USA Basketball Set to Announce Roster
The 15 man roster that will participate in upcoming exhibition games in Vegas, China and Korea will be announced tomorrow afternoon at a 1:30 pm (ET) press conference from Las Vegas.
Do you think both ‘Twan and Gilbert will make the squad? Based on Chris Sheridan’s report from Vegas, it looks like they’ve both got a good shot.
Breaking News:
Looks like the US will be down a forward in Asia. According to Andy Katz of ESPN.com, Shawn Marion pulled out because of a left knee injury
Katz’s picks to make the 15-man squad: Carmelo Anthony, Gilbert Arenas, Shane Battier, Chris Bosh, Bruce Bowen, Elton Brand, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Antawn Jamison, Joe Johnson, Brad Miller, Chris Paul, Amare Stoudemire, Dwyane Wade and Kirk Hinrich. (Marion, Adam Morrison and Luke Ridnour would be the “cuts” for this trip).
Agree, disagree?

I hear there’s going to be a cut tommorrow of 3 players and am confident Gil will make it through.

Will, based on what I’m reading, I agree with you. Look for either Ridnour or Heinrich (who apparently has been slowed down by a sore hamstring) to be the third PG, with Gil and Joe Johnson being able to fill the slot as well.

Gonna go on record as saying Antawn will make the 15-man roster. I think there are three other players you can remove before him. IMHO, it’ll make sense to bring a 9-year veteran who’s more than willing to chip in different ways and be content as a role player, rather than less-experienced player who may or may not be able to contribute.

Gilbert Arenas is the best slasher in the league; words can’t even explain it.

If Gil doesn’t make it who will? He is one of the best players in the league. He just doesnt get as much attention as a Lebron or a Wade.

Team USA should balance out the squad by adding at least one of the Wizards. Arenas seems to have the upper hand with his passion but we have to see what Coach K has planned.

of course gil is making the team, and yes ‘tawn will join him. ridnour has publicly stated that he has no expectations of heading out to asia.

I’m with Unsilent Majority. It’s looking like Marion (injury), Morrison and Ridnour are on the outs. I think the announcement is a formality at this point…

anon, that would be great…if antawn had any chance in hell of guarding a wing player.

I think Gilbert should make the USA Team because of his skills and versatility, he can play the point and SG.
As for Antwan , he can because he can score and hit the offensive glass. And because he will not be called upon to be a frontline player ( Coach K has LeBron and Carmello for that). Defense is his weakness when asked to guard out on the wing (lack of footspeed and quickness). But that may not be his primary role on this team. If AJ is cut , it will be because of his defensive shortcomings on a team that stresses defense.
Making the finals to 15 players is still a very good accomplishment on a team of ALL-Stars and great players. We should all applaud our guys and keep pulling for them. To be cut now will be no disgrace or anything to be ashamed of. A great effort on their part and they have made me proud.

I’ve read that Antawn Jamison might not make the 1st cut, but Arenas is most likely to make it, as a SG though. Coach K really likes Chris Paul as his PG.
