11:23…..Hey everyone I’m sure Dave will be joining us soon, anyway here are some quick notes about tonight’s game.
Washington enters play with a 23-18 record to date; a season-high tying five games over .500. With a win, the Wizards can improve to six games over .500 for the first time since they were 39-33 after a win in Milwaukee on April 1st of last season.
Previously vs. Milwaukee…The Wizards defeated the Bucks, 101-77, in Milwaukee on January 4th…The Wizards’ 24 point margin of victory marked their largest win of the season, and their biggest road win since a 29-point win at Atlanta on March 16, 2005…The Wizards held the Bucks to 10 first quarter points and an opponent season-low 31 first half points…Washington connected on 41-of-74 (.554) field goal attempts…Antawn Jamison led Washington with a game-high 24 points…Playing in front of 41 friends and family members, Caron Butler finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and a team-high seven assists…Antonio Daniels finished with 14 points, five rebounds and five assists…Andray Blatche finished with 12 points.
Wizards forward — and Racine, Wisconsin native — Caron Butler enters play having made a Washington franchise record 60 consecutive free throws. Butler last missed a free throw on Dec. 28 in New Jersey, and currently holds the NBA’s longest streak of consecutive free throws made since Kobe Bryant hit 62 consecutive free throws in 2005-06. Going further back, Utah’s Jeff Hornacek had a 67 free throw streak during the 1999-00 season. Butler is now 163-of-179 from the free throw line this season; a career-high .911 clip.
Wizards forward Antawn Jamison recorded game-highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds in Washington’s last game to record his 25th double-double of the season. Jamison, who made his first career All-Star appearance with the Wizards in 2004-05, has more double-doubles than any other forward in the Eastern Conference this season, and trails only Orlando center Dwight Howard — the East’s All-Star starting center — among all Eastern Conference players in double-doubles. Jamison and Howard are also the only two players in the East — and two of just five overall in the NBA — that average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.
4:20 PM EST….Dave Johnson checking in from the Bradley Center…trying to fight off the flu…This will be a good challenge this afternoon…Michael Redd–who missed the last meeting with a thigh bruise is back…and Andrew Bogut is having a terrific month…averaging 17.4 ppg and 9.7 rpg….and the Wizards did not feel great after a 20 turnover win against the Grizzlies.
4:25PM EST…Anybody else see the Magic/Celtics game? And to the post asking for an explanation of the Cleveland game–sadly there really isn’t one–we just didn’t compete–and that is not something that happens with this team…it goes against how this team got to be 23-18 while missing its leading scorer.
5:25PM ESY..starters are in…No Michael Redd for the Bucks because of a left knee strain…so it is Williams, Ivey, Bogut, Yi, and Simmons….wizards will have line up of daniels, stevenson, haywood, butler, and jamison
5:35PM…Hey check this out…..Wizards forward Antawn Jamison enters play today as one of just two players in the NBA’s Eastern Conference averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. The other — Orlando’s Dwight Howard — will start for the Eastern Conference in next month’s NBA All-Star game. In the last ten years, only two players have averaged at least 20 points and 10 rebounds for a team with a winning record at the midpoint of the season and not made the All-Star team; Carlos Boozer (22.2 ppg, 12.0 rpg) for the 27-14 Utah Jazz in 2006-07, and Chris Webber (22.8 ppg, 10.3 rpg) for the 30-11 Sacramento Kings in 2002-03.
5:40PM…Good interview with Ivan Carter coming up at half time. Ivan believes Antawn and Caron can both make it..with Chris Boish as a reserve center.

Go Wizards.
January 27th, 2008 at 12:18 PM
There is a time when a team has to become enlightened about itself.
They act a certain way they talk a certain way and the prosper .
We know how to win , we know what not to do to lose so its time
to just do it without anyone telling you! We must not be complacent
and think any game will be easy but expect every game to be hard
until we crack the other teams code or modus operandi. The free-
throws must be excellent and the rebounding must be superior and
from there we will push the action until there is no more time left.
Its time to go into auto-pilot and get the job done. I expect a big
game from AB because its his time to shine!
January 27th, 2008 at 12:19 PM
I’ll be there cheering for you Caronimo - gotta get that record!…
Go Wizards!
January 27th, 2008 at 12:36 PM
The Locksmith has the assignment of locking up Michael Redd.
We all know Redd can go off on a shooting tandem and they are playing at home. Gott play solid D tonight..
LETs’s Go Wiz..
January 27th, 2008 at 12:39 PM
Hey Boston is playing Orlando at 1pm on ABC. Hopefully Boston will beat Orlando and make us only one game out of first place..
January 27th, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Yep, and Cleveland is at the Lakers.
We’ve got a 4-way battle going for the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th places in the playoffs. Orlando is 2 ahead of us. Cleveland is 1/2 behind us and Toronto is 1 behind us.
We need this one before a killer 9 game stretch. Home and home against Toronto. Then Utah, the Lakers, Philly, San Antonio, Denver, Phoenix, and Golden State. Of those 7 teams, all have a better record than us except Philly. And we play 4 on the road.
Let’s go Wiz.
January 27th, 2008 at 2:38 PM
I’m still not sure exactly what went so terribly wrong in Cleveland. Can anyone explain it to me? It seems like NO ONE had a good game that night. Not Caron, not Jamison, not Brendan, no one. Offense was way out of sync, defense was terrible, etc. We did not even look like the same team! How do we avoid this kind of game in the future? Hard to believe it was the same team that beat Boston twice and the Mavericks, too.
Go Wiz tonight!
January 27th, 2008 at 3:09 PM
So far Orlando is beating Boston by 5 in the 4th. KG is not playing. He’s out with abdominal strain.
January 27th, 2008 at 4:34 PM

January 27th, 2008 at 4:36 PM
Well orlando won….. amazing buzzer beater by the way… Cleveland’s losing right now despite the fact that it’s actually raining in the arena….
January 27th, 2008 at 4:37 PM

January 27th, 2008 at 4:37 PM
lil gil are you serious raining inthe arena..has it stopped the game becasue of a leak
January 27th, 2008 at 4:41 PM
goign to interview eddie jordan right now
January 27th, 2008 at 4:43 PM
Yeah yeah there’s a leak in the arena, the game stoped for a while but it has re started.
January 27th, 2008 at 5:14 PM
neal — realistically, it’s a 3 way race for 4th: we are not going to catch Orlando.
For one thing, they are 10 games above .500, and we are 5 games above. That would be hard enough. More importantly, they have played 8 more games on the road than we have — and that’s 8 more wins on the road too! They are 17-10 on the road; we are 9-10.
What’s more, overall they’ve played 5 more games than us — all wins (we have the same number of losses).
Now, if Howard were to be injured, that’d be different. Otherwise, as they say, fuhgeddaboudit.
But… we can still finish ahead of Cleveland and Toronto for 4th; that’d give us home court advantage over whichever of them finished right under us. I’d rather play Toronto than Cleveland.
January 27th, 2008 at 5:33 PM
No Michael Redd again today becasue of a strained left knee
January 27th, 2008 at 5:35 PM
5:25PM ESY..starters are in…No Michael Redd for the Bucks because of a left knee strain…so it is Williams, Ivey, Bogut, Yi, and Simmons….wizards will have line up of daniels, stevenson, haywood, butler, and jamison

January 27th, 2008 at 5:50 PM
Glenn here: Keys to Bucks: No Redd tonight, but that means Bucks are a better defensive team starting Royal Ivey. Wiz shouls expect to face some 3-2 Zone, and they need to focus on getting to rim vs. setteling for jumpers. Very impotant! Also Wiz need to get ball out of Mo Williams hands and force Boguts post catches further than he wants to receive.
January 27th, 2008 at 6:00 PM
Well without Redd it’s gonna be much easier but still, the Wiz have really been struggeling lately and tonight should be an easy game regarding what we’re about to face in the next weeks so we’de better play a solid game, avoid turning the ball over as much as we’ve done it lately and play a more solid defense! If I remember well the bucks tried to play inside last time and they just couldn’t get anything as Haywood was guarding that rim greatly, let’s hope we’ll see that again in ten minutes.
January 27th, 2008 at 6:03 PM
lilgil good memory..haywood really shut down bogut.. and we have been playing well.. but real bad against cleveland..and just sloppy once we had a big lead against grizllies..so you are right ca not sli[p into bad habits even without redd
January 27th, 2008 at 6:04 PM
Glenn Here: Hey guys Bogut has been playing at a high level in Jan, avg. 17.4 and 9.7 rebs!
January 27th, 2008 at 6:15 PM
Hey guys I have not checked in for a while, anyway we need to win because Orlando won and we need to keep the gap close hopefully the cavs will lose so we can run away from them
January 27th, 2008 at 6:16 PM
yeah that orlando finish was wild..glad to have you back reuben
January 27th, 2008 at 6:28 PM
Well obviously not good decisions on offense to start this game…
January 27th, 2008 at 6:29 PM
actually good shot selections….just missing..agains we don’t want the quick shots
January 27th, 2008 at 6:31 PM
Yeah I didn’t say what I wanted to lol, Wiz not making shots is more what I meant…
January 27th, 2008 at 6:32 PM
what a block by haywood
January 27th, 2008 at 6:33 PM
Haywood 2 blocks on the the helpside! Yi seems confused
January 27th, 2008 at 6:34 PM
Yeah two plays which really looked alike!!
January 27th, 2008 at 6:35 PM
wizards missing in the paint
January 27th, 2008 at 6:39 PM
hmm well the defense is there so far.. so the offense will come
January 27th, 2008 at 6:41 PM
not to get off topic…but im watching the lakers/cavs…jeez they let the cavs get away with murder…and im not a kobe fan
January 27th, 2008 at 6:44 PM
bucks ended on a 7-1 run..weird first quarter..there was good ball movement good shots for the most past..but misses in the paint
January 27th, 2008 at 6:45 PM
Haywood does look good today though, hope it continues.
January 27th, 2008 at 6:45 PM
Yeah, we didn’t play our best offense but for most of the first quarter, good D. How about Caron and his two steals and Brendan and his two “Yi”-blocks!!
January 27th, 2008 at 6:48 PM
butler already 3 steals
January 27th, 2008 at 6:50 PM
Very low scoring game
unfortunately the cavs beat the lakers 98-95
January 27th, 2008 at 6:52 PM
really tightening the screws on the D around the rim…very nice.
January 27th, 2008 at 6:52 PM
Damn we really gotta win after the cavs and magics wins!! What about Blatche getting knocked out with no call!!
January 27th, 2008 at 6:53 PM
5 steals..four blocks..for the wizards already
January 27th, 2008 at 7:02 PM
We should be wining by a lot a lot a lot more but good job by Blatche but he has to stop gambling on those blocks because he will not get the call his way
January 27th, 2008 at 7:05 PM
you are right reuben…we are egting it down on d
January 27th, 2008 at 7:06 PM
I’d rather him contest the shot than let it go with our old defensive mentality.
January 27th, 2008 at 7:08 PM
11-2 run..now we don’t look good…7 turnovers
January 27th, 2008 at 7:10 PM
Cmon wiz this is terrible Pesh needs to be stronger on his rebounds if Caron and Antawn get it going we should be fine
January 27th, 2008 at 7:13 PM
what is this, the day of the ex-wizards?
January 27th, 2008 at 7:14 PM
One question: Do the wizards want to win?
January 27th, 2008 at 7:15 PM
Caron needs 5 more strait free throws to set the record.
January 27th, 2008 at 7:16 PM
bad quarter, but this type of low scoring game still isn’t bad for us.
January 27th, 2008 at 7:17 PM
it was bad quarter..and i did not like seeing us get beaten to hustle rebounds
January 27th, 2008 at 7:19 PM
they need to check bell’s 3 near the end of the half. i am certain he was on the line
January 27th, 2008 at 7:21 PM
wow, what is going on, first the game is not in Hi-def and they are not playing any d-fence. I really hope the EJ fires them up in the locker room. The Buck’s are getting all of the hustle points.
January 27th, 2008 at 7:21 PM
outrebiunded 25-19 at half
January 27th, 2008 at 7:29 PM
it is ironic how last year our offense would be keeping us in this game, while now its our defense.
January 27th, 2008 at 7:30 PM
Jason C thats because we could rely on Gilbert scoring and now we cant
January 27th, 2008 at 7:31 PM
i’m telling you, somebody gotta check that 3! should be a 2!
January 27th, 2008 at 7:31 PM
true…i just feel better about that going into the 2nd half of the season unlike last year.
January 27th, 2008 at 7:32 PM
d-fence wins games and championships ala the Pistons
January 27th, 2008 at 7:32 PM

January 27th, 2008 at 7:39 PM
Where’s the D right now?? First of all Bogut is killing us inside… and they’re scoring .. just scoring….
January 27th, 2008 at 7:40 PM

January 27th, 2008 at 8:19 PM
SOMEBODY needs to guard Bell
January 27th, 2008 at 8:22 PM
Honestly I’m really wondering what has happend lately, we’ve just played three ugly games in a row…Today Antonio Daniels had some ugly passes which he usually doesn’t, Deshawn Stevenson can’t hit a single shot (okay he got one..) I mean this is not a good situation knowing we’ll have to face LA, san antonio, phoenix, denver…
January 27th, 2008 at 8:23 PM
just a bad bad loss
January 27th, 2008 at 8:23 PM
ugh, we just look bad today.
January 27th, 2008 at 8:24 PM
You can’t win when you don’t play well… that’s just it…..
January 27th, 2008 at 8:24 PM
these games are hard to watch, because we should win. This team is down and out of its best player, and we come in here as if we are supposed to win for that very reason. Every player in the NBA is just that an NBA player, on any given night that will show you why they are on the roster. Mike Ruffin is still doing what he can do, but Bell has been the man. Just like in New York the first game, we had just beat the Celtics and flying high and Zeek and company handed us a loss. Consistant play is all I ask, play everybody like it is the Celts or the Mavs. Have of the team is on the bench in suits and we stink! come on turn the corner. PLEASE!!!
January 27th, 2008 at 8:26 PM
woww….. I should shut up more often lol.

January 27th, 2008 at 8:54 PM
damn I just broke my hearphones… anyway they just went crazy out there and hitted more crazy shots then us and we know we did hit huge shots…
January 27th, 2008 at 8:55 PM
Anyway you can’t play two solid last minutes and hope to win, we didn’t deserve a win tonight guys….
January 27th, 2008 at 8:56 PM
sad…on a night Caron should be celebrating a win and a new career high with his mom…and rest of his family and friends we let him down…:(
January 27th, 2008 at 8:57 PM
No, we lost to the MOEWAUKEE BUCKS! and no 5 second count at all. What do the refs use to measure the time on a inbound play? Is there a clock or are they just counting?
January 27th, 2008 at 8:57 PM

January 27th, 2008 at 9:03 PM
Its not about what they deserve, I personally think we deserved to win at least 2 games in the playoffs against the Cavs, but we did not, when it counted the Cavs were just better. Tonight the bucks were just better from start to finish, if we had been able to pull out the victory we would have deserved it because we are the better team. But hey even a broke clock is right twice a day:)
January 27th, 2008 at 10:11 PM
Lost to the Milwaukee _ucks. I just hate it.
Maybe it evens out over the long run. We weren’t supposed to beat the Celtics twice.
And I think Orlando and Cleveland won.
We are going to have to play a lot better over the next 9 very tough games than we have the last 3.
Blatche and Young looked a little better. I like that Jordan is playing the kids some. It’s the only way they’ll learn, get comfortable, and eventually be contributors. And Jordan’s got to make decisions on these guys as to whether they belong on the team and, if so, whether they should be in the rotation.

We didn’t win, but Caronimo beat Kobe Bryant’s (free-throw) record! That’s good right? I was there personally, so I was able to witness how hard they fought trying to get that “W.” We may have lost to the Milwaukee Bucks, but we all know who the better team is. Despite the lost, I am so proud of them.
The only mistake that I WILL point out is the number of fouls committed by Songailia - very “unnecessary” type of fouls, which gave away too many points.
Other than that, GREAT JOB WIZ! (I got a high-five from Caronimo and De “Locksmith” Stevenson!).

Suzie-qwiz I think the refs are still using an hour glass for the 5 second count. Sometimes in humid conditions the sand sticks together a little and makes the 5 second count more like a minute and a half.
That one was a tough loss, but, it allowed Caronimo to show what he is made of. Deshawn too. It would have been nice to see a little more of that “fight” in the first 3 quarters.
We are going to have a rough go of it before the All Star Break. We tend to come out for “tough” games a little more prepared than we do for the teams we are supposed to beat, so, this stretch may just be a good one for us? If we can come out with that same “fire” against the teams we are supposed to beat we will have a much better shot at the 3rd or 4th seed. We have another 3 games in 4 nights set coming up. If we can double up on Toronto and catch the Jazz at home it may spark a nice run to the break. At least I’m hoping so.
Thanks WILL. My computer crashed and I couldn’t get back on the blog after I replaced it. Will hooked me back up. Thanks Bud.

Wasn’t able to see the game, maybe a good thing.
Why did Blatche play so few minutes? Nick’s line shows contribution other than shooting — that’s a good thing.
I’d be interested to compare Songaila’s season stats so far w/ those of Ruffin.
We do have a tough stretch coming up. Tighten up, guys!

Iam not concerned with the games comming up, we always play well against teams that we are not susposed to beat.(except Cleveland). We will have trouble with Phili and the Clips.

Well I am new to this blog, and I’m pretty new to this stuff.
I have to comment on this game. They played fine. I agree totally with Bridge. I was actually at the game (travelled from Indiana) as well and I saw passion and hardwork in a majority of the players. I have to point out as well how Songaila had 5 fouls and 16 min and no points…Something need to happen there. I felt another player could have had his minutes. I’m proud of Caron with passing Kobe Bryant consecutive Free throws Record.
When the game was 79 Wiz-90 Bucks with 1:40 left I was on pins and needles, but they came back and I think they deserve to get a good job.
Time to trade Songailia…

I have no idea why Blatche played so few minutes Tom? He played less than ten minutes, but, had 3 blocks and a couple rebounds. I think the reason might be him taking a few too many of those 20 footers he hasn’t been making this year…. yet. Haywood played a solid game, but, Bogut was too quick for him.
Why is it that every time a player leaves us his game escalates to new heights? I don’t think, right now lol, you want to compare Ruffin and Songaila. I haven’t really followed Ruffin since he left, but, I think he hit all his free throws last night???? Maybe Coach Hopla has been moonlighting?
Let’s get Toronto here and there!

Ruffin had 5 points — his season high?

Exactly my point! He leaves us and becomes a scoring machiene lol.
