Daniels can't start on an up-and-down team, that's not his style. Anyway, this is one of those wild trade ideas that don't really mean anything. About as significant as someone who thinks he can see into the future and *knows* what Arenas will do.

Yes Gasol does play the 5 & 4, as far as defense I think you could agree that he would be better than Haywood. Also Gasol can step out of the box and open up space for Daniels/Butler to get to some easy buckets. This would be a GREAT trade, plus Gil is going to leave next year no matter what he says and no matter what people want to believe!

I would rather see us trade Gilbert/Thomas/Blatche to the Griz for Gasol/Conley and let Daniels start at PG for the first year while Conley learned the system. Then we would actually have a low post player and more balance team.

Reuben -- nobody is suggesting trading Gilbert. This is just a product of idle minds waiting to hear about *some* kind of trade to finalize the roster for the upcoming year.

On the other hand, gilbert and brendan for aldridge and roy would *not* be a terrible trade for the Wizards. Portland would never *make* that trade, but if it happened it'd be just fine.

Right now, I wouldn't change the guard rotation from last year. I think Nick is *very* far from ready to play in the NBA. But, of course, I'd be looking at him very closely in camp.

Your other idea is interesting. I love Gilbert -- a great player and a great person - but just as a 'what if' it's an interesting exercise. But, it's more trouble than it's worth to work out salaries as if this would really happen. The only center in the league I *really* want right now is LaMarcus Aldridge. Would I trade Arenas and e.g. Haywood for him and e.g. Jarrett Jack. Maybe. Make it Brandon Roy and it's a done deal! In fact, it's quite one-sided.
