coming back 1/2 way and causing more harm to that hip than help to the team. This may be an extremely unpopular opinion… but maybe the injuries are a good thing for the team. Sure we’d all like to have Caron and Gilbert back, but this should also make the bench rise up and start earning their keep. Players like Roger Mason, Andre Blatche, Nick Young, Antonio Daniels, etc… really need to learn to come in the game and play as if they’re already starters. I know we’re talking about the possibility of the playoffs looming, but this is GUT CHECK time, and dammit, it’s time for our bench to start checking their guts for real. I get soooooooooooooo frustrated with the lazy passes, and careless turnovers!!! I can only imagine how Coach J feels. And watching Antwan Jamison on the floor night in and night out leaving it all on the court, without getting the type of support he deserves from the bench drives me nuts!!! Good thing I’m not the coach, because they would NEVER be able to mic me up. I mean, yes we beat the Hornets twice, and I’m happy about that. But in between those wins we lose to a Yao Mingless Houston Rockets team. A team that we should be able to compete with… especially with a 40 y/o center starting. No offense to Dikembe… who I absolutely love and respect, but COME ON BRENDAN!!!!!! You HAVE to show up for a game like this!!!! You are almost 1/2 this man’s age, and almost the same height. NO EXCUSES!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay… I’m stepping off my soapbox for the night. I will pray that someone who needs to read my tirade (hint… hint… BRENDAN… and the Wiz Bench), and will heed to the message. YOU’RE ALL PROFESSIONALS!!! FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME… START PLAYING LIKE IT>>> NIGHT IN AND NIGHT OUT!!!
GO WIZARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just take your time and do what the medical staff and trainers say and
hopefully everything will be ready for the playoffs. We really donot need
you to come play right now because the youngsters are just now finding
themselves. I see you more of a coach and motivation speaker right now
until all your pain is gone. Stay Tough and Stay Real Peace!!!!

Tough news for Tuff Juice.
From Mayo Clinic Website:
The socket of your hip joint (acetabulum) is lined by cartilage called your labrum. This cartilage provides stability and cushioning for your hip joint, allowing the ball of your thighbone (femur) to move smoothly and painlessly in the socket.
A tear in your labrum, known as a hip labral tear or acetabular labral tear, can result from injury, repetitive movements that cause wear-and-tear on your hip joint, or degeneration, such as from osteoarthritis.
When treatment for a hip labral tear is necessary, it may consist of physical therapy, medications or a combination. Less frequently, surgery is necessary to treat a hip labral tear.
No specific exercises or other steps have been proved to prevent hip labral tear. However, a program of lower extremity strength training and core stability exercises may help you prevent lower extremity injuries in general, including hip labral tear.
