ANOTHER SOLID GAME FROM SONGAILA
In a battle of the remaining two unbeaten teams at EuroBasket 2007, Wizards forward Darius Songaila had another solid performance by scoring 17 points and four rebounds to help Lithuania defeat Slovenia, 80-61, on Wednesday in Madrid, Spain.
Key Stats: Slovenia, who also came into the game with a perfect record, succumbed to Lithuania’s overall size and depth, getting out-rebounded 44-22 while being out-scored 28-14 in the final 15 minutes.
Darius Songaila: “We are already happy with what we have achieved at the EuroBasket but Friday is the game for us and I hope it will be our day and we can beat Greece. The difference between this year and last is that we have Ramunas (Siskauskas) and Saras.”
Lithuania, finishing as the top team in Group F of the qualifying round, is the only undefeated team in this tournament and will set up a quarter-final match-up with Croatia, the fourth place team from Group E on Friday. The Champions and the second place team in EuroBasket 2007 will get an automatic bid to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

I think he would have been a much bigger presence for us last year if it didn’t take so long for his back to heal. This year he will start the season off healthy and in shape. It’s only a little more than a month away guys!

Songaila is getting great experience in high profile games – and handling the pressure well, apparently.
