Wizards Sign Songaila

Wizards President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has signed forward Darius Songaila.

In his three-year NBA career, Songaila is averaging 7.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 50% percent from the field and 82.5 percent from the free throw line. Last season, Songaila (6-9, 240) scored a career-high 9.2 points per game and averaged 4.0 rebounds in 62 games with the Bulls. Defensively, he helped Chicago lead the NBA in field goal percentage allowed at 42.6 percent.

Excellent signing. Songaila can shoot, pass, rebound and play a little defense. He complements the team very well.

An excellent pick-up!

It’s great to see this blog, guys. Good for you for starting it.

I hope this is a good pickup but I am not really sure. I guess we will have to wait and see.

He should work well in eddie jordans offense. Good shooting big men to back up jamison.

Yes, Great Move we need a guy who can consistently hit the elbow jumper and open up the inside for Arenas

Songaila was a good signing but that still doesn’t solve the answer in the low post. Haywood is not gonna get it done. Wizards are going no where without a major low post presence.

No low post? Give Brendan some time he has shown some signs of growth and intensity. With Haywood, Etan, Ruffin, Jamison, and don’t forget the All Star PJ Ramos we’re going to have some depth on the bench

Good pick-up for the Wizards. My question is will they move Jamison back the SF and let Songaila play PF? If they re-signs Jeffies put him on the bench.

At first I wasn’t so sure but now I think it’s a great signing. He brings defense that we didnt really have.

He’s a definite PF. I’d say, he’ll be our backup PF at least. He will fit into the system perfectly, but this however doesn’t mean he is going to be unseen on the court. Songaila doesn’t play impressively as hell, but the effectiveness he is performing with is what I hope makes Wizards a better team.

i think it is a good signing it allows us to leave our draft pick overseas for this year to further develop his skills, but i think we should also still sign stevenson

Any big man that can stick the jumper and rebound will be a welcomed addition. Notice during the seaon how many more games will be won by just hitting that one open shot. Last year we needed that one open shot made not missed, that one rebound, or that one defensive play to win. This signing is great. P.S. with Peter Ramos giving us bulk I’m loving it.

Oh, come on you guys. Wait for the beginning of the season, will you. He’ll do just fine. Or else he wouldn’t be in the national team of Lithuania. He might be a little quicker, but he’s still gonna provide help in defense and in offense, that’s for sure.

Have you guys noticed that on the Wizards official site, that Darius is in fact shooting a free throw in a Wizards jersey? The right side of the picture (his left jersey sleeve) looks completely cut off using a mouse. Anyway, does this mean that Blatche’s impressive summer league is going to send him back to the end of the bench? I really like him.

Absolutely, Wizards lacked a player like Songaila, who can hit mid-range jumper, and has high basketball IQ

Hey – how did Darius get into that Wizards jersey? Is that his head on someone else’s body? C’mon now — ‘fess up.

Hey everyone, be sure to check out Songaila, and other lithuanians in the World Championship in Japan. If everything’s gonna be fine and players won’t get any injuries you should see not only Songaila, but Kleiza (from Denver), Macijauskas (who was sitting on the bench of NO/Okla City, for some reason), and others. Now that everything’s said I just hope they won’t screw up.
