THIBODEAU “HAD A CHANGE OF HEART”

Coach Jordan told the media that Tom Thibodeau, who was hired as an assistant coach earlier this week, has decided to pursue other options and will not join the Wizards coaching staff.

“He’s had a change of heart, and he is going to pursue other options,” said Jordan. “He was here for a few days, but we had a meeting with him this morning, and he informed us that he’s had a change of heart. We thought he’d be a terrific addition, but he wants to pursue some other things. We’ll move forward, and go in a different direction.”

He left because they made him look like he was the coach in waiting because he was given a 2 year contract and his fellow employees one year deals and the removal of another Berry was another factor because it makes him look like the fall guy not Ernie or Mr Pollin he has to work and interact with the other coaches

I presume he was Grunfeld’s guy. Maybe he got bad vibes when he got here and talked to Jordan. Not good. Anybody know why he was fired in Houston?

Comment from WizDom
Time July 7, 2007 at 11:02 PM

I believe he left Houston becuase Van Gundy was fired and he’s part of Van Gundy’s team.

son of a biscuiteater. i cannot stand the Billy Donovans etc that take jobs and then change their minds. thats unfair to the organizations involved. part of being a leader is being decisive.

we HAVE to find a defensive specialist, because we cannot lose Gil. If our defense does not improve, then we will not improve on last year and Gil will leave. COME ON JORDAN/GRUNSFELD, GET US SOME DEFENSE

I’m confused. Why is everyone insisting on thinking Gil is leaving. I read his blog as everyone. I didn’t anywhere in there where he said he was leaving the Wizards. I read where he explained he was opting out to get more money and remain in one place for a long period of time. Yet, everywhere I read now, he’s being quoted as saying, he’s opting because he’s not happy in Washington.

Give me a break!!!!

Well do you seriously think that if we loose 81 games next year Gil will stay. If this happend happend it would simply be stupid to stay… The only point is that we have not to focus on making Gil happy, Gil isn’t a coach neither a gm, he’s a player and has to play with his teammates whoever they are. Let’s focus on building the best team we can and Gil will stay cuz the team’ll be awesome…

What does Coach Thibodeau Know about the Wizards?

Comment from Wiz034

Lose 81 games are you serious? Before we were devastated with injuries we were #1 in the East. I believe Gil knows the team is up and coming and that EG will do whatever it takes to continue to build this team around him. Gil made the announcement that he wants the same team mates as last season and I’m sure he knows that with the players just added that the team may have just gotten even better.

I’m just amazed at the interpetation of what Gil announced and what’s been floating around. it’s blown out of porportion..Matter of fact, Gil’s blog started out by saying. “Don’t worry Wizards fans. He wasn’t going anywhere.

In other words until Gil comes out like Kobe and say ..that’s he wants to be traded. I’m not buying it and we all know Gil isn’t shy about telling his true feelings…

yeah I always find it funny when people think he’s leaving, this offense and situation is perfect for him. He only opted out, lots of people do that and most people resign. we were first in the east and one or two pieces away from the finals, maybe we’ve added it in young, Dmac and navarro . I know a good big man would certainly do it. He wants the core intact so a big part of the destiny of where the season goes is decided by him. If ernie is given complete freedom to build a team without peoples feelings getting hurt (hayes, stevenson, Ad, ruffin, etan and brendan) we have enough pieces to win with or trade for a really solid team.

Btw, I never thought and I still don’t think Gil’ll leave… After the moves the wiz have done so far and I believe they’ll make some other great ones well he’ll feel just as at home… I said 81 games just to shock you, I don’t see us having a worse season than last season since our team’ll be even better. I’m just waiting to see what EG will find us as center!

Comment from WizDom

I think center will be Haywood, Booth and Pech.

Comment from LilGil
Time July 8, 2007 at 6:30 PM

Who do you feel we’ll get by trading the almost un-tradable (due to his contract) Thomas and how do you feel the Haywood-EJ relationship?? Do you feel like these guys can really be solid enough to carry the wiz :S??

Comment from neal
Time July 8, 2007 at 6:31 PM

It’s all up in the air. Maybe our 3rd center will be this guy on our summer league team (Vissar?). Maybe we’ll end up with both Haywood & Thomas again.

LilGil,

If we sign Stevenson at that deal.. I don’t think we can sign Navarro..
So we trade him and Etan to… hmm.. Memphis… for ??

I don’t think we can get Gay or Conley..
Maybe Lowry?
Maybe a protected 1st?
We use Navarro to basically get rid of Etan’s contract…. if we get something in return, it’s better for us.

Comment from wiz-skins07
Time July 8, 2007 at 6:54 PM

Lowry? why is everybody making so much noise about him…isnt he a point gaurd and if he is so good why did they just draft Conley….if we do trade Navarro to Memphis it has to be for Conley we are over loaded at the 3 maybe Conley and a 2nd Rounder…if we insist they may do it just because Pau Gasol REALLY wants Navarro on Memphis almost anybody would do anything to have their star happy heck we may even get a 1st Rounder

Comment from WizDom
Time July 8, 2007 at 8:03 PM

I don’t think we have a shot at getting Conley..
nor getting Rudy Gay..
Probably not even Lowry…
They drafted Conley because he was the best player available…
Lowry looked pretty good.. alot of potential there.. he might be available due to the drafting of Conley.

LilGil,

I know you were just joshing me..We are only a few pieces away. It wouldn’t make sense for Gil to bolt now. I don’t know much about Navarro except what I saw of him in the games..but as of yesterday they offered DS 15 mil….They are close to cap already so it doesn’t look like they are going to keep the Navarro but instead use him for trade bait but who knows what magic EG will perform. The top Wizards always comes up with something.

Personally, I don’t think DS is worth that much but that’s only my opinion..I’m more interested in who we will get as a Center…

W4L — we have terrific, athletic, young forwards: Caron, Andray, the new kid McGuire, Darius, and a developing Mike Hall. We don’t need another combo forward. And Radmanovic hasn’t worked out after a pretty good start in Seattle.

If Stevenson can’t be retained at a price that would allow the Wizards to keep Navarro, why not sign Jarvis to a one or two year deal for much less (I imagine $2 million per might get it done) and sign Navarro too? Although Stevenson is a better player right now than Jarvis, Jarvis + Navarro > Stevenson.

And if we do trade Juan Carlos Navarro why not??

JCN + Etan for SG Mike Miller (Proven 3 Point Shooter) and Maybe we Swap 1st Rounders or 2nd Rounder

JCN + Etan Thomas for Mike Miller means that we go in the hole another few million dollars. I’m sure that I don’t want to pay luxury tax for a team that has Brendan Haywood as my starting center and Darius Songalia as the backup.

Not to mention that JCN may be a star in Europe, but he isn’t a star in the NBA and could well be a bust. We’re trading a hustle player in Etan, a SG/PG that looks to be a good sixth man for Memphis’s second best player.

This is about the same as asking us to trade Caron Butler for Swift, Lowry and a second rounder. Would you do that trade?

Change the trade to AD+Etan Thomas+JCN+First Rounder(lottery protected) for Mike Miller plus a filler and it might be considered. Not to mention that it will save us a few million dollars.
