COMMISSIONER STERN ADDRESSES DONAGHY SITUATION

In response to stories that the FBI is investigating an NBA referee (Tim Donaghy) who bet on games he officiated, Commissioner David Stern discussed the gambling scandal with the media in a press conference earlier this morning. Watch Video

NBA Commissioner David Stern has issued the following statement:

“As we previously stated, we have been cooperating with the FBI in their investigation of allegations that a single NBA referee bet on NBA games that he officiated. As part of that cooperation, we were asked by the Government not to comment about the investigation, but in light of the widespread press coverage and the naming of the referee, Tim Donaghy, we consider it appropriate to make a fuller statement.

“We would like to assure our fans that no amount of effort, time or personnel is being spared to assist in this investigation, to bring to justice an individual who has betrayed the most sacred trust in professional sports, and to take the necessary steps to protect against this ever happening again. We will have more to say at a press conference that will be scheduled for next week.”

I wonder if Tim Donaghy ref’ed any games between the Wizards and the Heat for the last few seasons?

have you watched suns spurs from last season? ridiculous calls its on youtube http://youtube.com/watch?v=fvkKdXLwt0U amazingly bad calls. But i’ve heard stories of some of these nba players been threatened by mob or gangs to tank games. It’s in some street magazine about gangs with insider info. Like they say dirk might have been warned not to hit some freethrows in the heat - dallas final. This game spurs - suns made me hate spurs. The way they did flagrant fouls on nash too was sickening he got his nose bashed making him have to sit out the last moments of one of the games. If you look at that series for one game stoudamire got banned, for another game nash got hit to a point he couldnt walk into the game until very late making san antonio run away with it, and then this game has stupid calls

OH btw If i was the suns I would have walked out on this game. I’ve always thought the refs have too much power. There should be some sort of replay verification to make sure the right call is made everytime and we are not relying on the refs the whole time, we have video lets use it for something. When coaches and players critisized these refs they got fined as though they were always in the wrong. Now look whats going on because of unbalanced justice system and automatic fines people couldnt voice their complaints without consequence, the referee’s made bad calls that decide games and players are supposed to look away and act like gracious losers when you’ve worked hard to be robbed at the finish line

David Sterns definitely had carnal knowledge of this Donagh situation way prior to the big blew up. It seems to me he always has this Deer In The Head Lights look when asked questions, if he had information prior to then I feel he definitely needs to tell the truth and take some blame also. This is a very defining moment for his leagacy and he is on some slippery footing if you ask me! The thruth will set you free because any lies from here on out will be scrutinized severely!

well i think there is always a little no call thing going on when LBJ is on the floor and the same with Kobe and all the big stars and i could care less untill the playoffs and the 2-3 game winning no calls that kinda makes you mad point spred is no big deal if the team is going to win anyway

Stern look like he was going to cry. I find it hard to believe it’s an isolated incident. It maybe but I don’t think so. Lots of changes needs to be made.

And the answer is ‘yes” Tim Donaghy has worked many Wizards games the past two seasons. I’m not sure if he worked the one when Gil got 3 free throws at the end of the game (GS) or in the playoffs when LeTravel got away with walking a mile to the basket.

I know for sure he worked the Knicks against Heat. The Knicks shot 39 free throws and the Heat only shot 8. I remember thinking “WHOA” Lots of fouls in that game against the Heat..
