Game Day Mavericks

6:59 AM….Dave Johnson checking in….BLOGCAST starts at 1PM….Wizards and Mavericks..yours truly and Glenn Consor will be blogging while yacking away on the radio…with Antonio Daniels back and in the starting lineup there was more from the Wizards bench inlcuding Nick Young with 12— I thought he was also very active on defense….Wizards beat the Mavericks  110-96 earlier this year—-On that night the Wizards were led by Jamison and Butler who combined to score 62 points. The win was a rare loss for the Mavericks at home, as they are currently 18-3 this season in Dallas. Today will we see the league’s two highest scoring forward tandems–Butler/Jamison and Howard and Nowitzki……hope you can join us at one.

12:45PM…Dave and Glenn checking in courtside…starters are in harris, jones, howard nowitzki, and dampier….daniels, stevenson, butler, jamison, and haywood…

12:55PM…..So good to see Gilbert Arenas and Etan Thomas here at Verizon Center…Thomas says he feels fine and is waiting for doctors to clear him to practice and he is confident he will play this year…Arenas also talking positive and saying he would be willing to start by coming off the bench if that is what Eddie Jordan wanted

The Dallas Mavericks will be fired up to play my Wizards because they donot want to be sweep by a east coast team. Its going to be just like last week who do we want to stop and who can we live with offensively.First off we definitely need to stop Josh Howard because he is the catalyst and then try to steal the ball away from Dirk to break his rhythm. However there two guard tandem of Harris and Jason Terry are extremely explosive. Then you got our two ex- Wizards that always come to play against us of
Juwan Howar and Jerry Stackhouse. It appears that Dallas Mavericks have a Full House
with Aces Full. However I fill my Wizards also have a Full House with Aces Full. I believe
our Crowd will give us the energy to pull this one out! We just have to stay disciplined in
five areas Lockdown Defense,Rebounding,Steals, Three-Point Shooting and Excellence
In Free Throw Shooting!

Hi y’all, I hope we can contain the JET and Harris tonight. Butler and Jamison have to be heated up from the start, but we’re gonna need our bench guys to step up, last time we won thanks to Caron and Antawn but they can’t be red hot every night!!

Nice game — but… I missed it, cuz it was on during the day, and I didn’t know that!! Was it televised?

*Big* game from Caron and one from DeShawn too. DS is playing great ball lately. In fact, we are getting great guard play from the starters and often very reliable backup minutes from Roger too.

Both Roger and DeShawn are playing at a much higher level than earlier in the season, and of course Antonio is solid as a rock. We are a pretty good team right now, and if we can get some better minutes from the bench, we could make some noise in the second half of the season.

Comment from neal
Time January 21, 2008 at 8:33 PM

Yes, Tom, I didn’t realize it either at first. Got to see only the last 8 min.

Is this team good, or what? I love it.

Jamison is definitely playing better D. He still gets beat sometimes, but not by much. And he’s not allowing so many wide open shots. And his shot making and rebounding is terrific. He gets my all-star vote. (Which he didn’t before.)

I have a good feeling about Pecherov. I think he can be really good. Songaila’s minutes are threatened.

From the way Arenas has been talking he’s committed to fitting in to the new personality of the team. Hot damn. He can only make us better. Get us back into more of an up-tempo offense without overdependence on three guys to outscore the enemy.

Kudos:
Grunfeld for picking Ayers and Hopla. And for (probably) instigating the healing process between Thomas, Haywood and Jordan. And for picking Pecherov and for leaving him in Europe for a year.

Jordan for continuing to preach defense. But most of all for integrity. For going out of his way to heal things with Haywood. And for agreeing to Ayers and Hopla coming in to replace the assistants Jordan had (presumably) picked. What other NBA coach could/would get his own ego out of the way enough to allow that? My admiration for the man is huge.

Ayers for preaching a better defense, for bringing the credentials to get the guys to listen, and even more for getting the guys to believe they can be an excellent defensive team.

Hopla for bringing the credibility and enthusiasm to get the guys to improve their shooting.

We played great inspired defense and excellence in our core areas:Rebounding,
Steals,Lockdown Defense ,Fastbreaking and Finally our Three-Point Shooting.
This is the team I envisioned would win a championship and how timely all
this has occured coming up to 30 years from our 1978 championship series!
We have all the characteristics to win the big game and everyone around the
country and world can sense something good is about to happen here! I
read the Agent Zero would like to come off the bench as a reserved to get
is rhythm and timing when he comes back, so I say that only makes since
because this team right now is in sync with each other then eventually he will
regain his all-star form at which time he can take his rightful leadership
position. Gil must conform to this defensive mindset first then let is God given
offensive talent lead us to our final distination which is the Big Dance!

Comment from GrifonRacing

Welcome back Neal.

Wow Guys we beat Boston twice and now Dallas! I guess we are pretty good huh? Should be a good game Wednesday with us clicking on all cylinders against the Lebron’s.

I’m sorry you guys missed it (I taped it and watched it when I got home avoiding ALL news as I drove lol). That was a defensive thing of beauty. If we didn’t steal the ball we deflected it or blocked it. We still have a little trouble rotating out to the 3 point shooters and they hurt us a little there, but, for the most part, the Wizards can now be called a good defensive team? Who would have thougth that before this season? I’m with ya Neal… Coach Ayers really seems to have made a huge impact.

Caronimo ( gotta give Bridge a buck now) is a flat out LOCK for the All Star Team! Every night he fills up the stat sheet and makes Tom smile lol. Deshawn really had his shot working tonight. He hit a 30 foot 3 pointer in the 2nd quarter only to be outdone by Caron’s 35 footer to end the game. Oh and Nick almost hit a 3/4 court shot to end the first half. I may be wrong but I don’t think so. We got the lead early in the 2nd quarter, and they tied it a few times but I don’t think we ever relinquished the lead the rest of the game. Our bench didn’t play much, but, when they came in we got quality minutes from them. Pesh blocked a shot and played well. Nick had a sweet tomahawk Jam of a steal and fast break. It was just a Fun game to watch.

Aundra I sure hope Gil’s devotion to the team is what it seems. He certainly could take us to the next level if he buys into the “team” concept. I just hope the “I’ll come off the bench” statement isn’t the same one as “I’ll take less money for the betterment of the team”. If he is serious this time……. It just could be the “Big Dance” for us :)

at this point there is nobody we can’t beat. this team just seems to pull out wins night in and night out no matter who it is. bring back gil we may be talking championship! we beat the celts twice, and swept the mavs. this next game is very important we must make a statement against the cavs! with a healthy team i felt like we would have played the spurs. i think the league has fear of the wiz now! this is for real and were legit!
