BEST AVAILABLE OR BY POSITION?

Anyone out there remember the “Choose Your Own Adventure” books? Loved em as a kid. So here’s a little game along the same lines…

Commissioner Stern has called your team’s name - you’re officially on the clock.

About a dozen or so players have already been selected in the Draft. Your team has a playoff experienced core, but you could use some improvement/depth in a specific position.

So it comes to you, Mr./Ms. GM - do you pick the best player available, or do you draft a player to fill a specific need? The clock is ticking…

I think we need to look for a replacement at SF/SG. Someone like a Nick Young from USC. There is a good chance we will lose either DeShawn or Jarivs, or maybe both so we need someone who can come in and make an impact right away.

A little hidden movie reference contest (I’m eager to start giving stuff out…):

“Pop quiz. Airport. Gunman with one hostage. He’s using her for cover; he’s almost to a plane. You’re a hundred feet away…” What do you do?

First one to answer 1) what the movie the above quote is from, and 2) what the character who answers says he would do - wins a pair of NBA official socks (YES! Just like the ones the players wear!!!)

Hi everyone, I come by a lot but only registered today as I saw I could win some free socks. Hope I can make some good contributions to conversation.

Well as usually I was offline during the contest lol, tonight’ll be different. For my GM choice, I’d take the best player available, Caron gave a good example the other day as it was reported in the sports bog, he spoke about how Miami drafted the best player and now have Dwayne Wade…

Am I too late? I *swear* I didnt’ look at anyone else’s answers, especially not donnyb’s or walthouse’s.

Btw, the answer to the other question is easy too:

*Always* take the best player. You don’t know what your needs are, because you don’t know the future — no one does.

Best Player Available…this is the NBA, not the NFL. You gotta have ballers. I still think they will try to fill the big man void via trade or free agency. In the draft, hopefully they can find someone who can come off the bench for spot work and not let the offense suffer.

Well obviously you shouldn’t do what the magics did few years back when they took pat burke ahead of 10 other players better than him by far, but if you have a need that can be filled by someone that’s maybe 2 or 3 players worse than the best player available, it could make sense.

well i would pick the best player available. if we need him then well keep him but if we dont then i will just trade hiem for a person we need.
