Team USA 111, Lithuania 86
Team USA defeated Lithuania 111-86 at the World Basketball Challenge in Korea. Three players represented the Wizards on the court Sunday night: Antawn Jamison scored 13 points in the US win. Gilbert Arenas added two points while Darius Songaila scored nine points for Lithuania.
After one final exhibition game in Korea (Tuesday vs. Korea, 2:00 AM ET), Jerry Colangelo and Coach K will submit their final roster later this week. This 12-man roster will be the team that will compete in the FIBA World Championships, which begin Saturday in Japan. Two players will be “cut”. Who do you think it will be? Do you think Antawn and Gilbert both have a shot at making the squad?

The team USA is doing great but it will not be the same without Zero Hero “Gil Arenas” and Cool Hand Luke”Antwan Jamison.I feel they have a very good chance to make the team.Lets look at the statisics Arenas: Puerto Rico 9pts /18mins,China 2pts-14mins,Brazil 2pts/6mins Lithuania 2pts/6mins the minutes and points have fallen off for some reason but the potential is there! JamisonPuertoRco16pts/12min
China 7pts/12mins,Brazil5pts/9mins
Lithuania 13pts/17mins.Antwan was very consistent with his time and scoring. The chances for him is very good! The finale decision now rests on Coach K and his group of assistants coaches!!

Chris Sheridan from ESPN Insider said: “Bruce Bowen hasn’t shown me much, even though he was the first guy off the bench for Coach K against Lithuania. I think Shane Battier and Antawn Jamison have beat him out already. So much for the idea of having a Manustopper in the gold medal game.
The other cut isn’t so cut and dried. Dwight Howard has been quiet, but they’ll need his size. Hinrich seems to be outplaying Gilbert Arenas, so maybe it’ll be Gilbert. They really don’t need three point guards.”
It seems to me that Antawn would make it and he is in his comfort zone. But how do we say about Hinrich’s performance in the last two games (14 pts vs. Brazil and 10 pts vs. Lithuania) without complaining Gilbert’s lack of playing time (he only socred 4 pts in 12 minutes of two contests)?

Well. I’m from LTU. What can I say? We looked appalling and bla bla bla. But, there is one big but… The scoreboard said that you won 104 to 90. The thing is that there was something wrong with the scoreboard. And in stead of counting the three points (that would be 88 for Lithuanian team) the sweat people of South Korea counted five points. Furthermore, the match protocol said that USA won 104 to 90. I don’t know what happened to koreans, may be they drank some sake with the japanese, well whatever. The matter is that the ref signed that protocol, and hum… Here you are you have axplanation of a loser.
Now seriously, having arrived to Asia later than the US team I think we did not bad, of course you might think that the main thing is winning. But it’ll be good to be kept down to earth.
And of course we can thank coach B. Scott for keeping Macijauskas on bench for the whole season. And we don’t have Jasikevicius, that’s a pity. But we have lots of young guys only 20 and 16 years old. They are not participating yet, but in the future I see a very bright light at the end of a tunnel.
P.S. Sorry for an extremely huge comment.

i would have to say it looks bad for gil but you dont see the little things on the score board like good D and off sets that he can run better than most and he said he was not there to score but to play D and thats what K.. says he wants from him so you never know but i think if you wanted him to put up 20 ppg he could do that to but if you think about it with all the people on the team that can score why do you need a ball hog if you have more than 20 ppg you should be kicked off the team “IMO”

I think the other person who commented may be right. For some reason Gil is off his game and Antawn has been playing better over all ball. And I am really surprised at that. Not that I don’t think Jamison got game, I expected Gil to shine. However, I think Gil’s problem is his propensity to feel that Lebron and the crew are better than he is. When in all actuality he has more game than Wade and is just as good as Carmelo and Lebron. He just has to believe it and do his thing. I really want to see both of them stay but one of them is going to leave. And based on performance, it may just be Gil.

Hey I am from Washinton DC. I love Gil Arenas to death and it sucks he got hurt. But I got faith in him and I still think he is the best NBA player out of the NBA. He aint no Kobe Byrant but I think he is the best. I dont care what anyone else thinks because if people think Gil is a bad player and a bad person they need to rethink that thought. People look up to NBA people that are only in it for the money. Gil is way more then that.
GILBERT ARENAS “0″
I guess I wont see you on TV for USA… but I’ll be watching you October 9,2006 first pre season game on the Wizards.
And Gil dont leave the Wizards like Jared Jefferies because your the whole reason I started watching NBA. Your my role model I try every day to be just like you.
LOVE YA

I agree Tawn has been outshining Gil on team usa. It’s not that Gil is a bad palyer, it’s just that he’s playing the game the way he’s not use too, plays not being run through him..whereas Jamison is playing his regular postion and his style of play is great for international play.
Way to go Tawn!
