GAME DAY WARRIORS
7:57 AM…Dave Johnson checking in…it is game day…. BLOGCAST will start at 7 tonight….hope you can join us…a link for listening online will be posted at the top of the page before game time……going for seven wins in a row…. A win against the Warriors will give Washington its first seven-game winning streak since the 2004-05 season, when the Wizards won seven consecutive games from January 2-15, 2005..yes Gilbert is going to be missed…but I am encouraged by our depth….I remember last yearat this time I was wodnering where the scoring would come from beyond the big three……wel are seeing confirmation that Nick Young can create and score off the bench… and how about Blatche… he has averaged 19.0 points (.621 fg%), 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 blocks in the last two games…..in short we are in better psotion this year to try and make up for Gil’s lost points…. check back later…feel free to post questions.. and by the way Pecherov is probably two weeks away from coming back.
6:20PM…starters are in…Haywood is back….jamison, butler, stevenson, daniels…..golden state…davis, azubike, jackson, harrington, biedrins….we are hearing blogging..ONLINE radio ..starts at 7 with Eddie Jordan interview…

Yes that is very good news about Pecherov. He played amazingly in team camp and summer league. I think he will be a great + to the 4/5 spots when he gets adjusted and gets the hang of playing in the NBA but I think he will do good things for this ball club…….Hey Dave I have a question for Eddie Jordan: now that Gilbert is injured, how will your recent philosophy of running an 8 man rotation work? will the wizards still run that or will we see more action from the rookies, Roger, etc? if we do see more action who should we expect to see get the most improved amount of playing time? which players need to step up in this present loss of gilbert for a few months?

DAVE & GLEN Good morning I would like to know if the Verizon Center have Wi-Fi connected because I will be at the game and I would love to Blog from there live!
This game against Golden State is similar to Charlotte except you have two excellent Shooting Guards to cover in Monta Ellis and Baron Davis. We know they shoot 25 to 30
three-pointers per game so we really have to limit them from shooting over 20 % or it will be a long day.Boston used a very, very tight defense to slow down this high scoring team and made there own three-pointers in the process.I feel Mcguire could be used to slow down Harrington and preventing him from going off on a rampage. We must remain fundamentally sound from the freethrow line and limit bonehead turnovers. However we must start to open up our game offensively because it only makes sense do to the high scoring teams coming up from here on out!

first of, I’m glad to be here. Second, check your spelling or someone is going to be dumb about the comments…lol. Third, I am very encouraged by our bench play so far. And yes, Gilbert will be truly missed. Not only is Gilbert a great player, he’s also one of the NBA’s most entertaining players and for that he’ll be missed not only by us dedicated Wiz fans but NBA fans in general. So heal well Gilbert…
It will be interesting to see the development of our bench as the next 3 months pass by, especially seeing Nick Young get playing time has been a good thing. I feel over the past few seasons our new talents has been crippled and pacified istead of being baptized by fire.
For tonight, stick to a defensive philosophy, clamp down on the outside shooters, bang inside the paint, give ourselves second chance scoring opportunities, and I think we do pretty good. Blatche has come along nicely and will definitely be the spark we may need in this game for a win. Caron holding steady will be our force, and Daniels can give us a boost in the scoring department as well as defense as he’s been doing the past few games…but let’s hope we stay committed to the defensive end of the floor all season.
In the meantime, it’s going to be fun watching Jamison go up against the squad he made NBA history with….maybe he can do a lil sum’n tonight. heh.
Wiz, do ya thing. My eyes follow at all times anticipation the best.

i want this streak to keep going with Haywood doing his thing tonight and AB playing the 4 that IMO he is better at i think we can win this one.. Caron has been stepping his game way up and AJ is going to do his thing all day we got this but we need a back up for AD no matter who it is as long as they can pass the ball a little and bring the D

I heard pech was shooting from the half court the other day with a walking boot on. I can’t wait for him to get back. He’s going to kill people on the perimeter, they’re going to be surprised by a 7 footer shooting really well. The whole time I’m going to be saying in pechs voice
Pech: I get mad buckets son, i get mad buckets son…

What’s the chance of us geting another point guard? I think Earl Boykins is still out there. Sign him to a one year deal.

Time November 23, 2007 at 3:47 PM
our shooting gaurds are going to play the point for awhile. once we figure out whether they can do it or not we will make moves. We ran larry hughes at the point ( he plays shooting guard sometimes), we’ve played gil at point (shoting gaurd again) Deshawn even though his handle doesnt look that good to me was groomed to play the point in Utah. Nick young although a rookie also has a good handle and might be a big point gaurd. Roger mason as well has worked at the point. We’ve had a history of getting combo guards so they can do the point at some time and I think we might see some of the combos doing so. I actually saw Nick young and deshawn at one point on the floor together. Also in some big lineups to rest the gaurds we might play caron at the two and Jamison at the Sf. I also think once Pech comes back that gives us additional flexibility as far as big men. The only thing this means is death to small ball
Comment from BruceO
Time November 23, 2007 at 3:51 PM
BTW I would not be willing to go over the cap to sign a point gaurd. ‘d just say forget about it and let the two’s run the system. I don’t think its a point gaurd oriented system as far as distribution. I’d rather let our young guys develop than spend money on a temporary purchase just to have a good record. I’d just run the players through this adversity, let them look to each other to step up and prepare them for the playoffs or next year after gil resigns and we’ve used all the money we’ve saved this year to make purchases next year. You guys should seriously look at free agents 2008 and also draft players 2008 to realize why we might not spend money this year
Comment from neal
Time November 23, 2007 at 4:22 PM
Unfortunately, we can’t use money we save this year on next year’s salaries.
The only stress is this year. After this year Jamison (and Arenas) come off the payroll and it’s a whole new ball game.
And any contract we sign a new player to now would be for no more than a year, I’m sure.

If we do sign someone, I can see reasons for it to be Donell (knows the system, etc.) and reasons for it not to be him (not investing in our future). I don’t know if there’s anyone available who *would* be a worthy investment, on the other hand.
I like the kid that Utah cut (from Illinois), don’t remember his name, but he is playing in Turkey. Aaron Miles is also in Europe. Would Brian Chase really be able to flourish on this level?
I wish Mike Hall could play point guard!

Neal think of it this way. There are organizations whose payroll isnt as expensive as others. IF they had the money to pay more but luckily got the players for cheap they save their expenses. If the wizards don’t pay for anybody or go over the salary cap this year, they get the money distributed to teams below the cap plus they don’t pay double for a free agent player because they are over the cap. All those are expenses . The money that would have spent on salary be it from the wizards pockets or Abe Pollins would definately been saved. It can be spent on other expenses of the organization including future salaries IMO

Hey ask Eddie about whether we will have the shooting gaurds stepping in at the point. Ive noticed we’ve had a history of looking for combo gaurds and some of them have played both the shooting and point guard. I’ve noticed they’ve run nick, Roger Mason and Deshawn at the point. Deshawn was groomed to be a point guards once right?

I want to see how Andray does against Biedriens. I also want to see what matchups we’ll have against ellis. I remember when he was on the draft charts looking at his ability to score and thinking he’s going to be successful. But that was a lucky inkling that I could have easily been wrong about. I kinda feel the same way about Nick young now. I feel once his defense, awareness, aggresion and toughness comes he’ll be an elite shooting gaurd

So far over our streak we come out in the third and fourth playing solid defense and put the game away. At this point the fact that they’re not leading means we can win this game if we control it on both ends. Put more Blatche in the second. He has 9 points 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in 9 minutes of play. NY has 6 points in 6 minutes

Nick Young also turns the ball over a lot. While I absolutely love his offensive skillset and confidence he doesn’t do much else all that well yet. I’d rather have a seasoned player in there when it matters the most. Still we’ll need his scoring off the bench in the 2nd half.

There is no doubt in my mind that Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison deserve all-star spots. Their consistently great play should be enough, I hope, to land them both those spots. I know I will be voting every day for our guys and hope you all do the same. I salute Mr. Butler for his triple-double. Same to Jamison for his great game. Nick Young with another career high…what more can you ask. I just wish we had missed less than 11 free throws.
There’s only so much they can do when a team chucks that many 3’s..and makes most of them.

I just got home from a terriffic ball game eventhough we lost I seen alot of positives!
The first we have a real unstoppable player in Nick Young and second Andray Blatche
will do high damage down low and with his midrange jumpers. The defense could not stop Baron Davis penetrating at all he looks unstoppable and is very smart and clever. The damage cam from the penetration then bounce past to the three point shooter who converted quite a few threes. We could have won if the we had a better game plan for these extremely quick point guard who like to take over the game either though penetration or pitching to the three ballers.I wish we played more two three zone or some kind of zone to slow down Baron but it seems the coaching staff went with one on one and we continued to get burned.I really did not like taking a hot Nick Young out at the 2:40 minute mark because we did not have a pure scorer on the court who could create his own shot but thats not my decision! We were doomed fromm the start because we had no answer for the penetrating Baron Davis!Ball Game !

I didnt like them pulling nick young too In the end. He was part of a group that caught up after lagging behind for a few minutes. Should have kept him in a little longer to maintain the scoring we needed. He had a good percentage. Then again he had alot of TO’s. As long as we know we have him around for the future. Once he works out other aspects of his game he’ll still have that ability to score in a hard to stop way

I agree with Aundra, we should have given them a different look on D. What ever happend to Caron at the 2-guard and Blatche and Haywood in there at the same time. That way you can guard the 3-ball and let them penatrate where they have to deal with 2 shot blockers.
Would someone coach Andray to please stop trying to take charges! He gets the call about 1 out of every five times. Just take a couple of steps back and block the shot - like McGuire does. Having Blatche playing timid with the 5 fouls hurt the defense.
I put a lot of blame on the coaches for this one. It looked like the game plan was to let the Warriors fire at will from 3 point range. Maybe in the 4th quarter their arms would get tired. Of course they are going to hit a high % of 3’s - most of them were uncontested. The team was poorly prepared for this game. There is no excuse to give up 123 points at home. How can the Celtics hold this same Warriors team to 82 points last night and the Wiz give up 123. I’ll tell you how; they played a legit center (Perkins) and power forward (Garnett) inside to block shots and guarded the 3-point line with the three other players. That’s how. Pretty simple, really.
I do think that Jordan did the right thing in pulling Young when he did. Nick did enough to help the team win. Let him come out feeling good The Vets have the responsibility for bringing home the bacon. The problem is that he should have replaced him with Haywood and gone to a zone then replace him with Stephenson.
Let’s see how the game with Memphis goes. Juan Carlos Navarro is warming up behind the arc, licking his chops.
Go big, Eddie, go big.

We lost because:
Jordan’s philosophy has always been to not worry much about perimeter shots.
GS made 16 three pointers.
The really good defenses are able to defend both the perimeter and inside.
It’s hard to believe Pollin isn’t letting Grunfeld sign another player. Stoooooopid.
I hope we’re not tired or downhearted tonight. Go Wiz.
