Game Day LA Clippers

3:50 AM EST….yes almost one in the AM here in LA…Dave Johnson checking in…..Before our trip to Philly I said I was hoping the Wizards would reach the All-Star break at .500….that’s out…but have a chance to end losing streak and at least be 25-27 …team did not practice but…Caron Butler and Antonio Daniels had individual work outs yesterday and they will be game time decisions….so that is encouraging……hard to fault this team….against the Suns and Warriors I was concerned that the Wizards would be able to score enough…..they did—- but did not have the ability to close….check back later

5:00pm EST Hey everybody this is SportzWiz. I just wanted to post and let everyone know that we will have exclusive coverage of basically everything All-Star this weekend at washingtonwizards.com. We will be heading down to All-Star and will be basically try to be attached to the hip of Caron and Antawn.

Just a couple of things to look forward to.
Daily Blog on Washingtonwizards.com, I will see if we can get this on here so everyone can make comments. This will be updated throughout the day to tell everyone what is going on with Caron and Antawn.
Exclusive behind the scene videos and pictures.
Q & A’s with both of the players.
Feature stories on the players and their families.
Shots from practice, Community relations events.
Daily schedules, so you can see how busy these two guys are when they are down there.

You name it and we will have it covered. Also, please feel free to type out questions to Caron and Antawn and we will see if we can get some answers for you.

As for tonight, as I posted it sounds like no Caron for both tonight and All-Star. However, this team has shown grit, you can hear how desperate they are for a win, and no matter what this team will come out and play hard.

Once again check WashingtonWizards.com starting late tomorrow and early Friday for complete coverage of All-Star weekend.

10:09PM…BLOGCAST starts at 10:30 and you can listen online by clicking the link above…Dave and Glenn checking in courtside…no Caron but Antonio is possible.

10:11 PM…starters are in…Daniels is a go…stevenson, haywood, jamison, blatche…..cassell, mobley, kaman, thornton, maggette….

10:31….we have a winner of the Spalding Never Flat Pack….that includes a basketball, soccer ball, football, and volleyball…congrats   to Katrina Proctor of Oxon Hill….just sned your name and address to wizardspromotions@washsports.com

We must win tonight hopefully either Antonio or Caron will be able to play. If we lose again tonight we could end up in 7th before the break

its going to be hard to get a win in LA with the guys they got we are going to have to bring every player we have and they all got to be on the tip top of there game to get this win but i think its posible if we get Caron back i think he might be about ready to go~

I just wrote an article about how the Wizards should win this game. Check it out and let me know what you think – http://www.mvn.com/nba-wizards

btw – Does anybody know why Eddie Jordan won’t play Pech more than 15 minutes a game? He’s no worse than Songalia and he’s taller

Just a quick note, Caron will not play tonight and will not play in the All-Star game.

Well, it looks like 1/2 of my wish came true concerning Caron resting through the break (very smart move IMO). A refreshed Caron + an anxious Gilbert + hopefully a relaxed Antawn = push for playoffs in 30 games.

So, this frees up one spot and Jason Kidd going to the West frees up another spot for the East. I nominate Brendan Haywood and Jose Calderon. It’ll probably be Calderon and Ray Allen.

I sense a super game from Andray Blatche tonight (prediction: 16 pts, 14 rebounds, 3 dimes, 1 steal, and 1 block). Nick Young, if he gets minutes, may have something special up his sleeve because he’s back at his home area with family and friends watching.

Stevenson is going to have a tough time with Maggette because of his injury.

Haywood vs. Kaman = battle of the underrated center

And LOL @ SportzWiz with the line

“… and will be … attached to the hip of Caron …”

Comment from wiz-skins07
Time February 13, 2008 at 5:51 PM

Hey the Griz are shopping Lowry…

We are loaded in the front-court…no need for a big man in the draft b/c of how well Haywood is playing…Blatche is a monster when he starts…Jamison is the Vet and is what keeps us running…Butler…well his All-Star apperance in 2 consecutive years says it all…Dominic McGuire looks to get better and better everytime he gets playing time….Etan Thomas…our banger down-low…hopefully he will come back fully healthy…not to mention Oleskiy Pecherov and Darius Songaila…Now the back-court…we have a Stud in Arenas..DeShawn has been lighting it up…Roger is a decent back-up at the 2 gaurd not at the one…Nick Young is raw and can become a star if developed the right way…Antoinio Daniels..our other veteran leadership..he is our only TRUE point gaurd…

Now can you guys tell me what are we going to do with our draft picks this year if we are basically almost set….Jamison only has about 3 years left in him..then we can let Blatche do his thing….who is going to be our back-up point gaurd when AD steps away…

I Say Trade:

Darius Songaila and 2nd Rounder

for

Kyle Lowry

Pros: Get a YOUNG (he’s ONLY 22 years old) true point gaurd so that when any injuries occur or when Antoinio Daniels retires..we already have a plan…He is a great defender…VERY VERY fast…he seemed to burn our gaurds all the time…

Cons: Get rid of Darius

Comment from Wizards4Life
Time February 13, 2008 at 6:14 PM

looks like the Mavs and Nets have made a trade for J.Kidd its not official but an agreement in principle has been reached

“Kidd, who turns 35 next month, goes to Dallas with an unmistakable mandate: Bring a title for a team and career that are desperately seeking it. As part of the trade, the Mavericks would also send Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, DeSagna Diop, Maurice Ager and $3 million to New Jersey. Along with Kidd, the Nets send reserve forward Malik Allen to the Mavs.”

Comment from neal
Time February 13, 2008 at 7:55 PM

Songaila makes $3.9M, Lowry makes $1.1M. So the Phizzlies would have to kick in another player. I don’t see why they would do the trade. I think at this point it would be hard to trade Songaila to anyone, given his salary and the fact that he has 3 more years on his contract.

But I agree that we need foremost a young back-up PG. Probably via the draft. Who’s available when we’ll be picking?

I went away for a week and the Wiz took a nose dive. The guilt is killing me. A win tonight would help some.

Some random thoughts….

Glad to hear that Caron is taking off the All-star game. It would have been pretty bad to miss all these games then play in an exhibition.

- There is some talk about Kyle Lowry being shopped around. Wiz-Skins07 up above mentioned it. That guy can penetrate at will. Tonight he was nailing three’s.

- This losing streak by the Wiz isn’t completely due to injuries. The D has collapsed. Blatche and Haywood don’t seem to be blocking as many shots. If you score 117 pts, like they did against the Warriors, you should win the game. Every team is shooting over 50% against us. Let’s see some blocked shots tonight. It would also help to get a loose ball once in a while.

-Pity the Nets without Kidd. They looked hopeless against the Raptors. Kidd isn’t quite the player he used to be because he doesn’t finish at the rim as well as he used to. But he is a great defensive guard and his passing is worth about an extra ten pts a game in easy buckets. But wait! It looks like Devean George is invoking his no trade clause to stop the trade dead in its tracks. Who in the heck would give Devean George a no trade clause?

Alright Wiz. This game is winnable. Let’s bring home the bacon. Let’s play some D and block some shots like it was a month ago.

Glenn Here: Keys to the Clipps, Take away Maggette’s options, he runs baseline box to box the either ducks in to paint or posts up, also, Clipps are known to break down defensively after the first 10 seconds into the 24 second clock, so Wiz MUST work to 2nd or 3rd side.

Man, AL thorton was another kid I felt we should have gotten if he was available. HIs knock was that he was too old. (being 23-24). Then early in the season he didnt get time and I was amazed, but watching him now I can say hes going to be an very good SF. hes easily the second best or third best player on the clippers behind, Brand and Kaman. He’s so far single handedly keeping them in the game. I want to see him play against the carmelos etc. But in the near future Al will be averaging 16/7. Possibly next year. He gets those numbers and he does them in a way where he seems to be able to do it consistently

I’m happy for the Wizards. The monkey is going back to the Heat.

I’m extremely impressed by DMac bringing a ton of energy when the game was slipping from the Wizards.

Warrior awards for the game: Stevenson & Daniels (hurt but played)

The “I have a crush on Violet Palmer” Award: Haywood. He couldn’t stop joking with her the entire game. Talk talk talk talk talk.

The “I haven’t smiled for 2 weeks” Award: Coach Jordan. I’m elated he finally smiled. Well deserved.

Enjoy the mini vacation, unless you’re going to Nawlins – where the parties never stop.

Whew! We really needed that one!

Big game by Antonio — huge, actually. He filled up the stat sheet. Jamison and Haywood had good games too.

Big props for Dominic: he missed all 4 shot attempts and turned it over 2 times, and he *still* had a big game, averaging a rebound every 2 minutes and adding a block and an assist for good measure.

Nick came in, turned it over right away, and came back out. As I’ve said before, I am worried that he is a bust. Understand that out of every draft, only 4 or 5 players turn out to be good players, real contributors. Al Thornton (who might have dropped to us) looks like a monster.

Andray had 4 turnovers and 4 fouls; that’s what is wrong with his game still. But, there is no doubt he is improving as the season goes along and that it has been good for him to start.

neal is back, so we get a win. Don’t be planning any more trips, neal — hear?

I like Kyle Lowry ok, but he is not as good as some of you may think. He is definitely not anywhere near as good as Atonio, who is one of the best point guards in the league.

I just watched last night’s game — very exciting.

Forget Kyle Lowry; how well would Brevin Knight fit this team? Exactly the kind of point guard we could use. (Actually, they are about equally productive players — though w/ different strengths, obviously)

We were ahead by 7 or 8 with about half of the last quarter left, when Dominic had some kind of tweak and came out; he went to the locker room.

Songaila came in for him, and within about 3 minutes we had pretty much lost our lead. I hope someone is looking at the tape of this game; that kid needs to play — a lot.

OK Tom.

Brevin Knight is one of the guys Unseld should never have let get away. I’d also love to have him back. A lot of the right kind of energy.

Dominic McGuire is a guy who doesn’t score a lot but is absolutely a winner. I trust Jordan and Grunfeld agree with us.

i agree tom dominic does so many little things right to help this ball club… but one player i say the wizards should look to trade is songaila hes just not made for the wizards fast tempo offense

trade songaila aloing with a first rounder that should make the trade more attractive…give them the memphis one we keep our own

I still like my earlier proposal. Songaila to the Phizzlies for Kwame. Then Kwame and Dan Snyder to the Cavs for Lebron and an owner to be named later.

Snyder’s “buy out” is probably too big lol
