Washington Post: Wizards, Jeffries Are at Crossroads

Monday’s edition of the Post reports that “the New York offer contains a couple of provisions that could make it more difficult for the Wizards to match, including an up-front payout of $6.5 million and a hefty trade kicker if Jeffries is traded.”

Thoughts?

  1. William Mui Says:

Isiah is doing way too much to bring Jeffries in to New York. 6 years for over 30 mill up front money, and a trade clause? It’s only Jared Jeffries. Not a big offensive game, decent defender, but not for that much. Jeffries specifically said he’d rather play for New York and I’m sure Ernie Grunfeld understands it. He can easily find a defensive minded player like him. The Wizards will get themselves a hole in the salary cap if they match the offer.

  2. Anonymous Says:

I doubt the Wizards will match NY’s offer. Abe and Ernie, if anything, is just playing along for a bit and will pick up Stevenson to replace the loss. In my opinion, they are doing the right thing. Jeffries isn’t that good, and if Zeke wants a player, you know they are overrated and, as I said before, not good. From Boston fans to Wizards fans, we all know the Knicks are the worse of the worse, and will only become more horrible with each passing year. Do you see Jeffries helping the Knicks out at all? Exactly. Let the boy walk, it’ll do us good. Especially watching the Knicks sinks.

    How hilarious is that!

“No, that was not a question.”

  3. Anonymous Says:

The wizards should not match the offer and try to sign bonzi or deshawn either one of those guys are better than jeffries and just sign bonzi or deshawn to two to three year deals I know will be worth less than 30 mill.

  4. Anonymous Says:

I think that the Wizards should respect Jared’s wishes to be on the Knicks. I know that he loves his Washington team but I just think that he does want to move on and that’s okay. Everything will work out fine for Jared.

  5. Anonymous Says:

Jared is only a good defensive player. He doesnt have any offensive skills. However, the Wizards need a defensive minded player because most of their players are offensive-minded, which they did via signing Songalia. They should sign and trade Jeffries for Maurice Taylor or just let Jeffries go!

  6. Anonymous Says:

This contract is obviously ridiulous for Jeffries. He’s a decent defender at best, because he’s really slow with his footwork. Not to mention he has no offensive game whatsoever. If he walks, we’d get a better player to replace him, like DeShawn Stevenson.

  7. Anonymous Says:

you guys are all crazy if you think JJ is not a valuable player to this team. there is a lot to be said for someone who is defensive minded on a team that is full of offense. the value of chemistry is also very important.

having said that, i do think this offer is a very high offer to match. the wizards need to have some wiggle room with their salalries.

i wouldn’t be surprised if JJ is feeling a little like LH did. perhaps he doesnt want to stay on a team that won’t pay him what he feels he’s worth. that’s definitely a shame, because NY is a mess.

  8. BRANDON SIMMS Says:

The wizards should not match the deal cause jared does not want to be here and they have to respect that. they can just go out and get DeShawn Stevenson. but only think jared has is defense but they should not match the deal.

  9. Anonymous Says:

I like Jared but believe there is no longer room for him. With the addition of Songolis, Jared is no longer going to start. Last year the loss of Hughes seemed a disaster, but now we are saying Larry who?

I’ll go with the track record of Ernie, whatever he decides and look forward to an exciting season.

  10. Anonymous Says:

I think they should not match the offer. He does not want to be here because he thinks he’s a better fit for the worst team in the knicks.
I think they should get stevenson, house or wells.

I hope hayes does not get injured this year.

  11. Anonymous Says:

I have yet to see a quote published from Jeffries stating that he does not want to return to the Wizards. From his agent, yes, but the last we heard from Jeffries was a week ago on Comcast saying that he wants to stay in D.C. The Wizards offered Jeffries very close to the same amount of money, so it would be a bit surprising if the Wizards didn’t match. It would be quite strange for a team that says it wants to get better defensively to let its best defensive players walk two summers in a row. That would send an interesting message to the current players.

  12. Andrei Bucharest Says:

it was funny how he started playing his heart out when his contract was coming to an end during the playoffs.

i was never really into his style, he can do good things.. but overall kind of mediocre.

i’d prefer to see that all the time, we have a curse here in washington we need to get rid of

i agree that the wizards organization should just let him stay in new york, look for other threats that are actually threats.

jared landed a gold mine in new york. they have a lot of money and he’s lucky that they looked into him. congrats to jared, best of luck..

now it’s time to get to business

  13. iluvgilbert Says:

I like Jared on the team, and hope that he chooses to stay here but I am a realist and 30 mil, for someone who scores 6 points a game is not realistic. Plus I hear that he doesnt want to be here, why would we want someone that doesnt want us??? I say I’ll miss him but let him go to the Knicks, its not like there gonna be contenders anytime soon.

  14. Anonymous Says:

I honestly believe this is a blessing for the Wizards. My choice would be to NOT match the offer of Jared Jefferies. Yes he is a good defender and yes he brings intangibles to the court, but is he REALLY worth the money that NY is going to pay him?? NO…I would personally let Jared go and try to look towards another free agent who can offer the same. Stevenson would be an excellent fit as he is a good perimeter defender (something the wizards DESPERATELY need) and can provide offense off the bench. If nothing else, they can use this opportunity to bring on Pecherov. He really suprised me with his play at the LV summer league (13pts 6rbs)and really should be brought on and given some minutes ASAP. I mean how much better can he get playing in Europe?? (they play a much different game BTW)

  15. Anonymous Says:

Obviously Zeke is blinded by the fact that he his on the hot seat as a coach/manager. There is no way I would offer Jeffies a 30 million dollar contract. Granted he is a good defender, but his offensive game is almost non-existant and he is not consistent. Could it be he is going after Jeffries because he is one of few marketable players available? I would like to see Jared stay with the Wizards because he become familiar with the Wizards system. But if the man does not want to be there, there is no point forcing him to stay knowing that he does not. One thing for sure, if they do match the Knicks offer, there will be a unhappy Wizard and his play will reflect it and it WILL affect the team. No need to add insult to injury with another player not seeing eye to eye (Haywood). Let him go and see what other possibilities are out there.

  16. Anonymous Says:

Since there has not been any word as of yet out of the Wizards front office, I believe Jared will get his wish. And I second the other person who said this is a blessing in disquise. I firmly believe that Ernie will pull a rabbit out of his hat like he did last season with Caron Butler. At any rate, Jared, good luck to you my man. We fans did not know that you were so unhappy here and hope that maybe now you will be. Just remember, everything that glitters is not always gold and people do stretch the truth to get what they want(Isiah)

  17. Anonymous Says:

Are you crazy why let haywood go are starting center.Come on the guy is getting better and i dont understand why so many people say that we are weak in the center position when i see a good rotation at that spot with etan and haywood. One more thin this goes out to eddie jordan i think you should let etan and haywood at least have around the same playing time and i bet you with that etan would have you more block and rebounds and hay wood would have more rest to play better.

  18. Anonymous Says:

All you guys have no clue about the NBA……..What Jared does is invaluable for this team…We already know he’s not really a stat stuffer, but his contributions are measured in numbers, help side defense, closing out on shots, weak side defense. Was Etan Thomas worth the 38 mil the Wizards gave him, huh?????? Other than Jared, which player on the team can be effective in some kind of way without the ball?? The problem with you guys is the same problem around the league, the perception that scoring is what the league’s about. Grow up guys and really think before you write…. Good luck Jared no matter what, you are one of the fine young men left in the NBA

  19. wizardsdotcom Says:

Recent poster talking about PJ Ramos - stay on topic, we can talk about him later this off season :)

  20. wizardsdotcom Says:

Check out ESPN.com’s NBA Section. They’re running a SportsNation poll on whether or not the Wizards should match the Knicks offer.

  21. Anonymous Says:

since when has jarred jeffries been worth $30 million. i’m more interested in watching andrey blatche, who’s tearing it up in the summer league, develop into a star and the only way to do that is to get him more playing time.

  22. dana tinnen Says:

jared who!? let me tell you who he is. he happens to be the best all around player on the roster. he is a tean player. letting him go means letting go your point forward; your most reliable back up gaurd, forward, center and your best defender. he is certainly worth a $30,000,000.00 contract. have we forgotten how he impact the games? jared can average 20 points if giving the shots.he is a young player who will be a star . you do not give up jared unless you get something in return.does that guy name hayes still play? thats who needs to go we are loaded at the 2&3 positions, besides we have player who can score and play very little defence.

  23. Tuckerceo Says:

First, to the posters that are heraldling DeShawn Foster as a viable replacement, HE CAN’T PLAY. That’s why Orlando pulled their offer to him. Second, I think we’re burying the lead on this. The Wiz already offered Jared a contract that exceeds that of the Knicks. He and his agent are blowing this, if they want the freedom of choice, he should have signed the one year tender and rolled the dice.

  24. Wiz034 Says:

I’m still mix about JJ. I like his defense but I don’t like that he can’t finish at the rim. I don’t think he’s worth 30,000,000 for that reason.

BTW I check out the ESPN poll. Majority of the pollster agree, the Wizards should not match the offer.

  25. Wizards_Sweetie Says:

While I love Jared, I honestly believe that the Wizards should respect his wishes. For whatever reason, he wants to play for them, then go ahead. I just want him to think about which team has a better chance at a play-off appearance.

  26. Anonymous Says:

jared jeffries cant score he can berley rebound and is okay at deffending but not even consistant at that.Plus he dosnt want the wizards to match the offer SO Ernie this isnt that hard of a choice let him go and bring deshawn stevensen.I read he is looking for a 4 year 16million dollar contract alot less than jeffries is asking for and maybe is better than jared.

If not deshawn then sign bonzi he is also way better than jeffries at scoring, rebounding, and about the same in defendig.

  27. Anonymous Says:

Jared’s a good player–no question, and a guy who puts defense first is invaluable in this league. However, if JJ really doesn’t want to be here then it’s not worth it to pay the $30 mil for another distraction in the locker room. I’ve got faith in whatever Ernie decides to do, it’ll all work out for the best.

And I’m psyched about the progress of Andray Blatche!

  28. Pine Says:

Good riddance Jared (if you or your agent actually read this). I used to root hard for you. I mod a Wiz discussion board and was always among your greatest supporters, even to board members who used to (rightfully point your your inability to finish the 1-footer or your penchant to turn it over when forcing the ball in the middle).

But you wannt go play for the dysfunctional NY team - dissing Washington (hint: with your numbers, name any other team besides anyof the cellar dwellers who would give you a starting job) after getting your opportunities here.

    Beat it.

You will be just as “happy” as Larry was in Cleveland last year. You’ll look back and see that you never had it so good.

I give you about 5 games before the brutal NY press and fans starting booing you like there’s no tomorrow.

  29. Anonymous Says:

what leave a payoff team!! to a play ground team!! what he thinking stay man, dc is the place to be now and later , just work out with arenas!! and get your shot down and you will receive a ring not just bling…

  30. Anonymous Says:

I don’t think Jeffries will be with the Wizards next year. Yes, he was our best defender, but he also had a limited offensive game and doesn’t seem real excited to play for us for years to come. If the wizards don’t take Jeffries, then they would probably take deshawn stevenson who is also a good defender but doesn’t have such of an offensive limit. With that said, the Wizards would be better off without Jeffries and with Deshawn Stevenson in my opinion

  31. Anonymous Says:

Let JJ go to New York. We can use the money to get some size and defense. JJ is a good defender at best but let not forget that The King did walk right by him at will when he wanted to. I rather get a player who wants to in DC with some heart and a little more offense so he at least poses a threat.

  32. Anonymous Says:

i already posted a comment about jeffries and the wizards, and what I wan’t to say now is that Andray Blatche could be an ALL-STAR in the making. I hope he is effective at Center so he can help out Brendan Haywood,Etan, and Michael Ruffin

  33. Anonymous Says:

most of you seem to have forgotten who was the only player that played a good D on lebron, the only 2 games we won in th playoffs. let jeffries go is letting the one player that plays a shred of defense (besides ruffin) in this team. with him gone our perimeter is going to be a play ground for every 2&3 in the league.
he is not a scorer or the best finesher, but we really don’t need another scorer, we need someone who can guard any position and play any position and thats jeffries.
the reason jeffries might want to leave (if its true)is because nobody seems realize he’s worth.
    besides 30 mil? thats nothing.
we are paying etan more, who’s never played more than 30 games and Haywood, well just look at his size and his avg..

  34. Chad Says:

No way is Jared worth 30 Mil. The guy cannot finish or shot free throws. How often have you seen Jared’s shot get blocked in the paint because he could not go up strong? Too often. I like his hustle and that he gets after loose balls but the Wiz will be fine without him. Especially by saving the $30 Mil. Jared was not the key to our championship run.

  35. Anonymous Says:

The Wiz probably shouldn’t want to keep anyone dumb enough to want to play on the Knicks. However, JJ does play decent defense at 2 or 3 positions, and doesn’t need the ball on offense, so we should probably keep him. At least don’t let him go for nothing. As for Stevenson, if he’s too small to guard the King, then forget it.

  36. Wizards4life Says:

i am sick of people saying we did not want to pay him what he’s worth. bs we offer 33 mill and he wants to go to the knicks and take 30 mill and to be real if you cant keep bron from scoreing 3 game ending shots the all that d you played is nothing if he cant stop him when it counts bring some here that can put the ball in he hole and we will out score him

  37. Anonymous Says:

jared is not a value commidity to this team. no matter how much of those little things people think he does. honestly, there are many players in the nba that can do the those little things for much less of a price. i come from the celticsblog and let me tell ya, we signed scalabrine for those little things, and, well, it was such a waste of money. there’s plenty of those guys around the nba.

  38. Anonymous Says:

Who does Jared Jeffries think he his. He definitely is not worth 33 million; he’s not even worth 3 million. The Wizards should let Jared sign with NY. He is not that good of a player in my opinion for for various reasons. For him to be 6′11, he is not a good rebounder, scorer, or shot blocker. I don’t know how many times last year that I’ve seen Jared get killed on the block, get stripped bringing the ball up, or left in the dust by a smaller, quicker guard or forward. Let’s be honest folks, Jared is not a guard. If Isaiah wants to pay for an unathletic 6′11, non scoring, non rebounding, non defending fellow Hoosier, let him go right ahead. Deshawn Stevenson will be a better fit for us anyway. At least he can guard somebody.

  39. Rich A Says:

I do not believe that Jared should be allowed to leave the Washington Wizards especially for nothing in return. While I like to see the Wizards keep Jeffries, I do not like the pattern that has been occuring letting players like Hughes, Atkins, and Jeffries go without ant recompensation. If Jeffries does not want to stay, do a sign and trade deal with New York, or Indiana, or LA Lakers.

BTW, Playing in New York at this time for Thomas seems like a no win scenario for Jared. Isiah Thomas has taken this franchise and loaded it with highly paid, fading superstars. Jared Jeffries has a role on the Knicks team, but it is a team that seems to be spiralling downward (Thanks to Isiah Thomas).

  40. Anonymous Says:

Can anyone say P.J. Brown. this guy has made a fabulous career with defense. And I agree he should have worked hard all year like he did last year, but he surely wo’nt be a bust like Juwann Howard. Also to take him out of the mix mean that you will have to give the new player a two year minimum just to adjust. We adjusted with the absence of Larry due to Gilberts generalship and Donell Taylor stepping in to suppliment the team. He is not a scoring threat but he can score. He surely blocked shots, and Etan and Brendon make up in rebounds. I guess you can say that we are an all around team. To sum I think he is worth the fight, and if we could get more play like his from other players as well then surely I can see them holding that trophy in the near future.

  41. Anonymous Says:

Jared Jeffries has never fulfilled his potential because of his lack of offensive skills. Come on he should be dominating at his height. He would need to develop a mean streak for me to give him 30 million. It’s a new day. Give Andray B. those minutes and bring in Deshawn to back up Jarvis. Send Ramos and Taylor packing and keep Pecherov in the U.S. Haywood we need you to step up.

  42. Anonymous Says:

the only thing Jared has is defense so get rid of him? That is why we lost the games we lost last year “no defense” I say keep him, and he does have offensive skills.Have you ever seen him leave the ground and dunk the ball on some one. There is no reason for him to be and offensive player look at the rest of the team.Every team needs guys like Jared.

  43. Anonymous Says:

I think resigning JJ was based on what Grunfield saw from Blatche this off-season. He lit up the summer leagues and show continuous growth from yr. 1 to yr 2. that we haven’t seen from ANY of our rookies.

  44. Anonymous Says:

I like Jared. He’s a good defensive player. However, why keep him if he doesn’t want to be a part of the Wizards?

  45. Anonymous Says:

I hope the Wizards do not let Jeffries leave, and get nothing in return like they did with Larry Hughes. I believe it would be a big mistake to let one of our best defensive players again leave and get absolutely nothing in return.
I think the Wizards should match the Knicks offer and sign Jeffries. Then offer him to the Knicks in a trade for Frye or Curry. What do we have to lose by signing him now. We initially offered him a contract in the $30M range that he rejected. If the Knicks want him that bad, maybe they are willing to trade something of value for him. And if not , then we keep a valuable asset. Jeffries value is in his versatlity and defensive effort, not in his scoring. There are few players that can adequately play the 2, 3 and 4 spots. And center in a pinch. Jeffries is not in the category of a defensive stopper like a Ben Wallace or Dennis Rodman , but they have a place on any team. Jeffries will not light up the scoreboard every night , but he may keep the other teams scorer from lighting up the scoreboard as well. Jeffries is that type of player.

The Wizards have nothing to fear with the No Trade clause in the contract in this case. If Jeffries stays and is not getting playing time, or is truly unhappy here, he will want to waive the NO Trade clause in order to facilitate a trade.

In any event, sign him and keep him , or sign him and trade him. But don’t let your valuable assets continue to walk off and get nothing in return. That is no way to build a Championship team.

  46. Anonymous Says:

Well, I am not sure if JJ really wants to play for the Knicks or his agent does. Two suggestions for both sides: To the Wizards, don’t match the offer; to JJ, fire Andy Miller.

  47. Anonymous Says:

I like Jared and all, but if they are willing to pay that much for him, they can keep him. We’ve got plenty of players that can fill his position.

  48. Anonymous Says:

As a die-hard Wizard’s fan I think to say Jeffries is their best defender doesn’t mean much on a team that plays very little defense. (Lest rotten apple theory) Jered defends OKAY but picks up silly touch fouls early in a lot of games. BTW, Caron Butler plays D as well as Jeffries. Butler makes 5 mil a year. You want to offer Jared 6 mil?. No way.

  49. Anonymous Says:

I think the team should keep JJ. He is one of those players that pretty much knows the system of coach Eddie Jordan, which in part, can be helpful. He proved to be defensive, handles the ball well like a guide and create problem for small guides, and handle big guides well. I say, keep him for continuity on the team.

  50. JGlassie Says:

we dont have any players who can do what jared does. we all complain about how this team plays no defense and then want to let our best defender go? the contract isnt exorbitant, and jared makes up for so many defensive flaws of guys like arenas and jamison. we definitely should keep him around. he’s only like 24 too.

  51. Anonymous Says:

THe Wizards are going to keep Jeffries, and they should, if they match the Knicks offer they will still be under the luxury tax. Also you don’t replace Jeffries with someone like Deshawn Stevenson, a shooting guard, we already have enough scorers on this team and Jarvis Hayes is coming back. How can you possibly want Deshawn Stevenson when you have Daniels and Hayes coming off the bench already? I think the only reason the Wiz showed interest in Stevenson was as a replacement if they were going to include Antonio Daniels in a trade for Jamal Magloire. This is very unlikely and I think the Wizards can go deep in the playoffs with the current squad (Jeffries included). With Songaila in the starting line up our team is greatly improved, also remember last year Koran Butler wasnt starting for the first quarter of the season, after he was inserted into the lineup the WIz’s recored greatly improved.

  52. Anonymous Says:

The wizards shouldnt match the offer I mean he is asking for to much money more than the wizards are paying caron also he want to play for Isiah any way and dosnt want the wizards to match the offer. But in any case if the wizards do match the offer do a sign and trade with the knicks.

  53. dcgolfer Says:

Let Jared go. We should a better player in Bonzi Wells or Deshawn Stevenson. They can defend and play offense.

  54. Anonymous Says:

If they keep Jeffries, does that mean that they won’t have room under the luxury tax limit to sign Hayes next summer? Does the signing of Songalia mean that either Hayes or Jeffries has to go?

  55. Alan Says:

I love JJ but D.C. has to let him go. If we can survive without Larry then can really survive without Jared. I think Jared is good defender. But we can try yo sign to other grood defenders that can also score (something Jared did’nt do in D.C.)that by the names of Bonzi Wells and Deshawn Stevenson. Look we loved Jared for that past 4 years now its time to let him go. He does’nt even want to be here anyways , so why not just let him go to NY.Ny is a mess anyways. Its not like Jared is going to go to NY and make a big change. Besides we signed Songalia. We try to Bonzi and Stevenson. Did you see what Wells did to the Spurs in the playoffs last year.Wells plays defense and can score. Steveson can defend and score he is also versitile.

  56. Sigmakia3 Says:

Hopefully the Wizards will let Jeffries go. Hopefully he’ll be able to shine with the Knicks. I miss seeing him dane during the warm up and before his name is called at the opening. Goodluck to Jared, regardless what heppens you’ll still be a millionaire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  57. Tom Mandel Says:

Obviously, it’s bad PR to lose a starter to another team’s bid and get no compensation two years in a row. But, that’s not a reason to overpay Jeffries.

Jeffries is not an *interior* defender, and that’s where our problem is. It’s hard to play perimeter defense in the NBA under the current rules, and not too many teams are any good at it.

Jared’s stats aren’t very good, and he hasn’t shown much development over the last couple of years. I’m not sure I’d have made the offer Ernie made in the first place.

Still… it’s hard to lose a piece of team chemistry. It makes one nervous. If Jarvis Hayes can come back, if Blatche can actually progress to receive playing time, and if Pecherov is kept around and picks things up as quickly as he gave evidence of over the summer, then maybe we’re fine w/o JJ, maybe we are even improved.

  58. Marques Says:

i say let him go n get bonzi or deshawn…..we really dont need him when we got ruffin, etan, and the newest player sanglia.

  59. Derek Says:

Jared is a 6′11″ 240 lb shooting guard who is probably best suited to play small forward…but is actually capable of playing 4 position offensively and guard all 5 (on some nights). He was the focal point of the offense in college and he’s learned to be an essential part of a playoff team with all of the intangibles he brings to the table.
With the depth the Wizards currenlty have it actually makes sense for them to let Jared go. Jarvis Hayes (3 position player, hard nose defender) is healthy, Antonio Daniels (combo guard who is strong enough to play the 3), the young cat Andre B is a Jared clone with a bigger upside…so the team will actually be able to go on without missing a beat by letting Jared go.
On the other hand, Jared will give the Knicks a big shot in the arm.

  60. Anonymous Says:

Just let him go. The wiz need all the cap space they need to give gilbert an extension. Look what happened to Larry Hughes when he went to the Cavs. He was one of the biggest free agent busts of the season. he should have known when you play with a ball hog like LeBron, you are not going to get the stats you once had. he averaged 14 ppg from 20 with the wiz. Jeffries doenst care about winning, along with those other knicks. and if the wiz do re-sign him, he could have an attitude problem and be a locker room disturbance.

  61. Anonymous Says:

Man, I watched every single Wizards game last season, and the only thing Jared does is jump in the opening tip off. We don’t need him. the only reason he seems so good defensively is because he is surrounded by poor defensive players such as Jamison and Haywood. We’re better off with someone who can play with some consistency and who can score, and that is not Jefferies. And whatever happened to that trade the Wizards were supposed to make to get Jamaal Magloire???

  62. Anonymous Says:

I don’t see how the title “great” defender can be given to this guy. He’s as inconsistent as they come…offensively and defensively! Guys shouldn’t give 100 percent only because their contracts are ending! I say let him go, save the cap space, and sign Stevenson or Bonzi. Someone please package Haywood, Etan, and Booth up and trade them for Gasol! (it worked on espn’s trade machine…)

  63. Anonymous Says:

no dont trade almost all of our centers for pau gasol he is good but what if he gets injured who can fill his spot.I’m still wit letting jeffries go and signing bonzi or deshawn.Deshawn can defend and score bonzi can score redound and defend.both are better than jeffries so wich ever we decide to sign will do better than the over paid jeffries.

  64. Anonymous Says:

I highly doubt that wizards will match the knicks offer but the team is better off with out him if he is willing to play for the knicks who is one of the worst team or the worst team in the league let it be.

  65. Anonymous Says:

To let Mr. Jeffries go would be a complete contrast to what Everyone from the press all the up to Mr. Grunfeld has preached about being a better defensive team. after not being active in the trade market to find a “defensive player” they cant possibily allow there best defensive player to walk for absolute MID LEVEL exception!!! lets all take a look back let Dixon walk for nothing in return…let blake walk for nothing in return… let chucky atkins go for nothing in return… let brevin knight go for nothing in return..and lets not forget last year let larry walk for nothing in return…if everyone agrees the Wiz need to be better defensively. then why in the past two seasons have they let arguably their two best defensive players (larry & Jared) walk getting nothing in return. all i can say is good luck next year when you let both Jarvis hayes walk for nothing and Andre blatche walk for nothing. and lets hope Ruffin doesnt ask for one penny over the vet minimum or else im sure they will send him walking too. and if they do just stick to the game plan of signing bad deal players like Daniels what will he be 40 or so when his deal ends. or how about Etan so much for the need for size around the nba seems they cant dump this guy for a box of twinkies and a 6 pack of coke classic. dont forget the Mr. Party John Ramos project. lets keep him just until he is ready to put up numbers and then let him walk FOR NOTHING!!!! BRING BACK LARON PROFIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think on balance JJ offers us a defensive “option,” but that’s about it. He is as offensively challenged as Brendan Haywood, which means defensive players can more easily double up on our 3 offensive stars. If we had a 4th player who could keep the defense honest, our offense would be even better than it has been the last few years — it would stretch defenses to the point of collapse. I believe that player is Jarvis Hayes. I met him and Ernie out in Vegas and Jarvis is excited about this year. He and a sign in Stevenson would give us some depth at the guard position.

You simply can’t replace JJ’s defense, which at times was critical in the playoffs — I remember two huge blocks in the Cleveland series last fall. But overall I think letting him go opens up more doors. Consider Detroit and San Antonio. They had one defensive “stopper” (Wallace and Bowen), but the other 4 could all score. We can’t afford 2 guys who can’t score in the starting lineup.

My starters: Arenas, Hayes, Butler, Jamison, Haywood.

B-Unit: Daniels, Stevenson, Ruffin, Thomas, Blatche.

Blatche and Stevenson add offense — we had NO offense from the bench last playoffs — and D. Marshall struggled in the summer league.

FROM A SEASON TICKET HOLDER: LET JJ GO!!!

okay .. you guys .. if you think about .. 6 million is not alot in the NBA anymore .. 2 or 3 years back .. the midelevel exception used to be 2 to 3 million .. now with raising salaries and demand for more role players .. 6 million a year is now considered mid-level .. and thats what Jared Jeffries is worth .. hes versatile .. he can play 4 positions .. name atleast 5 other players that can dribble .. play solid defense .. run an offense effectively .. rebound ? not many players .. jared jeffries fits perfect in the wizards system .. we all kno alot of role players that play well on teams they have played for their years in the NBA and then sign big contracts for other teams and become nothing .. ex.. austin croshere .. maurice taylor .. etc .. for the wizards .. hes invaluable .. i think the wizards should match because that gives them a 2nd point guard .. he is what larry hughes was .. thats why he didnt show what he could do til larry was gone .. he also plays great team defense .. takes alot charges .. sacrificing for the team .. his offensive game isnt there yet but remember he came into the league at 19 after 1 year at indiana where he lead his team in scoring .. then got hurt his rookie season .. his offensive game is getting there .. hes been getting better every year hes been in the league .. every team needs a good role player .. hes what the wizards have .. yea you can try and bring ing deshawn stevenson or bonzi wells .. but their not going to have the same continuity as jared jeffries .. in conclusion .. the wizards should match

It seems Jared “wants to go” as to his own words. Although I like JJ, if he’s determined in hoping the Wizards do not match the offer, I say good-bye. There are a lot of players with better and more consistent defense than Jared. I say use the money that would be spent on Jared and lets look for a more determined player who wants to WIN at any cost. He’s not Larry Hughes, who was my next best player along side Gilbert. That’s the player that we should have mathced the contract with or even give more money (terrible mistake).

I LOVE MY WIZARDS and hope the best for them this season. I see championship next June, 2007 for us.

Ernie, it does not matter if we get Jeffries or not, we will not be a championship team. Try to get Garnett for Haywood, Thomas and Jeffries (or someone else we dont need) instead. Imagine the starting five as Arenas, Butler, Jamison, Songaila and Garnett. This is a championship team!

why do ppl keep saying that Jared Jeffries wants to go ? just cuz what the paper’s say .. but have you ever read or heard a direct quote straight from Jared Jeffries himself ? just because he went to indiana and isiah thomas went there doesnt give NY the edge in signing him .. I think Jared Jeffries would want to stay because of the continuity he has here .. and he knows the offense inside and out .. he knows when to take shots and when to pass .. all of you so called fans that say you watched every single game of the season .. you obviously dont kno anything baout basketball .. cuz just cuz he avg’s 6 points 5 rebounds .. wow that makes you think hes not a good player .. please .. like i said before .. he does things that dont show up in the stat sheets .. his team defense is awesome .. if the wizards want to get better on defense .. u keep your best defensive player .. then he’ll play alongside Songaila .. then you have 2 solid defensive players on the floor .. 2 is better than 1 .. the starting lineup would obviously be .. arenas .. jared .. caron .. antawn .. and haywood .. then you got songaila .. blatche .. daniels .. hayes off the bench .. then you got the depth with donnell taylor .. etan .. thats a deep rotation there .. all are very talented .. bototm line is that jared jeffries should stay

For the two or three of you that have left comments on this subject who have a clue about winning NBA basketball, I salute you. For the rest of you novices, Jared Jeffries is one of the essential players from the last two playoff teams because he brings something that all winning teams have: intangibles. Sure he’s averaged 6 pts/4 rebs for his career to date but the only things keeping him from taking a quantum leap and being a solid player for the next 10 yrs are playing time (25 min/game this past season) and confidence.

Isaiah saw something in JJ and offered him the big payday because he remembered Jared’s play as an Indiana Hoosier, where he was a team leader who handled the ball a lot from the top of the key. He doesn’t need the ball to be effective but look for him to play a more prominent role with the Knicks. Also, it’s not all about making the playoffs, it’s about winning a ring. I know the Wizards have struggled the past 20 years but that doesn’t change the fact. Blatche can be a special player and maybe it’s time for JJ to go but don’t sleep. Don’t be surprised if the Wiz struggle this season.

Don’t forget, last season at the end of those games that the Wiz lost to the Cavs JJ wasn’t in either game either due to fouling out or coach’s decision. Don’t sit there like some bonehead and say he couldn’t play D on LeBron in the playoffs. Nobody else did anything and he forced LBJ into a number of turnovers. I love Blatche and Pecherov should play this year as a Wizard but don’t think losing Jared won’t hurt. He was among the league leaders in taking charges- remember when he got 4 fouls on LeBron by taking 2 charges in a row? Plus he stepped his averages up in the playoffs.

I feel that Jared Jeffries is a very versitale play, as he can play three posistions. There is a rising need in the league at this day in age for players of that calibur, however the price tag is too high and we have rising prospects who did farely well in the summer league. I look for Blatche and Ramos to do what Jeffries has done in the past.

ok lets look at the pros and cons and believe me there are more con them pros. pros jeffries is a body that is it doesn’t score big numbers but has solid defense. Now, Isiah is a fool to pay hime the offer sheet is trying to give him the only way i would pay out that much money if he(jefferies) was putting up number like Carmelo. now way i put up the cash. if i were the wizard i would look towards the future of my team and let the guy go take some draft picks and look at the college team and she what new prospects are out there. Because if you really follow basketball you would know that this years draft was graded at like in D+ in my opinon. next years draft has all the player who were going to jump to the league for the 2006-2007 season so who is the bigger fool the wizards for losing another avgerage NBA player or the Knick and Isiah for forking up the cash? i let you be the judge of that. wizards dont need him to make the play-off look at the eastern conference, its not like the west were 40 games is enough so let do the right thing Ernie dump him the team and the organization doesnt need the dead wieght, we need a ring with him i dont see it coming if were you i would put my faith in number #0 gilbert.

I think they should match the offer, then trade him to Indiana. That’s where he really wants to be so let him play for his home team. He will be happy so his play should improve and if he doesn’t WANT to be in DC, LET HIM GO. We don’t need any negative thinking or attitudes ala Chucky Adkins. I mean he can go to New York, but playing under Isiah Thomas is like being in the Special Ed program. You will learn but at a really, r-e-a-l-l-y slow pace…and you’re not gonna win many games.

I hate to see JJ leave us, hes been a big asset to our team. If you a big Wiz fan like me you hate to see him go. We keep losing good players, first Larry Hughes, huge part of our team, now Jeffries, i dont know, what ever happens happens. Just looking foward to this season

    GO WIZARDS!!!

I watched the wizards all of the 2005 season. If you, truly believe the wizards will miss Jeffries think again. Let’s hold back the tears and take a look at the previous season. Who did Jeffries shout down from scoring. Check the archives every person he was assigned to stop from scoring big during the game, eventually the opposing player scored their statistical average or higer. He nothing but an ok defender, sub par rebounder and not prolific scorer at all. The wizards have tremendous debt with the two acquisitions signing. Sorry, I know how much Jarred may have meant to the Washington Wizards. However, enjoy yourself in New York give Isaiah a headache for blown defensive assignments.
