Ok, I'm officially changing my vote to Julian Wright --- that's whom I think (and hope) we'll pick.

Julian Wright -- get him, Wizards.

I thought Blatche was gonna be a 3; now you have him as a 5? I like Andray, but he is no center.

Jarvis should be a sign and trade. He has been a big disappointment. Physically he has degraded instead of improved since he was drafted (at #6 i think!). People refer to him as a pure shooter sometimes and that is silly. His high-archer is as likely to miss the basket entirely as drop into the bottom of the net. That said, he could fit in on a lot of teams and I think we could get a decent to good backup guard for him.

Daniels is a solid player, but I agree that he is not right for this squad because he excels in a slow it down, grind it out, pick-and-roll style of play that is wrong for this team. i'm not too worried about a backup PG because gilbert essentially plays the whole game.

We do need a third guard in the rotation with Gil and DeShawn though. Personally I hope that Butler can can swing that with help from a new pickup so that Blatche can spend more time at the 3 (offensively that is his natural position, even though his length, shot blocking and rebounding make him a 4 on defense).

1 - Gilbert
2 - DeShawn
3 - Caron
4 - Antawn
5 - Blatche
Bench - Songalia
Bench - Pecherov
Bench - Draftee

I think that is an eight man squad that can do some damage in an up-tempo style of play. If we make a big move for Antawn then I am even happier. Get a big and move Blatche to the 4 spot or go small to shore up the backcourt and start Songalia.

I'd hate to see Atawn go.

We aren't likely to get someone who cracks the top 7, unless one of the top 7 goes in a trade -- i.e. Haywood or maybe Antonio if we are really planning to be a Phoenix-like team. We do need to beef up the bottom of the roster w/ young *talent* as opposed to *timeservers* as we now have.

Hall and Mason need to go. Ruffin needs to become a coach, Donell is on the bubble (needs a *big* summer league and training camp), and maybe Pecherov makes Booth expendable (?). I can see Jarvis staying, because someone has to back up Caron. I imagine we'll re-sign DeShawn unless some eager GM over-values him for another team (I don't think that'll happen).

But... a couple of trades could change everything.

The Wiz need to a CENTER (do u here me NEWLY CROWNED PRESIDENT) draft one or trade for a good one. I don't understand the LOVE the current & former GM's of the Wiz give for the Forward position. And another thing... DO NOT DRAFT ANOTHER INTL PLAYER unless u know he is going to board a plane and sign a contract and actually suit up NEXT year. We don't have time for anymore projects (Kwame, Peter John Ramos or whatever he's name is, etc) I like a guy with a lil chip on his shoulder who isn't scared to bang with the BIG BOYS... so my pick would be Sean Williams from Boston College.

i read a lot of talk about getting a center. forget it!

the wizards should go small this year (think phoenix). it's not a title team anyway, but with an uptempo agressive style of play, it will be fun to watch and they will win many games. meanwhile, Blatche will come into his own (hopefully he can add 15lbs of muscle to that frame).

i say just use a rotation to guard the opposing centers and pull them away from the basket on defense by forcing them to guard players like pecherov, blatche and songalia. that will really open things up for gilbert going to the hole. Thomas and Haywood were just creating clogged-up dead space on the floor.

Rebounding will be an issue. Will just have to move the ball up court fast enough and make enough shots to account for the deficiency there. That said, Blatche has shown rebounding aggressiveness and Songalia too.

antawn is a great guy, but unless he is involved in some kind of favorable trade i don't see the wizards stock rising dramatically come post-season next year (fully healthy or not).

Ok, tomorrow is the draft --- here's my contest pick.... Oh.... who should I pick? Fine, I pick Jason Smith. That's my pick.

Now, if either Al Thornton or Julian Wright falls to us, I imagine we'll take one of them, and that would be fine. If we take Thaddeus Young, we are grabbing a likely bust -- he may turn out, but there's no great reason to think so. Ditto Crittenton.

At 47, we need to take a flyer on Stephane Lasme, who has the potential to have a long career in the league. He is the best shot blocker in college by far.

The suns are said to have a trade in view that will give them pick #4 or 5. I don't think their 2 picks would get them that -- but maybe we're swapping 16 for their 2 picks, and they're packaging 16 and something else?

Just a dream... and in my dream we get Marco Belinelli and either Sean Williams or Nick Fazekas. In round 2, Glen Davis falls to us (hey, it's *my dream*). Oh, and we swap our next year's number two to Portland for one of their 3 (!) 2d round picks this year, and we grab DJ Strawberry with that.

In this scenario, Taylor, Mason and Hall must go, but 2 other guys gotta go as well (given that Pecherov is coming on). Who'd they be? Don't say Haywood, because we'll have to take someone back for him. If Jarvis goes, who is going to back up Caron? If... - see, it's hard being a GM.
