GAME DAY T-WOLVES

Click here to LISTEN LIVE online!

7:08 AM… Dave Johnson checking in…time flies when you are having fun..home stand ends tonight against the T-Wolves—though we just step away for one game against Miami—BLOGCAST starts at 7 with Eddie Jordan pre-game interview–feel free to post your questions….It has been a good stay in town and the Wizards have just played sound basketball….even played well in loss to the Suns…as Antawn Jamison told us on the radio after the win over the Nets—they had success when they made the Nets work harder on defense by making that extra pass and  also when they were able to get out and run..as Antawn admitted there were times he got caught up in taking an early shot but the Wizards corrected things and the result was another win—couple of notes… Jamison has recorded a double-double in six consecutive games, matching his longest such streak as a Wizard (11/19/05 – 11/30/05).  With a double-double tonight, Jamison will match his longest career streak of consecutive double-doubles (seven straight from 12/27/00 – 1/8/0—The last Wizard to record seven straight double-doubles was Rod Strickland, who did so in eight straight games from February 10-26, 1998.—-Darius Songaila is a game time decision with a sprained left ankle.check back later

6:10 PM……dave johnson checking in court side…thanks for all the posts I LOVE reading them..Songaila is a game time decision—though I have a feeling (just me) he might sit this one out…—likely mean more of Dom McGuire—–TWolves will try to pound it inside…..look for double teams and Brendan to try and use his length against Al Jefferson

6:40PM….starters are in…daniels, stevenson, haywood, butler, jamison……telfair, jaric, jefferson, smith, brewer…smith has been hot of late for the TWolves –shooting 60 % last 7 games..online radio broadcast starts at 7

The Wiz have to beat up on the T-Wolves. This is a game they have to win…..The Wolves are down now, and the Wizards are at home in front of their fans. Just tell Eddie that this fan likes the way he handels the team, and the way he’s fitting what he has into the rotation..

Go Wizards

Why do we always seem to get Popeye right after he eats the spinach? They have won only 3 games all season, but, beat the Suns in their last game. Jefferson played like a total beast. It’s going to take a real effort by Haywood and Blatche to slow him down a little.

We Need This One! Go Wizards!

The heat is on to break out of this one win one lose routine we are in.
There has to be a point when teammates make a push to break out toward Orlando.
This mediocrity has been the norm for to long. The starter/veterans have to be consistent from the start and not play in spuirts. The Stevenson issue is steal up for grabs because there has been a real inconsistency there. The bench has to produce over 35points ,20 rebounds,12 assists,7steals and 7 blocked shoots to be effective. The three point issue is still up for grabs because there has been a real inconsistency there. The rookies have made some progress with Nick Young having some success but he got the fish pole retrieval early last game and Dmac has yet to go for a Dunk because my guess he is scared! Lets keep making our freethrows, steals,b;ocks and play tough defense because we cannot afford any errors!

It’s good you posted all these stats wermol. We’ll have a look at ‘em just after winning the championship and we’ll all laugh lol. Anyway tonight’s game is almost a must win. I don’t want to see the Wiz getting killed from downtown by a guy who looks like… anyway as I was saying by Antoine Walker!! I hope we can grab a confortable win tonight!

As I said on the other site, we should be able to beat these guys at home with McGuire and four hot dog vendors.

I trust we’re through with this silly not broadcasting the games stuff.

Having Songaila back for tonights game will be very important. And not because I actually want to see him tonight all that much, but because he at least can afford 5 minutes of rest for other Centers should we need it.

A great poster from the Realgm boards said “We are designed to beat the Wolves” and I completely agree with him.

Minnesota is dangerous from inside. And this is exactly where our best defenders are (Haywood, Blatche). So having Songaila back just gives those two guys a little more security to play hard and not worry that much about picking up quick fouls. I can live with Songaila at C for 5 minutes, but I really don’t want us going small tonight.

hey lilgil you are from Switzerland, right? I’ll be there in June for EURO2008, in Zurich to see my team Romania play couple of games… it will is tough to get tickets though. You have any suggestions?
On the wiz tonight, it will be a win. No questions about it… hopefully a blowout so we can rest some starters for Miami… then it’s on! If we win there, then I can make the statement that we’ll be in the playoff contention even without Gil!

Yeah I also got the mail for Gilbert’s very own shop but for everyone who had the Agent Zero’s package it ain’t worth it!
arden1006- Great to hear from a soccer fan. For the tickets well you have to fullfil only two conditions man, being rich AND one of the most luckiest man in the world lol. No but honestly getting tickets for the euro is a huge challenge for soccer’s fan. The tickets are very very expensive and you have to take part into some kind of lottery to get tickets… You should directly see with the Romanian soccer’s association cuz they should get some tickets and then I guess it’ll be a lil easier for you to get ‘em. I hope you’ll get some!!

As for the Wiz I think everyone has pretty much the same point of view, this team is coming on the floor tonight 8-12 which is not that bad but as you guys stated they’re strong inside but we’re even stronger to defend inside. Last time we played they had 7 three pointers, and 3 of ‘em were from Walker, who shot 5 and got 3. This might not seem any impresive but we gotta stay focus…

Thanks for the update on Darius guys.

Dave, what ever happened to the Wizards Magazine video interviews? I don’t remember seeing much of them lately. I used to really like them.

One more thing…I was browsing through some older Wizards videos on youtube and found the Dunking with Donell Taylor video. Any chance we could get a Dunking with Nick Young video from practice sessions :D ? I hear he is doing some mad dunks during practice, getting something like this up on youtube could really spark his run to the dunk contest.

I have a feeling Young has done something to “get rid” of his minutes. If you remember, he got 16 seconds in the NJN game in the 4th quarter. He left a guy wide open for a three and got instantly taken out. Seems to me the coach is sending a message to the rookie – “No defense – no play time.”

Nice win — what a great job by Haywood in the 2d half. Wow.

Roger Mason is doing everything he needs to do — I might have been wrong about him, neal. I can be wrong you know (not often). :)

Mcguire contributed very well tonight in almost 11 minutes: a steal, an assist, 2 rebounds and made his only FG attempt. No turnovers and only 1 foul.

Good win. Glad we didn’t have to use Songaila.

Jordan used to put Haywood on the bench in crunch time. My how time changes things.

Mason apparently has gotten his confidence. He looks really good. The announcer said he has 5 years in the league. I think this is only his third. I think he had a year in Europe and a year in Israel.

Hello Wizards Fans we got a treat tonight because atleast 6 players scored in double figures and some got double double”Haywood&Jamison” The team is really feeding into Coach Jordan philosophy reguarding team ball and rebounding! I would now like to give out the special awards for tonights game. Brought to you be me Aundra 2007.

The Freethrow Supremacy Award: R Mason perfect from the charity stripe.
The Rebounds For All Five Award: Butler,Jamison,Haywood and Blatche.
The 5 Assist Award : Stevenson,Jamison
The Block Party Award”: Blatche for his Big 3 Blocks
The Steals Award for tonight go’s to Antonio Daniels
The Most Recognition Award go’s to the person who provided energy and scoring
explosion off the bench: Mr Rolls Royce Roger Mason!!
We played disciplined team ball with few mistakes because we could not afford to even
against a 3 and 15 team. The concept of team ball is working but there is definitely more room for improvement! The three pointers are coming along but its a slow but steady process. The bench looks fair except R.Mason and D Songalia so there is room for improvement there. I would definitely like to see more Zone Defense against strong physical teams like Miami and Detroit also the high pick screens could be effective to spring open the three point shooters. The captains need to hold a meeting to let them know what to expect from the noisy loud crowd in Miami. We have alot of work if we are going to make the playoffs. So lets have at it!

Hi Guys… Great Game!

Mason is becoming a real “keeper”! Since he started attacking the lane, as well as shooting that sweet set shot of his, he is becoming very effective as a point guard. He is a better ball handler and defender than I thought too. It’s really nice to have a player or players at every position that have filled a void that we all worried about pre-season. We are becoming strong at point guard, and, have been good since the beginning of the season at Center (Thanks to Brendan’s break out year and Andre’s size and quickness). Stevenson is starting to fire on all cylinders. Songaila had his best overall game as a Wizard against the Nets. McGuire had a good stat line tonight! I hear Pesherov isn’t healing though :( That is the only bad news I can think of?

Wermol… Great Stats as usual! I really enjoy those stats of yours! Who woulda thought Wes had the most career Bullets/Wizards assists? Gilbert is moving up in all categories very fast isn’t he? With all the good players the Bullets/Wizards have had over the years, that only confirms how good he really is.

Here is a question for all of you (don’t know the answer myself)….. Has there ever been a team that suited up 9 players for “most” of the season if not all of it that has advanced to any stage of the playoffs? Has any 9 man team ever won it all???

Comment from BruceO

I was concerned for a while when blatche went down at the half. WE were playing without a center on the court. Not even songaila. It’d be ridiculous if Brendans in foul trouble, Blatche has an ankle sprain, songaila one from the previous game, Pech with an Injury out for a while and Etan with a heart condition. I was on the verge of thinking how we needed to sign people to ten day contracts.. Bring back party john!! ( PJ ramos)

So whats you guys take on the game? I saw the emergence of roger mason.. Dmac had a good game. Haywood is now able to play as well as any top center in the league hes matched up well with all the PF/C studs like Tim duncan, Howard, Garnett, Jefferson,Z and O’neal. for what we are paying him he’s a beast.
I’m also glad that our offense is balanced. Its looking more and more like a team sport. I think thats better for our team. Also our defense has had its dependable stretches where we cause trouble to the opposing team. We look poised and I’m glad we are no longer that young team anymore and we have vets. Craig smith had a big night but I think a huge part of that was because the defensive game plan was geared towards stopping Al jefferson. Either way it raised a few concerns to me about Blatches strength. I think if he’s stronger he’ll be a bigger force and won’t be bullied in a few plays here and there. Also I don’t like him settling for jumpers that much. I know he can hit those but at a lower percentage than him scoring mostly in the paint. Nick young didn’t score much but I was happier seeing his hustle plays. He went after alot of rebounds and was there alot of times haywood or Jamison was. Atleast other aspects of his game are coming out and it goes a long way towards making sure he’s not one dimensional.
In the rotation I’ve noticed a big guard lineup when we our forwards and centers go small. I’d like to hear more about what you guys think

I didn’t get to see the game, because Comcast Sportsnet decided that, even though it was scheduled, they’d show some kind of boxing performance instead.

I’m pretty sure that tonight’s game at Miami will be a tough one. Home/road back to backs must be hard, for starters, and Miami is beginning to pick it up. Here’s hoping Songaila and Blatche aren’t hampered by ankles, and here’s hoping Roger keeps up his level of play: he has been terrific the last week or so.

Very good win! Glad to see Stevenson finding his shot. Huge game by Mason. My man Nick wasn’t the spark of the bench today but at least someone was.

Next up Miami. I will be really watching this game closely to see the importance of having Stevenson starting at the two, because he will be guarding D-Wade. If he can hold Wade to under his season average of 23 points, I will shut-up.

well as far as the stevenson on wade situation goes. when the game is over u look at the box score and wade has 30 for instance. well that is not all on stevenson when deshawn plays around 20-30 min a game and d-wade scores on the subs. as long as wades in, deshawn should be in. and i gaurentee u, deshawn will make it a bad night for wade, he will have to work for every point he gets! ne way when will someone give credit where credit is due. “MEDIA & FANS” the wizards are winning, without gil, and if they make the playoffs it will not be because of the big three! and let me clear the air. if u people dont think deshawn is good enough to start or be on this team. then let him go! and see how much ur defense sucks when he leaves. when hughes left we struggled. the heat ran over us. jeffries was a laughing case! deshawn came in last year and all of a sudden the wizards were the premiere team for at least 3 months before gil and caron left. give deshawn some credit. the wizards have three good defenders. stevenson, haywood, and etan. etan is out. deshawn and haywood are carrying this team. with the help of carons fire power and jamisons veteran emphasis. u start nick young and bench deshawn and we will not make the playoffs! ONE final point. SUPERSTARS CANNOT BE STOPPED. THEY CAN ONLY BE CONTAINED! deshawn is not in the top 10 in steals or blocks. but it is his defensive pressure that has his opposing two gaurds struggling. jordan can never play a game and not score! neither kobe, lebron, or t-mac. but if u give them tough looks and make it hard for em they will struggle just asks bruce bowen! by the way they came from the high school to! GO STEVENSON!

Comment from brian
Time December 12, 2007 at 8:31 PM

im sorry i had to say something else! if the spurs can struggle with bruces lack of offensive skills why cant the wizards with stevenson. when bruce leaves the game the offense without a doubt gets better with ginobli or finley whomever subs for him! but the defense is not as strong. you all cant deny that when stevenson subs out there goes the defense! in comes excitement, points, and also turnovers and opponents going on runs! deshawn without a doubt is a better offensive player than bruce. bowen can only hit the side 3! deshawn can slash, penetrate, hit jumpers and three’s occasionally. AM I WRONG BRUCE?

Comment from BruceO
Time December 13, 2007 at 5:18 AM

it confuses me when other people mention bruce’s that are not me..:-)
I’m also interested in the Wade vs deshawn matchup. I kind of feel that shaq won’t be as huge an issue to haywood as old shaq ( but don’t want to jinx us),Blatche vs mourning I’m fine with that, Udonis vs Jamison I’m fine with that, same with Caron vs ricky davis.. but they have some new good rebounding forwards who’s names I dont know, Wade vs Deshawn we mentioned, I also want to see Cook their rookie vs Nick young, they hav similar stats and cook is very confident. I don’t know who they run out of the point nowadays all that smush+ penny + J.will is confusing.. I don’t know who they’ll run at AD. I kind of like our matchups I also like that we can seemingly sub confortably other than the shooting guard and Center position. I kind of see us running mason and deshawn or any two big gaurds, we can do some Jamison + songaila combinations etc.
Also someone once said that the wizards have trouble with teams with multiple deep shooting threats and guards that penetrate. I recall us being hurt by both those things and also thinking we were being killed by uptempo teams but maybe the deep scores and penetration were things those teams did anyway. Miami doesn’t exhibit this as much, I can’t recall that many deep threats they have..even wade can’t shoot that well from a distance.. but wade does penetrate..fortunately its not out of the point guard spot. With their point guard not being a big threat offensively I think we have the luxury to experiment with that spot.

thanks for the shoutout about my post under songaila’s update. i kinda want our evaluations to be group efforts, the broadcasters read our posts and they talk to the coaches..and it can be useful for the team. Just because they are the pros doesn’t mean we can’t get a little input here and there since we care about the team

Like I said in a pervious post you guys seem to know a lot about basketball especially BruceO and Tom you guys are my heroes. All and all I will be watching the game closely for those reason stated above. Tom, I know 5 for 15 is not a high percentage but its way better the playing 25 min and not scoring. BruceO I know that Stevenson probably won’t completely stop Wade that’s why I said if he can hold him to his season average, anything above that to me he is just going off on our best defensive player.
