EVERYBODY’S WORKING FOR THE WEEKEND

The Wizards held their eighth pre-draft workout of the off-season on Friday featuring the following players: Mohamed Abukar (San Diego State), Morris Almond (Rice), Caleb Green (Oral Roberts) and DJ Strawberry (Maryland).

Washington will hold workouts again next week in the days before the Draft (Thursday, June 28).

QUOTES:
D.J. Strawberry, Guard, Maryland
On his workout:
“It went well. I shot the ball well and I showed that I can play defense. It was a pretty intense workout and I had fun.”

On his draft status:
“A lot of people say that I might get drafted in the second round but you never know. You never know until draft night. My agent has been telling me to keep playing hard every day and continue to do well in the workouts.”

On the possibility of playing for the Wizards:
“It would be exciting. I have spent four years of my life in this area. I have a lot of family and friends here. I know this area so well and I have been a fan of the Wizards ever since I have been here.”

On his style of play:
“I consider myself a Bruce Bowen, Raja Bell type of player that is going to bring energy on the defensive end. Now my shot is starting to come along, so I am going to be able to hit open shots.”

On playing multiple positions at Maryland:
“I think it was huge because my ball-handling skills have improved. In these workouts, you have to have good ball handling ability. You also have to be able to guard different positions and play different positions.”

Morris Almond, Guard, Rice
On what he wants to show in his workouts:
“I definitely want to play to my strengths. I want to show teams that I can compete, have great intensity, and show the different intangibles that I bring to the game. In terms of skills, I just want to show teams that I am solid and I play at 100 percent all the time.”

On the workout process:
“I entered the process last year, so I was able to get a couple of workouts under my belt to know what to expect. This year coming in, I knew what type of shape I had to be in and what teams wanted to see. I definitely do not want to get too high or too low. Some workouts I am shooting lights out and other days I feel winded.

“Teams already have a pre- conceived notion of you coming in, so I feel the interview process for me is just as important as the actual workout. It is a small piece but it is an important piece of the overall puzzle.”

Any 80’s music fans out there get the title reference? I’m just full of pop culture sayings today…

Wasn’t that Loverboy’s song from the album Get Lucky?

wizdotcom how did Morris Almond look today? I hadn’t even heard of the guy until somebody brought him up on wizardsextreme.com message board. Morris had some pretty sick college stats.

Strawberry, Green and Abukar are all on the bubble to be drafted. Some people thing Green has a shot in the league.

Morris Almond might be the biggest sleeper in the draft — probably going to go at the end of round 1 and likely to be a long-term starter/scorer at 2.

Today’s workout was probably the most intense in terms of energy and grit from a group of perimeter players. Almond’s shot is nice. I’m not the biggest Terp fan, but I must admit, I thought DJ displayed the toughness and defense he’s developed a reputation on.

I know these guys probaly are doing well in the workouts.., But we must Trade 4 Garnett this year. I would give Haywood, Jamison and this years first, probaly next years first too.

GARNETT = Chamionship

Excuse me Wizards4life, but I think that for 3$ and a mini horse we can have way more than that, like Kobe and Wade, you gotta be more realistic please.
