The fans at Verizon Center are horrible, I mean my church is louder than they. Is very sad because The Wizards have been playing good basketball but let us all be real here with no support from their fans they won’t go far. As for you Laker fans and Celtic fans I wish you will pack your bags and move out of DC and go to Boston or LA. I hate to say this but you all make me sick. GO WIZARDS WE LOVE YOU.

nick and roger had great games on sunday. many believe points make great games for players but there is so much more…. speaking of which haywood and deshawn has been the biggest contributors this year on d and O besides caron when gil went out. so stevo and brendan must play well tonight on both sides of the court. haywood has been around long enough so it is time for him to establish himself a respected center in this league because he never gets acknowledged for that. we need the wins on this upcoming road trip to amp us up and keep the same intesity when gil gets back

Comment from brian
Time February 5, 2008 at 1:52 PM

andre miller is going to attack in the post, and willie green has had a spark so we need to match their intensity they do have many scores but their solid all around so we must be also. light a fire under this team again, we’re lagging now! injuries hit us but it has not killed us

You can watch it on nba.com Wiz4life League pass broadband stuff http://www.nba.com/broadband/league_pass.jsp ).
As everybody understood it tonight is a winnable game, at least compared to what follows…. If we can get our game back a certain night it’s most likely tonight, if we keep playing the way we have lately tonight we’re gonna have a hard time cuz there won’t be any time to get anything back when we’ll play san antonio or phoenix, but the 76ers, yes definitly.

Comment from ChenierFan
Time February 5, 2008 at 6:27 PM

The Wiz need a solid defensive game tonight. We need Stephenson and Mason to hit shots. If those two things happen, the Wiz should be in good shape. Luckily, there is no Kyle Korver to worry about anymore with the Sixers.

It’s time for Haywood to play big again. It is a good match-up between him and Dalembert. Those two are pretty evenly matched.

The next two games will be a good indication if the Wiz have lost their mojo. Both games are winnable – including the Spurs (without Parker they are not nearly as good).

Let’s see how things play out. This is no time to be playing like they are waiting for Arenas to get back.

Let’s bring home the bacon!

it pisses me off that our team is not so durable, we continue to get injured andits mostly our stars. deshawn has never missed a game due to injury (knock on wood) hopefully he never does. but these wizards need some iron man pills can u say cal ripken! but we still win despite the innuries but it affects the team chemistry

Comment from Reuben

more like, if he is not healthy he should (the team would regret doing this) sit him out until after the all-star break, as well as the all-star game itself to ensure that he is healthy for the team’s stretch run when arenas and thomas come back.

Totally unexcuseable. Somebody tell me how Young doesn’t play in the 2nd half when we needed offense? I don’t understand that at all. I know Jamison is our only good option without Butler and Gil, but somebody needed to tell him he was off tonight. More Pesh!!

This was the worst, I am really faulting Eddie for this one. Why is he not using the guys on the bench when we need scoring. I just watched the Lakers play the Nets, wow the Lakers are awesome. We have got to do something here, come on Eddie let the guys play

You know, I agree with you “onebigfan” (just stroll up to the top of the page people). I don’t even go to your church but I hear it over so-called Wizards fans (hell, I don’t even go to church!). Losing happens; they out there working hard – Caron and AD out there when they have no business being out there…

You know what onebigfan, I’m gonna make a trip to Washington (to the VC for a game) and cheer my lungs out like I did both times when they came and played Milwaukee (those Bucks fans were looking at me like I was crazy). If y’all see what appears to be a party in the crowd at the VC, know that it’s me…

Instead of complaining about the “poor fan participation” at the Verizon Center, let’s think about why the fans wasn’t in a festive mood.

I’m guessing OneBigFan’s post was referring to the Lakers game last Sunday. When the home team was down by 15 at the end of the first quarter and the superstar player on the other team outscored the home team by himself, no Wizards fan is going to cheer. It doesn’t matter if this happened in Washington or anywhere else, no home team fan is going to cheer. It’s human nature because the fan feels “defeated”. A defeatist attitude is very tough to overcome.

Washington D.C. and New York City are two cities where a “home crowd” doesn’t exist because of the diversity of the people living or working in these areas. Because of this diversity, you’ll get a more mixed fan base to sporting events. The “home crowd” in Washington isn’t that homogeneous (meaning – it is not just strictly D.C. natives that go to games). Washington is the nation’s capital, so you’ll definitely have people from all over attend sporting events. I personally like this diversity because you see how sports is very regional and territorial and fans defend their love of their team(s) no matter where they are (I especially enjoy when international fans bring their flags and chants – it shows uniformity). Obviously, the “home crowd” won’t be as strong because of it but this trend has been going on for many years. If this is part of the “Curse of Les Boulez”, then que sera sera. Somewhat depressing? Yes, but that’s the sports scene in Washington.

Well I disagree because I’m a “disagree-ist.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if NY is one of those cities “where a ‘home crowd’ doesn’t exist…” then why were boos coming from the crowd towards Isiah Thomas. Those boos could not have just been coming from the “visiting team” fans because the “home crowd” (as I understood it) was booing him too; would that still mean that they don’t exist? The Wizards have gotten booed off of their floor before by the fans, and you mean to tell me that “home crowds” in places like these don’t exist? I understand about the diversity part, but what about other cities with diversity, such as LA and Chicago? I would think that those would be on your list too…

Well, maybe I’m not human then if it’s one’s human nature to feel “defeated” because I still cheer…and ya get a mixed fan-base some of everywhere. Besides, this ain’t even about the lack-of “home crowds,” it’s about the fans who ARE present at games (such as the Lakers one), but not really cheering. You can’t have these people coming from other locations “out-representing” your crowd; that’s kinda embarrassing. Hearing their fans cheering – do you know what type of difference that makes to those players out there working hard…

It was a poor choice of words for me to say that a “home crowd” doesn’t exist in DC and NYC. What I should have said was that the “makeup of the home crowd” in DC and NYC is much more different than many of the other cities with sports franchises because of the diversity of the people living in DC and NYC. I’m not singling out DC and NYC because LA, San Fran, and Chicago also work in my theory. In Salt Lake City, their home crowd is extremely homogeneous and uniform. In DC and NYC, however, you see people less homogenized and uniform and this leads to less of a home court advantage.

I don’t disagree with most of Bridge’s first paragraph, but I do have more thoughts on his second paragraph. I’ll break it down into points:

1) It is very difficult for me to believe you (or anyone) that you still cheer when your team is down and struggling. When I was at the Laker game, I tried to stay positive and just made side comments like “C’mon Wiz, get going” when the going got bad for the home team. I don’t consider my actions “cheering”. Most Wizards fans had the “Whoa, we’re getting destroyed” look for much of the game, including myself. When 18,000 people think alike in those negative terms, cheering is the last thing on people’s minds. I’m sure Wiz fans following the game on the tube and computer had similar reactions – stunned silence with bits of anger/frustration (but certainly not a cheery emotion).

2) Both you and I agree that it is embarrassing and depressing the Wizards “home crowd” is being “out-represented” by fans of the opposing team. Unless the Wizards win a championship and have a bunch more people show local support, the Wizards “cheering” won’t get any better. The Lakers, Celtics, Bulls have won more than 1 championship and those teams get more fan support because people like consistent winners. This is probably your biggest gripe and I don’t have a solution for you. I don’t think calling out “non-cheering fans” will resolve the problem.

3) I think most fans that attend like every home Wizards game behave very conservatively. These fans don’t go all loud and crazy when the Wizards are doing well and don’t bring out the boo birds when the Wizards are doing poorly. These fans don’t even wear jerseys or hats to show their allegience to the Wizards. Maybe these fans have seen too much to know strange things happened too many times before, so why get high blood pressure over 1 loss? As I got older, I became a calmer sports fan. Winning is the ultimate goal of any competition but losing isn’t the end of the world. I can’t speak for all the Wizards fans at the Laker game, but I guess many does fit my description.

4) Cheering can certainly help the Wizards players get more motivated on the court, but I don’t know how you can really see who’s working hard and who’s not working hard. Many have criticized Songaila’s contributions to the team this year, so do you consider him “not working hard” because of his lack of production statistically? I don’t know what Darius does behind the scenes to even make a comment like that. That’s why I feel cheering or clapping is overrated. Positive reinforcement is needed but doing too much is overkill.

You may see me as a “bad fan” because I don’t cheer and clap for the Wiz during good and bad times but I don’t need others to justify to me that I’m a Wizards fan.

I’m a HER by the way;

I don’t see you as a “bad fan” and if it’s hard for you to believe that I don’t cheer (still) when my team is struggling, oh well because I do. I don’t mean “cheer” in the way that you might be interpreting it where I’m just loosing control and making an a** of myself (well, maybe I do); I’m not buck-wild – I’m clapping, I’m chanting names; overall, I’m being supportive. I think that what people forget sometimes is that sports exist not only for these professional athletes to do what they do and show us what they got, but also for the pride of that city/people they are representing. Yes, sports is competitive, but why do we go to sporting events – to “escape” from our demanding lives and to have fun…I’m still young, therefore, I want to have fun. I’m not about to be some “stiffler” whose appearing to be “too good” to represent my team. The difference between me and other people is that I’m not about to do what the rest of the “18,000″ people are doing – I have a mind of my own and I happen to be a very positive person; people need more positivity in their lives.

No, the Lakers, Celtics and Bulls either have or have had “star-power.” No solution for me is needed by the way…

And good, because I’m not trying to classify you. Why would I need to classify you when I’m so busy being a great fan myself. In other words, I don’t really care what you and others do or don’t do because it’s about what I’M doing to support my Wiz…Nice discussion though…

At least we don’t used “canned” fan noise to enhance the voice of our fans. I think it’s hilarious to watch an away game and hear the fans “go wild” while watching the people in the stands sitting quietly with their hands in their laps.
